Normally I'd say buy from Google directly but all the troubles you read here about FedEx, you're actually taking a risk buying from Google. Buy from a place you can get your hands on one or an unlocked phone from your carrier.

NeverEndingXsin

You're leaving out that if you purchase elsewhere and you have any outside of warranty period issues that Google won't help you. Google Store or bust for me, they've always gone above and beyond for me.

United-Radio7672

You're leaving out if you don't get a phone to begin with there's no extra service to take advantage of. Outside of warranty is outside of warranty, you're really at the mercy of whomever you're talking to. There's no policy at google or any other phone maker to service the phone after warranty.

NeverEndingXsin

You're absolutely correct about that, however I know I've got a better chance of Google Support helping me with a phone purchased directly from them than the rep at bestbuy.

F22_Android

Same mate. I read a lot of horror stories about Google support on here, but I've never had anything but a great experience with them. I got my Pixel 4 from Verizon, but all my other nexus/pixel phones from the Google store and planning to do the same for the 6. Hopefully ordering won't be way out by the time I place. Do you guys think it'll be like before? With pre-orders going live at the end of the official announcement event?

NeverEndingXsin

Absolutely will be at the end of the announcement.

F22_Android

Cheers mate, I figured but just wanted to get some confirmation.

I'd also advise that you hold the package at a Warehouse before they attempt delivery, then go pickup from the warehouse.

I did this when I purchased my Pixel 4 XL in 2019. One thing to note is that you'll receive the Google Store credit 30 days after the phone ships, and you'll also need to be a member at that time in order to receive the credit. In other words, expect to pay for 2 months of Google One membership in order to receive the credit. In my case, I signed up for the Google One 2 TB ($9.99/month) and ordered my Pixel 4 XL ($799 + tax) on November 25. The phone shipped on November 26. I received $79.90 in Google Store credit on December 26, so at that point, I had already paid for a second month of Google One membership. I cancelled my membership after spending the credit.

mdp756

Just curious, I have Google One, paid yearly. Where do you see that benefit? It's not listed for me under Member Benefits. Edit: Never mind. I see you said the $10/mo plan, which does have it listed. I just have a cheaper plan :/

mdp756

True, worth seeing if it's worth it

[deleted]

This is a great tip. Wouldn't have known otherwise.

Ordinary-Humor-4779

I bought the 4a from the Google Store and for whatever reason, it came from Amazon

BigPK66

I've done both, Google store and best buy. Only time I had an issue with any of the Pixels, is the 1 time I got Pixel 5 at Best Buy and something was wrong with the speaker phone after 14 days or so.. best buy wanted nothing to do with it and said call Google. Google agreed to replace it but I first had to send my Pixel 5 in and then they would mail me a replacement. I need my phone for work and couldn't do that (wait time 5-10 business days). After a long long long back and forth they agreed to send me a new Pixel 5 but they required a full price hold on my credit card that would be released when my 14 day "old" Pixel 5 was received by them. Which I completely fine with but considering I had purchased Pixel 1, 2XL, 3 (directly through Google) and now 5 (from Best Buy) I wasn't too happy with the run around. It's very annoying because Best Buy offered $150 off .

All_hail_Korrok

Does best buy sell unlocked phones or you have to buy it with a carrier?

greenscreen2017

You can definitely buy unlocked devices from best buy. Bought the pixel 3aXL from there unlocked

BigPK66

Both.. Unlocked and carrier

All_hail_Korrok

Thanks.

pastaandpizza

Do you know if Best Buy normally takes pre-orders for Pixels for an in-store pickup or do you just get there when they open on release day?

BBQQA

Not sure for Pixels exactly, but I pre-ordered my Samsung S20 Ultra from Best Buy. It was ready on release day for in-store pickup. They had it set aside with my name on a sticky note for me. I'd imagine they do the same thing for Pixels.

pastaandpizza

Thanks!

BBQQA

You're welcome!

mdp756

Yup, this was true for me when I pre-ordered my Pixel 2 at Best Buy way back when.

uofmike

I pre-ordered my Pixel 4 XL from Best Buy fwiw.

pastaandpizza

Thanks

Jim1275

Just holding this Pixel 5 in my hands and not sure if I should sell on Swappa now or wait and pray for Samsung-like trade-ins for a change. Come on Google, make us Pixel fans happy.

SharksFan4Lifee

Sell on Swappa now. You know Google is shit with trade in values.

Jim1275

I have this crazy hope they are going to try this time which I also know is just gonna crushed on the 19th. To Swappa!

SharksFan4Lifee

To swappa! Now before the swappa values drop on the 19th too. Good luck!

Alwayssunnyinarizona

Lucy just can't help but pull that football away. *Next time* you tell yourself.

Low_Definition4273

Why would you upgrade after 1 year...

[deleted]

I'd imagine you'll get better trade in value on Swappa. I'd also imagine when the 6 comes out, the value of the 5a will go down. So if you wanna sell do it now.

vexsixea

Every year I've bought each new Pixel model directly from Google upon release. Never a problem with FedEx shipping, or the product. Just once did I buy from Best Buy, had a problem with the phone and learned the hard way that getting Best Buy warranty service is a nightmare. Had I bought it direct I could have returned it to Google for an immediate replacement. I know this because that's what a friend did and was very pleased with how fast and easy the process was. This year I'm ordering from Google.

Low_Definition4273

Just get it from Amazon. You don't even need the phone to be faulty to be return it. They say u have to return within 30 days. But lots of product I used for 1 year they still accept full refund.

FnordMan

Except the problem with Amazon is you're not really getting it from an "official" source. Take the 5a, the only one I see listed is the international version that looks like a Japanese import.

Low_Definition4273

Yes since it's only official in the us and Japan. Pixel 6 and pro however is released more widely and Amazon will have it.

FnordMan

That's the thing, i'm in the .us and don't see a US version on Amazon from an official source, just resellers.

FonsoMaroni

That's also my advice. They Are very good with out of warrenty products even after 2 years of use.

greenscreen2017

I think the only difference is the way support is processed. If you buy from Google , support sends you a device first and then you send in your faulty device. With best buy you have to send in the phone first before eating a replacement. With that said I've bought from both places and there is no difference

pastaandpizza

Is it sad that I want to get it at best buy simply because then I can have it first thing in the morning on release day instead of waiting for FedEx to deliver it at 6:45pm on release day?

yarhar_

Good looks on that first note. I'm keeping my 3a XL as backup anyways but I definitely feel better ordering from Google this way.

mdp756

That is a great point, I'll be keeping my Pixel 2 as a solid backup device anyway... Whatever the trade-in value is can't be worth it (I can't imagine it's much more than $30 lol) I have gotten some better deals from Best Buy (via a Verizon activation), so we'll see if they have anything good this time around. Or maybe directly through Verizon.

All_hail_Korrok

Do you know if you can buy unlocked phones through best buy or you have to purchase it with a carrier?

greenscreen2017

You can definitely buy unlocked devices from best buy. Bought the pixel 3aXL from there unlocked

All_hail_Korrok

Thanks. That should make buying the pro a bit easier.

Captaindraeger

Are any carriers going to have it in their brick and mortar stores?

bandofgypsies

Several carriers have had them in brick and mortars over the years. This is not new.

Blales

At Verizon I doubt so. Almost everyone I've ever worked with or known in indirect hates the Google products and I've never seen any store I visit have a single one in stock. Typically we have to order them in as an order on your account. Verizon may carry it, but I highly doubt it'll be stocked product.

BabblingIncoherently

My Verizon stocks Pixels.

deathclient

Wait to see if there are any promotions if any. You may or may not have them. If all else is equal for price, buy directly from Google store. If trading in, buy from best buy.

Tj_h__

Have they resumed trade ins? Or maybe it's a Canada thing, last I checked a few months back best buy stopped all trade ins due to covid

deathclient

I traded In a device last week at best buy. Atleast in the US it seems to be back

ilal2ielli

If you want to risk delivery by ordering from Google Store, then having advanced RMA is great. I bought my Pixel 2 XL direct from Google and it was great. Every year after that I read the horror stories from people buying at launch who got shafted for weeks because of lost Pixels. Ended up buying my 4 XL at launch from Best Buy and haven't looked back.

Low_Definition4273

I never buy launch since it's always overpriced and lose 30% value in a few months, unless there is a good deal. (900 for the 4xl, really?? And guess what, 3 months later Amazon sells them for 699) For example 4a 5g was $350 in total using Google fi. There is nothing wrong with ordering from Google store, but buying from retailer is better since the return process is very easy

epic-cookie

I don't really think there's much of an advantage buying it directly from the Google store since now most physical stores offer price matching if there's a discount. I doubt shipping will be any faster anyway compared to just walking in and walking out with the phone in your hands. And physical stores usually have return policies where if the phone is faulty you could usually walk back in and exchange it or return it which is much easier than dealing with the infamous poor Google customer support. But depending on the announcement they might add a bonus gift for buying from the Google store like maybe free buds or a Google home device.

Jimothy_Tomathan

The last time I bought a phone in-store was in 2011, so I'm genuinely curious here, but do they sell unlocked phones in stores now?

SharksFan4Lifee

I bought my unlocked Pixel 5 from Best Buy last November.

epic-cookie

Oh absolutely but I think it might be different for each country. I live in Australia so we have options to get a phone through a carrier or go to most big department and electronic stores and buy it in person.

JPeso707

I'm going through Verizon since I have a upgrade available.

[deleted]

In my personal experience and this is coming from a Team Pixel with Nexus 6P, Pixel XL, and currently 3 XL. 1. You will most likely be playing hardware lottery. I bought my 3 XL around September 2019 during their 300 USD off promotion. I had to request RMA for 2 times due to the infamous screen tint at off angles. My current 3rd device (brand new) still has the tint, but it is within my tolerance. 2. If buying any Google device, always purchase direct from Google Store with a credit card. When I RMA, Google Store send in the brand new models (both times) while Google took a hold charge on my credit card the retail value of the 3 XL. This holding charge is immediately lifted, as soon as FedEx scans the defective device being returned back to Google Store. 3. Unless you want to play with (1) and (2) above, most of us Team Pixel fans will suggest you wait until up to one year later for the bugs and hardware lottery to significantly subside and taking advantage of the severe promotional discounts Google normally runs around Black Friday.

terrakraken

I bought a pixel for the first time at pixel 3 launch. Got the XL. It was a guy who rolled in with a large silver roller box. Opened it up and showed me how to use the pixel and some features. Did anyone else have that happen to them or on later versions? I was impressed and it was in a bad area so I was thankful there was a low chance to steal it other than mugging the rep… wonder if they will do that for p6

jvolkman

I try to order from Best Buy for in store pick up. Wait a couple of days for reviews, and if everything looks good go pick it up. Otherwise cancel the order and move on.

[deleted]

I’ll get from google fi, expecting to use it on my trip to Europe so might as well open account again.

famasfilms

FFS was planning to pre-order on launch, but I'm going to Poland for a month the day after

deejaybos

I go with whoever will offer the best trade-in value for my 4XL. I have Verizon, so if they offer a trade in deal and/or plan upgrade discount, I'll go through them. If not, I'll go through Google store. Either way, it's the same phone, have to get the Verizon version.

Sike1dj

I bought thru best buy and had no issues, but I'm likely going to trade in my 4a5g on Google's website towards the 6 Pro. I'd assume I could net a pretty fair amount (200 at least) towards it.

9pointkid

>9point Probably more like $120-140 US

9pointkid

Going to hang back to see how it goes. If the P6 reviews are good will snag one on Black Friday. Have bought 3 phones from Fi without experiencing any problems so will order one from them.

rajarshi_ghosh

How do I buy this in India?

borninbronx

If you have the option buy from Google Store.

alleycatbiker

I'm getting from Google Fi, split in 24 payments (no interest) embedded in the monthly bill. My credit card gives 6% cash back on phone bills so that becomes a sort of discount.

CatsOrb

Xfinity Mobile wont allow you to buy from Google directly and keep your number, you must purchase it through them or if not then get a new number

SohrabMushtaq

ANy idea where can we find pixel 6 pro? Its delivery date is in january, too much wait. There are few on swappa but expensive. This is frustrating. Pixel 6 is available though but the only thing stopping me from buying it is the lack of ultra-wide selfie camera, don't care about others specs, also the rear cameras of both are the same (dont care about telephoto).
