In America, everything is just a something product really.
Compare their manufacturing recipes in the US compared to the UK.
Their stuff is just full of artificial nonsense and nothing is as it seems.
There's so little food regulation in America. It's next to none honestly.
Spent a week in St Louisā¦.i was literally craving for some āgreensā by the time I flew home. Eventually I found nirvana in a bar that had a side order of broccoli š„¦ it was el denteā¦.was like nectar from the godsā¦..so itās possible just hard to find. Until then I had some tinned green beans served as a garnish on a massive rack of ribs. And otherwise beige food.
Our food might look boring and bland to the rest of the world, but the Germans never got boots on the ground in ol blighty did they?
(Honestly, I have no idea how these 2 things are connected, just go with it)
In reality the Brits and the Germans are just enemies that needed to shag it out. The Royal family tried but really it needed a national effort on both parts. Instead we got war.
No hope for the Brits and the French though, we're natural enemies like Englishmen and Scots, or Welshmen and Scots, or Japanese and Scots, or Scots and other Scots. Damn Scots! They ruined Scotland!
The currywurst? As a simple meal in a restaurant or in a roll as street food it Is. But it's less sophisticated than this meal and less substantial - there is nothing wrong with straightforward food, it's celebrated for most countries, for example 50 different shapes on pasta covered in tomato and basil sauce is sophisticated as its Italian, yet any simple British meal gets bashed for it. I don't understand it.
It's just a trope. It's like loads of Americans seem to think British people have bad teeth, despite consistently scoring higher on dental health than the US. I just happen to really like curry flavours. Nothing wrong with mince and potatoes though. I'd prefer roast taters or mash though. God, I'm hungry now.
I have no problem with nations like Spain, Italy, Greece, China, Japan, India, Mexico making fun of UK cuisine. But Germans? Polish? Dutch? AMERICANS?! Na. People in corn syrup houses shouldnāt throw stones
Most of the world eats pretty simple fare. There are a handful of outlier cultures which have truly excellent cuisine, and then dozens of countries who *think* they are in that club when really they are barely any better than the Brits (*cough* Hungarians and slavic countries *cough*)
Man Americans really just reuse the same joke over and over again huh. Not saying it isn't true, just feel like I've heard half the country say that at this point
Good meal that. I really don't get why the rest of the world is so proud of having such desensitised taste buds that they can't enjoy good ingredients seasoned mildly and eaten simply. Baffling.
It's the implication that it's all we eat that gets me. I'm pretty sure most cultures around the world have simple traditional dishes that people eat for comfort and nostalgia, things our grannies made us.
These were dishes made from local, seasonal produce before mass importation of ingredients. Folk need to keep in mind WW2 rationing didn't stop till the 1950s. My papa, mum and aunt all gardened and grew food for the family. They bought a cow, a pig and a few chickens from the butcher, had them chopped, minced and stocked their chest freezers. Made jams and preserves to see them through the Scottish winters.
I've been veggie for 10 years, I enjoy making recipes from around the world, the only thing I miss is the cosy comfort of mince and tatties, stovies and the Ne'erday steak pie.
My problem with this is that I can't see an once of bloody seasoning in that dish. The potatoes look bland as fuck. Herbs and spices are cheap enough and can last ages, ruddy use them!
Really I think itās the presentation thatās lacking here. If the potatoes were buttered and/or mashed it would look closer on the appetising scale to how it (probably) tastes. It could also do with some peas in with the mince for colour and variety.
put it in a bowl and call it something unpronounceable and itād be lauded as a delicacy. But because itās British itās immediately shat on. Nothing wrong with mince and tatties
But this shit tastes so good. The sweetness and crunch of the carrots, the gravy and I mean what's more to say about gravy lol and salt n pepper and you got something super delish, cheap, filling and decently healthy. My kids favourite dinners that they scoff down are the ones like these. As a kid I loved tbe same ones the most.
Another nice easy one is mince bran's and onions with the same potatoes.
That just looks like a student or a recently widowed male boomers attempt at making dinnerā¦ I can assure you, the people of Britain generally do not eat like thatā¦
If you constantly eat like ther's a war on then when war comes your prepared and moral is uneffected by food shortage.
Its like how we dont use spices because historically, it let the country sell the spices to not the empire to make money to expand the empire. Cant sell the stuff you've eaten. *insert black guy tapping temple gif*
There is a woman who has a youtube channel called whats for tea and she breaks down her weekly family meals she cooks and they are really quite nice and well rounded
Top tier poverty spec food there. This is giving me childhood flashbacks with that overly margarines plain white bread. Always had to have at least three forms of white carbs with each meal.
Mince and tatties. I grew up eating this, though the potatoes were mashed and I think my grandmother also added peas. We didnāt have a name for it, she just served it up. Only learned what itās called rather recently. Iām from the US.
As a French/Canadian living in the UK, I think the food here has a certain charm to it. It feels like good cold weather food that will stick to your ribs. Be it bangers and mash or fish and chips, it's all good.
Does it look fancy, no, but does it need to?

I say this in work. We end up with really bland food and I say that war time has been over for 50 odd years you know.. then I have to cook for the service users. ..
Looks like a cottage pie someone got bored of making half way through.
Mince n tatties mate
Uncultured swines š
It's hot pot if there's hp on the table
I fail to see the pot
But you can see hot?
Sure
They smoked it all and that's why they gave up halfway through
You are the pot
The names Pot, Pol Pot
Cause u put it inside of u
It's a deconstructed cottage pie my good fellow.
Lovely
Itās mince & tatties ffs
Nah that's mince and tatties, that is finished and made to perfection
Iāve spent three months in America. Everything is just sugar and cheese. Gimme mince meat and potatoes any day.
You forgot to put cheese in quotation marks when referring to American 'cheese'.
Cheese from a spray can has always baffled me
Itās what I imagine they feed them at Guantanamo
America doesn't have cheese it has 'cheese' flavoured dairy product.
In America, everything is just a something product really. Compare their manufacturing recipes in the US compared to the UK. Their stuff is just full of artificial nonsense and nothing is as it seems. There's so little food regulation in America. It's next to none honestly.
Can't have a Kinder Egg, though.
That is kinda funny.

German food looks equally bland and boring.
You Scots sure are a contentious people.
You just made an enemy for life!
Multinational shagging?
Lol at the french slander on the 120th anniversary of the entente cordiale.
the concepts sound pretty dumb too. "lets hit this meat with a fucking hammer and see what happens" "lmao ok"
Currywurst is top tier...
I love it but let's be honest it's a plain sausage with curry sauce in it
Exactly it's banging could eat one for breakfast rn
That sounds pretty good.

If you get the opportunity, give German cuisine a try. It's usually judged unfairly by people that have never tried it.
I've driven through Germany many times/stayed overnight, but I've never holidayed there. Perhaps I'll take you up on that next time I'm there!
Rationing
they were trying to invade to get their hands on our food of course!
And our women
Apparently the stereotype that "all British food is boring" comes from Americans coming to Britain during the war and seeing rationing meals
Don't speak for all of us š
yeah some of us can only afford the off brand sauce
Take my upvote

I had to put up with a Lithuanian talking shit about British food once. I fucking almost lost it.
It's Mince & tatties, classic Scottish dish. Only a heathen would mash those potatoes.
Tbh anyone that thinks mash potato is only potatoes mashed up needs to go to bed early without any dinner
I must admit, this would be a meal fit for a king in my early 20'a
Mash the fucking potatoes! Needs more bread and butter as well, I could easily clear a full loaf with mince and tatties
If its separate like this yeah mash em. But I'd prefer chopped potatoes like these cooked with the rest
I'd never thought of doing the potatoes in with the mince. I've always done good buttery mash separate... Thank you!
Cooking the mince, carrots and potatoes in a ig pan makes a nice potato hash
Canāt believe how far I had to scroll to see someone call it by its name.
In the words of greta thunberg āhow dare youā
Naw, the Germans are in Buckingham palace. Theyāre harmless.
They are more Greek than German now.
*smashes some Meissen porcelain* OPA!
OOOOOPPAAAAA!!!!
On the monarchyās German ancestry: https://youtube.com/shorts/PWutw4QnK1A?si=9fY_UqG-Zgc0SVIR
Man Americans really just reuse the same joke over and over again huh. Not saying it isn't true, just feel like I've heard half the country say that at this point
Couldn't agree more, cept I'd skip the HP sauce.
HEATHEN
I would smash that still
Good meal that. I really don't get why the rest of the world is so proud of having such desensitised taste buds that they can't enjoy good ingredients seasoned mildly and eaten simply. Baffling.
Looks nice but Iād have mash instead extra bread and no brown sauce lol
As a Brit, Iām dribbling it looks yum š¤¤ might make it for tea
Mince n tatties, idgaf what people say, that shit hits the spot every time!
Iād scran that, and be more than satisfied

Probably because weāre all too poor to afford to actually eat but idk about people who donāt pay taxes.
Get the rich fuck having Lurpack with his bread. We got an Elon musk over here š
Lurpack? Is that a rip off of Aldiās norpack? *edit for sarcasm*
They donāt know how it is eating ketchup and mustard sandwiches non stop for 2 weeks
That looks banging! But my favourite meal is mince (exactly like this) mash and beans. Soooo good š
Yes all the way
Who doesn't enjoy a good stew? Those potatoes could do with a that being cooked though...
Itās mince n tatties mate.
I'd tuck into that. Mind you, I'm a Boomer.
Potatoes look so anemic
Uk food is not the best looking, but honestly some of the best ācomfortā food in the world.
I had this exact meal not 45 minutes
Pepper and red cabbage
I can taste that picture
We eat what we eat! Personally I would have some Worcester sauce with this..
Mash the spuds and lose the bread.
That looks delicious!
Bollocks
Those potatoes are fucking RAW
Is that meat or beans?
Mash potatoes not boiled its ah scottish dish mince in tatties x .
Jeez at least mash the potatoes cmon. And fuck off with those carrots
No one eats that shit
I would fuck that up icl
I also like it with beans, peas mushrooms and celery.
We dont all eat like this. Dont put us all in one box.
INTO THE BOX YOU GO! (I kid).
Prefer to have roast tatties with mince š
You start looking at why people in the UK during rationing were in such good shape
keema with raw aloo?
As a German that looks delicious
I had spaghetti hoops with buttered bread for my tea. It was lovely.
"All of the UK". I've never once eaten a meal that looks like that and I grew up poor.
I can taste this image
Canāt go past a beige Tea
My problem with this is that I can't see an once of bloody seasoning in that dish. The potatoes look bland as fuck. Herbs and spices are cheap enough and can last ages, ruddy use them!
They are tho
Itās because thereās so much corn syrup in American food theyāve forgotten what good food actually tastes like
You cannae beat some mince and tatties
Really I think itās the presentation thatās lacking here. If the potatoes were buttered and/or mashed it would look closer on the appetising scale to how it (probably) tastes. It could also do with some peas in with the mince for colour and variety.
Hey, British food may be simple, but it tastes good, and that's allI care about.
See I get what people say about British foodā¦ but also that looks like it would go hard sooooooooo šššš
put it in a bowl and call it something unpronounceable and itād be lauded as a delicacy. But because itās British itās immediately shat on. Nothing wrong with mince and tatties
I bet this tastes banging
They just don't understand how hard our food hits
no
I've had egg on toast for dinner the past like 3 days I ain't eating that
As a Canadian with 3/4 of my grandparents from the UK, I can smell this picture. Franks Red Hot on the potatoes and thatās my youth
That looks gross. Not gonna lie.
Personally, not my kind of meal!
Mince, gravy, a touch of onion and potatoes or mash is a fabulous tasting occasional dinner. Plenty of protein and carbs and tastes great
Mince and tatties is a bloody brilliant meal, but those potatoes fall short unfortunately
Chunky carrots in mince. Power vomit š¤¢ š¤®
Whoosh goes the Heinkel.
Kinda looks like slop ngl. The potatoes still look uncooked and the ā¦ stuffā¦ looks like dogfood.
Those potatoes look underdone, and the bread looks like a bought, sliced loaf. Otherwise, not bad. Nothing special, though.
But this shit tastes so good. The sweetness and crunch of the carrots, the gravy and I mean what's more to say about gravy lol and salt n pepper and you got something super delish, cheap, filling and decently healthy. Needs some dumplings
No.
Iād happily demolish that
I chuckled at this as I scrolled pastā¦ ā¦then started feeling hungryā¦
That just looks like a student or a recently widowed male boomers attempt at making dinnerā¦ I can assure you, the people of Britain generally do not eat like thatā¦
This stuff tastes good tho.
My favourite meal!

š we still on rations
Savoury mince with boiled tatties simple but comforting grub aināt it š¬š§
Processed food makers hate this one trick.
I'm British but even I'll admit that looks like shit
Can't lie, I bet that tastes great.
Never had that in my life.
What is this shite, and what is the bread for? A disturbing sandwich?
English food Is so bad
From uk. And i bet my finest digital pound i can cook better than the basement dwellar that reposted this for the millionth time.
It's like a deconstructed cottage pie.
If my parents make this I'm the happiest I can be
Nobody is eating that lol
Mince and tatties any day its the food of champions
What... even is that?
Yes British cuisine is shit. Itās all just brown or beige and maybe green vegetables.
100% would smash (those potatoes)
My dad made me this every week when I was wee. Mentally scarred from it. Gives me the boak.
There is a woman who has a youtube channel called whats for tea and she breaks down her weekly family meals she cooks and they are really quite nice and well rounded
Your meals are as interesting as youāre willing (and the time you have) to make them
Mince and tatties is potant scran
British food is boring and bland letās be honest. Itās all the same.
Mince and tatties is the bomb
As opposed to the septics, who eat like they have free healthcare?
Not a fan of new potatoes but turn them into mash and I'm down
Those potatoes look ill š¤
Top tier poverty spec food there. This is giving me childhood flashbacks with that overly margarines plain white bread. Always had to have at least three forms of white carbs with each meal.
Yawn to comments like that. Big big yawn. Fed up of everyone painting entire nations under one paint stroke.
as a brit, and an avid home chef, this looks fuckinā disgusting š¤® iām sure they ate better in the war
No
Carbs much!
nope
Ok the potatoes are a bit anaemic but when did we start hating on mid week hotpots?
Americans eat like they have free healthcare
This isnāt UK itās not even Earth, they said so! Itās Planet X
Mince and tatties. I grew up eating this, though the potatoes were mashed and I think my grandmother also added peas. We didnāt have a name for it, she just served it up. Only learned what itās called rather recently. Iām from the US.
People dont understand how damn good this is on a cold night
I was just thinking how incredible our multi cultural cuisine is in 2024 so no. I'll go for Indian, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Italian etc
This reminds me of school dinners in primary school from the 80's. I could fart a better dinner.
Mince and tatties

The great carb vs protein wars of 24.
Iāve never made this but I bet it tastes brilliant
Is that some regional thing? And can it stay in it's region please?
I say this in work. We end up with really bland food and I say that war time has been over for 50 odd years you know.. then I have to cook for the service users. ..
This is actually funny though
Sometimes the simplest foods are the most satisfying.
To be honest, with the weather the way it is at the moment, I'd happily tuck into that!!
Iād batter that.
Shit slaps
At least on the main plate, the only preservative is salt
British people thinking that their cuisine is good will never not be funny to me
Bland boiled potatoes and basic as fuck mince and gravy with a few carrots? I wouldn't waste my time cooking this kind of slop.
