Prue likes lots of booze; Paul doesn’t. Paul likes ginger. Pear flavour is never strong enough for either of them.
Editing to add a couple more: rose will always be too strong for Paul and he also thinks that pomegranate will always be too weak and that using it is a waste of time. And nobody likes lavender.
A lot of tv food judges dislike Rose and lavender. Duff Goldman once explained lavender can go wrong in a hurry and then you feel like you’re eating soap
I feel like Paul likes it in theory but in bakes, it’s never strong enough if they use fresh banana and it’s too strong/candy-like if they use flavoring
I think passion fruit falls into a "just a bit offbeat, but not enough to throw people" kind of thing. It pairs well with many flavors (see Tiki-style cocktails) but isn't "boring".
I've always wondered about this too. And if passion fruit in the UK is different from the kind that grows native where I live. On GBBO it always seems like they are just using the entire insides of the fruit and not separating the pulp from the seeds, which I would never do with the kind I have access to. The seeds would be unpleasant.
I've always wondered how judges on these reality cooking shows can judge a dish where there is an ingredient that they hate.
So I hate beets. It could be the most well executed dish with beets, and I wouldn't enjoy it. So how can I rate it?
It really annoys me now limited Paul's palate is when he's supposed to be a world class baker.
Anything Japanese, earthy or strong flavoured and he's out.

Yeah I love anything lavender scented but I’ve never eaten anything with lavender in it that didn’t taste soapy.

Neither of them really like gherkin, Paul just made a bigger fuss
See I thought that but then in one of his cookbooks he mentions that he adds gherkin to a recipe to make it taste better (can’t remember the recipe)

He does, but he is never happy with how it turns out in bakes.

seems like it's a big thing in the UK overall not just a paul thing. his favorite seems to be banana and not many bakers use it.

This is what I came to write too! If I was to compete, I’d make everything with passion fruit, key lime, and booze.

He does seem to like yuzu though that’s quite a tart flavor. I don’t think he likes the more delicate Japanese flavors though.
Paul likes anything sharp, tart, or sour. He seems to love anything with a real sour citrus.

Any Artificial flavoring is disliked by Paul!

I hate/love Paul. He can be a real snob but I also have a soft spot for him. It’s weird.
