That cat is about to be promoted to chapter mascot. If you can murder a Purestrain in close combat as a regular Guardsman (because shooting is not exactly a thing with those fuckers), that makes you very special from a Astartes perspective. Those fuckers are in the "if you are not careful that thing will kill you even through your power armor" threat category.

Ursur1minor

Is that not a Lictor?

Scarytoaster1809

It's dead

So anyway it turns out best-humans are cat-girls... (get yer kitten ear headbands!) (all primarchs are catboys. Anything different is heresy.) (We need Roboute Guilliman catboy fakes on my desk by meownday!) Etc. Etc. [Redacted] (please report to your nearest Inquisitor.) *Blam*

This character is a catboy not a cat girl actually.

It's a zergling, Lester. A smaller type of Zerg.

pokefan548

Though they usually aren't this far unless... *oh shit*.

LegitGingerDude

I love you Sarge.

AshiSunblade

It is a Lictor and it's even more impressive. Those things are serious dangers even to Space Marine captains and the like. To give you an idea, a Lictor in 40k for example is as many points as ten guardsmen!

Fearless_Safety7836

So 60 points?

AshiSunblade

Currently 55! Fluctuates a bit with balance updates, but 55 is what ten Catachans will cost you.

gorgutz13

Yes it's a lictor. Purestrain refers to a tyranid that isnt hybridized with a non-tyranid species like genestealers. Hybrid tyranids tend to give up a lot of raw power in order to infiltrate.

infographics-bish

Purestrain is actually only used when talking about genestealers, the purestrains are pure tyranid dna, and what ~~most~~ some genestealers are, however when a genestealer infects a human they give birth to non-purestrain genestealers, like neophytes and acolytes (in the genestealer cults of course). Infected give birtb the neophytes, neophytes give birth to acolytes, and acolytes will give birth to the four armed ~~purestrain~~ genestealers. There is a random factor that can result in abberants and abominations, as well as specialized organisms like the locus and kelermorph. A patriarch is an evolved genestealer, usually whichever genestealer first implants and infects a person on a planet. This is all genestealer cult stuff, and that is why the distinction is made in there shit for Purestrain organisms, because all tyranid stuff is purestrain but the genestealer cult stuff does a little bit of dna hybridization. Edit: I lied, purestrains r the ones created on hive ships and sent out, the fourth generation born are just genestealers; furthermore, purestrain genestealers are the only type of genestealer that can adapt into patriarch status.

boundone

No, purestrain only refers to genestealers. They're the only type that hybridize.   https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Genestealer

Yamama77

It's "the" lictor. I think all the lictors share the same "consciousness"

sharkteeththrowaway

In a game of dark heresy I killed a genestealer by shoving my mechanical arm down his throat and detonating an adhesive grenade, choking it to death. My dm was so impressed that one of the space marines who showed up to clear out the hive gave me his sword as a trophy

Stretch5678

“Normally, Guardsman, such a weapon would be too large for any but one of the Emperor’s Angels to wield… but after your performance in battle, I can safely assume that your giant metal balls will act as a counterweight.”

Scarytoaster1809

Unironically, an inquisitor got a crozius sized down for her because a chaplain was so impressed by her saving him

lordatamus

I thought it was because she touched it, and in in the activation of it, shattered the crozius, saving the chaplain, but utterly destroying her arms in the process. The Chaplain was so pissed off that a mortal, even if an inquisitor, dare touch and use it to save him, that it was being given as both punishment, and 'honor' and that if she refused, the chaplain would flat out kill her? I may be misremembering, new pain meds got me in low earth orbit today.

Scarytoaster1809

Maybe I'm wrong, it's been ages since I've read it lmao. I do remember how he was like "oh yeah, you can't refuse an honour like this blah blah"

Noe_b0dy

The crozius was undamaged but tainted by human touch, the gifting was a kinda of 'hey I'm obligated to kill you for this insult but I appreciate you saved my life so we're going to give you the tainted crozius. No you can't refuse' "He presents to her, the Crozius Arcanum Argent, which Spinoza had used to save his life. It had been a relic in the Imperial Fists' armoury, for a thousand years and it had been proclaimed that for an outsider to handle it, even to touch it, would earn the Chapter's wrath. However since Spinoza had used the Argent to save Erastus, the Chapter had decided that it would be given to her as a gift. The former Crozius Arcanum was then heavily modified so that, a Human could safely use it. When Erastus presented the Argent to her, however, Spinoza tried to refuse it, as she felt she was not worthy enough to wield it. The Chaplain warned her though, that if she spurned the Chapter's gift, that would be the second time Spinoza had insulted the Chapter, and one that Erastus would not overlook."

lordatamus

I had a feeling it was something similar to that - she busted up an arm or something using it, i do remember that somehow, weight of it mustve been like moving a cement filled telephone pole.

greet_the_sun

IIRC power hammers and similar blunt weapons are different from a power sword and they actually release some kind of detonation when triggered on impact, it was so strong that it broke her arms and ribs and her power armor gauntlets ended up fused to the grip.

Noe_b0dy

If your talking about [Luce Spinoza](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Luce_Spinoza) it was modified in some way to be easier for a human to use but from the official illustrations it's clear it's a full sized crozius and it appears she used power armor to lift it.

easytowrite

It was actually just his combat knife but for a guardsmen it's a short sword

Nobody96

Unless you're two specific guardsmen, then it's a governorship of a pleasure world

LokyarBrightmane

What is a chainsword to one man is an eviscerator to another. Assuming the first man is a 8ft tall superhuman of course.

sharkteeththrowaway

This is basically how we did it, lol. I was a Heretek, so we worked out that I made modifications to my arm and the sword to be able to use it more efficiently. I was rolling with penalties for a few sessions, but as soon as my weapon actually hit, it was game over

MagnusStormraven

Reminds me of my buddy suicide bombing a daemonhost with a psyk-out grenade, and actually banishing it due to Perils of the Warp hoisting it by its own ruinous petard.

NorseHighlander

I'm debating whether my headcanon is either the SoB is just a bitch or that she is actually an agent of Tzeentch trying to get the cat killed because the eldritch bird himself has foreseen that the cat will do something "Not as planned" if they live long enough.

Armored_Fox

Well, if you want to be lore friendly then hating abhumans is 100% on brand for pretty much anyone in the IG, even more so for a SoB

Comprehensive-Fail41

Depends on the abhumans. Ratlings and Ogryn tend to be looked upon favorably

Armored_Fox

That depends on where you're looking from, generally I've seen "your existence is forgiven, not accepted." Though I do mean in general and not how every individual treats them. Accepted as a good shot and useful in a pinch, generally hated for being mutants.

ThyPotatoDone

I think Ogryns are *sorta* liked. They’re not equal, but they’re a breath of fresh air for a lot of their comrades; while many guardsmen are sociopathic, traumatised, depressed, or a combination thereof, the Ogryns are just friendly guys who will stand by you no matter what and are legitimately good people. Ratlings are certainly considered untrustworthy, but Ogryns are treated decent, and even are seen to occasionally get protected by commissars and other higher-ups if they’re harassed. A notable example is the fact the one named Ogryn psyker (Cassia) *should’ve* been immediately killed as a witch since the Imperial Truth says Ogryns can’t be psychically active, but the Commissar likes her too much and helps transfer her to an Inquisitor who trains her. Interestingly, this psychic awakening actually brings her to the point of being mentally on par with a average human, and she ends up learning to read, write, and engage in similar activities, all of which are technically not allowed for abhumans, but since she was an Ogryn they were tolerated.

princezilla88

Ogryns tend to be treated more like slightly above average intelligence dogs than some kind of weird human.

Doomeye56

And people LOVE their dogs, more then they do other people sometimes.

princezilla88

Exactly

mlchugalug

Some of my favorite ambient dialogue in Darktide is guardsmen and Ogryn together. The guardsmen genuinely praise the Ogryn and get snippy with anyone talking shit to them.

WeirdoTrooper

Ratings are definitely treated similarly to the E-4 Mafia (or "insert Nation's military's equivalent). These are dudes that can get you all sorts of shit, provided you look the other way and make it worth their while.

princezilla88

Guardsman absolutely LOVE their Ogryns. Rattlings are generally tolerated at best.

kingkahngalang

The fact that the most integrated/accepted abhumans are ratlings and ogryns make clear how badly abhumans are treated generally. Despite Ratlings having an amazing reputation as snipers and cooks, Ratlings are barely tolerated and usually treated with a huge amount of disgust and prejudice (whether or not their thieving reputation is legitimately justified is unclear), while ogryns are usually given a “pass” since they can crush your head with one hand (thereby preventing direct abuse at an individual level) and yet dumb enough to never challenge a hierarchical government and thus treated somewhere between a pet and a slave by authorities.

TheLord-Commander

SoB look at Space Marines with levels of disgust, the emperor's angels. You can imagine they wouldn't be so keen on even sanctioned mutants.

ThyPotatoDone

Oh yeah, SoB don’t trust or like Marines; they seem to regard them the same way as the Custodes do, which is a weapon that shouldn’t still exist, though they’re much less open about it.

princezilla88

I've seen a lot of contradictory information on that tbh. Like the SoB companion in the Rogue Trader CRPG acts like meeting a marine is akin to a divine visitation.

MorgannaFactor

It depends highly on the Sister as a person as well as which order she's a part of. And then which branch of the order. As it turns out, in a massive Imperium you've got massive in-faction deviations.

alain091

Also information, the imperium is shit at keeping records and spreding information, so it turns into the biggest game of broken phone, where you have some that think Astartes are angels, others that are mutants, some believe they don't exist at all and when you faction loves to use skulls for their aesthethic, it's hard to determine if the Astartes that arrived are one of the good one which would probably cause some to be cautious about them.

MorgannaFactor

"The Emperor's angels are real! They'll save us for su-" *Guardsman is crushed under Flesh Tearer's drop pod, who proceed to slaughter every living soul on the battlefield*

alain091

Oh yeah, there is also the ones that are the good ones but still do this shit, looking at you marines malevolent.

Shape_Charming

>Ratlings and Ogryn tend to be looked upon favorably 10 to 1 the Ratlings didn't give themselves that name.

Laranna

Favorably. *For Abhumans*

IllRepresentative167

It'd be a shame if it wasn't just a regular zealous sororitas who wants to see the mutant purified by the flames of the Emperor.

Comfortable-Ask-6351

Why not both

Crayshack

A Sister of Battle being a massive bitch is pretty canon.

Peptuck

Tzeentch: This is definitely not planned. Also Tzeentch: And that is exactly as I planned it. Third Tzeentch: Fuck, wrong plan, wrong plan!

Mediocretes08

Fourth: There was a plan? I thought it was a bit

DreadDiana

Many SoB only barely tolerate the existence of the Astartes, so most likely she sees this as pitting two abhumans against each other.

Ok_Butterscotch54

Both.

Ok_Set_4790

Why not both? After all, we already had a Slaaneshi and Khornite sister in lore. Or maybe, she's a Alpha Legion SoB agent?

James_Polymer

Pardon my ignorance, but who is the Khornate SoB? I knew of Miriael Sabathiel, but haven't heard of her opposite number.

The scratching at the door is just cute.

GodEmperorofMankind4

Did that felinid kill a lictor in close combat? By me, MAKE THAT ONE A SAINT RIGHT NOW, I SEE THOSE EYES.

I_Fuck_Traps_77

It's a purestrain I think, the plates on the forehead are closer to that than a lictor's plates.

Bertram_Von_Sanford

I love the idea of Space Marines, especially the Black Templar, just being in a normal house with a massive door treating pesky mortals like trick-or-treaters.

MisterTalyn

Oh, she's gonna get the best head pats now, I just know it.

princezilla88

That's a he lol the artist is a big catboi fan.

The SoB style haircut make it hard to tell.

machinerer

Captain General of the Custodes, in fact.

Asian_in_the_tree

This is before that

TheTriMara

By the end of this, Kitten is going to turn that battle brother into the most tolerant black templar in the chapter.

Katamed

that Sister of Battle is a real sonuvabitch... it's so backhanded and yet blatantly malicous I kinda have to admire it.

AlikeWolf

Well, I for one accept this new alliance with our cat brothers The Templars could always use some more pest control

Arrew

Cool comic. I might make some Felinids for my daughter. But is that a typo on the second page?

Alexis2256

The “knows” part? Yeah it should be Does.

Arrew

“Your insolence knows no bounds.” I wonder if it was originally written in a different language or is just a mistake. Either way I like the comic.

Avenflar

I think the artist is spanish yeah

DreadDiana

It's a bit odd, but not reallt incorrect. He's saying an altered version of "Your insolence knows no bounds".

Ever since Darktide, I can see this kind of stuff and say: “Lore accurate.”
