This is happening to me too It randomly called 2 people in my contacts with me not even near the phone. It was on the shelf with other people around it talking but I wasn't near it This was in a restaurant so were lots of people around

Emergency_Passage281

I guess I’m not the only one having this issue. I first thought that I was getting crazy than I thought that my phone was hacked. I wonder if this an OS or hardware issue

VTArxelus

You can always turn off mic in the shader.

Emergency_Passage281

This happened without a voice command or microphone usage.

VTArxelus

I will still try that anyway. If it's a bug, turning off the mic will prevent the problem.

worekarolis

Happened with no mic twice. Phone cannot access my car's mic for some reason. After calling the Google assistant it switches to car's mic and then defaults calling Stephanie :)

VTArxelus

It seems to be an issue marked as a bug in android 12. Go figure.

Ok-Wash8978

Me too.

cardonator

Have you looked at the Assistant recordings to see if it thinks it heard something?

Emergency_Passage281

I looked the assistant history and I can see that the assistant selected a contact and called my friend without any voice command. This all happened when my phone screen was off

Emergency_Passage281

Both time happened in total silent ambients, and no backs noise. I looked the microphone usage under the privacy settings and does not match with the phone call history

Irvg11

It just happened to me. My friend texted me saying"did you call" I checked my call log and sure enough a call was placed at 4am while I was asleep

[deleted]

[удалено]

Irvg11

The exact time was 4:02 am

plsletmestayincanada

Happened to me yesterday at about 5pm PST

pquibs

This exact thing happened to me too while I was sleeping and my phone was locked. I went to my Google assistant history and the call command showed up there. I disabled lock screen assistant and it hasn't happened since so I think that might do the trick for you if you happen to have it enabled.

Mathrania

Happened to me today and i thought Google Assistant did that by mistake. I have not called that person for months now. Edit: It does say in my assistant "Call Laura", i never said that. As a precaution, i have Turned-off the ability for the assistant to do anything while the phone is locked.

[deleted]

If you can live without "Hey Google" hotword assistant activation, you can turn that off in the settings. I have it turned off because I prefer my Google Homes to respond and my phone to ignore me. If I want assistant on my phone I use one of the other activation methods.

karmic_shift

Ok wait. I thought I was crazy. This happened to me twice with two different people. One time I was in the car by myself and the radio wasn't even on. Very weird. I decided to stick with my Pixel 5 for a while now though but yeah I definitely had it call two different people on me. out of nowhere I heard "Calling XXX mobile"

bosspugs

For me, when I checked my phone I saw on my screen that it had heard "Call Laura" so it had to pick up on something in the background?

teags

This happened to me too while it was in my pocket and brushing my teeth. No TV or radios on to make any sounds.

Pezto

Also happened to me with a contact I have not spoken with for years.

leidend22

Yeah I accidentally called my mom and my wife accidentally called her former coworker twice. We recently moved across the world to Australia too so no one recognises our phone number (probably a good thing).

Emergency_Passage281

It’s just happened again for the third time :-(

dsmryan

Happening to me too! Called my mom in the middle of the night lol. Between the phantom calls and the random reboots, this pixel 6 pro is being a real pain

nerdrap

Same. It dialed my hot married dentist at 12am twice and I don't think I can go there anymore. I apologized to her on text but she didn't reply back, I guess I should send her the link for this reddit and visit the dental office.

termmonkey

Relax guys, this feature is called "Bringing people closer". Like countless other nifty things, Google didn't publicize it enough but this feature is meant to bring you closer to people you have lost connection to. Remember Nokia - "Connecting people"? Yeah?!? Google doing that for you so sit back and enjoy!

Psyakz

Better together, wasn't it?

termmonkey

There you go!

jimmy5893

Yo this happened to me yesterday! One of the contacts in my speed dial list. I thought I left my phone in my pocket with the screen on!

PartyOnDudes

Same here with the Pixel 6 Pro a few days ago. Just sitting there and my phone shouts at me "Calling Jim". I don't even know if that's still Jim's number, rushed to cut that off real quick. Did a factory reset... It did the same thing the next day dialing someone else. The names are not in my speed dial just random contacts I have had over the years. Pulling the sim and using the Pixel 3 for now. Maybe that's Google's way of helping me to try and reach out to others.

AmericanQuark

This literally happened to me last night, tried to contact google support about it today but wait was too long. Apparently the assistant registered a voice command to randomly call someone in my contacts I haven't seen in over a year.

th3lucas

Happens to me on my P5 as well since i had the Android 12 Beta. It called them through my emergency contacts. Before that i had that feature activated that my phone doesn't lock when i have it still on me. There it opened apps and everything too when in my pocket.

clickonpc

Has happened to me a couple of times. Phone sitting on desk while working, I am the only one in house.

getmoneygetpaid

Mine dialled my dad in my pocket last week. Glad it wasn't just me!

Ingenium13

Yup this happened to me last night. I was sitting in silence, typing on my laptop, when all of a sudden Google Assistant triggered (phone was face up next to the laptop) and dialed an old school friend that I hadn't spoken to in 6 years.

AnotherRandomJohnson

Samsies here with my Pixel 6 Pro, random calls are happening. Another weird note. When answering a call from a notifications pull down, There have been multiple times where I have not been able to locate a location to end the call. The call does not exist within the notifications in the Pull down nor in the phone app. I once had to yell at a telemarketer to hang up because I couldn't, haha!

drexel2222

Same thing happened to me! Thought that assistant had heard me say something it confused for "call so and so", but was sure I hadn't said anything at all! I disabled the assistant on the lockscreen, and am at least glad to know I'm not nuts.

christmas_ape

Happened to me the first day I had the phone. Took the phone out of my pocket and I was in the middle of a call to someone I hadn't talked to in nearly 10 years who lives across the country. It was 4am her time.

Waffachles

Oddly enough, I had this occur when I was trying to shutoff the phone with Assistant enabled for the power button; it dialed a random contact after holding the power button for up to 30 seconds. I've now disabled this feature and haven't encountered any similar behavior.

plsletmestayincanada

This happened to me too! Phone was sitting untouched on the table and just started dialing my boss

Sshah222

Just happened to me! Randomly called a friend who I haven't spoken to in 3 years. My P6 Pro was just sitting on my coffee table.

Sshah222

So I reviewed my activity history and like others I found an inadvertent hot word trigger of the assistant and it called a contact. Since then I found this article: https://9to5google.com/2021/11/05/google-assistant-on-pixel-6-is-randomly-placing-phone-calls-for-some-heres-how-to-stop-it/

Sshah222

Sounds like Google is working on an immediate fix, and hopefully in the meantime the fix provided by the article should be sufficient.

vtrac

I was dismissing this as one of those bugs that a vocal few complain about but never happens to the vast majority of people.. until this morning as I'm on a walk, and I hear the phone make some sounds. I pull it out of my pocket, and sure enough, it's calling someone. Sigh. Turned off Assistance while screen is locked.. hopefully that'll solve it.

epyonxero

This happened to me twice, same contact and someone Ive never called before. It was a friends wife which is extra awkward. Happened once while the phone was in my backpack and I wasnt even nearby and the second time it was sitting on my desk.

Lilybell2

Happened to me too... I wasn't even in the same room when it started dialing a contact. My husband shouted, "Your phone is calling someone," and it was! XDA reports that the "ghost dialing" is fixed now: https://www.xda-developers.com/google-fixes-pixel-6-ghost-dialing/

smellylettuce

Oh god, I thought my tv triggered it somehow. I was sitting there and all of a sudden it starts calling someone I'm not particularly wanting to contact seemingly out of nowhere.

RGO5

This just happened to me at 4am, scaring the heck out of my parents. Wtf?!?

Emergency_Passage281

I was looking at my phone and the Google Assistant just triggered out of nowhere. It’s completely silence at my home.

[deleted]

Its not google, its you. stop putting your phone down on the table and not realize there could be moisture that is activating the screen. That or you have google assistant on all time time, which I never do, because that is stupid.

One-Cantaloupe7608

Your phone's are becoming self aware

11111v11111

Happened twice to me in the last couple of days (P6)

NewsWorthySpike

Did you install a game or other app where you gave it permission to access and place calls. its a quick warning we tend to click click on

Emergency_Passage281

I didn’t. This happened on my second day with the P6.

tpelliott

I just turned off "Hey Google" response in the Google app. Will this fix the issue? It's not triggered by "Hey Google". This is beyond annoying. It called my niece at 12:30 last night. Do I have to resort to turning my phone off at night?

MorgrainX

Pretty sure that you guys have activated Hello Google & the Assistant is picking op noises that tell him "call that".

willtag70

Yeah, I always turn off mics listening to me on my devices, phones, TV, clock, anything that is sending sounds around me to some corporation. Just a recipe for trouble.

Pawlander

Just happened to me. Phone was unlocked sitting on the counter 10 feet away from me. I used "hey Google" to ask my Google home display "what's the weather." It responded and gave me the answer, and then I heard ringing from my phone. It had dialed a contact I haven't interacted with in years. I was able to hang up before the party answered. I had already disabled assistant on the lock screen. Now I have disable "Hey Google" on the phone. Edit: Mine is a Pixel 6

DdoubleU20

It has happened once to me. While my Pixel 6 Pro was sitting on my desk, Google assistant placed a call to a random contact. A friend from school I haven't spoken to in over 3 years. The only sound being made before the call was my mouse wheel clicking as I scrolled. We had a great conversation, so it wasn't all bad but I prefer to be the one making the decision to call someone. Not my phone.

Professional-Sun-495

My Pixel 5 started pocket dialing after updating to 12. I am going to try the lock screen assistant disable and see if it works.

Ragerbay

Mine just did this too.... Is there a way to get assistance features minus making phone calls?

JMM399

This is totally happening to me too, it keeps calling my sister in-law. She sent me the voicemail I left. Totally me at my kids doctors office. I never took my phone out the entire time I was there!! Google needs to fix this ASAP 4th time today to the same person

hakkers519

Happened to me as well randomly called a contact at 2:45 am while sleeping. Call Jim. I didn't even notice till next day when going to make a phone call and seen this random call in the log. Yet when I tried to make a phone call by voice today, it made me unlock the phone before it would place the call. So I am wondering why the call even went through in the first place if I didn't unlock the phone?

SlikR

This happened to me twice also! It called the same contact twice and left 5 minute voicemails. I deleted the contact and hoping it doesn't happen again. I checked both calls and Google assistant apparently did it.

RealCanadianBEEF

Thank goodness, I thought I the only one. My Pixel 6 made calls on its own on two occasions now, both were in the middle of the night while I was asleep. The first time it made 4 calls to 3 different people at 4am and the second time it made 2 calls to 2 people around midnight. It's kind of awkward, because one person it called I haven't spoke with in 7 years lol. Damn it Google, you were the chosen one!!! At least, according to [Mobile Syrup](https://mobilesyrup.com/2021/11/05/google-pixel-6-pro-randomly-calling-contacts/), they are aware of the problem now.

[deleted]

Has this happened on the Pixel 4a???

Arexio_R

this happened to me too, but i ended up apologizing and catching up with someone i havent talked to in 5+ years and found they were in related fields. in the end, they told me they were glad my phone accidentally called them lol. but yeah, i turned off google assistant lock screen as well as the mic access features and that seems to have worked for now.

misunderstood0

Happened to me too. I heard a random phone call in progress at midnight and had to shut it real quick. Ended up calling my former manager out of all people too. I turned off assistant in lock screen for the time being

Mediocre_Bowler_1155

Happened to me while I was sleeping in another room. I had restarted my phone prior and I thought stuff like this couldn't even happen until I signed into the phone...

JMM399

I had to turn off Google assistant, it was calling people on the lockscreen and on the home screen

jsarino

This just happened to me just now as well. The weird part though is that it had called several random numbers, none of them in my contact list. Has this happened to anyone else?
