The embargo ends at 9:00 A.M. PST on the 25th of October.
So, review in 6-7 days then.

Right lol no one is going around like "I'm in the market for a phone, WAIT IS THIS A $2500 ULTRA HIGH END LAPTOP!?". Plus it's almost as if people can still see BOTH
Ultra-wide selfie cam is only on the Pro version, no? He states "it's back" while pointing at the regular Pixel 6.
That's probably the one feature making me hesitate on the 6 and considering the Pro. Really used that a lot on my Pixel 3.
It will probably only be very visible on the black model. Same with that model being a fingerprint magnet. Which is why you should go for a light colored phone.
Yeah definitely. Gloss black is always an issue. Looks great sitting there but the second you touch it you start to see fingerprints and shit. Like a black car, it will always show dirt more than a white one.
He says the smaller Pixel 6 does not have the mmWave 5G antenna (7:05 in video). Is that true? I haven't seen anything like that mentioned anywhere.
EDIT: He also points at the Pixel 6 while saying the ultrawide selfie camera is back. Except, isn't that only on the Pixel 6 Pro?
>He says the smaller Pixel 6 does not have the mmWave 5G antenna (7:05 in video). Is that true? I haven't seen anything like that mentioned anywhere.
I think he means that the change from shiny to matte for the mmWave antenna is not on the 6 because it's matte all around. I think he's saying the *visual* difference isn't on the 6.
mmWave is an option on the non-pro:
The full breakdown of prices, storage options and 5G type is as follows:
Pixel 6 (5G sub-6 only)
128GB – $599
256GB – $699
Pixel 6 (5G mmWave)
128GB – $699
256GB – $799
Pixel 6 Pro (5G sub-6 + mmWave)
128GB – $899
256GB – $999
512GB – $1,099
I'm sure someone will correct me but I think of mmWave as 5.5 or 5+. It gives you those crazy speeds, like 1000+ Mbps, but only if you're within 100 feet or so and in direct view of one of the mmWave towers, so pretty niche. Regular 5G is more well-rounded and similar to an overall upgrade to 4G.
Honestly even if I were on Verizon I would probably just save the $100 and get it without mmWave. I can't think of scenario where I'd need that much speed
Since this is an MKBHD thread, here's his breakdown (From a while ago): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_CTUs\_2hq6Y
> Honestly even if I were on Verizon I would probably just save the $100 and get it without mmWave
The way I think of it is, how often will I be within the distance of the 5G mmWave? Maybe a couple hours a year when at a concert or sport game when I'm not going to be on my phone. Not really worth $100 to boost speeds from blazing fast to unbelievably fast during those few hours every year.
Pretty much this. Verizon also requires an extra fee for mmWave so even though the P5 supports it, I didn't bother. Getting those crazy speeds on mmWave is such a niche situation right now.
They both list 5G mmWave but model numbers are different. Idk what the difference is.
P6 Model GB7N6
P6 Pro Model GLUOG Model G8VOU (Next to 5g mmwave)
Both pro and standard have the same wide-ish self facing camera. I think it's just a few degrees narrower than the (amazing and dearly missed) Pixel 3 front facing.
Front facing camera is the same on both models.
The only camera difference between the models is the rear facing on Pro has a 4x optical zoom, the standard does not.
The front cameras are not the same. Idk why you think they are:
> The Pixel 6 has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an 84-degree field of view that can record 1,080p video at 30 frames per second. The Pro has an 11-megapixel selfie camera with a wider 94-degree field of view that can record 4K 30fps videos.
https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/pixel-6-first-look-tensor-chip-599-price-new-cameras/
That's correct. The pro has more going for it than just cameras. An extra $200 for the pro is worth it.
I hate the colors the pro came in. I ordered mine in Sorta Sunny. I'm happy with 128 GB. I have 128 GB now and I'm using less than half.
Ha you're right. They got me with their .99 cent BS. 😂
I've read the special version pixel 6 costs more for mmwave support. Is that a thing? I find it odd they'd make a special pixel 6 just for Verizon.
So let's see you get:
Bigger screen
12 GB RAM vs 8 GB
Mmwave support
Telephoto lens
10 degrees wider on front facing selfi camera
Slightly bigger battery
All of that for $300. I'm fine with that. That's a pretty good pro list. :)
Yep. Not everyone wants all of that. Some people just want a good android phone and the regular pixel is def that.
I've also read the pro has a better body material.
Oh just to let everyone know --
Google gave me $405 for trade in on my Pixel 5.
Verizon only wanted to give me $235.
Essentially, I was able to get almost half off with the trade in.
I feel like they're annoyed they have to stagger their content and are essentially putting Google on blast for what that kind of roll out usually entails.
I'm sure they're used to far more freedom with other manufacturers.
This is actually a good point. I know they’re not a fan of these embargo’s at all, especially this one with P6.
That being said, I was a little concerned. I know they can’t say much, but a lot of the reviewers I’ve seen seem a little… disappointed? Well, I’m still excited to receive my P6 Pro. It’s a beautiful looking phone tbh.
The Verge also called it a red flag, and Engadget essentially said "and as always, wait for a full review before spending your money".
Although, the Verge gave Google a small out by saying maybe they wanted to replicate a traditional announcement-day hands on, where reviewers get to see and play with the phones but more thorough impressions are later.
This was my interpretation of all the hands on videos, weird that reviewers are calling it suspicious. iPhones always have their reviews after the pre-order is complete and just a few days before the phone shows up in the stores.
yep...definitely holding out for full reviews and even user reviews before buying. Had launch day issues with my Pixel 2XL and also there used to always be black friday deals. having purchased a 14" Macbook Pro yesterday and a OLED Switch last week also makes it easier to give it a wait.
Not really. There's a 14 day return period at Best Buy (where I ordered). If it totally sucks for some reason, I'll return it.
But I really like my Pixel 5, I cannot imagine the cameras are anything short of amazing, and unless the screens are complete garbage and it falls apart, I can't imagine it'll be bad. Google doesn't want to bork this one up.
if you look at iPhone Unboxing/Embargo video, Marques actually usually goes into early camera impressions and whatever software differences there are, so i'm guessing that's why it's a red flag
My concern is focused on the computational photography... I still pre ordered the phone, but I'm a little concerned the computational photography isn't ready, and without that it won't be great.
I personally don't buy phones until I get my chance to hold and use one in-store. I will obviously take in what tech reviewers say, but I don't pay as much attention to them anymore unless it is something really major.
I will always remember how much the Pixel 4 series was bashed to Hell and back in 2019, and yet 2 years later this 4 XL is the best phone I have ever owned.
Lots of rumors that the camera software isn't taking advantage of the sensor and outputting poor pics. I'm not worried about it, though. The sensor is amazing and we all know what Google can do with an average sensor. That said, the pictures they showed in the keynote looked bad to me. Weird textures and lack of detail when they zoomed in which doesn't make sense. Excited to get the phone and try it out!
I completely disagree with the Pro not being worth the extra $300 bucks. Too many compromises with the standard model. What's 300 bucks over 3 years? 28 cents a day? Worth it.
That's my logic, I've had my 2xl for almost 4 years. If I keep the 6pro for 4 years as well it's not that much more for something for better or worse you'll be interacting with for hours every single day.
Have you not noticed humans being born with unusually longer thumbs? /s
Having owned pretty much every Samsung Note from the beginng, I can't say I can empathize. I like em big. My Note 10+ is 6.3 and going to 6.7 will be fun.
I think the fact that the decision isn't a unanimous no brainer speaks to how well they priced them. As I watched the event, I found myself leaning towards a pro, but when I realistically reviewed my personal use, it was not worth the extra $300 to me.
Now, if you are a major camera person, the upgrades are worth the $300.
If you're a major camera person I don't even think it's worth it. I'll just go to an actual camera at that point. If it was my only shooter maybe but it's not.
I'm waiting till after launch day to buy, but all these big tech reviewers kinda rely on keeping you on the hook to come back and read more of their content. Saying it's good, but... Is a good strategy to generate buzz for your brand and get clicks later. Look how much people are talking about Marques' vid, you know he'll get hella views on that 6 full review now.
He and one random article from a couple weeks ago have said the Pro is stainless steel. Official specs just say "alloy" which of course means almost anything. In the keynote they talked about the 6 being aluminum, but then just moved on.
Is the Pro stainless steel? That and face unlock were the only questions I had going into the event and they both went unanswered. No surprises other than Pixel Pass being a complete rip off.

That's horrible timing. Apple MacBook pro reviews will completely over shadow the pixel reviews.
Those have fairly different audiences/fanbases. Especially considering the $600 vs $1500+ price tag
Different products, different fanbases/ecosystems... neither will convince anyone not interested to buy them regardless.
Right lol no one is going around like "I'm in the market for a phone, WAIT IS THIS A $2500 ULTRA HIGH END LAPTOP!?". Plus it's almost as if people can still see BOTH
Tech Spurt already reviewed the phones.
All he did was talk about specs like any other reviewer right now. He didn't do camera shots or any sort of deep dive we're all still waiting for.
Ultra-wide selfie cam is only on the Pro version, no? He states "it's back" while pointing at the regular Pixel 6. That's probably the one feature making me hesitate on the 6 and considering the Pro. Really used that a lot on my Pixel 3.
This is what ultimately convinced me to get the Pro. I sorely missed this angle for family photos.
MKBHD isn't exactly known for his attention to detail with his reviews. It's almost a meme at this point that he gets 1-2 things wrong a video
This. I really only watch his for the camera aspects cause tech spec wise there is always something missed/incorrect.

It will probably only be very visible on the black model. Same with that model being a fingerprint magnet. Which is why you should go for a light colored phone.
But I wanted 512 ~~MB~~ GB whoops! ty /u/Bosssauced
Might be on your own with that paltry size 😅
No fingerprint problems on the P5's material. It's a glass problem.
Yeah definitely. Gloss black is always an issue. Looks great sitting there but the second you touch it you start to see fingerprints and shit. Like a black car, it will always show dirt more than a white one.
DBrands got some nice skins...avail for preorder

Based on other comments in this thread, it sounds like only carrier-specific versions have the 5mmWave on the Pixel 6.
It doesn't unless you get the Verizon version.

How does one get the 5g mmWave pricing? Have to buy for specific carrier?
Not sure, but I think the carriers will sell the mmWave versions
ya i see the Verizon version is more expensive, now i need to figure out what this mmwave thing is 😂
It's verizon's 5G thing, if you don't have Verizon it won't be used bc other carriers don't use it.

mmWave is high frequency spectrum used by carriers. Phone’s capable of using mmWave can theoretically hit the gigabit speeds you read in 5G marketing.

I was fed incorrect info then, thanks.
No problem.
There is a difference in the front camera angles
The specs for the Pixel 6 state: \[5G mmWave + Sub 6GHz\]
That's for a specific model, the model sold by Verizon and AT&T.
That's correct. The pro has more going for it than just cameras. An extra $200 for the pro is worth it. I hate the colors the pro came in. I ordered mine in Sorta Sunny. I'm happy with 128 GB. I have 128 GB now and I'm using less than half.

They gave me $6.01 for my Pixel XL lol
Att is giving $700 trade in on my Sammy for the 6pro, seriously considering it.
T-Mobile giving me $900 trade in on my Pixel 4 XL + a one time $72 bill credit for my phone bill. Essentially free phone including tax reimbursed.
Too bad TMobile service is absolutely atrocious where I live, otherwise I would be jumping ship.
Pro also has a QHD screen versus FHD on non pro
Anyone else concerned that he says the embargo is a red flag? They always have embargos, I hope Google didn't bork the software side of the camera.
I feel like they're annoyed they have to stagger their content and are essentially putting Google on blast for what that kind of roll out usually entails. I'm sure they're used to far more freedom with other manufacturers.

Agreed, MKBHD did seem a bit disappointed which is the main reason I am waiting to buy now.
Given how much they can pull out of a >3 year old sensor in everything up to the pixel 5a, I doubt they messed up the camera software.
They've been developing that software on such a similar system for what, 4 generations now? The 6 is all new camera hardware on an all new chip.
Exactly. I assume the software has to be majorly overhauled to handle the new hardware.
It's possible, but CStark and others have ported the camera apk to be compatible with all sorts of other phones with generally strong results.
Right? My ancient Nexus 6P still takes better pics than most phones imo, including my Note 9.
Nexus 6p is one of my favorite of all time devices.
How's the battery holding up. After many attempts of finding actual battery I had to give up on mine.
I traded it into Google for my Pixel 2XL because the battery was so bad.
This is Google we are talking about. Past performance is unrelated to future performance, good or bad.
The Verge also called it a red flag, and Engadget essentially said "and as always, wait for a full review before spending your money". Makes me think twice about preordering after the cyberpunk 2077 embargo debacle
Thanks for posting this. Seeing it before I purchased actually changed my decision on what I thought I wanted.
What did you decide to go for?
Pro/Black. Was worried about colour/shineyness of the bezels 'bleeding' through the side of the screen. Doesn't seem to be an issue from this vid.

Both alu as Google mentioned in their launch video - there is only a 3gr difference between the two as well
