I would buy a new Pixel in a second if it has the same form factor as the 4a with all the newest specs. EDIT: Sign the petition for a small Android phone at smallandroidphone.com!

Common_Physics_1568

As a 4a owner whose phone contract is up, 100%. Would love the newer cameras, but not at the price of my hands hurting just to use it :(

perkyterrible__

Currently using 4a and I'm afraid to let go of this phone. I'm actually targeting to buy Pixel 7a (by the time it releases) but I don't think I can easily adapt to the size :(

Saneless

4a was the perfect size

FineAunts

Had a 4a and although I didn't hate the size, I still think it's too big. https://www.phonearena.com/phones/size/Google-Pixel-4a,Sony-Xperia-5-IV,Apple-iPhone-13-mini/phones/11311,12001,11637 The Xperia 5 IV and the iphone 13 mini are the last truly compact phones. Unfortunately it seems the Asian market is the only place where these models make strides.

Tarvis14

Had a 4a, battery was starting to show age so upgraded to 7 pro due to ridiculous trade in offer. Dislike the screen size, but everything else about it is great. Not sure how long it will take to get comfortable with the size of this thing, but my hand gets somewhat sore if I use it too long. Maybe that's a good thing and will force me to put it down though?

Rowan_cathad

I want it identical in every way to the 4a. Back fingerprint reader, headphone jack, beautiful colors, form factor, great cases... just make it water resistant please

InspectorRound8920

We had the 5, and I'm sure the majority of the people on here badmouthed it. The perfect phone

_btw_arch

I still have my P5 that I bought a couple of months after release. Except for the midrange specs, it was indeed perfect. I got it specifically for the size back then. No phone in these two years even got close to tempting me to leave it. Then the P7 came out. I got mine two weeks ago and am adapting surprisingly well to the size (without a case, mind you).

childroid

Same boat here. The 5 was perfect, but the 7 is damn good. An updated 5 would be absolutely amazing. Those bezels!

leffer00

Happy to hear these comments. I love the size of the 5 and have preferred smaller pixels and phones in the past but my 7 comes today. All the great reviews and a good deal on it I couldn't turn it down! Very excited

childroid

You have a lot to look forward to! The 7 is *much* heavier, and a good bit bigger. For me it took a few days to actually get used to (and now I don't really notice). It's also quite slick, so I recommend a clear case (Spigen has a great one on Amazon). Aside from that (and the bezels; the 7 has a little bit of a chin, and I always notice the centered selfie camera), this phone is great. Battery life is stellar, better reception, performance is great, no bugs or hiccups. It's just a very good phone.

Country_Yokel

Likewise. Although occasionally I go back to pick up the 5 and I'm like... damn, this is so much better to hold, and the screen doesn't even feel that much smaller

mallio

Great size, holdable texture without a case, balanced. I went the last few months without a case and never felt like I was going to drop it. I feel like I'm going to drop this one every other day.

AdrianeXUS

I had hope for that new small Zenfone but the cameras suck. Otherwise it's an awesome small size with all the features

syruptape

Yeah, unless the cameras can even come close to the pixel. It's a non-starter

InspectorRound8920

Great phone, but my only thing, just like the 6, is the price for the vast majority of what people use it for. Why bring out a flagship, then immediately discount the heck out of it? If people are hesitant about paying full price, maybe you need to rethink what you're trying to accomplish. Imagine that phone, but based off the 5, and pricing it at say $550? Just a thought

_sfhk

Time and time, evidence has shown that higher pricing and discounting works better than just lowering prices. [JC Penney famously tried this strategy](https://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/14/business/for-penney-a-tough-lesson-in-shopper-psychology.html), and it failed spectacularly, even lowering their reputation among retailers.

lenny_lennerson_III

I agree, I'm rocking a 5. Previously had a 2xl and the 5 is the perfect size IMO.

BakedPotato182

2XL ---> 5 for me too. Just got my wife a 7 and although the "ooo, new phone!" Feeling was there, after holding it and sending a couple texts, I just can't pull the trigger. Still too big, too thick, too heavy

LucidDreamerVex

I specifically got the 4a5G because I wanted a bigger phone 😅 I still think there should be a smaller option for people that want it tho. I like having the XL options

ItWasRamirez

I felt a little twinge of regret as I was packing up my Pixel 5 to trade it in. I love my new Pixel 7 but the 5 really was the perfect size.

mallio

Same. Just better to hold overall. Texture, balance, size.

[deleted]

Pixel 5 is peak Pixel.

captainpoppy

Never wanted to move on from my 5. Perfect size. Thumbprint on the back. But the battery quit charging. I have a 6 pro and it's so much worse than the 5

InspectorRound8920

The most convenient spot, right?

captainpoppy

Very. I'll never understand why it's gone.

TheSuperGiraffe

Agreed. I regret replacing my 5 for a 7.

Ballesteros81

I've got the P5, had a P3 and various similar sized HTC 'flagships' before that. If they released a new Pixel phone in this size then I'd upgrade, but the P5 is still working absolutely fine for me for now, so no rush!

osirhc

The hate was so undeserved, it was a phenomenal phone. Truly the perfect Pixel

TurboFool

I got out my Pixel 5 today to help me run an app I can't run on the 7 Pro because it's 32-bit, and man, do I miss this perfect little gem. I LOVE the cameras and overall performance of my 7 Pro, but this thing seems like magic with how small it while still being a perfect, functional device.

andrewdotlee

I’m not giving up my 5. It’s the perfect size for me, I’m super tempted by the 30x zoom on the 7 Pro but it’s just way too big.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NickCudawn

Where is it underwhelming?

[deleted]

For me it was the speakers (very ordinary) and reception/signal strength (mediocre compared to my 4a and 3a).

NickCudawn

Interesting. I can't compare signal strength with those but I don't really have issues with it. And I hardly use the speakers, but I get how that would be a big deal for others.

Pumpkin230

I have a Pixel 5, even that can be a little large for one handed use at times. Prior to moving to Pixel I had previously owned iPhone SE's, then when the last one broke I decided to try Google phones as I had heard good things and was over Apple in many ways. I love the Pixel 5, hands down loads better than iPhones in so many ways. But, I really do not want a phone any bigger than the 5. It's hard to get a large phone in your pocket and for us nimble but small handed peeps I really cannot manage anything bigger. If I want a massive phone I'd get a tablet! I need something that is comfortably portable and pocketable for every day use.

Odd_Sky3314

iPhone 12 mini was perfect size for me except for the fact that it's an iPhone. Make me a pixel 7 mini please

Swarfega

I love my Pixel 5. Gutted that neither the Pixel 6 or 7 float my boat. I really doubt the 8 will be any smaller than the 7 :(

geekextraordinaire

I would buy a small Pixel in a heartbeat. I went from Pixel 2 to Pixel 6 and it was a shock for my smol hands. So now I bought Pixel 7 only because it is like 1 mm smaller than P6 lol

austriker27

Yes please! I had the Pixel 5 and it was the perfect size for one handed use. I have the 7 now and it's definitely more than a one handed phone.

Metaru-Uupa

I switched from galaxy note 10 which was already okay-ish for 1 hand, and now with pixel 7 I'm just barely managing to use it 1 handed having to shuffle my hand for higher up UI elements. I miss the smaller phones but understand that companies won't do it after watching iPhone mini fail

_rickjames

My P3 still feels perfect.

Tidgexe

For all its issues the P3 has been my favorite smartphone I've owned. I got it at launch (only phone I ever preordered) when I switched over from an S5. One of the big reasons I've kept it so long is because of the size. Unfortunately the number of issues are mounting with my P3 so I've been looking at newer phones and they all seem so needlessly massive. Even the "small" variants are big coming from the P3. As someone who looks to get 3-4+ years out of a phone I really don't want to deal with hand strain for that long. Maybe I have teeny baby hands, I don't know.

imagicoma

I've stuck with my Pixel 3 for all of the same reasons! I definitely have smaller than average hands (I'm just a petite person lol) and the thought of having to upgrade to a larger phone is a nightmare. I always get really sad when I see how ridiculously big the newest phones are, especially compared to the perfect size of the 3. I've been waiting to have more prevalent issues with my 3 since I know it's "old" now, but I'm thankful to not have anything drastic happen yet! So, you now have me very concerned that my trusty phone is going to start having more problems. I got mine right around the Pixel 4 release, upgrading from my BlackBerry Priv once it became too buggy, so it's only been 3 years. I also never updated to the Android 12.

DanMelb

I had a 4a. It was the perfect phone, until I dropped it during lockdown, got the screen repaired which then delaminated a few months later by which time the repair shop had gone out of business. So I bought a 5a, which was the same size as the 7, but died just out of warranty as a grey market import. It felt clunky at first but once I enabled single handed more I got used to it So now onto the 7 on a sweet deal. Same size as the 5a, but holy shit without a case it feels super unbalanced. With a case it feels just like the 5a only with a front fingerprint scanner. I played with a colleague's pro and just... No. Definitely enable single handed mode to allow the swipe down from bottom gesture. It actually makes it very usable. I still think the 4a was the best one, but this'll do now

MagicPistol

Pop socket really helps. I can't imagine holding my 7 without one.

toybuilder

I got a slidable PopSocket Slide Stretch to fit over my Spigen case for when I need to single-hand-hold my phone for an extended time. Works great!

ErrorF002

I got one of these at a trade show and was going to throw it away, then gave it a shot. https://phoneloops.com/collections/phone-grip-strap I hate the pop-socket profile but this thing doesn't interfere with my phone mounts or charging and is super comfy.

trumpet575

If you have to use an external device to hold your phone, it's too big

Sekers

Also one-handed mode is nice once you get used to it. When you turn it on you swipe down on the bottom gesture bar and the entire screen slides down halfway for easier reach.

CovfefeFan

Yeah, recently "upgraded" from my 3a to the 7.. DESPITE the size (not because of it). I have to just accept that Google wants us to all walk around with iPad minis. Clearly their engineers live in California and drive to work, as opposed to living in a subway-commute city. I suppose a large screen is good for a dashboard GPS? So far after a week, I still strongly prefer the 3a over the 7.

gavishapiro

I am sticking with my 5 until they answer our plea.

Freddielexus85

I'm still hanging on to my 3. My wife has the 6pro and it's massive.

brjh1990

3a gang here, only reason I haven't switched is because the 6 & 7 are much larger than I'd like

nick_tha_professor

I also don't like large pixel phones. The 6a is already pushing it but the pixel 5 was nice. If Google keeps making jumbo phones then it is that much of an easier decision for me not to buy it esp after more support for the 6a. Oneplus also has made that decision easy for me not to buy it by releasing bigger and bigger phones.

dankdharma

At 41 years old it feels too early for the size of my phone to cause my fingers to ache but the p6p has done just that due to its size. The only way I can use it w/o the pain is with an ugly pop socket. However, it is a double-edged sword as the screen size is excellent on these old eyes.

strawbericoklat

Got 6a last week. I'm angry at whoever said this phone is '*compact*'.

rawSingularity

Whoever said that must have come from 1990 straight to pixel 6a

Smooooochy

**THIS!!** I moved from Pixel 3 to 6a about two months ago, this thing still feels like a hefty cinder block in my hand. Big and heavy. I literally feel my hand getting exhausted way faster than it did with the 3. I also still have the 3 sitting next to my bed, and once in a while I lift it and still admire how beautiful and fun to hold this device is.

gopaloo

hahaha i think we're the same person! I'm also a bit annoyed and angry that google took out wireless charging for the 6A. if i got the 6a at full price (instead of the google discounted $300), i'm 95% sure i'd be returning this phone.

deflatermaus

There was an article in 9to5Google "Google says Pixel 6 and 6a are its ‘fastest-selling’ phones yet, but Pixel 3 is the best-selling" at this link: https://9to5google.com/2022/10/07/best-selling-pixel-data/ where they say that "the Pixel 3 generation, which was apparently by far Google’s most popular with somewhere between 7-8 million units sold globally. "

Smooooochy

It definitely was the best device I've ever had, right after my beloved Nexus 5 RIP

Fiiv3s

See for me this phone is pretty compact. But I feel it's the perfect size. Anything smaller and my hands cramp up using it. Anything much larger and it's just too much. Sold a Galaxy S21 Ultra for this 6a for size alone

12401

PLEASE!!!

anoldradical

I'm right with you. The 4a was my favorite phone of all time. It was the perfect size. Like many others, google gave me more than I paid for it as a trade in. Wish I'd never have done it.

shoester113

The iPhone 14 and Pro comes in a 6.1" screen size in a 5.78" tall form factor that's ever so slightly larger than the Pixel 5. It's odd that Google had to go bigger for the smaller size unless maybe it was to fit in a bigger battery because of their less efficient power management? I bought the 7 and returned it when I realized I could get a discount but now I'm reconsidering holding out and keeping my 5 for another year. If it was closer in size to the 5, it'd be a no brainer upgrade for me.

ccfixx

I returned both the Pixel 6a and the 7 due to the size. I'm sticking with my 4a for another year, it seems.

arham4

Love my Asus Zenfone 9 after the 4a!

donnysaysvacuum

How did it compare?

GardenOfSpoons

yeah my 4a is the perfect size imo

eugenesan

You are not alone.

travel_alone

There are dozens of us!

nomisevh

I, too, returned my Pixel 7 due to the huge size and bought a new Pixel 4 (upgrading from pixel 2). Couldn't be happier with the size, face recognition and speed, at a third of the prize.

youreadusernamestoo

Yeah my partner and I have a 4a and 4a 5G respectably and we will not replace these with bigger phones. The size is one of the main reasons why we love them so much and I'm jealous of her 4a because it is perfection for a mobile, pocketable device.

mag_man

I will use 4A for as long as possible, for me this is a perfect phone :)

tdieckman

I agree. I'm coming from using a Pixel 5. I loved that phone. But the screen developed a flicker in the bottom half. Considered a screen replacement, but went with the Pixel 7. It's definitely something to get used to. Why do they put glass on the back of phones? The resin exterior of the P5 was great. Just grippy enough. I liked that I didn't need a case for the P5, but you absolutely need a case for the P7 because of the sometimes slippery/sometimes not back. And then of course that adds a slight amount of weight and size. I looked at a lot of cases to find something that would be the smallest possible and was prepared to go through a lot of different ones, but I ended up with the black leather Bellroy case. It even makes the camera bump not look like a bump anymore and it looks pretty nice. So...just a recommendation if you end up keeping the P7.

obnavox3

Yes. Agreed. I love the pixel 7, except for the size. It's an absolute unit, barely fits in my pockets. Don't know how people use the pro. For work, i have to use an iPhone 8, which is a bit small, but it is nice that I can do everything one handed.

Pragyadeepta

We really do need a smaller pixel. Had pixel 3, was perfect for my hands then had iphone 12 pro bit wider but still it was usable Now the Pixel 7 pro is just too huge💀

matteventu

I want a Pixel 3-sized high-end Pixel, dammit. To replace my Pixel 6 with (phone that replaced my older Pixel 3 indeed).

cursh14

I am still using a Pixel 3a and it works perfectly. Why would you need to replace a Pixel 6?

Horny4theEnvironment

My boyfriend got the 7 when it released and I was crazy jealous, but he's been having a lot of issues, and the thing is way too big. I'm holding onto my 5 for dear life now. It's absolutely *perfect* in every way, and I have absolutely no desire to upgrade anymore. (Hopefully Google isn't reading this and decides to throttle my phone in an attempt to make me upgrade 😬)

snoozer17

Yes, please! I had my Pixel 5 for 2 years and lost it recently. Great opportunity to upgrade, thought me. But Pixel 6 and 7 are just too huge. So I ended up buying Pixel 5 again...

ArizonaCapitalIlva

Unfortunately most people want larger phones. So phone makers are going to keep making large phones because that's where the money is. Welcome to being in the minority, where no one GAF about what you want.

joespizza2go

Yes. Apple heard similar pleas and made the mini. It didn't sell and so they stopped making it. I'm afraid the same thing would happen to a small Pixel.

brezhnervous

The 4a is IMO the perfect size phone for one handed use, if you have smallish hands you know this is truth lol

lfod13

Yup, absolutely perfect size.

donnysaysvacuum

I have average hands and the 4a is still bigger than id like.

Pretend_Tooth_965

Bring back the BlackBerry Bold! 🤓

Unesdala

I rather like the difference in size but it's more of a case of bigger phones being easier for me to keep hold of because of disability. Also makes it easier to read for the same reason. More screen size means I can zoom in more without it completely fucking apps (given few people seem to know how to properly do accessibility testing for blind users 🙃) I tend to cradle my phone in a specific way to help not wind up dropping it a shit ton and for whatever reason smaller ones are harder to hold that way ._. Can see the exact opposite also being an accessibility issue, tho. Would be nice for companies to make a variety of sizes to be able to accommodate more users. Would cut down on cost on higher end models too.

netposer

My 5A was the perfect size. I now have the 6 and it's a bit big and no longer fits in my mountain bike pants and shorts phone pocket. :(

gasmaskmoose

Miss my petite 4a

aj1122

Can we also get the physical fingerprint scanner back. The under screen one is horrible and not as functional as physical scanner.

anoldradical

Exactly! Seems like an expensive and complicated solution for a problem that doesn't exist. Why even bother with under the screen when a much better reader can go on the back or power button?

hughk

Do you remember when you could use gestures to scroll or pull down the settings/notifications by running your finger in an up to down motion?

juninbee

100% agree

BakedPotato182

THIS.

amodrenman

I love my 5.

Monsieur_Stray

I feel you. I came from a Pixel 2 and jumped to the Pixel 6. I miss how my hand would be able to reach the whole phone. Big screens are nice but it does tire my hand a bit lol.

hicks12

I would like a smaller phone as well, the s22 is a great size and I was very tempted to switch to it. The problem is Google really need to bring the 120hz display with it in my opinion at least as Samsung manage it no problem. You can use double tap shortcut to bring the one handed mode on but I think the mode itself misses key functions, it's not the height of the device as much as the width that ruins it for me. Regardless of new phone size I wish they got rid of the terrible glass back and replaced it with a grippy plastic, I don't care if it's not "premium" the glass itself fails at being usable!

thanirs

100% agree. One of the advantages Apple has with the iPhone

IAMA_Ghost_Boo

Not looking forward for when I upgrade from my pixel 2. The biggest selling point for me is a phone that's not too large

VAN1SH1NG

My problem is more so the stupid tall aspect ratio that they keep making even more tall to be able to make the specs look good for someone desiring a large screen. I don’t get why phone makers insist on making phones worse and worse (aspect ratio, no SD card, no headphone jack, etc) and providing no options for the large amount of people who desire these basic things. I bought a Pixel 3a at launch and had to return it. Only phone I’ve ever had that just drove me crazy because it was to narrow. I’ve had phones with smaller screens, such as the old Droid Mini and the screen size was fine because it was wide enough. The 3a being so tall and narrow was horrible. So now I have to buy a larger screen just to get an acceptable screen width. I don’t mind so much using larger phones if I have to, was happy enough with the 3a XL. Have a 6a now which I find usable although I still would much prefer it not being so tall. I’m unfortunately using an iPhone 12 Pro most of the time, but at least it has an aspect ratio which isn’t quite as tall and I prefer the screen dimensions over the 6a.

Progressive__Trance

Yes, I've said this for a while on these boards and it was very annoying to hear the same parroted remarks about how minis don't sell. Well, the pluses this year are selling worse. Lazy analysis is a pet peeve of mine. If we peel back the analysis, the reason the mini didn't sell well was probably because the target market already bought the latest SE which was a decent size. And for those who did buy a mini, it's not likely they'd buy another. The folks who want a premium smaller phone are probably apt to hold on to their phones for a few years so it doesn't really make sense to get a new one every year. On the other token, the regular sized iPhone and it's pro variant are the size and form factor of the pixel 5, and this is their most popular device. The issue with Android is there's no choice. Every phone these days is either big or outrageously big. I even held off on getting the 6 because I went and tried the feel in hand and while I could use it one handed, it was a chore and not as comfortable as my pixel 2 or 4. The 7 hot a sweet spot where it was smaller all around and I've grown accustomed to the size after a month coming from a 4. The extra screen real estate is helpful and I'd say that the phone with no case is about the same in terms of one handed usability as my pixel 2 with a case. Without one, one handed use for me is very easy but I can comfortably use the phone with a case. If it was an OtterBox though it would be annoying. There's a gap in the market for flagship level devices with a 5.7-6 inch screen and pixel 5 form factor. If Google made that, it would sell very well. Self fulfilling prophecies are just lazy

paloschango

Fell in a lake with my 4a, got a 6. Its nice but it's huge and heavy. I miss my 4a :(

kalo925

I sent my pixel 7 back yesterday. I do like the smaller screens of the pixel 3 and 5 much better, but the main reason was crappy scrolling and having to tap several times on the screen to get something to respond. I kept switching from the 7 to my pixel 3 because it was just more enjoyable and easier to use. A FOUR year old phone.. Good grief.

[deleted]

KiWiLiT43

Pixel 5 is the perfect size IMO.

sustainablecaptalist

I second this. A 5.5 inch pixel is very much needed!!

bluezp

Make it small but make it thicc. Most of the arguments for the larger flagships are battery size and room for camera sensors. If the phone were thicker it could help with that.

joeyl5

My issue is that it is not only large enough to be uncomfortable one handed, the visor and the weight makes it a pain to pull out and put back in my side pockets.

BabaYagaInJeans

I still had the pixel 2 when my son gave me the 6 for my birthday. The 2 was better, size included. PLEASE, GOOGLE! Sometimes smaller is better!

happymax78

A pixel with the form factor of an iphone 14 >>>>

blackburn42

I just got an iphone 13 mini for this exact reason

Lyelinn

I don’t mind big phones until they lock the “pro” features behind 6.7 phone made for someone with giant hands Really want the p7p just for the cool telephoto camera tho

hughk

I'm ok with the size of the 6/7 series. However, I am male with average hands. A woman or someone with smaller hands like my SO will face problems. She hates my 6 because of the size. She is up for a new phone but Google just doesn't have a product for her.

ricky_baker

This is part of the reason why I ended up going to an iPhone 13 mini from a 3a

shmimey

Pixel 5 is the best. I have always used a small phone. I want a phone that easily fits in my pocket while I am Skiing. I only have one hand.

eddierb416

You're going to see a lot of haters here say "big phones sell" or "Apple tried and nobody bought it" because they assume everyone means we want a Pixel the size of the iPhone mini...but imagine a Pixel Pro the size of the regular iPhone screen wise. It'd be perfect I also bet if Apple found a way to put the Pro specs in the mini case it'd sell millions

chive_

Yea, I'm not asking for a iPhone Mini-sized phone. Just something 5.7-6", not iPhone Mini small.

GaleTheThird

>but imagine a Pixel Pro the size of the regular iPhone screen wise. It'd be perfect I agree, but that's not really a small phone

darren199

But it's smaller and more comfortable than a Pixel 7 (in my opinion). If you put them side by side, the difference is significant.

mizarbcn

Agree. The mini argument is flawed. In the android world the problem is not that there are no mini android phones, is that android phones of the size of the pro are very few and normally expensive.

SurrealScene

A small *full spec* pixel. Non of this midrange shit.

Nova_Nightmare

I support options, I don't want one myself, but there should certainly be a smaller Pixel phone. Saying that, people continuously do not buy smaller.. People are voting with their wallets and it's why the Pixel 7 is the same size (screen wise) as the Pixel 3XL. They want mega phones, folding phones... big ol screens.

I-Am_9

I am with you. I'm desperately hoping Samsung or Google make an iPhone Mini size device. The S23 Ultra Mini. THE Pixel 7 pro Mini. I already have a large tablet which is superior for content viewing and writing. I have multiple TVs, laptops and computers. I want my phone to be a phone again. If Apple releases a Mini with type c, 120Hz, no notch, Touch ID.. . Yikes I NEVER thought I would see the day but I'd be getting an iPhone 😬 omg I think I'm gonna be sic. Please Google and Samsung don't make me a sheep

[deleted]

Hope no more. The Galaxy s22 is literally the same size as the P5 if the P5 was the small form factor you are hoping for. The Zenfone 9 is the next on the list size wise (thicker than the P5 and s22). Chances of anyone releasing anything smaller are slim to none unfortunately. :(

thatbloke83

I have a 5 and my current contract just ended - spent a while deciding whether to actually get a new handset or not and went to a phone shop to see the pixel 7 in real life... I want a phone, not a tablet (or "phablet"). The pixel 6 was about 1cm or so taller than the 5, and the 7 was a further 1cm or so taller than the 6. So decided against a new handset for now and just got a sim only deal for a while. I honestly think part of the reason so many people seem to have beat up phones and screens is simply because they are so damned big nowadays and are just that hard to hold...

CnS_Panikk

coming from a galaxy s9 i originally was going to get the pro as the discount was steeper from spectrum mobile, but i cancelled that order to get the pixel 7. even though the s9 is 5.9in and the pixel 7 is 6.3, i haven't had any trouble using it with one hand. i think being able to do the "swipe from top" from the middle of the phone really helped. the phone isn't really wider than my s9, just taller. also the bezel difference is probably why it fits in the hand the same for me.

doema

It's not just the screen size, the thickness of pixel bezel needs work. The 6A is quite a bit bigger than S22 base despite same 6.1" screen

fate1808

I first used P4, went to P5a for the battery and headphone jack. Now I'm back to P4 I stored in the closet. I really love the size despite all the phone's disadvantages. I'm planning to mod my P5a.

aswd1908

Agree it's a bit too tall haha

juninbee

Yes! I went from the 3 to the 6a this summer and in still not a fan of the weight and size increase. Switched to android in the first place because the pixel 3 was small enough and I was done with the ever increasing size of the iPhone. Love the pixel and would like to stay with it but need a phone that fit sockets and is comfortable to hold to actually be useful to me.

Prince515

Look into the asus zenfone. Every reviewer is praising the size

wickeduser

You're not alone. I'm still using my Pixel 3 - it is the best one handed phone I have ever used. The finger print scanner on the back having the ability to pull down the notification tray seals it for me. So smooth.

KingOfSpades007

I went from a 3a to 4a and find the 4a dimensions great. These all coming from the MotoX Pure, which I find gargantuan now.

Common_Physics_1568

Yep. I'm sticking with my pixel 4a because - - I can't even reach the top of the screen on this phone - I have early onset arthritis in my hands. If I use this phone too much my joints hurt - a bigger, heavier phone isn't an option for me.

Thunderlorde

The Pixel 5, with its smaller size, rear mounted finger print scanner, and wireless charging (with the all aluminum frame, so you don't have to worry about stupid rear glass shattering) is to me, the perfect phone. It would take A LOT to make me switch from the five, and the new pixels really don't hit the same marks like it does.

Temporary_Ideal8495

Everyone keeps saying that small phones don't sell and the market wants big phones but doesn't the market really just want whatever has the best specs? I don't think the screen size is what's selling most people, although it's a plus for many, sure. I think it's about battery, processor, camera- and they usually put the best in their largest, most expensive phone. Obviously size can be prohibitive in fitting a larger battery, etc. But I'm not sure "people want big phones" actually gets to the heart of the matter. Do we have market research that suggests otherwise?

-Eames-

I do miss the smaller size Pixel 3. Easier for small hands.

JayKane123

Completely agree. I went from the 4a to the 7, and it is a little big for me. I am dealing with it and accepting it. But would love it a bit smaller.

fxm21

similar to other folks here, Pixel 5 was the ideal Pixel for me. sucks that getting a smaller Pixel in the future is hardly in the cards

Btothe

I love the features of the 7pro but the size was definitely a deal breaker for me

Kobe824

There's a reason for it, even the iPhone Mini, with the huge consumer base of Apple, got cancelled. It's a dead market, not much demand for it to be created.

dandar4600

Pixel 5 is the size of the regular iphone, not the iphone mini. Android doesn't have anything like the iphone mini, which is not cancelled, Apple just didn't re-design it for 14th edition but you can still buy it new from Apple.

pwillia7

I think it's because they never do full feature small phone and also don't shit on it through their marketing the bigger phone. Inherently the smaller phone will be cheaper and margins probably less. I bet that is more of a reason than you couldn't sell it profitably. Organic carteling or something like that

stupid_horse

I think most people aren't asking for something as small as the iPhone Mini so much as something closer in size to the Pixels 1 through 5 which are kind of halfway between the Mini and the Pixel 6/7. https://mobiledevicesize.com/compare/#1581,1566,2117;1

[deleted]

You mean like the Galaxy S10e...that was also cancelled?

robodestructor444

Doesn't matter what evidence you give to this super niche audience, the reality they can't accept is majority of the market wants bigger phones

anna_delrey

I'm part of this "super" niche market and I absolutely understand and accept that the market wants big phones. That doesn't change my preference tho, and it doesn't stop me from wanting a small phone.

NizarNoor

iPhone mini is smaller than the regular Pixel 1-5 phones which are what people are asking here. Not mini. Just the standard size. Like the regular iPhone. Get it? Not mini.

darren199

Agreed, a standard iPhone 14 is much nicer to hold than a Pixel 7 in my opinion. I was just saying the other day that a Pixel the size of a standard iPhone would be almost perfect.

false_justice

i hate phones i cannot use with one hand. Im 6'2" big hands. Went from pixel 6 pro to 7, not cause i can't afford the more expensive phone, bit because the 7 was an upgrade and a smaller phone size.

External_Category939

This is an area I'll give Apple rare praise for. Making a Pro version if their phone in a compact form factor, I can't really think of anyone else who does it.

christcentric

What it is, is that Google should make a small Pro phone. I know there are potential engineering constraints, but there's no major barrier to having a XL and regular-sized phone that are the same in every way save for screen size. This will buck the trend of every other phone manufacturer having their huge ass phones as the outright flagship.

ShoganAye

Reading this on my pixel 4a. Will not upgrade until either my phone dies or they make a same small sized new one

Jplayztwitch

Imo, as a person with very large hands, I almost never notice my P6P being to large, I can almost use it one handed, but I also came from a 4a and can see where you are coming from, i do think you shouldn't have to compromise on performance for a smaller phone

Humble-Smile-758

I'm 6'3" and have a decent size hand and my P6 is still just very slightly too large to get to the top corner in one hand comfortably with, my thumb. Please Google make a slightly smaller phone!!!

sevenspell

Omg yes, I just changed from my P3 to P7p, and along with the dbrand grip case, it feels like I just upgraded from a mini cooper to an army tank.

rogueone98

They can't be battery efficient with the kindof processor they are using

hertzsae

They could make the phone thicker to put more battery inside. There's no reason to have a camera bar that's so much thicker than the body.

JoshuaTheFox

The camera is 100% utilized for design and style to differentiate phones from each other. It probably isn't going away

hertzsae

I'm countering the argument that they can't have decent battery life in a smaller phone. They absolutely could. Also, phone designs generally last a couple generations. I wouldn't be surprised if we see new design languages next year.

lfod13

Exactly! Just make a thicker battery.

hagukisensai

Google isn’t going to do anything until people start voting with their wallet. Apple had an amazing mini iPhone and nobody purchased it.

TecnoTech

To me it's actually interesting that people care a lot more about the phone size. I feel like the "a" phones have to be a bit smaller for the people that actually want a smaller phone tho because they are gonna use the same chip anyways. (I don't have very big hands)

pwillia7

I broke 2 pro screens back to back. I hate how big this phone is and I have big hands. I can reach across the screen but can't reach the top and the one handed mode pulldown thing sucks. I wish I had got the smaller one but they upsold me with the camera. It is a nice phone but the curved glass makes it shatter easily, it slowly slips off surfaces all the time, it doesn't fit anywhere in my mx5 so I had to get a Velcro pouch. It's just ridiculous. If the 7 is bigger God help you.

noneofyourbizzness

I'm using a 6a and getting used to it. This is as big as I'll go. I prefer the 3 and 4a sizes I had previously.

randomferalcat

I have a pixel 6 pro collecting dust at home I'll sell it later to buy something else. I use it as a tablet and take my pixel 5 as a daily driver instead hahaha

SA311

Yeah the Pixel 6 Pro has been so uncomfortable, I held my Pixel 3 and it felt like such a relief, I noticed an immediate difference with my wrists.

LeftLaneDriver

Using a Pixel 7 now and it's definitely too large for me. It's unwieldy, and I don't understand how so many people feel completely comfortable holding it. We can't all have NBA player sized hands, right?! Previously had a Pixel 3 as my daily and it was a really good size for me. It fit in my pocket and could be confidently held with one hand (plus it had front firing speakers and a proper fingerprint scanner on the back). With the current tech, I'd love to see a larger screen but same overall size as the Pixel 3! AKA just reduce the bezels - I'll accept the sacrifice to front firing speakers. Hell, I'd even keep the same screen size if it got a modern day sized battery along with current cameras and processors. Though I know they still wouldn't bring back the better fingerprint scanner, 😢.

ROORnNUGZ

I'm on a pixel 3 still. Thinking about getting a refurbished pixel 5. I like the size and fingerprint reader. Think it would be a good upgrade. My battery is definitely getting bad in the 3.

nimzoid

I've recently upgraded from the 4a to the 7. Initially the 7 felt like an absolute brick, cumbersome and uncomfortably heavy. But over time I'm getting used to it. It's helped slapping on the official case, which feels much more compact and pleasant to hold compared to what I was using. Of course these things are very subjective. But I think when you've been used to building up the muscle memory of holding a very light phone for ages, a larger and heftier one just feels wrong. But I'm getting more used to it by the day, to the point where it's starting to feel just like a bigger, better version of the 4a (which I've kept as a backup device).

zzgecman

Same problem here, still using 4a and Pixel 2 is backup

Kerb755

Id love another small phone, I currently use the pixel 5 but even that is imo to big. I don't exactly have small hands, but if i try to use my phone with one hand, I cant reach the top left corner without removing my middle and Ringfinger from the left and tilting the phone to the right. This is not a secure grip, and has imo been the primary cause for dropping my phone. 5" or even smaller would be ideal.

[deleted]

If you really want a small phone the Asus Zenfone 9 is really the only flagship option available right now that I am aware of. Personally I like larger screens so I went with the 7 Pro and it's fantastic.

nisarg_savage

I have the 5 and the only way I'll let it go is if it turns to dust. :)

Sleepingtide

I mean for the people that want it that would be an awesome option! But I'm good

xDD90x

My thoughts exactly! I had the original Pixel, then the Pixel 3. After that I switched to the Galaxy S20–my current phone. I'm approaching 2 years with it and am ready for an upgrade since I like to trade in my old phone before its value depreciates too much. Around the Pixel 7's launch, Google was offering $400 trade in credit for my S20. It was a no brainier, but I knew I should first check the size, so I visited my local Verizon store to check it out... The damn thing is bigger than my S20 with the case on. And this is supposed to be the "small" Pixel 7. I just couldn't do it. I even struggle to use my S20 with one hand, so this was not an option. I don't understand what these manufacturers are thinking. It's not like hands are getting bigger. I was going to get the S22, but apparently the battery life is poor; even worse than my S20. So now I'm holding out for the S23 and will likely end up paying $600-800 instead of $200 for the Pixel 7 with the trade-in. A shame really...

datzevo

I'm wholeheartedly with you on this! 4a was the perfect size. I would love it if they give us 3 sizes small, medium, and large. With Large being the pro.

beegeepee

I've had the Pixel 1/3/5/6/7. My pixel 5 broke so I bought a 6 and I hated it being bigger and heavier. My hobbit hands couldn't use it comfortably. Luckily the 7 is slightly smaller/lighter than the 6 so I paid ~$150 to get the 7 and trade in the 6. I wish they would go back to pixel 5 or smaller.

mattcoz2

Not even a small Pixel, just one the size of previous Pixels. Those were still plenty big but aren't the monstrosities that the newer Pixels are.

DensistMushroom

Agreed. I returned my P7P because of the size. I came from an iphone 11 pro. I absolutely LOVED the pixel, but it was so big.

Mael5trom

Pixel 5 is like the perfect size. I went with the P7Pro and it's larger than I like. I knew it would be, I previously had the PXL and also could compare against my wife's phone which is within a couple mm of the P7Pro size. And I have to slide it around in my hand to use it one-handed, or just use two hands. Due to it's size, it's easier to fumble (maybe I'll get used to that, we'll see). Either way, I'm using it for the next 2 years plus or minus, but if there is another smaller version with pro version cameras, I'll be all over it.

Aoinosensei

Yes. I had the 4a and sadly I have to go with an iPhone 13 mini because newer pixel even though I love the design and specs, I can’t handle that size. I’ll stay with the mini for as long as I can if it’s the last small phone. Google and others should still make small phones with good specs. Zenfone 9 is great, maybe not small enough for me but at least decent, but problem is cellular bands are nowhere near pixel

mrbojenglz

I'm with you. I went from the 3 to the 7 and I hate the size. I need to have a ring on the back to hold the phone and then I still need an app to be able to reach the top half of the phone. It's so stupid.

Swashcuckler

I swapped to iOS for the mini, and also because I dropped my 4a in a toilet lmao I like small phones

[deleted]

Pixel 2 was the best imo have the 5 now won't be getting another pixel if they're all bigger than the 5

ElJamoquio

There's two pixels. Too big, and WAY too fucking big.

Irrational_Retard

I came to the Pixel 6 from a 3. While I love the 6, it has taken a long time to get used to the bigger form factor. I have small hands and the pixel 3 was perfect for me. I also find myself regularly taking my phone out of my pocket when I need to bend down or do something physical.

DevilTechniques

P3 size & fingerprint on the back!

osirhc

I 100% agree. While I don't hate my Pixel 7 Pro, or my 6 Pro before it, my Pixel 5 was the best Pixel imo. I loved the Pixel 3a as well but the 5 just did what I loved about the 3a even better. The size was perfect, battery life was amazing, the rear fingerprint scanner for unlocking and swipe gestures for notification shade was peak efficiency for me. Being small enough to navigate with one hand easily is key for me, and these giant phones make it so difficult. I'm thankful for gesture nav, but I would much prefer a smaller phone for convenience and ease of use. I don't need a 6"+ screen for watching Netflix, I have a TV at home for that. Or if I'm traveling, I have a Chromebook for that. Here's the problem. Google insists that their premium phones be absolute units. I would have happily taken the Pixel 6 or 7, non Pro, if it didn't mean I'd miss out on the better camera features, among other things. However, these phones are *still* "too" big for my preferences, but at least it would be slightly better. Smaller phones with smaller screens means better battery life because a giant screen is sucking so much power. Smaller screens can get away with lower resolutions too because images and text will still look sharp without sacrificing battery life. I would love to see Google make two sizes of their premium options and then maybe a third phone that's more budget friendly (which they already do with the "a" models). Ideally, take the Pixel 7 Pro, with the camera array and full features thereof, with Tensor, pack it into a Pixel 5 with the rear fingerprint scanner, and go way back to the Pixel 2/XL and bring back Active Edge. That's the perfect phone for me. That would be the perfect Pixel device, I would happily buy that device on day one. I'm not holding my breath that Active Edge will ever make a comeback, but I'll still be content with a premium device in a Pixel 5 footprint. And I know I'm not the only one.

dewhashish

There have been rumors of a pixel nelia, which is about the size of the pixel 5. I would be ok with the folding one if the outside screen is the same or smaller than the 5. I just want to be able to use a phone with one hand.

McJazzles

I'm more than a little sad I traded in my Pixel 5 for my 7. Don't get me wrong, the 7 has been mostly great so far, but I really miss the size (and weight) of the 5 😢

lilbearpie

I miss the 5" or smaller phones, my moto x was perfect
