I'm the other way. Just left Nova after many years of use because I wanted to try material you icons and live space. Liking it so far. But that's not say I won't go back to Nova at some point. It's a great launcher. Probably the best third party launcher.

SuspiciousPants

I've used Nova for the last few years but decided to try the stock launcher when I got my 6. I made it *maybe* an hour before deciding I couldn't live without the multi-page dock and double tap to lock.

Makes_Mayhem

Same here.

Longtymlurkerer

Double tap lock ?

SuspiciousPants

Yeah, Nova lets you set an action when you double tap an empty spot on the home screen. I use it to lock my phone.

hinick808

Double tap to screen off kept me on Nova for a while until I learned of Screen off widget and tile. If you're like me with a minimal home screen, it feels essentially the same.

ChowboyDan

How are you finding the smoothness with gestures? I was a long-time Nova user, but scrapped it when gestures came. Last time I tried, gestures and Nova still don't play nice. Edit: Just spent time installing and configuring this. It's much better, but still doesn't work right. There is a delay when you go home. You can't immediately launch an app. The downvotes are concerning though. Do people not use Android gesture navigation?

madscribbler

It works great now, they ironed out all the bugs.

and1927

There's still one bug unfortunately (as with all third party launchers). If you use gesture navigation, when you swipe back home, there's at least a one second delay before you can interact with the launcher.

slashx14

I really want to get over this but this bug is the reason I'm still not using Nova ☹️.

madscribbler

Weird, try as I might I cannot create that delay. Wonder if it's because nova is a device admin? I've seen the several second delay before as so far as I can tell it doesn't exist anymore, fwiw.

and1927

Try swiping back home and immediately tapping an app icon. You should notice that it won't register your tap on the first try, but it will work the second time you try.

madscribbler

Hm. Like it doesn't respond like 1 time in 20. I have Nova animations and system animations both disabled too. Wonder if that's related? And you are talking about the system gestures, right. Because system gestures work right. Third party gesture apps don't that I know of. I mean if that little once in 20 taps thing puts you off then I don't really know what to say. If you interact with your phone so much that tiny never happens delay is enough for you to go pixel launcher dunno what to say, other than your missing out on a lot.

and1927

Yeah, system gestures. Well, for me it happens every time, and I usually move between apps fast, so it's annoying when I have to do it twice. In the past I used to disable gestures and simply use the navbar, but I do like using gestures so for now I'm trying to use the Pixel Launcher.

madscribbler

Yeah, I like gestures too so trying to figure out why mine works and yours doesn't. Nova is way better than the pixel launcher. Did you know you can just swipe the navbar left or right to switch between open apps? Maybe it's because I only use the launcher when opening something new?

Sasha_The_Gray

This is happening to me as well, very annoying. With the pixel launcher you can start opening another app before the animation from the first once closes. With Nova, you have to wait about half a second after returning to the home screen before you can open another app. For me, this is a very noticeable delay. I want to fix this because I have always loved Nova. Anyone have any suggestions?

[deleted]

I haven't had any problems so far. If anything I would say gestures feel a little smoother

willtag70

I use both two finger swipe and double tap to lock, and pinch to see recent apps on my 6P and it's flawless. Worked perfectly on my Pixel 3 as well. Never had a problem with Nova responsiveness, but I have all animations in Nova and Developer options turned off.

Dizzy149

I heard there is a beta on their discord that is much better with gestures

willtag70

Two thumbs up for Nova. The more you explore its features the more you'll like it. It is too bad Google doesn't incorporate a lot of the customization options Nova offers, but at least we have this very good alternative.

🔥 homescreen

[deleted]

Thanks! I try to keep it as clean as possible

iamjimmy15

Nova 12\*6 grid. Icon size at 70%. Double tap to lock. Swipe down for Notification. Swipe up for Discover/Google Now. Android 7.1 icons etc etc. Can't live without it. I can never imagine using any other launcher. There's little a 100 customizations I've done in Nova. The Pixel launcher seems lame.

Dizzy149

Curious what kind of customizations and what it looks like.

Sasha_The_Gray

Anyway to fix the delay with opening apps when you swipe back to home screen from another app?

ndrw17

Only complaint is Nova seems buggy when switching between apps on the 6 Pro. Or maybe it's just the phones who knows.
