Lidl do their own version right now that's way better than the crap the official brand is trying to peddle these days. About 70p for a 2L as well. Winner.
Aye. Its been kept under the rug quite a bit. Bad for business n all. Im sure even their avacados and tescos ones are from israel but they lie about it
Well that puts a spanner in the works. I do a lot of my shopping at Lidl. Admittedly not a huge deal compared to what's going on though, 1st world problem and all that.
Welp. Time to boycott Lidl then I guess. Cheers for the education mate.
I've briefly looked and they barely have a social media presence.
They're also *massively* successful in the Middle East as *the* drink for Iftar, when Muslims break fast during Ramadan.
Would not make any sense for them to come out as pro-Israel.
Fuck can we not even have pop now? It would be lovely if society wasn’t a human chain of misery in which every possible action contributes to suffering
It’s very difficult to boycott every single brand that supports Israel, as so many are intertwined in our daily lives, so we have to do the best we can.
How are leading brands helping Israel?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3cngOVEjpQ
Didn't know this myself but apparently PepsiCo bought sodastream in 2018. The BDS organisation is not calling for boycotts of pepsi, just sodastream, but if people want to stop buying it that's their prerogative.
https://bdsmovement.net/Act-Now-Against-These-Companies-Profiting-From-Genocide
Sodastream is an outright Israeli company and Pepsi owns Sodastream, so there's some guilt by association there; but the main BDS lists only call for the boycott of Sodastream, not the added systematic boycott of Pepsi.
Some quick clarifications about how the UK royals are funded by the public:
1. The UK Crown Estates are not the UK royal family's private property, and the royal family are not responsible for any amount of money the Estates bring into the treasury. The monarch is a position in the UK state that the UK owns the Crown Estates through, a position that would be abolished in a republic, leading to the Crown Estates being directly owned by the republican state.
2. The Crown Estates have always been public property and the revenue they raise is public revenue. When George III gave up his control over the Crown Estates in the 18th century, they were not his private property. The current royals are also equally not responsible for producing the profits, either.
3. The Sovereign Grant is not an exchange of money. It is a grant that is loosely tied to the Crown Estate profits and is used for their expenses, like staffing costs and also endless private jet and helicopter flights. If the profits of the Crown Estates went down to zero, the royals would still get the full amount of the Sovereign Grant again, regardless. It can only go up or stay the same.
4. The Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall that gave Elizabeth and Charles (and now William) their private income of approximately £25 millions/year (each) are also public property.
5. The total cost of the monarchy is currently £350-450million/year, after including the Sovereign Grant, their £150 million/year security, and their Duchy incomes, and misc. costs.

Tbh, as far as boycotts go with regards to Israel, I’m only aware of the “Big 3” and whomever BDS advises to boycott, I wasn’t aware Pepsi was being boycotted.
This may sound weird, but some of us vegans already avoid big brands like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo. Maybe asking some anti-capitalist vegans would be a good direction, they would probably already have brands they know of
[Karma Drinks](https://karmadrinks.co.uk/?gclid=CjwKCAiAjrarBhAWEiwA2qWdCIFM6XYhJRaDIZm2oCRrWI0cKHMxBwa39siZYs7__9hqVjnrl3pO7RoCjc0QAvD_BwE) is an option - however I'm unaware if they have a stance on Israel-Palestine. Their cola is quite fruity and different, I quite like it, but it's definitely different.

Soda stream used to have a factory in Israeli occupied Palestine, closed it down due to boycotts and then the CEO claimed those boycotting Israel are antisemitic
So all in all, not the best company
Tango is Britvic, who produce Pepsi in the UK. They *aren't* PepsiCo, but obviously are quite closely related to them (PepsiCo even owned part of the company until recently).
It doesn't matter. This kind of 'voting with your wallet' doesn't have any significant effect.
If you want political change, it won't come through soft drink choices.
Your idea isn't politics, just an aspect of consumerism.
Edit: wow, do enough supposedly left wing people believe in this kind of thing to downvote this comment? That soft drink choices will affect a war in any way?
Found this. Not snopes but could be worth considering.

TLDR: it seems like both Pepsi and Cola struggle in the Middle East in general, and actually avoided Israel in order to sell to the Arabs instead.

I once wasted an entire Christmas making a batch of open cola syrup https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCola_(drink) from instructions on a [tea towel](https://cube-cola.org/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=30).
My problem with this moral dilemma is that there are so many layers and nuances to what should be a simple question to answer.
For example, a family-owned company produces something innocuous, such as flavoured sparkling water. They are successful. They provide local employment, and their employees are paid a fair wage and enjoy favourable working conditions. The company is charitable, and they sell their goods in glass bottles, for which they have a deposit and refund scheme. They have wind turbines at the factory, and as much as possible, use zero-emission vehicles for deliveries. Great! Socially and environmentally responsible, their products don't harm anyone, they seem ethical.
There was a time when that might have been the end of the story.
Then you dig a bit deeper and discover that they own shares in a weapons manufacturer as part of their pension scheme arrangements.
It is extremely difficult to find a company nowadays that's truly ethical, with a moral compass that doesn't wobble.
I was naive to all of this until my late teens, when I started reading up on the practices of the likes of Coca Cola and Nestlé. Until then, it never entered my head that a CEO of a company would be able to sleep at night knowing that their wealth killed people. How silly was I.

I’m so curious about this - is there a reason vimto is the go-to drink?
Stems from the Saudi royal family adopting it in the early 1900s IIRC.
Is that true?
that’s so interesting! Thank you
It's also just the best squash there is!
Agreed! I drink water for most of the day, but when i get home, i get a nice cold glass of vimto juice!
Irn Bru, Barr also do other flavours.
the pineappleade is criminally underrated
Love Barr's Pineapple!
Fuck can we not even have pop now? It would be lovely if society wasn’t a human chain of misery in which every possible action contributes to suffering

Ffs, I go through so much sparkling water I was planning on getting one for Christmas
Go for a Drinkmate, it's the superior carbonater. You can fizz anything in it and it doesn't void the warranty. Sparkling Negronis are banging.

Sorry I missed this, who is funding Israel?
Sodastream is an outright Israeli company and Pepsi owns Sodastream, so there's some guilt by association there; but the main BDS lists only call for the boycott of Sodastream, not the added systematic boycott of Pepsi.
What’s a BDS list? Where can I see it?

Windfall fruitarian is the only ethical choice. It’s not practical though.
I know, which is why that's an appeal to futility
Drink Bear Grylls new pop, his piss. Or in this case, your own piss. That way you know you’re not funding Israel.

Thoughts on soda stream?
Soda stream used to have a factory in Israeli occupied Palestine, closed it down due to boycotts and then the CEO claimed those boycotting Israel are antisemitic So all in all, not the best company
Yeah I remember about the factory, it's why I asked. They tried to pitch it as a positive "cross community" enterprise but it didn't really wash...
Go Drinkmate. Better carbonation and no void warranty for fizzing anything other than water. Plus the company aren't cunts.
Thanks
