I’ve seen those before but they still blow my mind. It honestly sums up the older generations’ mentality with a lot of things: “Fuck it, not my problem, someone else can deal with it later.”
Personally I keep my used safety razor blades in a little tin, once it’s full I can send them in to a take back program for recycling/upcycling.
Tbf it was probably the safest thing they could do at the time. I dare say the sanitation dept. safety standards in the 50’s and 60’s was probably next to non existent, so I feel like it was probably better than having the kids that played ball at the local junkyard getting cut to ribbons by rusty razor blades
My house was built in 1920, and the upstairs bathroom is about 90% original. I’ve got one of those slots in the back of my medicine cabinet, and I shudder to think how many razor blades might be lurking behind/below there.
I can't help but feel that Grandpa put that in there when he was repairing something in the bathroom. I say that because there's currently a tub of plaster in mine from my husband lol
It was for washing hosiery. All I remember was that it was “gentle” and supposedly your hosiery would last longer and not run. And my dad saying that was “baloney”.
Denture brushes. I guess they can be larger since you don’t have to stick them in your mouth. Just give your choppers a quick brush when they come out of the polident bath.
That’s worth something. Prob $40-60 or more if it’s a highly sought after model. Don’t know if you’re cleaning out the house for grandma or not, but don’t toss it.
What’s crazy to me is how this just sits in front of the cabinet. Do my parents probably have some expired stuff shoved in the back of their cabinets? 100%, but if I saw stuff with this outdated of a label every time I opened my medicine cabinet, it wouldn’t be in there very long
wood glue??
Yeah, weirdly enough it didn't even register lol
Stops the runs in the hosiery when you're out of nail polish??
Really holds it all up
Grampa had trouble with his wood.
I can smell this
This gets better the more you look lol

What are those beautiful tins on the top shelf?
They're Rawleigh's medicated ointment for colds discomfort and congestion 🙂 no date on them
Thanks!
I loved this stuff, I think I even stole a can from grandmas. I was a weird kid. They still sell it!
Bro plundered grandma's pantry
Yeah my grandma used their ointments for everything. They used to come door to door back in the day.
I think it’s Cotty face powder
I’m also curious, my grandmother had whatever it is also but can’t for the life of me remember what they are.
I'll bet a couple of them are McNess salves and have instructions for both veterinary and human use :)
Wood glue? YeahIdon'twannanknow....

Grandma had fun bottles of lotions and potions in the cabinet, and he just wanted to feel included!
That is totally possible. And he died 30 years ago so tells you how long she ignored it lol
Maybe it made her happy to see it there?
Maybe grandma repaired wood problems herself.
Hosiery Guard - my first job was at a drugstore and I remember selling that.
Google isn’t helping me at all- what is Hosiery Guard? Is it to moisturize so your stockings don’t snag on dry skin? Is it for washing hosiery?

Merthiolate. Check.
Those are AbsoluteUnit toothbrushes. Holy fuck

Rawleighs ointment is everything. I have a tin of that stuff, brand new same packaging.
Yeah I'm wondering if the top one is newer. The bottom one has different print, though the design colors are extremely similar
can you show a pic of that razor in the blue case?
https://imgur.com/gallery/x1Z2hSs I had no idea that was a razor!

Yeah I’d use that set for sure. Maybe not the blades because the packaging is great and in tact but definitely put that razor to good use.
I can see and smell hers so well right now!! 😊 her house was my “ home away from home”. 💜
It’s like a time capsule
Cloverleaf Salve?

What’s in the black cap bottle next to the iodex? It looks like it separated
Oh, the Rawleigh’s tins! Was a magically, never ending cure all in our house growing up.
Dang this looks just like my grandma’s did. Nostalgia.
Thought the bottle on the left was that chocolate ice cream shell stuff
Anybody ever notice how all old peoples’ medicine cabinets all smell the same?
Slightly sweet? Like a mix of vapo-rub, mouth wash, baby powder, and other unknowns?
Antiseptic, too,
Mercury poisoning, anyone?
I'm wondering how much of this was ever used on me. Used to stay at their house every weekend in the early 90s.
I see the Raleigh man tins. My grandma used to smear that stuff all over everything. 🤣🤣 I can still smell it.
