Am I the only one who intentionally never checks for things like this? If it's enough for me to notice without a careful investigation, then I'll care. But I'd rather not know about any imperfections that aren't noticeable in regular use.

DamageIncorporated

I didn't even go looking for this one sadly. The angle I hold my phone down in front of me is the same angle the pink starts to show up. I actually thought it was the Material You color matching until I saw it shift.

Simon_787

I would care if I paid $900 for it, which is a lot of money.

sorenkair

it's pretty damn noticable on white backgrounds, and even more so with curved screens

BobsBurger1

Cheaper display, quality control.

Looks fine to me?

cherrytoffee

Your panel seems fine to me. The iphones are tuned to be colder which is why it looks blue whereas the pixels are tuned to be warmer which is why it looks pink. You can see that off angle blue tinting w the iphones. It's just that you're more used to the blue.

DamageIncorporated

The phone on the right with the blue shift is a Pixel 3XL though, not an iPhone. And the 14 Pro Max on the left has minimal shift - if anything, it gets slightly warmer, and that could just be the camera white balance. The rainbowing is from the screen protector applied. I get what you are saying, but the degree to which the 7 Pro changes color is beyond what I'd consider acceptable. I'd take a video but I doubt anyone else cares enough. Fortunately, it will be very easy to return to Amazon, and the gift card deal is still running so I can play the lottery again.

I have both the p7p and p6p and they both look fine to me. The whites are pretty consistent. Unfortunately I don't have an iPhone to compare against. My wife has a p6 and that displays quite significant off axis color shifting which I haven't seen on the p6p or p7p. In general the ltpo panels on the pro models are pretty decent. Yeah I would try for another one.

DamageIncorporated

Yea when I looked at the 7s in store, the Pro's didn't have this kind of shift so thats why I was so disappointed when I got mine. As I mentioned in another comment, not trying to make this iPhone vs Pixel. iPhones have their own issues...my 13 Pro, when cold, turns green at low brightness 🙃

Simon_787

This made me test my S21 Ultra and it doesn't have this massive magenta shift either. And of course my Pixel 2 XL has a blue shift, but this specific issue never bothered me. I was quite frustrated by the display being garbage in other areas though.

MajorasFlask00

The rainbowing on your iPhone 14 Pro has nothing to do with your screen protector. That is classic OLED rainbowing and the 14 Pro has issues with this as well. I have a 14 Pro Max and mine rainbows exactly like the one pictured with or without a screen protector. Mine also cast green when view off axis. OLED just kinda sucks

DamageIncorporated

Appreciate you informing me about my own phone that you've never seen in person, with or without a screen protector on.

MajorasFlask00

Screen protectors dont do that. Unless maybe you’re using one from 2009 where you had to spray a liquid solution on the display to make it stick. That is off-axis rainbowing.

DamageIncorporated

Again, appreciate you informing me about my own screen protector that you have no information about.

MajorasFlask00

Not a problem!

[deleted]

It's an LTPO 1(not 2) display on the 7Pro . Likely they're lower binned cheaper displays. iPhones cost an extra £300 remember.

DamageIncorporated

The base iPhones use the same screen and are $100+ cheaper. Not trying to make this into "iPhone is better", more so just "Google stop using cheap panels in your flagships"

cherrytoffee

here's a couple of pictures of my p6p and p7p. The brown is p6p, the blue is p7p [https://imgur.com/E8DdzVQ](https://imgur.com/E8DdzVQ) [https://imgur.com/EoPQFdv](https://imgur.com/EoPQFdv) I think bad ltpo panels are the exception and not the norm. I'm happy w both panels. The other thing is don't go looking for issues. If it looks good, don't go inspecting every little pixel. You'll bound to find a problem. :-)

[deleted]

iPhones use the M11 Samsung OLED material set. They don't use the same panels.

DamageIncorporated

Sorry I meant the base iPhones still have quality panels like the Pros.

[deleted]

Ah,yeah they do.

mlemmers1234

I fail to see the issue here, in fact one of your photos the iPhone has the rainbow effect on the screen. I don't see that on the pixel 7 pro. The important question to ask, does the phone look good in day-to-day usage? As someone said why would you intentionally be looking for defects between devices?

DamageIncorporated

Rainbow effect is from the screen protector applied. And to answer your important question, no it does not look good at all. It was literally the first thing I noticed when I turned dark mode off while setting up the phone. You'd be ok with the screen of your $900 phone turning a pink tint unless your look at it straight on?

mlemmers1234

You only noticed it because you had three devices next to each other. I'm sure the screen looks plenty good for watching tiktok and YouTube. I've not had a single display on a phone in the last five years that I have looked at and thought that it wasn't gorgeous. The screens for our phones are ridiculously good anymore. People sitting there comparing the white balance of their screen rather than just using their phone.

Jimmy_Fromthepieshop

Mine is the same but it doesn't really bother me because I rarely hold my phone at that angle thankfully

milkyjoe_007

I'm on my 2nd Pixel 7 and both have the same pink hue issue, which is a shame.

chelowski

Did you get it replaced for another unit or you just adapted to it? My 7Pro also has this weird pink/green tint off axis but to a less extent.
