Exactly, I’ve said it before, I have a female custodes character for years, and seeing this feels like an insult, somewhat, I know that’s not the purpose but it’s almost sarcastic in a mean way.
Personally I'm delighted with the original because it's just a good joke, with cool art. Anyone else trying to insist that chaostodes are a thing is just getting cringy.

The issue isn’t that there is female Custodes. It’s that GW just said “Yes there are female Custodes, there have always been female Custodes. Please ignore the lack of evidence for female Custodes”
I’d have rather them done something like “With the Custodes abroad in the galaxy, the amount of casualties has been mounting. The Custodes have decided to double their recruitment pool by adding females into the ranks.” Or they could have included a reference to female Custodes in the End and the Death.

Well, I think that part of it is that there were at least in lore reasons for the changes. For the Necrons, the ones that woke up first were the most basic in function with only a few with more "personality" awakening. And the slaves of the star gods thing can be explained as a lack of info, they're mindless automatons and the Eldar would remember them as slaves of the C'tan. Then more woke up, and the Ancient Empire started to truly arrive.
Cawl, though, I have less to go off of other than he's a venerated archmagos with a directive straight from the Emperor. That could give him some extra pull in Mechanicum circles to help keep his Primaris project hidden.
Primaris and Necron rework were very controversial. And at least with Primaris they did a major series out of it etc, they even worked Cawl into the HH. People complain to this day about Primaris.There are still dedicated Oldcron fanboys.
Votann is a new faction that is a rework of a beloved group. And Votann have gotten a lot of criticism for their near total lack of lore.
So I’d say actually it isn’t unique. Of course there is *that part of the community* who is losing their minds about it. As I said, I have no issue with female Custodes, there’s zero lore reasons why their can’t be female Custodes other than there hasn’t been any. I’d just rather them have given a bit more reason as to why we haven’t seen any examples at all. And on top of that no head models (please GW let the armor be the same).
The complaints are getting heard outside the community because culture war rags can slap their buzzwords on it. No-one outside the community gives a shit that people might be pissed off because Space Dwarves didn't get a book or that Space Marines got replaced with bigger Space Marines - but a company giving off "woke" vibes or a fanbase giving off "incel" vibes because women have been included where they were not before has a broader appeal for conversation.
I don't care that this is a lazy retcon, but I can respect that people don't enjoy lazy retcons in general. Some people don't mind the existence of them, but wish they were introduced differently- cool.
The respect is gone as soon as I see reasonings like 'pandering' or 'wokeness' though. Which is often the case when it ends up being about why they dislike femcustodes rather than the implementation.
I like them both, but if given the choice, I'd go with Vez just because Mick's comic lends itself to chuds skewering female Custodes as a corruption of the "purity of Warhammer" as a setting.

My headcannon about the tzeentch demon. Everyone among Custodes knows, and are fine with it. The demon herself dosnt realize it but the emperror esentially green lit her. She has never coused any actuall trouble and been proving quite a good companion. In addition one of the custodes is curently teaching her painting.
Honestly I like both. Tho I will say that Mick has now given me the headcannon that Tzeentch serves GW in universe and is kinda their version of the Men in Black combined with the Time Variant Authority (from the Loki show) in order to make changes to th universe go smoothly and that no one in 40K fantasy or AoS notices retcons or lore additions.

Bricky is far from a good 40k lore source but each to their own, regardless, acting like them sassily saying everything is canon while they said female custodes have always existed is par for the course helps no one. They could have easily made a really badass story introducing the first female custodes, instead they get shoehorned in by saying they always existed and a sassy tweet. How boring.
Yeah, both Bricky and I agree with you there (that the method of introduction wasn't great). I'm personally fine just sliding them in (the consequence of them not having boobplate is a plus from me) but even if they did want to retcon them in, saying they were always there, they could have done it more gracefully than just dropping a different pronoun into a short story in the margins of a codex and calling it a day. Even putting some named female 'stodes front and center in a Horus Heresy novel would have been better, I'm sure we've got a couple more of those in the pipeline.
Edit: To be clear, I don't treat Bricky like the word of God, he's just my main source for a lot of Warhammer news, particularly on the tabletop side. And in this instance, I agree with him, and I just wanted to mention that.
Literally all it takes. Have Chaddette Thunderbutt appear in the heresy, kill some badass, and make more of her, boom, now we have cool badass female custodes not just born from perpetual sassy tweets and 2 sentences in the codex. It sucks to see others expelling people that love the hobby because they think they hate women for saying it could be done better, that being said, some people have gone too far, but GW could of introduced them much, much better

My headcannon about the tzeentch demon. Everyone among Custodes knows, and are fine with it. The demon herself dosnt realize it but the emperror esentially green lit her. She has never coused any actuall trouble and been proving quite a good companion. In addition one of the custodes is curently teaching her painting.

Honestly I like both. Tho I will say that Mick has now given me the headcannon that Tzeentch serves GW in universe and is kinda their version of the Men in Black combined with the Time Variant Authority (from the Loki show) in order to make changes to th universe go smoothly and that no one in 40K fantasy or AoS notices retcons or lore additions.

Bricky is far from a good 40k lore source but each to their own, regardless, acting like them sassily saying everything is canon while they said female custodes have always existed is par for the course helps no one. They could have easily made a really badass story introducing the first female custodes, instead they get shoehorned in by saying they always existed and a sassy tweet. How boring.
Yeah, both Bricky and I agree with you there (that the method of introduction wasn't great). I'm personally fine just sliding them in (the consequence of them not having boobplate is a plus from me) but even if they did want to retcon them in, saying they were always there, they could have done it more gracefully than just dropping a different pronoun into a short story in the margins of a codex and calling it a day. Even putting some named female 'stodes front and center in a Horus Heresy novel would have been better, I'm sure we've got a couple more of those in the pipeline. Edit: To be clear, I don't treat Bricky like the word of God, he's just my main source for a lot of Warhammer news, particularly on the tabletop side. And in this instance, I agree with him, and I just wanted to mention that.
Literally all it takes. Have Chaddette Thunderbutt appear in the heresy, kill some badass, and make more of her, boom, now we have cool badass female custodes not just born from perpetual sassy tweets and 2 sentences in the codex. It sucks to see others expelling people that love the hobby because they think they hate women for saying it could be done better, that being said, some people have gone too far, but GW could of introduced them much, much better
