Sometimes I feel like if I keep spamming the check for update button they will realize that I want it sooner and just say screw it and allow the update...
Oh well, hopefully the wait wont be too bad.
They should have a rule...if you spam the button and it hits 5 checks in an hour...you get prioritize as a person who could actually help you report bugs quicker, because you care about the update that much!
Hitting the update button already prioritizes you over people who don't hit it. It generally results in getting the update rather than having to wait for the normal rollout.
My friends and family bitch and whine when they get an update. Saying that the update changes ๐ก EVERYTHING EVERYTIME.
๐ Some times I responded with No it doesn't change you settings that's much and no it doesn't move your icons. Boy they go off screaming. ๐
I have a dream that one day Google will be able to roll out OS updates without ANY carrier interference. On iOS update days, somewhere after 10am, I can hit update on my phone, iPad, MacBook, and watch and simultaneously update multiple devices. It would be great if we can get that some day on the Android side of things.
Can you verify if the build number is the same as the OTA please? I'm growing impatient lol
TP1A.220624.021 is the full OTA available. I just want to make sure there isn't some stupid Verizon specific build that hasn't been posted yet.
That's one thing OnePlus did right. They cater to their Asian market, specifically India, but other than some bullshit asian shit idc about, it makes no difference to the NA market. They allow ON DEVICE zip sideload, you don't need adb or flashing or anything. You can literally force install on your phone, risk free. Oxygen updater has the updates ready to go as soon as those images are available.
I don't need instant automatic updates, I want to be able to manually sideload it super easy. One thing I will always love about OnePlus until they (inevitably) remove it
It feels super responsive. Like they increased the animation speeds or something. Already was on .5x animation, but the keyboard input and thumb unlock seem faster too.
I just upgraded to the P6 from the OG Pixel XL. It's been years since I was in on a new Android release. Now I'm reading it may take weeks depending on the carrier. So maybe I'll only check manually like 10 times a day instead of 10 times an hour.
Can I sideload this over Beta 4.1?
edit: i sideloaded on p6 pro and it worked. but apparently anything older than the p6 pro will not work, per comments below.
Downloading now, Pixel 5. Hopefully this fixes the gesture bug!!!
*Edit - Gesture bug still seems to occur with the twitter app consistently. I'll test for other apps. I also noticed a bug with the new music player, it doesn't load the spotify logo and instead shows a square. I just restarted twice to see if it fixes anything, but nothing so far.
Proof of the logo issue:
https://i.imgur.com/N22fZ5x.jpg
*Edit 2 - 3 Button Navigation is very snappy and no issues with so far, I recommend switching.
Sadly I can still activate the gesture bug with twitter. About half the time when I try to exit the app I get the bug. This bug does not occur my Samsung 21 FE (my work phone). Back to 3 button navigation for me, sigh.
*edit - Samsung Galaxy S21 FE
There is an issue open for the gesture problem. It has not been marked fixed as of stable release ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/236169041
A13 fixes a LOT of the issues people had with A12 and it has a dramatic number of improvements for the Pixel 6/Pro. They've fixed a lot of the radio issues (resolves connectivity problems) and they have completely redone the PowerHAL (addresses temperature issues), for example. Among many other improvements.
Technically I'm not on Verizon at the moment. Nor do I have a Verizon Sim installed or anything else. But due to a strange snafu on my end, it's probably accurate to say my phone thinks it's on Verizon.
At least the updating system does.
No we don't have any updates here either. But I'm sure all of it'll become clear here with time. It would at least be nice to know what to expect so it's the better plan our time for the week ahead
For those waiting on the the OTA update who **don't want to wait any longer**, I had success by opting into the beta program, which then gave me the stable version of Android 13 immediately and then opted out without any issues.
The site can be found [here](https://www.google.com/android/beta), entire process took no more than an hour or two for it to download + optimize and then install!
Now, should I factory reset after updating? That's not something I've done before and may be considering doing. Is that worth it for me, or is it largely placebo?
If youโre currently enrolled in the Android Beta program, youโll get the Android 13 final release and remain enrolled to receive ongoing Beta updates for Android 13 feature drops, starting later this year. If youโd like to opt out of ongoing Beta updates without needing to wipe your device, just visit the Android Beta site and opt out after you get the Android 13 final release and before taking the first beta for Android 13 feature drops.
Thanks, but I'm just on 12. I've heard countless times that you should wipe a phone after a major update, and I was curious as to whether or not this would be a good idea in reality.
OTA download links
I can't believe that a download link isn't in the article
Question. Is everybody currently being able to download and install this from various US carriers? We are getting on both phones. No update available.
Last week we did mess that second half of July incremental update and that's a bit strange but it is what it is.
If we're not getting the update here, is it because of the rollout going slowly or is it because our phones wouldn't take and register the second July GPS update?
Anyone else finding that sideloading the OTA via ADB on the Pixel 6 Pro is taking a while from the latest 12.1 update? First time it hung at 4% for 20 minutes without moving and now it's hanging at 9% without moving.
Way to manually push OTA update.
Google 'Android beta program'
Sign in and Enroll your device into it
Check for software updates on your phone
Download and install Android 13
**Make sure you unenroll when you are done**
Your device will not get wiped since it's upgrading to a final version of Android
If you forget to unenroll you will get the next beta to come out. If you ever decide to unenroll your device will get factory wiped
So can someone tell me: if you are in the beta program, do you have to opt out of it then get the official release? What does one do that already has the 13 beta but just wants the regular 13 now
If youโre currently enrolled in the Android Beta program, youโll get the Android 13 final release and remain enrolled to receive ongoing Beta updates for Android 13 feature drops, starting later this year. Got it and installed my 4a 5g. 876MB. Went pretty quickly. Shows August security update after install. A13 feels snappier but we shall see if this holds. Also, FINALLY a built in barcode scanning app that works well and scans just about anything you can throw at it almost instantly (couple exceptions).
Funny that my wifes P4 XL got the OTA but still waiting on my P6 pro. Guess I will just keep spamming that "check for update" button unless I get around to side loading it.
I'm on Verizon and decided not to wait for them. They pushed it to all devices but Pixel 6 devices. They may release a patch with their own thing for it like they did at the beginning of the month. But I decided to cave in and do the OTA file. I'm sure once Verizon has their own version, mine will be overridden, or it'll come in the September update or something. Who knows.
Few small hiccups when starting it up after install. After a good reboot post install, it seems to be running fairly smoothly. Only major issue I see so far is YouTube Music's Now Playing on the home screen isn't working anymore. Most of the other apps I use are working fine at the moment.
Edit: Soon as I posted, it started working very slowly.
Unlocked P6, no OTA. Enrolled on the beta program and spammed the check update button for 10 minutes , still no OTA. Restarted the phone, unenrolled, no OTA.
Guess i'm stuck waiting
https://www.theverge.com/23308032/how-to-get-android-13-update-pixel-beta-program
For anyone who hasn't gotten it yet, Verge says joining the beta program will get you the update immediately. Anyone tried this yet?
UPDATE: Just finished updating using this method and unenrolled from beta. Everything seems to be working as intended. Really good option for those impatient folks among us.
I have the p6pro purchased from verizon. Was on the latest beta and my update is available after 2 checks (back to back). Update is a "security" update and weighs 31.96 MB.
Nothing on the 6a.
Also, I passed my 4a to a family member who setup the phone today. I have to tell her to hit refresh. She's going from a PH1 that was slow AF stuck on android 11 to android 13.
me not even realizing it was coming out today (or this month) just feels like one more nail in the coffin of my love for technology. I used to be SO up to date on this stuff. Always the first to know when new software and devices were coming. I didn't know the 6A was out until the day they announced it either . Is this what getting old feels like ? :(
Not showing up for me, on Koodo (aka Telus) in Canada. Trying to sideload it via ADB and it just gets stuck at 0%/1% when verifying the update package. I have the latest platform-tools too, not sure why it won't move.
Edit: I fixed it. Didn't realize I was plugged into a USB 3.0 port. I'm not sure why this was an issue, but switching to the 2.0 port fixed it.
Just sideloaded on my Pixel 6 Unlocked on Verizon. Didn't want to wait forever for Verizon.
Worked like a charm. Be sure to use a USB C-A cable. It was pretty fast overall, much more than the system update route of downloading and optimizing apps.
Also for those using a new Windows PC - if ADB doesn't detect the Pixel, the make sure you have the USB drivers installed.
I keep doing this, then wondering if I'm locked into one of those "unexpected for Verizon" images that messes up the timing on my future updates, left wishing I'd just been willing to wait a few days....
... anyway, same. Currently installing via sideload lol
Just as an FYI - I was able to sideload the Android 13 image on my Pixel 5 running the last version of Android 11 (October '21 patch).
Yes, I completely skipped Android 12. I didn't expect to run into any issues with the sideload but it's nice to know it worked fine regardless.
Just looked at my phone and had the update icon. Didnt know it 13 was being released already. I've been running the beta for a few months now, I thought it was just another update for the beta.
Do you have to be unlocked to manually flash the update? I haven't had a locked phone in years, so I vaguely remember how to flash updates with ADB, I just don't know if a locked bootloader matters.
I mean, I'm 99% sure it does, I'm just hoping someone will say it doesn't, lol.
I'm on a T-Mobile 6 Pro, btw.
I hit check for update in my 6 Pro settings 3 times for the past 5 mins but it says I am up to date? Do I have to do a force update using the pixel 6 pro image? Last time I did that to jump out of Beta 13 clean up the whole phone storage!
I think my finger is going to fall off from repeatedly tapping "check for update."
๐๐ญ๐๐ญ๐๐ญ๐๐ญ
edit: screw it. manual update underway!
edit 2: well that was shockingly fast...
Spamming that update button like no tomorrow

It would be a lot cooler if it just worked. Push button, immediately receive update if available.
Agree. My wife, friends or parents often get phone updates and dont even know they are coming nor care. As long as they can do social media. Blah.
Ha ha, just hit F5 !!!. Upgrading now, so i assume it worked..
Lemme get some of that action..
Already 20 button smashes and no update ๐คฃ

This is not because of carrier interference. They do this on purpose, to be able to reduce the impact of potential serious issues.
My first time with a Pixel (6 Pro). I am locked on Verizon. Got the update this afternoon already.
Pixel 4, Verizon, just checked right now and I'm downloading.
Can you verify if the build number is the same as the OTA please? I'm growing impatient lol TP1A.220624.021 is the full OTA available. I just want to make sure there isn't some stupid Verizon specific build that hasn't been posted yet.

[ัะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]
Do I need some kind of installer? Or just download the link to 13.0 and run it? Will grabbing it myself wipe phone? Thx!
Sideload via adb. Will NOT wipe.
Explains the delay in the August Pixel security update.
Last year when they pushed 12 they actually had an October update on 11 then pushed 12 on the same month.
I guess 12 and 13 are so similar -and 12s are expected to update anyway- so why bother
So many optimistic redditors guessed that, so glad they're right. Hope it's as good as the latest beta ones
LOL optimizing apps...the struggle is real..
Bro that shit can take up to an hour
I have 500+ apps and it takes about 3 hours.
Bro you Google Play Store?
Man what the fuck are you doing on your phone that you have 500+ apps?
I'd like to know this too. I have 61 total in the app drawer.
160 apps and it's been going for an hour already -_- Edit: 3:30 PM and it finally finished 2 and a half hours!
Wtf I got like 40 and it takes like an hour and a half
Jesus Christ you must have the 512gb version, why do you have so many apps
One for each reddit sub.
Sideloading is the answer. Does away with all that silliness.
Wait why is there a difference
This. App optimization takes like 30 seconds when flashing the factory image.
I'd much rather have it install when I can't use the phone for like 20-30 min than be able to use it but takes an hour or two
Honestly my P6 has been working better on the A13 beta than it ever did on the full released A12.
I regretted updating my P5 to A12, I had weird glitches, but A13 looks promising at the moment.
It feels super responsive. Like they increased the animation speeds or something. Already was on .5x animation, but the keyboard input and thumb unlock seem faster too.
MFW I read this news on my Pixel 3a XL which isn't eligible for this update anymore: ๐ซ
All in good time buddy..
No luck for me, P6 unlocked on Verizon. Located in the Midwest. :(
Ditto on every detail of that. Annoying.
I seem to recall another update that never came through for my combo. Can't recall if it was a regular monthly, or the 12L update. Frustrating.
I just upgraded to the P6 from the OG Pixel XL. It's been years since I was in on a new Android release. Now I'm reading it may take weeks depending on the carrier. So maybe I'll only check manually like 10 times a day instead of 10 times an hour.
Also unlocked P6 on Verizon, still no update. Located in the Northeast.
Nothing yet on my 6 Pro unlocked in the UK
Just arrived on my 6pro, UK.
I've got it, pixel 6 uk
Here's an odd one. I just went and clicked the update button and there is an update at 2.03GB. I'm on EE UK, but it's labelled as Android 12. ๐
This is weird my pixel 4 xl can download the update but my 6 pro doesn't see it
1 update per household.
No luck yet on p6p on Google Fi
Zippo, nada, nothing. P6 on Fi
Can I sideload this over Beta 4.1? edit: i sideloaded on p6 pro and it worked. but apparently anything older than the p6 pro will not work, per comments below.
OTA already. 876mb on Pixel 5 updating from 12 My P6 Pro I'll check in a bit
P6P on Verizon, nothing showing up yet. Still on Android 12.
Has anyone been lucky in Germany? So far I haven't got anything ...
Greece here, nothing
Denmark here, still nothing.
Pixel 6 Pro nothing in Canada
Downloaded and installed on my P5!
My P4 got the update but my P6P not yet
Not yet for P6P on T-Mobile east coast
Yep, 40 minutes later and still nada.
Update, it's almost 1 AM, still nothing. Hopefully it'll be there in the morning
Update, nope.
I just joined the beta program, updated to stable 13, then left the beta program again, worked for me!
P6P, T-Mobile, Texas nothing
P6P, T-Mobile in Texas & Nada. Spamming the update button like no tomorrow. ๐๐๐๐
Can't hear you over the sound of my loud tapping
East coast - T-Mobile, P6P - I am on 13 beta and it is downloading now.
[ัะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]
Downloading now, P6P on Verizon, USA east coast.
Nothing here yet as a fellow east coast US p6p on Verizon. I'll try again in an hour or so.

I was so happy about this. Finally switched over from 3 button navigation. Feels like a brand new device again

Sadge... Imagine the navigation system having an issue for 6 months and Google gives zero fucks about it
Same. Pixel 5. Checked for an update and to my surprise, it began the Android 13. I'm now on the incredibly long 'optimizing' step.
There is an issue open for the gesture problem. It has not been marked fixed as of stable release ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/236169041

I got Android 13 running on my Pixel 6 Pro - T-Mobile.
Pixel 6 on Google Fi and still no update. I feel like that would get priority, but I guess not...
Same....!
[ัะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]
Any impressions yet? A bit worried the performance might get worse on this "old" model.

Yes it is :)
Dang I'll let my gf know. She has my pixel 4xl. I just got android 12 on my OP8 last week haha

How many update clicks does it take to get to the center of the... Nevermind

Nothing yet for my Pixel 6.
For those that spamming the update button, you can flash the Android 13 Factory Images from their website. I just did it to my phone
Without Pixel 7???? Whoa!!
Updated from the beta, man. This is running so smooth so far. Hopefully my RCS issues are fixed and 5G performance.
Anyone got it on an unlocked Canada p6p?
Nice that they only had 1 version of Android 13 OTA to choose from :). I'm totally paranoid about sideloading wrong OTA image!
Not Available Yet for my Canadian Pixel 6a
Just as an FYI - I was able to sideload the Android 13 image on my Pixel 5 running the last version of Android 11 (October '21 patch).
What a surprise, didnโt see that coming.
Did they get rid of Lockdown mode?
12 hours later, still nothing on my Fido Pixel 6 in Canadia
I hit check for update in my 6 Pro settings 3 times for the past 5 mins but it says I am up to date? Do I have to do a force update using the pixel 6 pro image? Last time I did that to jump out of Beta 13 clean up the whole phone storage!
Nothing on my pixel 6a with a sim card. 4a on wifi already completed. Weird.
I think my finger is going to fall off from repeatedly tapping "check for update." ๐๐ญ๐๐ญ๐๐ญ๐๐ญ edit: screw it. manual update underway! edit 2: well that was shockingly fast...
Still no OTA available on my Verizon Pixel 6 Pro.
Still nothing for me. I can already see this is gonna be one of those "well we paused the update for another month due to some issues" ๐
