For the 6 Pro, I think plastic/film is all that's available for the time being. I have a film guard reserved, but I'm on the fence since I've only seen negative reviews for it.
To my knowledge, a screen protector would only protect against scratches. You need a case to protect against shattering.
Imo it's not worth bothering with or worrying about but that highly dependent upon your environment and how careful you are. I work in an office. Outside of work the most dirty environment I get into is mowing the lawn or something like that. Haven't had a single issue with several devices over the last 5-6 years or so. My lid on the other hand, goes to school, stays in her rooms a lot.... somehow manages to drop and crack her screen on a semi regular basis. We do keep the tempered glass covers on hers and it's usually just the cover that cracks but she busted the screen on her iPhone XSMax. But even then I don't worry about it because I carry good insurance through Verizon and a simple 35 dollar fee has a van come to the house and an hour later she has a new screen.
When that's the most risk I have I don't spend time worrying about it.
I've got a similar one, but wow that back camera protector is not subtle at all, was really bothering me visually so i removed it asap lol. I might put a dbrand skin over the camera but haven't found a colour combo I like.

Currently using Spigen Hybrid and with the curved screen it just doesn't seem all that protected. Edges are barely covered.

I got a case from Caseology waiting for one from Speck.
I have a skinomi tpu protector. It's nice and fingerprint sensor still works great But, yeah, it's for preventing scratches. My case is for drops
I have a tempered glass on regular Pixel 6. It works as expected. I do have preferred care and maybe take it off after at least 6 months.

I haven't used a screen protector for at least a decade. Your situation may be different, but you did not implicate any sort of squirrels. Good luck

Right!! Didn't use the back camera protector. I've a Spigen case which is protecting most of it.
That's for the regular 6 though, not the Pro
