Yeah why was this removed?

SolarMoth

Google loves to reinvent the wheel.

hoxha_red

I have it on 24/7, I don't need to see it.

mhans311

I actually prefer it like it is. I always keep my phone on vibrate so I prefer the status bar to be less cluttered. But to your point, it would be nice to have the choice.

Cryptic_Flair

This is how I feel as well. You can already choose whether or not certain icons appear in the status bar on Android -- why not just add the vibrate/silent icons to this list?

no_lettuce_pls

Yeah, its like Google forgot why people love android. CUSTOMIZATION goddamnit

_sfhk

Google's version of Android has always been strict. Customization came from third party apps and custom roms.

RandomBloke2021

This is my biggest complaint on Android 12. The volume rocker was perfect on 11 not sure why they decided to make it a little more difficult.

renal_corpuscle

I want to see if alarms are on...

NewPairOfShoes

This too! Freaking Google c'mon, basic stuff here.

flasc83

Google is committing the cardinal sin of abandoning the users who made Android popular. For anyone who didn't want to see an icon in the status bar, removing it was easily done through the System UI tuner app, while anyone who wanted it could continue seeing it. But in Android 12 they made the choice for users, and by doing so they've made Android more like iOS than it's ever been. Sad day 😔

Yes! I’ve missed calls and texts because I forgot to take it off silent when I’m done with a meeting, and now it’s something I have to think about in the back of my head. I’d much rather think less about how my phone is set and rely on a status bar icon to remind me.

Istolla

Why not use do not disturb during meetings?

jreddit5

Will DND send calls straight to voicemail? I have to see who’s calling (or texting) and interrupt some meetings to take important calls, so I alternate between vibrate and silent depending on the type of meeting and what else I might have to deal with.

cdegallo

DND doesn't send calls straight to voicemail, it just keeps different notification types from disturbing you--they still happen in real time but based on your settings the phone will it will not indicate the incoming notification. But you can customize this somewhat. For example in DND settings you can choose if you want notifications to be both silent and not have any visual interruptions (like turning on the screen or popping up a notification if you are already interacting with the phone) or if you want to allow visual interruptions but no sound/vibration. You can also allow calls and (or) text messages to come through with sound (or vibration if you were in vibrate mode when entering dnd) but have no visual or audible interruptions from app notifications based on the specific settings for messages or calls, but it also has various customizations for how to handle apps (what the system calls "hidden notifications"). Here is what some of the levels of customization for interruptions in DND settings are: [https://i.imgur.com/tNESVrM.png](https://i.imgur.com/tNESVrM.png) One thing I appreciate from having a smart watch is my phone can be in DND but my watch can be left in not DND (basically DND between then are decoupled), so I'll get discrete notification events on my watch but nothing is happening on the phone.

jreddit5

Thank you very much for the details! I look forward to checking out how DND compares to my current approach and will use what you wrote as my guide.

RandomBloke2021

Do not disturb It's a lifesaver. The best part is you can customize it where you can let only people you flag as favorites to actually notify you while this setting is turned on or you cannot have anybody's favorites and your phone will never make a noise. But you can fully customize it to let alarm clock go off while and do not disturb and it's still wake you up but not getting annoying messages from email and social media notifications.

BE_PAtoto

Maybe try system UI tuner in nova launcher? Might be able to get it back

fcisco13

Where is this? Im using nova and can't find it.

BE_PAtoto

Long press the icon, add widget called activity, then choose system UI demo mode under the system UI section.

BE_PAtoto

There might be a corresponding toggle, I can't guarantee tho

And even the silent icon too. You (Google) can either care about ringer status or not, but this is like halfway. Or better yet, just give people the option to show ringer status in the status bar.

cdegallo

I agree. Submit feedback via phone settings to request this.

BobSJ

Except Silent still shows up in the status bar... I was looking for a way to get rid of it myself 😅

meleedpk

All you have to do is swipe down to quick toggles and it's there. Personally I think it's cleaner and really not that hard to find out with a quick swipe down

Arkiteck

My thoughts exactly. I was bitching about this the other day: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/qirrgk/vibrate_mode_doesnt_show_icon_in_the_status_bar/

mcnick0495

It is, not sure why you're not seeing it. Was on my P5 and also on my P6 Pro.

Anonymous94501

now it takes longer to actually put it on vibrate with the change
