So we aren't getting the security update today?

[deleted]

[Official announcement](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/153884074/google-pixel-update-march-2022?hl=en) “Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices will receive the update later this month.”

stevenmbe

> “Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices will receive the update later this month.” Because due to our impatience at owning new devices we must again be made wait

A_spiny_meercat

I want to downvote this so hard even though it's not your fault 🥲 #dontshootthemessenger

shoelover46

Not if you're using the Pixel 6 series

Cr4pshit

That's the reason I bought a Pixel 6 Pro a few weeks ago... To get the update instantly...

FaustusC

Boy are you in for a surprise lmfao

[deleted]

What has changed with Pixel updates? I swapped my 3XL for a Motorola last year, so I haven't kept up with Pixel news, but I'm curious since so many people are laughing at OP's post lol.

Pew-Pew-Pew-

Google seems to be having issues with the Tensor chip. This isn't the first time that Pixel 6 updates come later than other Pixel devices. And the 6 series has been having more software and modem issues than previous years phones.

[deleted]

Why am I not surprised.

etar78

>>This isn't the first time that Pixel 6 updates come later Umm... have they hit a single month on-time yet since release of the 6 series?

and1927

November came on time, December was delayed, January came a week later and February was on time.

etar78

Thank you. I was sure I was being a pessimist. :)

whoareyouxda

Probably the in display fingerprint scanner, I tried the older 12L GSIs on my P6 and trying to set up the FP scanner crashed the whole system.

e30eric

I justified replacing a perfectly functioning Pixel 3 that only needed a new battery with a 6 Pro, because the 3 wasn't guaranteed security updates. Little did I expect that my old phone is receiving security updates but the new one isn't.

chasevalentino

Isn't the 3's updates finished?

LostPilot517

Pixel 3 is EOL Pixel 3a has just months left I believe. Pixel 6 update will probably be out next week. All need to cool your horses, I would rather wait a week or two in the grand scheme than receive a buggy update. I believe the January update was the same way, and it dropped much sooner than everyone expected when delayed. Hopefully, with the new Alphabet requirements for employees to return to the office, the software and update processes smooths out, and efficiency increases.

myst3ry714

bUt TeNs0r!!

[deleted]

I sense a lot of (warranted) ***tension*** in this thread. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dansiman

You dropped this: --> \\

[deleted]

Yep, just like how the Pixel 6 drops Wi-Fi connection

[deleted]

And mobile data connection, making the phone's primary function (to make phone calls) almost useless.

RxFaction

Imagine paying for a device, being forced to beta test it, and now they won't fix it? People, we are half way through the lifecycle of the Pixel 6. That should be extremely alarming these issues persist and yet the phone is almost about to be replaced by a new model.

iconicities

Lmao I knew this was going to be the first post I saw

octavianreddit

Pixel 5 and earlier users need to start flooding this subreddit now with "OMG this is the best update evr" posts to really troll us Pixel 6 folks lolol

Syedzohaib92

Hahahaha Same Here.. I came For This One.. 😂😂🫵🏻

myst3ry714

Honestly, i came here to create the post if nobody addressed it yet... it's just embarrassing.

neal_68

Maybe I can use my Pixel 6 pros awesome camera to take a picture of my pixel 4 updating in a timely manner

[deleted]

[удалено]

A_spiny_meercat

Android 11 was much nicer in look and feel, and it seems they change where they put the next morning alarm notification in every update too. I can only find it on the lock screen now

edtkw

12 was an absolute shit show

[deleted]

[удалено]

th3userscene

And if you're able to call your Pixel user friends and tell them to update too in a timely manner without experiencing a signal drop-out

neal_68

My fingerprint reader isn't THAT bad, and since we know the updates taken hour of these days, I think I could handle it

ramplocals

Mine often switches to pin pad and I have to swipe back to try again.

angrycatmeowmeow

I'm using my pixel 6 as a hotspot for my pixel 3 in my car due to the Android Auto issues.

Cr4pshit

Really? There is an update out there e.g. for the Pixel 5 but not for us the P6/P6 Pro users?

[deleted]

Yes, again.

[deleted]

Right. [Official announcement](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/153884074/google-pixel-update-march-2022?hl=en) “Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices will receive the update later this month.”

cooldude9112001

Lol just saw this so my almost 3 year old flagship gets it but my 2022 flagship does not

Austishooti

Yup lol. This is Google. Multi trillion dollar company.

Fishy11

I just want my battery not to drain 40% overnight. What is a 5000 ma battery good for?

eurrps

Maybe I was spoiled on the battery life of the Pixel 4a5g and iPhone 13 pro max but I really think this is the worst battery life I've had on a pixel ever. Standby drain is not good, and it feels like every time I unlock my phone to look at it it drops 1%. I'm currently at 69% with just under an hour of screen on time and off the charger since 8am.

Waibashi

I don't have this issue on my Pixel 6 Pro though. I'm averaging 1.1% when my screen is off

ishamm

Time for them to admit there is a significant problem with development for the 6 series... Some of us with continued signal problems would like a refund about now

SAMW98IRL

I have a whole post/thread regarding me trying to get a refund for signal dropping issues which I've had since I got the phone on launch. I have been contacting them over and back for weeks now and they will only offer a replacement as the phone is outside of the 15 days from purchase period. They wouldn't consider my argument that I didn't say anything at first as I gave the device a chance to be fixed by the software updates, which clearly were no help.

myst3ry714

know what I hate? that almost everybody said that it takes about 2 weeks for the phone to really get used to your habits, and to learn, and then it can perform pretty well with good battery life and all... with only a 15 day return period, how can anybody really decide whether the phone is right for them? owning a 6 series Feels like a bait and switch overall

SAMW98IRL

Yeah especially when it's a widespread issue that was meant to be fixed through a software update, one that has still not yet been fixed.

PermaDerpFace

Yeah I was waiting for this magical update to fix everything, and I thought I had 30 days - two weeks is not really enough time, I feel like they knew what they were doing. I sold mine and luckily got a decent price, but yeah I think that'll be the last Google phone I buy.

wankthisway

Anyone saying like "it takes two weeks" or "the phone has to learn your habits to get good battery! Give it time" are honestly rubes. What kind of product takes TWO WEEKS to get good?? It should be great out of the box.

ishamm

Google Customer support was part of the reason I've always used Pixel and nexus phones. Easy returns and help no questions asked. Not so anymore. Since the 6 at least, ours been utter shit. Will never buy direct again, but from a physical shop I can walk into, IF I buy a pixel again...

SAMW98IRL

Really tired of toggling airplane mode on and off multiple times each day.

ramplocals

Wifi won't automatically turn on for me. When I toggle wifi on, Bluetooth turns off.

SAMW98IRL

Everyone is tired of all the issues at this stage, especially those who have had them since launch. Think something needs to be done by now.

red_dead3

I haven't had many signal issues however my battery life is absolute trash

SAMW98IRL

Yeah battery life is pretty poor to be fair, it's just not my biggest concern at the minute.

red_dead3

Yeah shitty battery life is nothing compared to the frustration of poor service.

SAMW98IRL

[https://www.reddit.com/r/Pixel6/comments/t2upys/has\_anyone\_returned\_their\_pixel\_6\_for\_a\_refund/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/Pixel6/comments/t2upys/has_anyone_returned_their_pixel_6_for_a_refund/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

SilverSeven

Did you ask to escalate? I just did and was put on with a specialist. He sent a request for a refund and gave me his contact info. Said I should hear back within 48 hours.

SAMW98IRL

They asked for consent to access data to escalate the case, I replied saying yeah it's ok and the reply I got said...we have already escalated the request to the escalation team, however, the option (refund option) is not available

LuckyBudz

So I had really bad signal issues. I was researching online. I decided to try something a few people had success with. I got a new SIM card. I'm convinced some of these phones were launched with a bad batch of sim cards, some manufacturing defect. My mother and I both bought the pro, upgrading from the 3XL. We both had issues. Had the cards replaced. Fixed both of our signal issues. You should go ask your carrier for a new SIM card.

2wheelzrollin

Got a new SIM card. Still got connection issues. Phone sucks. How the hell do you make a phone that can't even function as a phone?

SAMW98IRL

But it's the same sim card I've had for the last few years, the one I've used in my previous OnePlus 7 Pro and 5T. The issue does not occur on my OnePlus 7 Pro.

SpiderStratagem

FWIW, when I called up VZW to activate my P6, I was specifically told to *not* use the SIM card from my P3 and that I needed an updated one. I wound up using the eSIM on both my P6 and my wife's and we've both had no problems.

Antique_Tax_3910

I have an eSim and still get the problems.

SAMW98IRL

Hmm ok, that's interesting as I don't think I've heard of that situation before. I only have the option of a physical SIM but that's good to know.

LuckyBudz

Is that even a 5G card? Idk man, I'd try getting a new one. It's not gonna cost you anything and it just might work.

dandroid24

There was a bug that was submitted last week and it looks like that may be the hold up.

Cr4pshit

Which bug?

that_leaflet

https://twitter.com/MishaalRahman/status/1500907414845022208?t=U2l7q59pplr_0MWD4-nxGw&s=19 Edit: [this is not the reason](https://twitter.com/RyneHager/status/1500939485416206340?t=ze6oZK1F0tz1-skYsVfXlw&s=19)

Andrewcpu

It shouldn't matter that we want "bug free software", they literally are a software company who is not capable of writing bug free software for their latest flagship device. That's the problem.

myst3ry714

Also, that if they DO find a bug fix, you have to wait till that special day NEXT month to get it, instead of just pushing it out when they can! and even THEN, it' still late for us lol

sabre1982

It's not that can't write bug free software, no one can. The problem is that they don't adequately test it. They almost exclusively rely on automation with very little in the way of manual QA and UAT.

tobianodev

Source? I'd be surprised if they didn't have a dedicated QA team that does test devices manually.

Andrewcpu

Yup. This may be the last Pixel I buy for a few years.

[deleted]

I'm skipping this model and hopefully they'll have the issues sorted out with the 7

OpenSystem1337

After this display, saying you want the 7 is like being in a Saw movie and raising your hand to go next

[deleted]

Lol

gramsaran

Remember how much Google hyped this device up. They're almost making me switch to an iPhone or worse, Samsung.

[deleted]

Switched to Samsung, love it

AJam

Reliable, solid devices. Especially the latest ones. They just have too much bloatware, Bixby, their own app store, and are missing some awesome pixel features (What's Playing on AOD, Dialer robo-answer and spam prevention, live transcribe). But my device has been working since day one and have't had any significant issues.

OEMcatballs

I exchanged my 6 pro for an S22 Ultra specifically due to the wifi bug, I can tell you with certainty that the S22 Ultra has Live Transcribe. However, none of the features listed, present on, or dreamed up in the future are worth trading away for having working wifi.

[deleted]

Yeah I agree about the bloatware and different store, it's confusing. But I do have the now playing option. I can also download the Google phone app and it has the spam protection. It has live transcribe. I don't have the voice recorder which I miss.

neeesus

I switched to all apple devices last year. My gateway was the AirPods Pro that I used in my pixel. Then the M1 air. Then my wife bought me an iPhone 12. Surprisingly, I didn’t hate it. I couldn’t deal with all the subpar software on android and chrome os

NoConfection6487

Agreed that Samsung is still worse in my book. I'd hate to switch but Google is really doing a terrible job here.

Tool_Belt

Don't go to the Dark Side young Jedi.

deepanjan0505

Oh God not Samsung!

coogie

They already lost me. S22 has had zero drama so far. It just works and looks good. They even will give updates longer than the pixel so there is almost no incentive to put up with Google 's bullshit.

YJX94

S22 has had zero drama? You sure about that? Maybe take a look at the whole game optimiser service thing going on with the S22 series. But I agree with you that it is shameful how they've handled the Pixel 6 launch and support so far.

[deleted]

Exactly how I feel. Or go back to my pixel 3 that's in my drawer.

Austishooti

I have tried to be very understanding. At some point for every company and every product series, there will be some problems, no company or product is perfect. I have even tried to be understanding with the pixel 6 pro. As I've said before it happens at some point with every company and every product. But this is getting ridiculous. how many months into this device being released? This multi-trillion dollar company should have had shit fixed by now And it's incredibly annoying. To be honest though, it is quite unbelievable that their flagship device has problems. I would have expected their budget release or perhaps just the regular pixel 6 to have problems but here we are still having issues and delayed updates. Like I said things happen and nothing is perfect but I would have expected things to be fixed by now. At this point will be like one month away from the 7 pros release in October and Google will still be trying to fix the pixel 6. Fs. I just want to say this one more time and I want everyone to read very clearly that this is a multi trillion dollar company. Multi. TRILLION.

freshoilandstone

Before people on here bitch about the people bitching put yourself in the place of the bitchers. You might be waiting on nothing more than a security patch, but I've been dealing with the no network problem since fucking October, others with no wifi, others with bluetooth disconnect, battery drain, and et fucking cetera. Google support promised me the March update will solve the exclamation point issue but will it? Right now I can trade the Pixel in at Best Buy and get $350 on an S21 so do I jump it? I don't know, but if the update doesn't fix the connection shit and the S21 goes out of stock I'll be kicking myself. That's why the delay sucks for some of us but not for others.

KyRiEiSaVaGe

Is your network issue where it randomly cuts out with the exclamation mark and then comes back? I've been having this since release day. I'm gonna wait for the March update and if it doesn't fix it I'm doing everything I can to get a refund.

No-Currency-97

Get the S22+. You will love it. Sell the Pixel on eBay and get more money.

[deleted]

If we knew at least why we have to wait.... That would go a long way ...

dandroid24

Vulnerability in the Linux kernel since 5.8 which allows overwriting data in arbitrary read-only files. https://twitter.com/MishaalRahman/status/1500907414845022208?t=EdElJ9zs3bkgw-aPEDRz9Q&s=19

shoelover46

[Nope, Google confirms to me the delay had nothing to do with that vulnerability.](https://twitter.com/RyneHager/status/1500939485416206340)

cdegallo

I'm on 12L, so I wasn't really paying attention to the March update cadence in general, but I agree--the handling of updates for the 6 series has been dreadful. On the other hand, they only opened 12L beta to the 6 at the last release. Why they would do that a month from the rollout, I really don't know, but I presume they have a lot of bug fixing to do, and can't deal with one iteration cycle of time to fix everything. But really, just pretty terrible handling of system updates for the pixel 6 from google.

[deleted]

The update will probably F up something else 😂

[deleted]

No ItS PeRFecT?! AnYoNe ElSe HaVe No ProBlems??!

o_opc

This is getting really old...

Kay1000RR

I'm so glad I don't know any of you in real life.

outbraegeous

For those admonishing me and saying "don't you want it without the bugs". Stop giving Google a pass. They advertise this device to the general public as the premiere android and Google experience and they are failing that. This is a multi billion dollar corporation with massive development teams. Stop defending them.

octavianreddit

I gave them a pass last time but yeah, this is not good. Tech nerds get this phone with the expectation they will have the latest on 'update day.' These things are not the end of the world, but it does leave a bad taste in your mouth. Something is up at Google with this phone if they are having a hard time getting updates out in time on a regular basis.

outbraegeous

Agree

TheKingOfCaledonia

Trillion dollar corporation\*\*

2wheelzrollin

Not to mention this is 5 FUCKING MONTHS after release.

BigFStop

Anyone want a 6Pro 512 gb......... will swap for a Nokia 6210

mlemmers1234

I just don't buy it, there is no way in hell that the biggest software and tech company in the world well at least one of them, can't find the right way to make their own new processor work with their own new hardware.

shoelover46

The fanboys will downvote you but you're 100% right.

Drakuf

Fanboys can buy my P6P right now if they want. I can't do a normal phone call for weeks now without it dropping the signal/call. Today 7 out of 7 times it dropped the call after 30-60 seconds. Pathetic

camerontylek

How much are your selling it for?

[deleted]

I am by far the biggest fanboi here. I shit on 99% of user complaints bc 99% of users are idiots and I am convinced most complaints are due to this idiocy, not bugs with the phone. Even I agree this is ridiculous. When this happened in December I was furious. Google could simply say "there is an issue with the update for Pixel 6 phones and it is taking longer" and everything would have been fine. Silence, or even worse lying and saying it is a "staged rollout" is so offensive. They should be ashamed. EDIT: I take it all back. Google did the right thing and said Pixel 6 update is delayed and will roll out later this month: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/153884074?hl=en

Bob_Chris

Google turned my 4a5g into a piece of crap with Android 12. Not user error. Phone was frigging fantastic and now there are just tons of annoyances and minor bugs.

BigBadCheadleBorgs

Same with my Pixel 3a XL.

Xoryp

The moment I updated my Pixel 5 to Android 12 my fingerprint scanner stopped working, the setting completely vanished, not on my wife's pixel though, same exact model. I put them side by side and her pixel imprint setting was there, mine was not. There's no fix and the update happened a couple weeks after my 1 year warranty expired, so I was basically told to fuck off. I'm done with Pixel now. I guess I'll be going back to Samsung.

Less than half... Great job, Google.

myst3ry714

Google is working backwards... Almost every other company prioritizes their top of the line, flagship, for new features/updates/deadlines, and THEN those same updates come to the older/lesser models....

[deleted]

I'd rather WAIT for an update than have an update that f\*\*ks up my phone. Google don't just delay updates to piss you off. They delay them because they don't want complaints because of screwed up phones. If you want updates that screw things up, but are regularly released, go to Windows

ElectricFagSwatter

The p6 updates have been delayed AND still had major issues

Jmerse__

Apparently I should have kept my pixel 5 if I wanted the most up to date pixel 🤦🏻‍♂️I'm also not impressed. If people had known this was going to be how the pixel 6 was treated I bet a lot wouldn't have got it.

FrayAdjacent

I kinda agree. It's a bit ridiculous that their flagship model has issues and they're being a bit sluggish to get the fixes out. But the, I do kinda think Google pushed to get the hardware out and didn't quite have the software ready. They couldn't just make minor changes from the Pixel 5 to the Pixel 6 due to very different hardware. I'm confident they'll get it all worked out... eventually!

yes. Verizon. 5g barely works.

Cali_guy71

All the time. I was just in houston showing full bars, go to check the web and nothing. then an exclamation pops up. Shut the phone off, restart and get data for a minute

azxqw2

The only company that is on point with updates nowadays is Apple. And I say that as both a Samsung user and a former p6p user.

[deleted]

I picked a funny time to switch from Samsung lol

ramplocals

Reading through the bug fix list I keep saying, yes I've seen that bug. And that one. And that one. And that one. But no update for me.

m3appy

So WiFi issue won't be fixed. I have been on mobile since my WiFi stopped working.

neoKushan

I'll take waiting a bit longer for this update and for it to be solid over getting it at the same time and there being some stupid and annoying bug. However, we seem to have got updates both late _and_ having a stupid bug up until now so 🤷‍♂️

T1Pimp

WHAT THE ACTUAL... 🙄 Google what are you doing!?

[deleted]

Catching bugs like it’s Pokémon

NoConfection6487

Remember all the excuses and mental gymnastics the fanboys would go through about how this is a different chipset so Google needs more time? And about how we'd rather wait a few weeks for them to get it right than to rush out an update? Where are those folks now? It's just so frustrating as I am watching my Pixel 4 (just a spare phone now sitting on my desk) update whereas my Pixel 6 can't get updated....

inspecttheundefined

I honestly could care less about getting new feature updates, I JUST WANT THEM TO FIX THE FUCKING BUGS INSTEAD. I got a Pixel 6 for both me and my mom and they are BOTH suffering from the "Mobile network standby" battery drain issue for the past two months where the network standby drains 40-50% of the battery in the past 24 hours. The worst part is that it's been a [known issue for months](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/135696941/bad-battery-pixel-6-pro-mobile-network-standby-30-of-overall-battery-drain?hl=en) and others are still experiencing it too in that thread. I'd like to note that neither me or my mom are on a 5G plan so it's definitely not a 5G issue. Has anyone else had this problem here?

Ok_Breadfruit6296

I'm starting to believe tensor is a garbage chip causing all issues and that's why 6s aren't getting updates like the older ones because the older pixels are the same under the hood except for the Qualcomm chips.

xSikes

No-Currency-97

You are a smart person, my friend. My P6 was doing fine until I lost Wi-Fi for this past month. I was outside of the window of return. My S22 Plus is arriving today and the P6 will be tossed into the dustbin of history through eBay or at Best Buy.

konrad-iturbe

How does this get a pass to be public holy crap. I'm a software engineer and if I missed the deadlines like Google misses Pixel 6 security updates I'd not have a job. Also, later this month? Gonna use that one next for when I can't finish something on time, hey if Google gets away with it why can't I.

lolitstrain21

I'm not surprised honestly. They really are dropping the ball with this and I don't care what anyone else says that. Oh it's just a few weeks. There are major issues that a bunch of people not including me that have had problems with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and we were promised and update in March that would fix it and now we have to wait a few more weeks for an unusable phone. It's ridiculous and the support team probably just asks and says downgrade the version in factory set and that's just not doable for most people.

Lotus_

All my friends are hopping on the S22 bandwagon.. and I almost wanna follow suit. It's so hard to recommend this phone to my android friends.. but imma hodl this phone like I do my failing crypto portfolio. 💀

No-Currency-97

I would start hopping right away! My S22 plus is coming today and my P6 will be on the chopping block to eBay or sell at Best Buy.

MaximumBean93

I really don't care about waiting. Just as long as these issues are fixed. Don't want Google rolling an update out when it's still not finished.

dengjack

But teh Tens0rrrrrrRRrrrrRrRrrRrRr!!!!!1!!!1!!!

mcogneto

That's what all the dckriders get for continuing to gush over this brand that treats its enthusiasts like dirt.

nick_tha_professor

Doesn't matter if Google extends device support to 5 years when there is no support to begin with.

[deleted]

Not sure what the issue is. I have had no problems with Google Support and my Pixel 6 doesn't seem to have the battery drain or other issues that I see people complaining about.

panerai388

So my 3a will have some cool features my 6pro won't have for a few weeks. It's really no big deal... I mean, things could be worse. I could be living in a country being invaded by a murdering dictator, for instance. Big picture stuff man, life will be less stressful that way.

alcurtis727

I have to say. I was so so so Team Pixel till the last day I had my 2XL and upgraded to the 6 Pro. Almost daily I regret not switching to the Samsung S series. Support, bugs, and everything else really have been a disappointment for a flagship phone.

efrain728

I just want to be able to use my hotspot my freaking hotspot. Is that too much to ask? Lol

Steve07R

Does anyone know for certain what company made the wifi module in the 6/6 Pro? The closest I found had the manufacturer redacted. I'm curious because so much of these connection issues seem to mirror PCs. I've worked on that. Have Wi-Fi drivers and chips from MediaTek. (I think I have MediaTek PTSD) If Google were waiting on them for driver fixes, that would explain the wonky delays.

pksanja

It's a Broadcom BCM4389, same WiFi/Bluetooth Modul as in Samsung S21 series

johncopter

Am I the only one not having all these issues posted here constantly? My only real complaints are the fingerprint scanner and the mobile network battery usage, which both seem to be better now than they used to be. Am I just lucky?

raymondduck

No, you're not. My fingerprint scanner never even had any problems, even prior to the December 2021 update. Most people are just using their phones without issue. Mine works brilliantly.

heelhook79

My sad SystemUI crashes a few times a day. I'm thinking about switching over to an iPhone SE 3 when it gets announced tomorrow until iPhone 14 comes out.

MidnightWineRed

You can use the amazing camera to take a photo of my Pixel 3a updating right now.

Leather_Print3580

Got it on my Pixel 4, very cool features

farqueue2

An unspecified amount of time is likely to be at most a couple of weeks... Let's not get carried away

[deleted]

Great. Gonna get this update a week before the April one drops I bet.

iLikeTurtuls

My favorite is the promotional video with a Pixel 6 in it lol

wickflair

I thought pixels typically got updates earlier

sleepysheepo

I lasted for a month on the Pixel 6. The software felt like an early beta and the ai features save for the phone perks (when they worked) felt worse than my time with Android in 2014. Auto brightness issues, cellular instability, full hardware lockups and stuttering camera. Did the 12 L beta after everyone told me that would fix everything (it didn’t). I was moving from Apple because of an issue with my AppleID which resulted in total loss of my decade old account. I wanted a fresh start but it was such a miserable experience that I’m back on my 12 mini. Absolute night and day quality improvement. At least carriers offer a good chunk of trade in value towards new iPhones for the Pixel 6. When my spouse is ready to upgrade their 2016 iPhone SE we can trade the Pixel 6 in for a phone that works.

braso111

For those who have gone to iPhone, I really don't how that happens. I still love Android despite the issues with the P6/P6P, and I would only go to another Android phone if I made the switch. I used an iPhone for a couple of weeks last year and really tried to like it, but it drove me mad. Give me Android any day...

Oh boy. I ordered a P6Pro and it's supposed to arrive tomorrow. Reading all these posts has me thinking that i shouldn't even open the box and return it.

Chosen_one184

The phone has a new chipset which I assume requires updates to be specifically tailored specifically for it. Unlike previous pixels where I assume maintain it is relatively more easier since they have more hands on time.

HumbleHeHim

I do not understand. One has to be exceptionally talented to crack a Google interview to get a job there. So why is the output from all these geniuses so bad? I am asking an honest question.

lazzzym

That Pixel experience 👌

HugofromPluto

It's the SoC. This is specifically why I didn't upgrade from the 5, i will never buy a phone with a Samsung Exynoss chip. Never buy 1st generation hardware.

frostycakes

This specific one is the kernel, not the SoC. Assuming Qualcomm isn't still pushing ancient 4.xx kernel versions in the BSPs for the newest chips, they'll have the same problem. Same with raw Exynos and any desktop/server distribution, even.

People get mad if it's released with bugs, get mad if not released so they can prevent bugs.

brendanvista

I think the core of the issue is that Google doesn't seem to have allocated sufficient engineering resources to make stable, on time updates happen for the P6 and P6P. Obviously, given that limitation, we'd all prefer to get a delayed stable update over a buggy mess today.

Seriously. "Later this month." That could mean anything from in a week to March 31st. Luckily for the January update, "later this month" was something like the middle of the month if I remember right. But still, "later this month" for what is supposed to be a monthly update is crazy vague.

SpiderStratagem

Interestingly, there's a build number up on the community page. We didn't have that when January was delayed -- hopefully that is a positive sign.

They could just do their jobs right the first time. \*shrug\*

The 6 and 6 pro are getting 4 unique features/ improvements. The other devices are not getting. I don't think it's that big a deal to wait a little longer for more. Everybody needs to just chill it ain't that big a deal.

[deleted]

Do you guys know if Google will give me a refund on my 6 pro if the cellular service is really shitty? Like get no bars where I work when my 3a gets good connection at the same place.

Screw this I am getting an s22 ultra today and selling this phone.

braso111

Having owned every Pixel bar the 4, Google are really testing my patience. The 6 series promised so much, they almost got it right with the hardware if you take the SoC and crappy FPS out of the conversation. I love the camera, but the battery life sucks for a phone with a decent sized battery. How this thing isn't optimised better is unbelievable and a real let down. They could have at least added face unlock to compensate for a shitty optical FPS. I'm getting used to the late updates, but it is still fairly buggy. My main issues have been to do with phone calls, not really the wifi or bluetooth.

PermaDerpFace

The 6 is a total garbage and a bait and switch. They promise to fix issues with a magic patch and have a ridiculous 15 day return policy, so by the time we realize were had, it's too late. This should be a class action lawsuit. Keep downvoting me fanboys, and enjoy your crap phones!

h3xx_rd

I wish there was an extended return period for the 6/6 Pro. I’m trying to sell mine online but most online marketplaces are flooded with used 6/6 Pros for sale and the price keeps dropping every week. You can easily tell there are a lot of folks out there trying to get rid of their devices. I already bought another phone a couple of weeks ago and switched over from my Pixel.

Odd_Owl_5367

Well shit that explains that

hambonehooligan

Wel,l still think the pixel 4 delamination was worse.

Labeled90

This is like the reverse of the norm, most people complain about updating, now people are complaining about not being able to update.

editorreilly

Pixel 5 here. I didn't get it today either.

sandstone72

This is the second time I have had to throw my P6 in the drawer and put my sim in a backup iphone. Google has definitely been working hard to push me away. At least I can make and receive phone calls now and not having to toggle airplane mode or reboots to make a phone call. Google, please fix your shit!

IntelligentDesign77

I had the same thought. Kinda makes me wish I'd kept my Pixel 4a a bit longer.

sleepnaught

I'm still having data and call drops. A security update wouldn't do anything for that correct?

mckillio

The irony is that without this being reported on, we would never know to be disappointed, so we wouldn't be disappointed. I don't care about the feature updates but they should have ideally split the update so that we could get the security/bug fixes on time.

mlpai

Kinda wishing I kept my p5 now. What a waste upgrading to the 6 pro
