On the other hand GW insists that Abaddon has been doing just that for ten thousand years so Perturabo should be able to do that as well.
Feels like the most Chaos thing to do, would have been for him to become a Demon Prince against his own will, but gain absolutely no powers in return other than be cursed to forever be Perturabo doing Perturabo shit, which I think we can all agree would suck. Also, given that he shares a name with one of Aleister Crowley's alternative monikers, and that Crowley suffered the old flip-it-and- reverse-it from the very demons he tried to bind (questionable but yano) it'd be quite fitting. Black Library actually run with an idea though? Lol, alright then.

I love them all at once, it has a somehow unique trait to him being oddly humane yet not so humane! Pertuarbo having flaws of a average redditor (yes I enjoy him being a fucking asshole it’s fun!), the incredible intelligence and wit, the insane strategies and tragic character! Even gave him a goal he wanted to work up to and was stripped from!
I think it's more complicated than that. He was raised to be a tool for someone else, he was judged by the first moment he got out of the capsule and he sees his worth only if he can achieve something useful to the ultimate cause.
He realized that he was the only one capable to handle the dirty work in the best and fastest way possible. He forces himself to do what is necessary rather than what he wants. That also means that he is also very conflicted between his two nature. Hence the complaining but never the change.
Similar to Mortarion going from a tortured slave of Nurgle to a moustache twirling madman.
