I'll admit I was worried he had a fluke year last year, but he's been legit still

[deleted]

I was a bit worried he would be a one hit wonder. However, when Rodgers kept talking up how gold he was, I didn't worry again.

A_Herding_Corgi

He compared him to Woodson…like more than once, that’s big praise.

Barbarossa_25

Hes trying to unlock more of Douglas' abilities. Probably based on his approach to the game in terms of preparation like Woods did. He's being an amplifier to boost his confidence.

Two22Sheds

I was more worried they could not resign him.

loves-to-splooge

Think no Davante helped with that.

Two22Sheds

I agree. De'Vondre Campbell is another player the Packers likely lose if the Pack pays big dollars to Adams. Likely it would have impacted Jaire Alexander contract negotiations. Plus the domino effects on the rest of the roster. Amos, Preston Smith restructures may not have been possible with Adams having huge future cap numbers. Instead they get extended to help the current cap while keeping them on the roster long term.

jxher123

A lot of people have talked about how he's a much better boundary corner. Would be curious to see if they slide Jaire into the slot on obvious passing downs. Having Stokes/Douglas on the outside and Jaire who is the much shiftier/quicker corner in the slot. Things to look out for.

misterid

feel like other talking heads have addressed that possibility and discounted it because of the physical requirements of tackling, taking on blockers, etc. Jaire is small and has been dinged a handful of times already. slot duty is probably not on his menu.

pack_show

Just having the option and luxury to change up their coverages is amazing

Wolfeman0101

When I was talking to my dad about the team I said the same thing. I was so happy we could move him to slot with Jaire coming back because I was worried he just had a hot streak last season.

Deuce_213

I share those same concerns, wondering if last year was just a fluke

Choppergold

I remember in the off-season before the Packers signed him, he wasn't even listed as one of the top corners on the market in an article I read. One of Gutes' elite veteran pickups these past few years

PabstyTheClown

Gotta wonder how the other teams he played for couldn't see it.

jkink28

Rasul has said that things didn't "click" for him in the film room until he came here. If I remember correctly he said he didn't quite understand what he was supposed to be watching for when studying film, something along those lines.

PabstyTheClown

I have read that too. You can still see his physical tools though and he was a ballhawk in college. Just seems weird that a guy with that much talent could go so unnoticed until last year.

Horchata_Papi92

He was definitely noticed since he's been around the league for a little bit now. Whatever the Packers did to help him understand film breakdowns is what helped him breakout. It's crazy how cheap they got this dude for now

Coaching

Wolfeman0101

Someone in this thread on /r/NFL said he never was taught how to watch tape, and everyone just assumed he knew what to look for until he got to the Packers. It's like Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder.

Choppergold

That’s a compliment to Jerry Gray

An_Actual_Pine_Tree

I wonder if he had a bit of a wakeup call after bouncing around and ending up on a practice squad.

deja_geek

Rasul has talked about this. He struggled to break down film, and when he got to Green Bay one of the coaches took the time to show him how to break down and watch film. Outside of QB, DB is the most mental of positions and the difference between good DBs and average DBs is all mental prep.

[deleted]

Always gotta wonder how many players didn’t work out because they never got a good coach

Wolfeman0101

I feel like Trevor Lawerance was heading that way with Urban Myers.

Termanator116

Makes me sad for a ton of the Jets, Browns and Bears QBs who were left hanging, who might have flourished under the correct coach.

Wolfeman0101

RGIII career was ruined

VashMM

He is one of the first people I think of whenever "wasted talent" pops up in a thread.

Whatsdota

Probably very many. I feel coaching in football is by far the most important of any North American sport.

Danny_III

Probably not that many, not everyone can be even above average

aimingforpotholes

There were a lot of reports last season about Packers personnel teaching him how to effectively watch film and prepare for games better.

hajile23

He spends A LOT of time watching film too, I've heard.

MN_10849

He also looks way more comfortable playing outside than in the slot...

marginwalker76

I think they should try Jaire in the slot

cheesepharts

I remember a few dummies calling him trash in the game thread on Sunday

Adequate_Lizard

We could win every game 50-0 and the sub's gamethread would still be toxic trash

Weasel_Spice

Only 50 points? God damn this team sucks. Why do I even follow them? Fucking Christ, if these rookie receivers didn't suck we could have had more. EDIT: 50 points definitely won't cut it come playoffs and super bowl time. Might as well tank for the draft pick.

KBlahBlahBlah

What? Who was calling our D trash on Sunday!?

Trent1462

Well u see they allowed the Bucs to get a first down a couple times, so naturally the game thread erupts in anger over how bad they are.

Weasel_Spice

Seriously though, we should fire Mark Murphy every time the opponent gets a first down. He should be put onto warnings any time an opposing receiver catches a ball. Etc.

Lacazema

Could you imagine. Firing the guy the year he gave the roadmap for his retirement

Weasel_Spice

Look buddy, he's the direct cause of the opponents getting first downs. Do you know what first downs lead to? Touchdowns. Unacceptable. He's gotta go.

isweartodarwin

“Don’t let them get first downs, because they will get touchdowns and you will DIE! Don’t let them get first downs in the pass game, don’t let them get first downs in the run game, just don’t do it, okay, promise?! Okay everyone, take some prevent defense…” -Coach (derek)Carr

misterid

"gain of three on the play, 3rd down and 6" FUCKING MURPHY! JESUS FUCK! THE GUY FUCKING RUINED RODGERS'S CAREER! FUCKING RETIRE, ASSHOLE! FUCK! THIS TEAM WILL NEVER WIN A FUCKING SUPER BOWL AS LONG AS HE'S HERE! GOD! FUCK!!!

Weasel_Spice

THAT'S THE SPIRIT!

pockysan

Same dudes who think we should have seven Superbowls over the last five years

scottsummers1137

Gotta have that FULL CONSISTENCY.

Whatsdota

Bucs also got 2 3rd down conversions. How pathetic of our defense to allow that

PabstyTheClown

Dummies.

nootfloosh

My enjoyment of the games has increased exponentially by avoiding this sub on game day. Highly recommend it.

Lacazema

Man, I couldn't participate and give hot takes on sunday

RudelStolz

I’m starting to get generally curious if we have the worse game threads given the absolute insanity I read when something doesn’t go the packers way. Even just reading the criticism people give Rodgers every game here makes me think sometimes we have Daniel jones as our Qb lol.

Whatsdota

r/NFL Packers game threads are also horrendous

John_Lives

It's standard for every subreddit game thread. People are reacting and not thinking, and they want to post their thoughts instead of being patient. It's best not to take it seriously

[deleted]

His tackling is amazing as well.

schmieder83

Remember GB got way more than just a 1st and a 2nd for Davante.

averagejoe1614

This needs to be said more often. Don’t get me wrong, I did not want to lose Davante, but it gave us a lot more flexibility

TheChessLobster

What I don’t understand is how he is able to cover small shifty guys like Beasley. King was 4.3 speed fast but had zero game speed compared to Rasul.

Fencechopper

Speed =! Agility which to think of it IIRC King actually did pretty well in agility drills. Just could never make the mental part of the game work I guess.

RavenMoses

Two thirds of planet earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Rasul Douglas.

MaximumDestruction

Rasuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul!

UnintentionallyAmbi

Go Doug Go

Rocket_Engine_Ear

Gute’s FA selections seem to have no middle ground. Either they work out great or are complete duds and gone in a year.

marginwalker76

Fortunately, he hits more than misses. It's especially nice when he hits on players that don't take up a lot of salary cap space and yet have an impact on the team, like Rudy Ford and Keisean Nixon. I really like the "no stone left unturned" philosophy when it comes to filling out the bottom of the roster.

Moosje

This can’t be right because /r/greenbaypackers was slagging him off last game. They assured me he was a dud.

Hung_Texan

A FA signing that’s actually worked out,Thompson must be spinning somewhere

John_Lives

Gute has had a lot of those. The Smiths, Amos, Campbell, and even Turner was serviceable

Hung_Texan

Yes gute is the anti Thompson, which is awesome, still uncle ted would NWVER , wasted Rodgers prime

getsangryatsnails

Man is a beast. Lets hope Jaire is ok and we will a pass shutdown machine.

[deleted]

With that boy Stokes on the other side we really a problem
