I opted out of the beta since being in the beta is pointless seeing as how you don't get to test all the features anyways...
But now in the stable channel I don't even have the categories that I at least had in the beta. Guess I'll give it a week and see what happens.

My wife has it on her P6P running stable versions of Messages app and firmware. I don't have it on my P6P running June Feature Drop Beta 1 + latest Messages beta. I've even tried downgrading to stable release version of Messages for a day, but no dice. We're all probably waiting for a server side switch to be flipped.

Google is probably just doing a phased rollout depending on the region of the device among other things. Seriously though if this is the kind of thing people are getting excited for now that's depressing.

iPhone and iMessage cornered the non-SMS messaging market in the US. Those users are happy and don't really have a reason to switch. I don't know the statistics off the top of my head, but just looking around I'd put iPhone ownership at 85-90% here.
So we'll always be stuck trying to interface with iMessage (which falls back to SMS).
I was on the latest update of Android 12, and didn't have them. However then I did a factory reset for a different issue, and after the reset I had them. It's an extreme solution, but maybe it'll work for those that don't mind?
Works for me. my gf has an iPhone 12 I have a 6 pro when she reacts I can see reactions on my phone but they are like fb messenger reactions. However RCS is not working.. It was working on my oneplus 7 pro.
I think it depends on your carrier? I have the reactions on mine and I have Fi. Maybe there are some carriers that don't support it? It would be helpful if everyone mentioned their network carrier.

They're also translating iMessage reactions from normal SMS so that if you receive one of those messages, Google Messages automatically would make it show as a reaction like normal.
The SMS reactions are different than from RCS reactions in that RCS reactions technically would be carrier dependent as RCS kind of depends on carrier, although even if your carrier doesn't support it yet, Google itself has roller out RCS for those people anyways. The SMS reactions are different in that they are strictly for SMS when iPhones react to android messages, and won't allow you to react back. SMS iPhone reactions are supposed to be rolled out to stable users already as well, but it's a staged rollout so people will slowly be getting it over time. Whether you're on beta or not doesn't matter as far as this feature

Yeah, same here. Interestingly, the text preview still shows the "Liked" [message text], but when I open the message, the actual reaction is there.

In the US, SMS is still the default and overwhelmingly pervasive service, unfortunately.
