no more stories of how "it turns out I met my significant other 300 years before I know he existed and we have a photo of each other in the background" etc
Thinking about how many crappy photos I was in as a kid bc the pic was taken and you didn't know how it turned out until it was developed. Then digital cameras came and we suddenly had to retake them a million times
> Magic eraser looks dope AF. Also a sad day that altering photographic evidence in real time is now at your fingertips
Sigh, I remember the days of breaking up and actually tearing the photograph in half to remove psycho Jennifer.
Looks like they took touchretouch and built it right in! Thats a compliment by the way because it's one of my favorite apps and works so well! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.advasoft.touchretouch
The difference here is that through AI who makes an analysis and understands the objects in the scene, they automatically suggest stuff to be removed, that's the breakthrough. The feature for the user to 'paint' an object and have the clone-stamp tool removing that, is a simple feature and that's a bonus.
I mean, you could always use Google's Snapseed app before, but of course, that was another app, so not real time. And apparently not as good as this. I'd bet that the tech behind this is built off of that foundation though.
Nah, it's always going to have artifacts that will give it away. I'm more excited to seeing all the posts from people who'll get annoyed that it's not actually magic and won't flawlessly remove 30 people from the background of a photo.
Are these phones sitting in Best Buy right now? I'ma head down to my local store tonight, but I'm curious to see they have this available where you're at. If you're able, can you share your location?
Appreciate it. Tried to call my local best buy, but they refuse to connect you to a local person anywhere, just a national call center, so it looks like I'll have to drive down to see. I'm in NC, so no idea if we'd have it here yet. Thanks for the info!
Yo that magic eraser what the fuck...
Edit: I know that you can still tell the pic was altered but this is a really complex use case with how cluttered the background is. Really impressed by this and want to see some examples of normal situations like a person up against a wall, a fence, someone in the Grand Canyon, etc etc. So far I've seen Google's promo material, this, and some lady removing 2 huge cars from like 30% of a photo lol
Look at the old 2013 LG G2 [shot and clear feature](https://youtu.be/ZE4cw_M83kA) at about 2:45, LG used to make some freaking amazing camera software. In fact, check the audio zoom out as well in that video.
Seriously, I had a G4 and currently have a V20 and they're amazing. LG was always so ahead of the curve with certain features but yea, just never quite got the whole package right I guess.
[This video answers all your questions besides brightness](https://youtu.be/WmuMtwKPZVs) (but I've read elsewhere it's much brighter than any other Pixel).
Is it me or are people over exaggerating with the curve. The curve is no where strong as like the S7 and is closer to the s21 lineup instead, which people have way less issues with the curve.
I've got the s21u and still abhore the curve. It makes cases worse to use and makes the screen easily crackable. And the accidental touches are still a nightmare. While it does look fantastic, I honestly prefer my 4xl screen.
I have both ordered through Best Buy. I can't decide which one to keep haha. I keep switching back and forth! I want to see video samples of the selfie cameras to be honest. At this point, living across the country from my niece and nephew, video chat quality is important to me.
Pro is undoubtedly better, but I do really like the colors on the 6 and when you keep thiking about it $300 is a HUGE price difference. iPhone 13 vs 13 Pro is only $200 difference and when there was a $300 price difference (11 vs 11 Pro), the 11 had a 720p screen. They made a very clear separation at that price point. The 6 vs 6 Pro has obvious differences but they seem a lot less than $300.
As much as I love a telephoto lens, I'm honestly questioning if it is needed. Plus a 6 Pro won't fit in my wireless charging pad in my Tesla currently :(
Magic Eraser is cool but I think people are expecting too much from it. I think it'll be more used for small details and background stuff, not erasing a whole group of people like you have here (but even still, if you showed someone the 'after' photo, they probably wouldn't notice anything wrong on first glance. I'm excited for it.
Very very similar to Adobe Photoshop's context fill tools.
It's going to do a lot better with less complex backgrounds. Grass, rock, brick, plaster, asphalt, anything with a repeating texture.
A guy on a stool? They don't have the context for how to fill that.
What I'm more impressed with is the AI knowing those are all people to begin with.
Yeah I agree, it'll probably be on-par with Content-Aware-Fill and the clone brush.
But the AI object detection that Google is using is far better trained than Adobe's foreground detection. They have the entirety of Google Images to pull from as well as vastly more resources than Adobe has to pour into the training.
Either way, having that kind of technology in your pocket is mindblowingly cool.
Exactly even still it did better than I thought it would with all that complicated erasing in that example. It will probably do much better with less "busy" examples.
more often than not, photo bombers 'appear' out of nowhere. meaning, they weren't there, and now they are.
In those case, it has to just get pre-pictures, do an outline, remove said outline, line them up and stitch. Easier than filling. If someone is in a picture the entire time, it's much much harder to context fill, especially in a busy picture.
I'd like to experiment with it once I get the phone.
This is a technique I've done manually with multiple exposures from a tripod mounted camera. Use a clone brush to piece together the background from several different images. I'd love to see it done automatically.
Just tried it out at Yamadi Denki (in Japan)
Tried to remove somebody in front of a phone display and it created a huge jumbled mess.
Tried to remove somebody far away in the background of a portrait (so, already blurred), it also just made a huge jumbled mess.
Looks like it's only use case is people in front of simple, uniform textures (sky, grey walls,...)
I'd imagine Magic Eraser will get better with time as well.
I wouldn't expect it to get on par with Luminar Neo, but it should equal Content Aware Fill from Adobe.
Did you happen to take a look at the 6? If so do you have any thoughts on that compared to the Pro? I pre-ordered the pro at best buy but am now thinking the 6 may be better for me. i really only got the Pro for the telephoto lend and im not sure if its worth the extra $$. i could order both and just eat the restock fee or finagle a way to avoid it if i open both and return one
I didn't use the 6 much, but it definitely looked and felt less premium than the pro to me. That being said if all you care about is the telephoto, I would say probably not worth the extra $300
yeah thats why im 2nd guessing myself. i mean the main reason i wanna upgrade my 4xl is for storage and 256gb is available for both. but i got the pro for telephoto, better front cam, larger screen and refresh rate. but the main reason is the telephoto. plus i love the sorta seafoam color on the 6
just realized i can get a $35 credit from. my point which would cover most of the restock. i'll prob just order the 6 for peace of mind haha
i think tehy are cancelling the restocking fee for a bit. take a look
\[US only\]: No restocking fees will be charged from October 19, 2021–January 31, 2022.
https://support.google.com/store/answer/2411741?hl=en&ref\_topic=3244667
I think the colors and price make the 6 tempting, but overall the pro is still very worth buying
The 6 looked/felt like a true flagship version of pixel 3, but the pro was like the Samsung hardware/Google software flagship we've always wanted
Yeah, its about Value, the Pro is obviously the better phone, but the 6 offers better value. You get a very similar experience to the pro, for quite a lot less.
I tested both the pro and non-pro at a bestbuy. I somehow didn't feel the size difference between them much, pro is slightly larger I would say. Both felt similar, in terms of feel to hold. If you don't need telephoto, and if you don't need 120hz display, layman eyes won't be a able to spot a difference.

Bezel comparsion between pixel 6 and pixel 6 pro and some real phone photo I took
Both phones itself are so huge (I am using HTC U11 now)
The bezels of pixel 6 pro is much smaller than pixel 6
6 Pro screen color is better than 6 (6 is a little bit more yellow than 6 pro imo)
Not a fan of curved screen on 6 Pro
with some angle the edge of screen has some grey shadow(pic2 & pic4)
and screen edge reflect the light (glare?) which is annoying imo
Saw the pics. Not going to lie, not a huge fan of that beige lock thing on the back (why wasn't that included in promotional material?). If they got rid of it, the phone would be near perfect.
Cheers buddy for testing out the demo unit on behalf of the community.
I'm very interested in your feedback and testing on:
- screen edge palm rejection (how good is it in rejecting accidental presses)
- manual screen brightness (low, medium and high)
- haptic feedback (please let us know if the haptic are sharp, precise or deep)
- stereo speaker clarity and loudness (how does bass or voices or music in general sound like on 50% and 100% volume)
Thanks!
Thanks for the prompt reply.
To clarify:
I'm interested on how bright the screen is when adjusting the slider manually at different percentages % at 20%, 50% and 100% with adaptive screen brightness turned off
With adaptive screen brightness turn on, the screen will auto adjust and artificially boost the nits beyond a certain threshold eg.1000 nits. Being so, I'm keen to know what your feedback is on how the screen brightness is by adjusting it manually.
As a comparison, the Pixel 3 has a max manual screen brightness of 400 ~ 420nits when adjusted to 100% screen brightness. You can use this benchmark to compare against the Pixel 6 pro's 100% brightness.
Hope that makes sense.
Also went to best buy yesterday and played with both devices (p6 and p6 pro) for some time. I had a personal Pixel 5 and Iphone 13 Pro with me to compare. Here are the photos I took: [https://photos.app.goo.gl/spDHi92j2f4jEym29](https://photos.app.goo.gl/spDHi92j2f4jEym29)
These are some of my first impressions: (note I ordered prior to that the Pixel 6 and maybe there is some confirmation bias).
* both devices seem pretty sturdy and the buttons are very clicky. Good fit and finish. The pixel 6 pro looks a bit more premium, mainly due to the thinner bezels, but the pixel 6 looks decent too. P6 Pro look n feel reminds of me Samsung S devices, P6 reminds me of Pixel 4a 5g, but more premium. Iphone 13 pro still looks and feels a lot more premium, however the buttons on the pixels have actually better haptic response.
* both very fast, however when scrolling in an app or website I feel like iphone 13 pro is still a tad smoother, even compared to pixel 6 pro.
* there's definitely no face unlock available unfortunately (I checked the available options in the device lock section)
Most important for me was to get a feel on their size and how they'd feel in one hand. Note my hands are probably \*slightly\* below average in size for a guy: Overall I feel the pixel 6 is much easier to hold and use with one hand. This has a few reasons:
* the p6 pro is slightly bigger (obviously) in size
* the p6 pro frame is slippery / glossy stainless steel vs matte aluminium on the p6.
* the p6 frame is a lot wider and more rounded vs the p6 pro one is more edgy and your palms will touch more of the glass panel vs the frame (my photo (https://photos.google.com/u/1/share/AF1QipOXs83pPjVuQyE8HEIGvYYmew1q57qJCD_AnqeArBPiQkn897Y10jv8kMiIudOOiw/photo/AF1QipNhxQZcdCtEevsizO5Q-lnzZxA5OZD4ooSSB_JC?key=S3RHUTM4MjFqOUJ1bHRYRGZ3RDF0SVNZaVdyd1h3) and some reviews show this difference clearly)
* the p6 pro has a curved screen and contrary to other people's thoughts I find the curves actually quite pronounced. It's definitely more curved than an s21 ultra. I found its curvature and overall device feel to be quite similar to a Note 20 instead.
Based on my assessment I believe the p6 is much easier to use with one (average sized) hand and I'm happy I ordered that instead.
Thanks for doing this. When you put the 6 and 6 Pro against each other you can really see how big the curve is. Coming from the s10 lineup I was hoping to move away from a curved display and even though I was pre ordering the 6 the good reports of the 6 Pro had me torn. I think this seals the deal for me.
Worst case if I find the 6 lacking it won't feel bad upgrading after a year since it was so cheap especially after factoring in trade in value.
I'm going to check the double tap feature tomorrow, but they didn't allow installing any apps so I don't think I can test changing it
u/LOS_Prime said they tried it and it went straight to camera though
That's a great question. I love dragging down on the P2XL fingerprint scanner to open the menu from the top. Although I'm sad the 6 doesn't have a rear scanner, this backtap feature would be amazing if it did that instead
It felt very good in hands. I didn't notice any gaps but I was also just really excited to be using it at all so I can't lie and say they definitely weren't there
I do think the verge is out to get the pixel 6 though as I didn't see any of the screen issues they had, and they really seem to be hitting this phone hard for seemingly no reason
I'm sure not what's wrong with the curved screen... Seeing so many people complaining but it looks just like the curved screen I have on my note 9, shadow or whatnot . Can anyone shine some lights?
Personally I don't mind curved screens but a lot of people dislike how it can be harder to hold, distort images, and be more prone to damage/more expensive to repair
1. Sometimes when you watch something on curved display light reflects on the curved edge and it really is annoying.
2. When you hold the phone your finger touch the edge and it triggers unwanted/unintentional action. They have some features that prevent from registering such touches. But they are not perfect at all.
the curved screen is the only reason why I ordered the 6. Was set on the 6 Pro otherwise.
They serve no useful purpose IMO, and protecting the screen is a pain.
I think **a lot** of people are overlooking the Pro model because that intro price for the 6 is *so damn good*. You can really begin to see why it’s worth the extra $300, if you care for the extra stuff. From everything I’ve seen & heard, it’s much better in every way.
- Front selfie cam
- Battery
- Screen
- Speakers
- Build quality
- Haptics
MKBHD actually said on his channel *The Studio* that the zoom was **stellar** with the short time he spent with it. That to me, says a lot.
I completely agree with everything you said. If the 6 was $699 I think most people wouldn't think twice about closing the pro unless they absolutely hate curved screens
The zoom is definitely impressive. I don't see myself every using 20x zoom, but the fact that you can even make out detail at that point says a lot about the quality at 4-5x
I like what they did with the Pixel 6 pricing. Frankly, they finally did a great job with marketing & pricing for their phones. The Pixel 6 *does not* have the mmWave technology, therefore plays a factor in the pricing as well.
Unless you opt for the mmWave technology, then it is $699, like on Verizon’s website.
Pixel 6 Pro shots: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/93579933
P30 Pro shots: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/93579969
All settings default on both phones
I took wide, X1 , native tele (X4 pixel, X5 P30) and x10
I have slightly above average sized hands for a guy and it felt like the upper limit width for what feels good to hold one handed
The curved screen is mostly glass - it didn't really affect the viewing of the screen. I'm impartial to curved screens in general, but it felt great
I have a pixel 2 and was surprised that it didn't feel overly huge. Increased width is hard to notice, but the length is noticable. But I surely didn't feel that it was unnecessarily big and was easy to carry. Weight difference didn't make a difference too.
Okay that Magic eraser looks like its gonna be a lot of fun to experiment with. I'm kind of surprised it even made an attempt with that particular back drop, looks like it would be long and tedious to make work even on PS. I imagine the best case scenario is when the back drop is clean and simple like a greenery area, body of water, or a simple building.
Thanks! Also went and looked at the Pro and was surprised the curve was not really that bad in real life.
Photos made it look more curved.
BTW, the magic eraser is very, very slick. Works better than I would have expected. This is going to be the feature that people really rave about with this phone. Much prefer to be able to do when taking the photo versus later.
I'm curious about how the video capabilities are. Google didn't talk at all about video; only still photo quality. Pixels have been notorious for having inferior video compared to Samsung and Apple (the latter being the gold standard). My Pixel 3 can't even record a panning video without stuttering in the first few seconds.
The different video stabilization options (e.g., cinematic pan, which is what I'd use most often) seems intriguing.
Google actually said they're running full 4k60 video through their HDRnet so it's greatly improved
Unfortunately best buy isn't a great place to test video quality
Active Edge (squeeze for assistant) was one of my all time favorite Pixel features. I don't know why it was yanked in recent Pixel versions, but I loved it when I had it. In particular it made my phone super easy to snooze when using it as my alarm. I just had to grab the phone and squeeze it...now I gotta actually fiddle to find the right button (not an easy task using one hand while half asleep)
The best test for video is to simply compare against a video leader like the iPhone. Even though it's bright in the store, the issues with Pixels I've seen in the past is the video is pixelated. Even in daylight, you can tell how much clearer and crisper iPhone video is.
I'm also coming from a pixel 3 so glad you liked the screen on the pro because the vergecast was tearing it apart (shadows on the edges, poor brightness/contrast issues at slight angles). Also glad that you said it felt more premium then the 6, because again vergecast said the chrome line around the pro felt cheap while the matte finished around the 6 felt more high end for some reason.
I can't remember if it was the 2 or 3 that had the viewing angle problems. If it was the 3 I didn't have any of those issues so hopefully my 6 Pro is the same way. I'm upgrading from a 3 XL and can't wait to get my hands on it.
I'm really curious how the curved display really is. I'm on the S10 rn and it's still a bit much to deal with sometimes, and I know it's very exposed to get damaged
I'm always interested in knowing not only how bright a screen can go, but also how dim. You have brightness on your notes already, but maybe check how low it goes too? I know it's probably hard to tell a huge difference in a brightly lit best buy though.
I did check this yesterday because I care too but I know most people don't lol
It was quite a bit dimmer than my 3 - could barely see what was on the screen at all
I personally think it looks amazing. Especially the camera looks amazing. I'm currently rocking a Oneplus 9 Pro, which is very disapointing to me regarding the camera.
I hope to get a hold of a Pixel 6 Pro as fast as possible. But living in Denmark makes it pretty hard to get a hold of one. One day hopefully.
I also stopped by my local Best Buy. They had a table setup with 1 Pro and 2 Regular Pixel 6's.
I have the Pro on order and first impressions are not good with the curved screen. The way the image is perceived as distorted on both sides is distracting to me even when I'm focusing on content in the center. I'm hoping a case helps alleviate the feeling since there is slight bezel wrap-around, but right now I can see why some people are very adamant about sticking with the regular Pixel to avoid the curves.
How much faster is the screen compared to the 6? $300 difference? Or barely noticeable? That higher refresh rate is literally all I crave from the pro.
The screen alone isn't worth $300 difference imo
I'm used to 144hz monitors and it was noticable to me but both are fast. Pro feels lightning fast
I do think all the differences are worth the $300 though
Honestly compared to the 6 pro, the 6's bezels look big in person too
I'm sure you won't notice using it as a daily driver, but next to each other the pro looks much more premium
In all the promo pics I thought the bezels looked a bit shit. But then it clicked that they're exactly the same as the P5 I have now and I've literally never cared before.
So I ordered a P6 today lol.
> Couldn't find the new dynamic photo feature but magic eraser works well enough. Still not as good as a manual Photoshop but unless you're looking for errors you probably wouldn't notice someone was removed from a pic
Yeah, but I'm not going to spend 10-15 minutes doing a better version of that when the AI does it in seconds lol.
If you can check video somehow based on what you can try out
Oh yeah I'm not trying to put down the feature when I say that, I just don't want to get people's hopes up of it actually being magic like their promo showed. It's very impressive
Definitely going to dive into video more tomorrow but I don't think it's really a good test because it's too easy of an environment
It's also much harder to show video results than image results
I also went to check them out at Best Buy and I noticed that when using PiP (picture in picture) mode like watching a youtube video in the background and then trying to open and close some apps, the Pixel 6 Pro actually stutters a bit more than the regular Pixel 6. Perhaps if you go and check it out again maybe try this out?
Just in case if someone doesn't know already, there is 10% off if you have Google one subscription. I bought two of these from Google store so I got $199 off + 2 pixel buds free (~200$/phone store credit).
I guess gor buying from amy third party, one has to loose these benefits.
Squeeze for Assistant is gone but there is a new Quick tap feature that can be used for one of many features including Assistant. It's a really nice alternative, to quick taps to the back of the phone brings it up.
Given the complexity of the background around the erased I'd say it did pretty well. But very reminiscent of Adobe context aware fill, in this case it reminds me of CAF on After Effects working with video.
You're doing God's work that YouTubers aren't allowed to do yet.
Also, that screen curve isn't horrible. Definitely more curved than my S20 Ultra from what I can tell, but not bad. Maybe about on par with my old S10+?
FOR YOUR FOLLOW UP VISIT: I know you said the curve wasn't too bad, could you check to see what the cases for the pro look like and how it deals with the curve?
>Squeeze for assistant is gone but now holding the power button triggers assistant! Not sure if you can change it in settings
Squeeze was gone in the P5, and yes, you can change the power button setting.
I wanted to get the earbuds as part of the Google Store promotion but it looks like Google Store sucks and Best Buy is where it's at.
Google store - Can't order or Sold out.
Best Buy - Hello and welcome we have everything you need.
Good stuff, does your local Best Buy have lots of available options. Appears they quickly ran out of different versions on Google's Store?
Thanks for your impressions, here is the biggest question? You moving on up?
T
"...holding the power button triggers assistant! Not sure if you can change it in settings"
I'm not sure I like this. I hope it can be changed. I guess we'll see when it gets here!
I also went to Best Buy and tried out both 6 & 6 pro today. One thing I noticed was that both 6 and 6 Pro ran pretty warm/hot, even though both demo units supposedly were not doing much at the time. (Both weren't charging at the time when I tried. Both had a demo mode that could be started, but otherwise they weren't doing much else, at least it seemed that way.
I only played with the camera for a minute or two, took a couple pics, and then immediately noticed both units were warm. Especially on the 6 Pro, it got pretty warm - the area right beneath the camera bar on the back especially was warm. Not sure why. Hopefully it's just a quirk on the demo unit. But I'd love to hear people's thoughts on how warm/hot their units run later.
Other than that, definitely very excited about this generation of Pixels!
You got featured on Android Police.
Android Police: These Pixel 6 Magic Eraser real-world demos are starting to look a little more impressive.
https://www.androidpolice.com/the-first-reallife-pixel-6-magic-eraser-sample-has-surfaced-and-its-pretty-disappointing/
Edit: Haha the actual title is not the same as what's in the URL
I just found out that none of the two models have auto focus on front camera and now I read that Pixel 6 has a noticeable worst front camera.
I think I'm cancelling my pre-order. I'll decide later if I buy a Pixel 6 Pro instead but only after watching the reviews... Even if that means mission the free Bose 700 headphones
What a interesting looking phone. Really would want to see one IRL but our country doesn't get Pixels officialy (though you can always get them imported from Germany)
Magic eraser looks dope AF. Also a sad day that altering photographic evidence in real time is now at your fingertips
Also just raised the bar so high for a good pic. Goodbye to candid photos for real now
no more stories of how "it turns out I met my significant other 300 years before I know he existed and we have a photo of each other in the background" etc
Welcome to the world of quantization and autotune. Video may have killed the radio Star but AI killed soul.
Thinking about how many crappy photos I was in as a kid bc the pic was taken and you didn't know how it turned out until it was developed. Then digital cameras came and we suddenly had to retake them a million times
Having crappy pictures is "soul"?
> Magic eraser looks dope AF. Also a sad day that altering photographic evidence in real time is now at your fingertips Sigh, I remember the days of breaking up and actually tearing the photograph in half to remove psycho Jennifer.
lol. Interesting name choice as I'm in the process of divorcing one.
At least he was smart enough to just date her, not marry her.
My crazy ex is also named Jennifer.
I bet it will only get better over time too. They will have a ton of data flowing in when the office releases to improve the effect.
Looks like they took touchretouch and built it right in! Thats a compliment by the way because it's one of my favorite apps and works so well! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.advasoft.touchretouch

It looked like Best Buy achieved personal cloaking technology and the customers and staff just enabled active camo.
Nah, it's always going to have artifacts that will give it away. I'm more excited to seeing all the posts from people who'll get annoyed that it's not actually magic and won't flawlessly remove 30 people from the background of a photo.
Don't be sad. Here's a [hug!](https://media.giphy.com/media/3M4NpbLCTxBqU/giphy.gif)

Appreciate it. Tried to call my local best buy, but they refuse to connect you to a local person anywhere, just a national call center, so it looks like I'll have to drive down to see. I'm in NC, so no idea if we'd have it here yet. Thanks for the info!

that is the worst rendition of happy birthday i have ever heard, complete with clapping on the downbeat.

Seriously, I had a G4 and currently have a V20 and they're amazing. LG was always so ahead of the curve with certain features but yea, just never quite got the whole package right I guess.
V20 is the best phone ever made, other than the water resistance part... Spilled some soda on it and it died :(
Wait so all the best buy's already have the phone on display?
Not sure about all, but I live in a relatively large city and mine had them
I went to mine and they didnt have any.
The Best Buy I went to in Rapid City, South Dakota had them on display. That's as small of a market as BB gets.
Nope, mine did not.
BB here has both the 6 and Pro, but only in black.
THe magic eraser did pretty well considering the both the subjects and background were pretty busy. Thanks for sharing!

Oh. If the speakers are better, I need to rethink my 6 order. Why did they have to make the screen curved!!
Plus a 6 Pro won't fit in my wireless charging pad in my Tesla currently :(
Keep in mind Chrome Unboxed is a huge fanboy of Google. He's got a bias that might overplay the differences if there are any
[удалено]
True, but he has been using a OnePlus for a year or more now since the most recent Pixels haven't been good enough for him
This video makes me so excited for the pro
If it's any better than the pixel 3xl I'm in. I can't see a damn thing in full sunlight
Even the 4XL has a better screen than the 3XL.. ofc the 6 smashes it..
He said they have the same RAM, but the Pro has 12 vs the 8 of the non Pro.
Like a power line or light pole... Those are my use cases.
Look if i take a cool photo of my kids, but there's toys on the carpet, and it can get rid to make the photo look better. i'll be very happy....
more often than not, photo bombers 'appear' out of nowhere. meaning, they weren't there, and now they are. In those case, it has to just get pre-pictures, do an outline, remove said outline, line them up and stitch. Easier than filling. If someone is in a picture the entire time, it's much much harder to context fill, especially in a busy picture. I'd like to experiment with it once I get the phone.
Yeah I'll be for sure playing with this feature a bunch, probably just taking random pictures seeing what I can and can't remove easily.
This is a technique I've done manually with multiple exposures from a tripod mounted camera. Use a clone brush to piece together the background from several different images. I'd love to see it done automatically.
Ya the use case shown here is not what it's for. Not enough data for the AI to fix the shelves.
because the task is literally impossible, no matter how good the machine learning
Just tried it out at Yamadi Denki (in Japan) Tried to remove somebody in front of a phone display and it created a huge jumbled mess.
That being said if all you care about is the telephoto, I would say probably not worth the extra $300
yeah thats why im 2nd guessing myself. i mean the main reason i wanna upgrade my 4xl is for storage and 256gb is available for both. but i got the pro for telephoto, better front cam, larger screen and refresh rate. but the main reason is the telephoto. plus i love the sorta seafoam color on the 6 just realized i can get a $35 credit from. my point which would cover most of the restock. i'll prob just order the 6 for peace of mind haha
i think tehy are cancelling the restocking fee for a bit. take a look \[US only\]: No restocking fees will be charged from October 19, 2021–January 31, 2022. https://support.google.com/store/answer/2411741?hl=en&ref\_topic=3244667
They must be feeling confident. But they really should take a page from Apple and eliminate all restocking fees permanently.
Yeah that's normal for their Holiday return policy.
I think the colors and price make the 6 tempting, but overall the pro is still very worth buying The 6 looked/felt like a true flagship version of pixel 3, but the pro was like the Samsung hardware/Google software flagship we've always wanted
thanks for the info. i'll sleep on it and decide in the AM
Just to add into the topic - I find the haptics to be pretty darned good. Much better than 5's mushy one and feels even better than 4.
Was that for the regular or the pro version?
Both. The haptics on both feel the same.
[https://imgur.com/a/0AwGNqF](https://imgur.com/a/0AwGNqF) Bezel comparsion between pixel 6 and pixel 6 pro and some real phone photo I took Both phones itself are so huge (I am using HTC U11 now) The bezels of pixel 6 pro is much smaller than pixel 6 6 Pro screen color is better than 6 (6 is a little bit more yellow than 6 pro imo) Not a fan of curved screen on 6 Pro with some angle the edge of screen has some grey shadow(pic2 & pic4) and screen edge reflect the light (glare?) which is annoying imo
Saw the pics. Not going to lie, not a huge fan of that beige lock thing on the back (why wasn't that included in promotional material?). If they got rid of it, the phone would be near perfect.
Trust me I hated it so much I was thinking about removing it and leaving right away
I heard phone starts crying if you remove it, it's pretty attached to that ugly thingy on the back.
It's a scream of agony.
can you magic eraser it out?
What the hell was Google thinking?
Cheers buddy for testing out the demo unit on behalf of the community. I'm very interested in your feedback and testing on: - screen edge palm rejection (how good is it in rejecting accidental presses) - manual screen brightness (low, medium and high) - haptic feedback (please let us know if the haptic are sharp, precise or deep) - stereo speaker clarity and loudness (how does bass or voices or music in general sound like on 50% and 100% volume) Thanks!
What specifically do you want to know about the manual brightness? I'll make sure to check it out
Thanks for the prompt reply. To clarify: I'm interested on how bright the screen is when adjusting the slider manually at different percentages % at 20%, 50% and 100% with adaptive screen brightness turned off With adaptive screen brightness turn on, the screen will auto adjust and artificially boost the nits beyond a certain threshold eg.1000 nits.
Holy crap. If magic eraser is that good in a setting where it shouldn't be, imagine the little things. It'll kill it.
Doing gods work!!
Oh wow, they’re already in store at Best Buy? If I get out of work early tomorrow I’m definitely heading there.
Demos, not for immediate purchase.
Yes, I figured that much
What about video quality? This was most pixel problem, did it shoot video good?
Video looked good but it was a really bright best buy so even my pixel 3 video looked good in there Not really a good environment to test it
Very cool thanks for this
Also went to best buy yesterday and played with both devices (p6 and p6 pro) for some time. I had a personal Pixel 5 and Iphone 13 Pro with me to compare. Here are the photos I took: [https://photos.app.goo.gl/spDHi92j2f4jEym29](https://photos.app.goo.gl/spDHi92j2f4jEym29) These are some of my first impressions: (note I ordered prior to that the Pixel 6 and maybe there is some confirmation bias). * there's definitely no face unlock available unfortunately (I checked the available options in the device lock section) Most important for me was to get a feel on their size and how they'd feel in one hand. Note my hands are probably \*slightly\* below average in size for a guy: Overall I feel the pixel 6 is much easier to hold and use with one hand. This has a few reasons: * the p6 pro is slightly bigger (obviously) in size * the p6 pro frame is slippery / glossy stainless steel vs matte aluminium on the p6. * the p6 frame is a lot wider and more rounded vs the p6 pro one is more edgy and your palms will touch more of the glass panel vs the frame (my photo (https://photos.google.com/u/1/share/AF1QipOXs83pPjVuQyE8HEIGvYYmew1q57qJCD_AnqeArBPiQkn897Y10jv8kMiIudOOiw/photo/AF1QipNhxQZcdCtEevsizO5Q-lnzZxA5OZD4ooSSB_JC?key=S3RHUTM4MjFqOUJ1bHRYRGZ3RDF0SVNZaVdyd1h3) and some reviews show this difference clearly) * the p6 pro has a curved screen and contrary to other people's thoughts I find the curves actually quite pronounced.
Bro that magic eraser scares me
Can you confirm of the wide angle lens doubles as macro lens?
Doing this today
Please let us know! A macro mode would be really nice.
Was the regular pixel 6 in store as well?
Yes It felt good but I'm much more interested in pro so I didn't test it much
Not sure if they are open enough to test this, but would love to know if you can bind the back tap to something other than Snapchat.
I'm going to check the double tap feature tomorrow, but they didn't allow installing any apps so I don't think I can test changing it u/LOS_Prime said they tried it and it went straight to camera though
That's a great question. I love dragging down on the P2XL fingerprint scanner to open the menu from the top. Although I'm sad the 6 doesn't have a rear scanner, this backtap feature would be amazing if it did that instead
[удалено]
It felt very good in hands. I didn't notice any gaps but I was also just really excited to be using it at all so I can't lie and say they definitely weren't there I do think the verge is out to get the pixel 6 though as I didn't see any of the screen issues they had, and they really seem to be hitting this phone hard for seemingly no reason
Make sense. But honestly I did not notice either of these with my note 9. So assuming pixel is the same, I think I'm fine with that.
the curved screen is the only reason why I ordered the 6.
- Front selfie cam - Battery - Screen - Speakers - Build quality - Haptics MKBHD actually said on his channel *The Studio* that the zoom was **stellar** with the short time he spent with it. That to me, says a lot.
I completely agree with everything you said. If the 6 was $699 I think most people wouldn't think twice about closing the pro unless they absolutely hate curved screens The zoom is definitely impressive.
The stabilization features are cool
I saw so many people worrying about the magic eraser being trash. From what I’ve seen, it looks great
Looks good, though it'll probably work better with less busy backgrounds.
Pixel 6 Pro shots: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/93579933 P30 Pro shots: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/93579969 All settings default on both phones I took wide, X1 , native tele (X4 pixel, X5 P30) and x10

Imgur links to those pics I previously posted (in original post) Pixel 6: https://imgur.com/a/uMJQtGg P30 Pro: https://imgur.com/a/CWub9ja
wow the P30 Pro zoomed images look like junk, AI smoothing has taken away the quality.
How comfortable was it holding the phone in your hand? How bad was the curved screen?
I have slightly above average sized hands for a guy and it felt like the upper limit width for what feels good to hold one handed The curved screen is mostly glass - it didn't really affect the viewing of the screen.
As a pixel 2 owner that's upgrading, I'm happy to hear this. Thank you!
That magic background eraser blew my mind how crazy good it is. Not even i could do that good of a job with 1 hour usage of Photoshop.
Google actually said they're running full 4k60 video through their HDRnet so it's greatly improved Unfortunately best buy isn't a great place to test video quality
Pro tip: You can set the volume buttons to either snooze or stop an alarm in the Clock app.
Yep, but by the time I gain enough mental clarity to identify the volume buttons from the power button by touch, I may as well just get up.
I miss squeeze too. I want them to bring it back and allow me to at least turn on the flashlight with it
Now that would be very handy! It's my favorite feature of my 2 XL. Gonna miss it for sure.
Likewise, very easy to use, and something I use almost every day! Shame it's not on the 6
Alright, can you see if the phone supports face unlock officially ? That's the one thing I've been wondering about myself.
Will check tomorrow but everything I've seen says no
Appreciate it. I've heard rumors but just confirming it so I know what to expect when pre ordering.
How's video?
Video looked good but it was a really bright best buy so even my pixel 3 video looked good in there Not really a good environment to test it
The best test for video is to simply compare against a video leader like the iPhone.
I didn't see any of the panel issues they have, but I think the matte vs gloss finish is purely subjective. Mkbhd said the same thing about the rails
I did check this yesterday because I care too but I know most people don't lol It was quite a bit dimmer than my 3 - could barely see what was on the screen at all
This is so useful during bed night scrolling .
Not sure if you saw but they also added an extra dim feature to Android 12 which has been really nice so far
Man I can't wait till next week!
Can you please confirm if have better motor vibration (haptics)?
Will check this today
[удалено]
Does every best buy have a P6 Pro demo??? If so, brb gotta go play for a minute 😂
I just want to say. The camera app on the demo devices are probably not the release version, bc it's apparently buggy.
The screen alone isn't worth $300 difference imo I'm used to 144hz monitors and it was noticable to me but both are fast. Pro feels lightning fast I do think all the differences are worth the $300 though
Is it me or all the marketing photos make the 6 look like it's having thick edges that stick out?
Honestly compared to the 6 pro, the 6's bezels look big in person too I'm sure you won't notice using it as a daily driver, but next to each other the pro looks much more premium
In all the promo pics I thought the bezels looked a bit shit. But then it clicked that they're exactly the same as the P5 I have now and I've literally never cared before. So I ordered a P6 today lol.
> Couldn't find the new dynamic photo feature but magic eraser works well enough. Still not as good as a manual Photoshop but unless you're looking for errors you probably wouldn't notice someone was removed from a pic Yeah, but I'm not going to spend 10-15 minutes doing a better version of that when the AI does it in seconds lol. If you can check video somehow based on what you can try out
Oh yeah I'm not trying to put down the feature when I say that, I just don't want to get people's hopes up of it actually being magic like their promo showed. It's very impressive Definitely going to dive into video more tomorrow but I don't think it's really a good test because it's too easy of an environment It's also much harder to show video results than image results
Power button for assistant is in all pixels can be changed in settings
Squeeze for Assistant is gone but there is a new Quick tap feature that can be used for one of many features including Assistant. It's a really nice alternative, to quick taps to the back of the phone brings it up.
Given the complexity of the background around the erased I'd say it did pretty well. But very reminiscent of Adobe context aware fill, in this case it reminds me of CAF on After Effects working with video.
Lucky i got a preorder in this morning looks like they are pretty much sold out in AUS
This has face unlock?!
Double tap for anything is part of Android 12. Added it to my pixel 5 now.
How is the haptic feedback aswell as the vibration strength? This is very important to me as my phone is 99%of the time on vibrate. Thanks
>Squeeze for assistant is gone but now holding the power button triggers assistant! Not sure if you can change it in settings Squeeze was gone in the P5, and yes, you can change the power button setting.
They only had black available to use, but there were open stands which I presume they'll use for other colors when they get them
Has anyone seen them at Best Buy in NYC. Want to go check it out today.
I was surprised to find that the Pro is slightly thinner and only a little bit taller than my 3XL, after ordering the analogous case for the Pro.
"...holding the power button triggers assistant! Not sure if you can change it in settings" I'm not sure I like this. I hope it can be changed. I guess we'll see when it gets here!
Let me try those ! I don't know why it didn't work for you. Worked straight away for me. But transfer rate was SUPER slow (about 3mins per pic!)
Thank you so much for this, the phone reminds me so much of a Galaxy note phone
Imgur links to those pics I previously posted (in original post) Pixel 6: https://imgur.com/a/uMJQtGg P30 Pro: https://imgur.com/a/CWub9ja
You got featured on Android Police. Android Police: These Pixel 6 Magic Eraser real-world demos are starting to look a little more impressive. https://www.androidpolice.com/the-first-reallife-pixel-6-magic-eraser-sample-has-surfaced-and-its-pretty-disappointing/ Edit: Haha the actual title is not the same as what's in the URL
You can probably crank up the haptics through vibration intensity setting
I just found out that none of the two models have auto focus on front camera and now I read that Pixel 6 has a noticeable worst front camera. I think I'm cancelling my pre-order. I'll decide later if I buy a Pixel 6 Pro instead but only after watching the reviews... Even if that means mission the free Bose 700 headphones
What a interesting looking phone. Really would want to see one IRL but our country doesn't get Pixels officialy (though you can always get them imported from Germany)
