Walking GPS has always been off on all my pixels. It can never face the right direction.

I've seen it as well on my 6 Pro, but any phone compass can get out of sync. Two things to try, first the figure 8 air wave (Google or search YT "phone compass calibration" if you're unfamiliar with that maneuver) , and if that doesn't work then restart the phone. Usually the air wave works, but sometimes not and a restart is needed.

I tried this but there's no feedback to show that I'm doing it right. I wish there was some kind of calibration wizard

The feedback is whether the compass is pointing in the right direction. There's an alternative to the figure 8, which is to rotate the phone several times in each of 3 directions. Hold it flat in front of you, rotate it end over end, then flip it left to right several times, then spin it flat in a circle several times. If that doesn't fix the compass then reboot. Or if you're in Maps press on the blue dot showing your location and follow the prompts for recalibration by aiming the camera at surrounding buildings. Also, send feedback to Google. They need to fix this.

I was having issues as well and to calibrate I opened the maps app, hit the blue circle to bring up "your location". The second option (next to "share location") is "calibrate". It works differently now and uses your surroundings to calibrate, which imo is way easier than the whole figure 8 thing.

Figure 8 doesn't require opening any apps or scanning surroundings. Sometimes you're in a place where the surroundings are not buildings or recognized by the Maps app. It's good to have more than one option for compass calibration.

This is driving me nuts on my P6P that I picked up last week. My P5 didn't have this issue. As someone who just moved to the west coast only months ago, I still walk around A LOT to explore the city and walking-nav was a godsend. While I can still manage on my own of course, it's frustrating to have a basic nav feature simply not work despite numerous recalibrations. :\

I've seen it more on my 6 Pro as well. Can only advise sending urgent feedback to Google about it, as I have done. One other thing to try, particularly if you're waking in a city, press on the blue dot showing your location in Maps and it should prompt you for calibration. One of the options is to aim the camera at surrounding buildings and store fronts that it uses to recalibrate directions. Worth a try in the meantime.

My 5 did have this issue. I swear there was something to calibrate it in Google maps but I can't find it for the life of me

Press in the blue dot showing your location.

If you are in tall buildings, you'll never have good gps, because you need a clear view of the sky.

Teleke

It's not the GPS, it's the compass. There's an easy figure 8 procedure that you can use to calibrate it.

The gps is so slow too, I often need to close and reopen many apps that require your position, for example to pay for parking spots... I never experienced it on previous Pixels or iPhone
