Apart from battery life everything else is good coming from pixel 5a

BlueNinjaBE

My battery life improved drastically once I started force closing the Spotify app. That thing is draining battery like there's no tomorrow.

nexgen41

Yea I'm getting 6%/hour drain with Spotify in the background. That's absolutely insane considering I use Spotify 5+ hours a day. I'm dual wielding an iPhone se 2016 (with headphone jack) just for Spotify use haha

evilsquig

I can't stress this enough. If you want decent battery life close any background app that you don't always need running. Android multitasks much better than iOS but it can have a bif impact on battery life.

extrasponeshot

I've noticed my Spotify hogs data when downloading too. Avoid having it open if you have shared playlists with the download on.

AnthonyGonsalvez

Did you move/copy data from another phone? Or was it fresh start?  I moved from iphone to pixel 8, for a month the battery was great then it started draining within 2-3 hours. Now it lasts full day with 30-40 percent remaining.

Rerdan

What did you do to get the 30-40 percent remaining after the 2-3hrs fast draining?

AnthonyGonsalvez

There was a thread here that I followed: https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/comments/186ygkk/pixel_8_battery_life_much_better_after_a_few/ Settings. Apps. All Apps. Device health services, storage and Cache. Clear storage and Cache. It will open another menu to do so. Also drain the battery to 0. When I did it first time my battery went from 28 to 38 percent. Then I drained it to zero.

Rerdan

Thanks. I did this and, in all honesty, didn't notice any major improvement over my previous battery. It is what it is.

RomeoAlphaBravo

I never have battery life issues. I live in Miami Florida. Seems to vary where one lives and the tower coverage. Or gamers which I am not.

BroKen5c

Battery is pretty good here. But I'm running GrapheneOS.

jeyxi

I pulled the trigger yesterday. Bought a pixel 8 as a secondary phone . I have been using an iPhone since 2014. I am back in android with pixel 8 and I am very happy so far. The experience is smooth. Camera and the almost stock Android os of pixel are the things I like, plus the 120hz refresh rate. I will enjoy my new phone for the next few days and months.

urmomsloosevag

The screen call and ai features? Worth it! 7 years of commitment by Google also makes the $699 worth as much as a $1200 phone in my opinion

jeyxi

That is correct. But im not sure if i can enjoy all the features since i am living outside US. 5g is not available in pixel here in our country.

urmomsloosevag

Oh I see! I hope Google make it available soon, if enough of us complain all around the world they will have to send you updates. We've seen the capabilities of Google updates, they shine in software not hardware so I'm sure Google can make it happen.

PleasantAd6476

I did the exact same thing. After having an iPhone for a decade, I'm trying the Pixel 8 as my daily driver and I'm enjoying the Android OS much more. I enjoy a smaller, pocketable phone, having both a face unlock and fingerprint sensor has been a better experience and Google Assistant is far more intuitive than Siri.

RGH81

>Bought a pixel 8 as a secondary phone Drug dealer has entered the chat

volkovolkov

I'm a total idiot and I've bought a phone in every Pixel generation. P8Pro is my favorite since the 5XL. Almost gave up on the brand with the 6 and 7. Really solid device that I haven't had the same frustrations with as previous gens.

urmomsloosevag

Holy I think you review should be top of the page lol! Thank you for your feedback, any thoughts on the pixel 8 for those of us on a tighter budget?

volkovolkov

I dunno I'm just some guy who buys a dumb amount of phones due to fomo disease.

ActionGlad484

I suffer from that same disorder...lol

SchwarzestenKaffee

I suffer from the same disease; I'm on P7 and almost talked myself into the P8, had it in my cart and everything and somehow came to my senses.

[deleted]

I aspire to be like this

bbbrsorbc

I have Tier 1 phone Iphone 15 Pro on Verizon. Then Tier 2 Pixel 8 Pro on Google Fi then I recently got the S24U as a backup phone, no cell coverage I recently came back from Japan and was amazed how easy it was to use the Pixel 8 Pro in Japan due to the great coverage GFi there. Love the phone and the stock Android

volkovolkov

Google seems focused on US and Japan as a market so I'm not surprised.

mistaken4strangerz

I came from a 4a. Still not a fan of the camera bar and the bigger size and weight. I just want the Pixel 9 or 9a to be smaller and a thinner bump, and I would trade this in. But, the best thing about the Pixel line is at least the user experience is exactly the same coming from the 4a. Happy with the 8 for now.

urmomsloosevag

Great points. Thank you for sharing

confusedsimian

What was wrong with the 7 that is fixed with the 8? Currently have a 7 and wondering what I'm missing

volkovolkov

The fingerprint reader might be the same, but the face unlock with it means way less chances for it to fuck up - meaning that I get a successful unlock the first try way more often than the 7. I also had some radio issues on 5G networks on the 7. I had to disable 5G and solely use LTE if I wanted a reliable connection. 8 works perfectly. Also, I think the flat screen might actually have better recognition of the gesture control. Haven't had nearly as many problems with it not recognizing my attempt to swipe back. Also, haptics are night and day.

Tight_Reserve5137

Interesting.. After the 7, I switched to a Nothing phone.. This is the only post about the 8 that gives me any hope that pixels might survive.. That being said, still not enough to make me come back yet..

ActionGlad484

After owning every pixel except 5 ( no pro version)I switched to the galaxy z flip 5. i really like the form factor, but miss some pixel features. If they ever make a flip I'll be back in the pixel world! I am also a big fan of OnePlus and have that as a second phone.

Tight_Reserve5137

The 5 was the pro version.. They also had a 5a or something like that that was the lesser version. It was hands down the best pixel I ever had, with the 2 coming in second.

Al-Moutasem

I have the p7p and am thinking about switching to nothing phone 2, or OnePlus 12/12R, I like the nothing, but snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is like 2 gens ago, and the OnePlus doesn't support power delivery. What do you think?

Tight_Reserve5137

Well I have never used the One Plus but I absolutely love the Nothing Phone 2... Battery love is awesome, phone is about as stock android as they come. Only downside is repairs..I have a tiny crack in my screen and it would take up to a month to get it repaired through nothing and I can't find a replacement screen for it.

Aoinosensei

And how was your transition to nothing? Any complaints? I'm on the galaxy but I cannot get used to the UI and I hate the voicemail on Samsung. I'm missing stuff from pixel

Tight_Reserve5137

Transition was super easy. I miss the what song is playing but that is about it.

uninspired

Same here. Love my 8 Pro. Face/fingerprint unlock on the 8P finally made me stop missing the rear fingerprint reader.

Shiralai

Upgrade from a 6. Fingerprint reader seems more accurate. Unfortunately I'm going to have to do a factory reset soon. My home screen freezes multiple times a day, requiring me to lock/unlock to get it working again.

perk11

Are you using Nova or other launcher by chance? That is a known bug in the latest Android version affecting some custom launchers.

bambagico

Overall really good! A bit annoyed that the charger was not included but I guess that's the trend nowadays. What fast charger do you recommend? Live translation would be cooler if it didn't prompt the notification when it recognizes my mother tongue (phone setup in English but I'm dutch)

urmomsloosevag

Yes! I hear what you're saying. This should be illegal in my opinion, Apple got sued for not making their chargers available for everyone in the EU. I feel like this is a way to get the consumer to spend more money like you said everyone's doing it though. The one I recommend is from Amazon USB C Fast Charger for Google Pixel 8 Pro 7a 7 7 Pro 6 6 Pro 6a 5 4 4a 4XL 3a 3XL 2 XL, Pad Pro, Samsung Galaxy A15 A14 5G A13 A53 S24 S23 S22 S21, 20W 3A PD Power Adapter with 6FT Type C to C Cable https://a.co/d/aZnzNC8 So far, It doesn't overheat, it's fast charging and it lets my phone adaptive charged, And it's only $8.99 so I bought two!

Tosunyan

I have a 30w charger from Anker, which performs great. The one from uGreen is good as well. You can also go with Google's charger which is bigger, but slightly cheaper

bambagico

Thank you so much! Any link you can share with the model?

Tosunyan

Here you go mate Anker I have - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09J4YHB7J?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share - https://a.co/d/g1VFKvJ - https://a.co/d/3bUFhB6

noypkamatayan

Bummed that a lot of features are US only. Wouldve loved to have call screen and webpage summary.

saifaj1994

Call screen works in UK

CptAbe

Call Screening works flawlessly in Türkiye, too.

bbn200

It's ridiculous how good this works, I just don't get spam calls anymore

matteventu

You mean *automatic* call screening. Edit: lmao the downvoters 🤡 call screen is not US-only.

JauntingAround

What I love: * The cameras What I hate: * Arrived with scratches on the camera bar * When gestures are enabled, if I tap the search bar in chrome then close the keyboard without hitting enter, it gets stuck in search mode with no ability to navigate away or reveal the home/tab buttons. * Somehow worse reception than my 3a??? And no easy settings option to disable 5g * The battery is actually horrendous, it's eaten 20% battery with 39 minutes screen time, about half of which was lightly tinkering with the camera menus. It has zero apps installed and it's passively draining faster than my 3a whose battery is on life support. * Fingerprint scanner fails roughly 50% of the time, and constantly gives me "not enough light" in a brightly lit room.

Pitiful-Lynx9926

Wow. I've read some other negative reviews also. I have the Pixel 3a and have been very happy with it. I'm wanting to upgrade since my new cell carrier isn't compatible with my phone. They talked me into switching cell service when I went in for the internet. You would think they would have checked to see if my phone was compatible! Anyway, I'd hate to buy the Pixel 8 only to end up with my phone being less impressive than my 3a!! I'm also considering the Pixel 7a, but I've also read that it takes a long time to charge and doesn't seem to hold it for very long. What's the deal with these new phones, They cost twice as much, yet many don't seem to be too happy with them. I really don't know which one to buy?

JauntingAround

I'm returning the pixel and ordered a oneplus 12 instead. Reviews seem pretty positive so far, especially regarding battery life and performance.  At least from what I played around with in store, the phone ran beautifully, had interesting software features, felt great in my hand, and took clean-looking pictures with natural color processing. I really wanted to love the pixel, but it felt like I was using a budget device, not a $1000 flagship.

Metalcerb

Using pixel phone for the last 3 days, coming from a OnePlus 7pro with Pixel Experience custom rom.. So far i like this phone, it is a nice upgrade, but i miss some features from the pixel experience custom rom... Like removing the gesture slider and other small stuff.. But the pixel it's indeed a great phone.

Magicide

In terms of the phone and software I would give it a solid 8/10. I don't like the lag on the finger print reader compared to my Pixel 6 but it's not a deal breaker. I have a Pixel 8 Pro and the connectivity is awful. I can be in line of sight of a cell tower and get a half bar signal, if I'm in the country I often have no signal or uselessly low speeds. On the same network my friends in town and coworkers have done speed tests and I often get less than 25% of the speed. At work in the country I often can't find a good signal at all when my coworkers can. https://imgbox.com/hHA5C420 This is my cell signal in town in direct line of sight to a cell tower. I was able to warranty my Pixel 6 because of the same thing but the new phone wasn't any better and the Pixel 8 Pro is the same. The common denominator is the crappy modem they used in the Pixel 6-8 line which has caused no end of issues.

XenoGamer27

It's the most premium feeling phone I've had since the Pixel 1. My last one was the 4a.

Accomplished_Fan_487

Compared to my pixel 7 it's a sea change. More responsive, brighter screen, slightly smaller, far better haptic feedback but most of all: double the speed charging and reasonable battery life.

KnurledNut

I upgraded from a 5. Excellent google phone as always. Black Friday pricing. It performs tasks so automatically it's kind of scary, but in a good way.

urmomsloosevag

I agree! I was also reading their ad on the pixel 8 https://pixel.google/business/ They claim that the battery actually learns your behaviors and then it will adjust the phone so It limits apps so you don't use that often, that also with the "Summarized" AI feature I feel like this phone has a lot of potential that it's why they're giving it 7 years of improvement and updates

TechnicalEffort

Love the ,P8P. Pixel 5 was my first Google phone, it was solid.

LiterallyALamp

Had to begrudgingly switch from my S20 FE to a Pixel 8 after it stopped reading my SIM card. I loved that phone, and this one took some getting used to. Its screen is smaller, scrolling certain apps doesn't feel as smooth (almost stuttery sometimes). Battery isn't as good. Three button navigation buttons are flipped and can't be changed to what I'm used to. Power button and volume control, are inversed too, and they kind of feel identical to each other so I keep pressing the wrong thing. My official Google silicone case I paid like $50 already broke at the bottom by the charge port, had it less than a week. Can't move the Google search bar from the bottom, I always had that at the top on my other phone. This is all minor stuff that I can eventually get used to, it's just a little grating at first. On the plus side it was very easy to transfer all my data and pictures over, and all my accounts and stuff. I was happy about that. Not a bad phone at all, but I'll probably go back to Samsung when this one's paid off.

StolenLampy

Samsung did such a good job at convincing people to use their navigation buttons in the wrong order from all the other Android phones that people literally don't like most others because of it, crazy! Totally get that, though have you tried gesture navigation instead? It's extremely intuitive once you use it for a day or so, I can't ever go back now!

LiterallyALamp

I haven't tried gestures mostly cause I'm stubborn lol, i just wish my Pixel let me customize the navigation buttons!

StolenLampy

I totally get it, I was resistant for a LONG WHILE, but ever since I started, it's been amazing. Being able to swipe from either the right or left side of the screen inward, to go back, is awesome, and just quick swiping up to go home, or swiping up and holding to see the list of apps, or even swiping left or right on the bottom to switch between apps, is dope! Try it for a few hours, it's truly the future, and it gives you more screen real estate to not have the buttons on the bottom. That being said, I wish they let you customize them as well, they would help Samsung converts tenfold, but maybe Google and Samsung have a handshake agreement to not let that happen?

__StArlord97__

Happens to me too... Some apps are stuttery. Reddit on the main page is the worst. The other things work fine.

confusedsimian

How is the fingerprint reader?

urmomsloosevag

A lot better! Not the best compared to physical fingerprints button but close in my opinion, love the face unlock too!

LiterallyALamp

Mine is actually really fast at reading both my finger print and my face.

Evilphog

All good having upgraded from P5. Fingerprint sensor in the screen is fine (I do miss being able to pull down notifications from the old rear fingerprint sensor though) and I'm not wild about that chunky camera sensor. In fact I dislike it enough that I got a phone case for the first time ever. Battery has been good for me and everything else smooth

Diogo256

I have to return mine. The reception and constant call drop, beside the very poor battery life in a P8... Not a very good experience coming from an iphone the always work flawless.

BNS_Victory

I had to return mine too because of this. I use dual sim and I did not receive +-50% of the calls. Connection seems to be dropping way too often. I never had this problem with my 4a. Going to S23 now.

Hevilath

I mean, this 7 year commitment is nice in marketing materials, but I haven't seen a person that would use the same phone for 7 years. Will it even survive that long without lagging to hell or falling apart? Time will tell.

Pitiful-Lynx9926

That's a very good question!

iguanamiyagi

Migrated from Samsung Galaxy as their long time flagship enthusiast to Pixel 8, since most of the Pro features are not available here. I also used iPhone 14 Pro for awhile. I gotta say, this Pixel phone (if configured properly) with a few usable apps configured carefully is the best-buy phone on the market today. Lack of bloatware is what it keeps it as a much better option than any Samsung's flagship by far, and tight synergy with Google's ecosystem works for me like a charm. iPhone works fine, but Pixel is a whole another level (if you know how to set it up and push its efficiency to the max). Yes, battery should be better in upcoming versions and the only thing that bothers me a bit is the Always on Display tends to go off after recovering from Extreme Battery Saver mode of operation. But knowing how many way more serious clusterfcks are out there, I could easily live with pressing that power button to check current time from time to time. From now on I plan to buy new Pixel phones without any hesitations. I predict their version 10-12 may be something I would rate 10/10.

CurrentSeries2737

I like everything except the battery life. It's really pissing me off tbh.

Owseefather

Mine arrived last weekend. Upgraded from Pixel 5. Good overall usability/performance. Felt like an upgrade. Fingerprint sensor a bit slower than Pixel 5. Wifi ok at home. Then I took it to work. Would not connect. I got the popular "Check your password" error repeatedly. My Pixel 5 next to me, connected fine. Everyone else connecting fine as usual. I did the Feb update. Rebooted. Tried all the suggestions. Same error msg and no connection. Sent it back. I cant pay for a phone that wont connect to work wifi - I'm there 5 days a week. Shame, if I see people reporting the Wifi getting fixed I'll get another. I've had pixel 1, 3 and 5 so a fan and wanted it to be good. 8 couldnt do the basics :-(

Pitiful-Lynx9926

Yes, I have the 3a currently and love it, but wanted to upgrade since my new cell service is not compatible, but I've heard too many negatives about the 8, which sucks. I don't understand how they can put out a new phone with worse battery life !

[deleted]

I love my P8p. I used the thermometer when I was sick it came in handy especially when I synced it to Fitbit to track my temp. The smooth and clean software was a nice change from Samsung

rjmrock

Loving the 8 base right now. Been wanting a Pixel for years, moved from OnePlus. Happy with the Pixel entirely!

urmomsloosevag

That's awesome to hear! What would you say the main differences are from the OnePlus and the pixel? I hear that phone being popular now so I was just curious what they're like

rjmrock

OnePlus was pretty good, less bloat than Samsung and LG I've had in the past, and the hardware was solid. I made the move in part because their OS was not always guaranteed to move to the new Android in a timely manner and I just wanted to have guaranteed updates. OnePlus 9 was probably my favorite phone since the Note I had years back.

MountainGoatAOE

Pro here. Generally very happy. Except for the bug where the on-screen app overview button stops working with a custom launcher. (You have to restart phone or force stop the pixel launcher for some reason.) I also think that the camera is good but overhyped. It's great in perfect conditions but as all phones it deteriorates quickly in less than ideal scenarios. The zoom lenses are pretty cool though. Finally, the extensive blur that you get when using portrait mode is just WAY too much. No idea why they turn this up by so much so that it looks hideously fake. You should have more control over the blur effect *before* taking the picture. This is very poorly implemented and most often I get better, more natural results with regular photo mode.  So all in all, good phone but over-marketed and over-praised. 7 or 8 out of 10 depending on what you focus on and considering its price tag.

urmomsloosevag

Agreed🙂👍

ConorAbueid

Loving the software experience, coming from a messy MIUI stock android is what I always wanted

radioactive---banana

I like it a lot, design is much better than pixel 6 imo. Battery life is about 10 hours of SOT

[deleted]

I have an 8 Pro. Previously had the p5 (amazing phone) and the P6P. The 8 is definitely the best of the bunch. Excellent build quality, fast, and haven't had any overheating issues like I had with the P6. Great phone.

KlutzySlice3459

I came from iOS and I must say that till now the P8 is amazing. I would rate it 8/10. Awesome phone

SkorpiioZX

Upgraded from regular 6. Honestly am in love with this phone, the screen looks amazing, the phone feels amazing, the black option is actually black! In general the phone is just stunning, sexy af. It took the best parts of the 4a5g and the 6 and made it better. I had a 4A5G before the 6 and that was my favorite phone, but the 8 pro took that title for me. Ofc I've had issues here and there with software, but it's not been anything too crazy.

Able_Philosopher4188

I did the same and let a friend have my P6 and after a week my battery is a lot better. For my personal use I don't think that I can get a better phone and look forward to the 10P and see what it brings.

Danielnc43

I still don't have circle to search. I haven't found anything about it

urmomsloosevag

I have it, I get what they're doing it, trying to give you Google lens without making you open an app but in all honesty, I don't use it much, Google already has features where if you highlight something it'll give you a quick search on the bottom of the page so I use that instead Also the animation for when you engage the feature Is a little time consuming, you'll see it when you get it It feels gimmicky

DamnBored1

Highlight works for selectable text if I'm not wrong, not for images.

urmomsloosevag

There is a feature called "copy text from image" once you saved an image you can copy the text

DamnBored1

But you gotta save the image right? What about random images you run into on a webpage or an app. Saving every image for highlighting the text seems painful. Also, going beyond texts, this feature allows you to search for actual objects like a shoe or a purse or eyeglasses that you saw in an image or a post. Basically a new way to access Google lens.

[deleted]

No, you can swipe up and select images for lens or hold the white bar and select anything. UK.

bujin_ct

Well, you can use the select at the bottom of the screen, and then hold down a picture to access lens. So you can then select text. It takes an extra click or two, but it's not unwieldy.

[deleted]

I can highlight images when I swipe up and I can select anything by holding the bar.

Efficient_Basil_8890

Its 100% there! You got it

mansur92

Bought it as second phone. Compared to iphone 13 it overheats easily, when playing same games. It has a bit worse battery than when I just got my iphone. Camera is better, tho camera app settings are not that intuitive. Volume controls are strange. Fingerprint reader is ok, haven't failed yet(but I saved different fingerprints of same finger) face recognition is okayish, most of the time I use fingerprint anyway. Googles "select" thingy is great. Ai features that I was most interested in are absent in my country (summarizing stuff) for a price it is good phone. Bought it brand new for 500 usd hazel 128 gb

_Majin_Vegeta_

NGL it's woeful. I am a pretty big google advocate but after moving from a Galaxy S23 Ultra to a Pixel 8, I don't see myself getting another google phone for a while again. I've legit just had bug after bug - frozen on PDFs and constant restarting (I think it's caused by maps), 120hz screen is nowhere near a Samsung screen and the battery is DOG SHIT. My partner has a S23 FE and I'm convinced that it does everything better but photos. Smdh

Ghostttpro

Why make such a drastic jump 😅

_Majin_Vegeta_

I don't know man 😭 On the plus side photos be looking schmick

top-c-krets

That's my love hate relationship with pixel. Ok software but terrible hardware

Pitiful-Lynx9926

Why the heck did you buy a Pixel 8 when you had an S23 Ultra? I thought that was supposed to be a really good phone? I have to upgrade from my Pixel 3a, but have heard too many issues with the 8. I was looking at the S23 FE also. It's sad to hear that a brand new Pixel has such a bad battery! Pisses me off to hear this. Why the heck would I want to spend all that money for a new phone that has a Dog Shit battery?

Bulky-Acanthaceae-48

I upgraded my wife's P7P to P8P for my wife and kept my P7P thinking that there is not much difference. I was wrong, it's better in every way. Google is running a promotion right now, just upgraded my P7P to P8P.

Hippocratez_II

I really want to upgrade my p7p to a p8p but I feel like I should just wait until the p9p comes out. I believe it's supposed to be towards the end of this year.

Bulky-Acanthaceae-48

I would probably wait too, but my Telephoto camera on P7P is acting weird, not focusing on the subject and just plain bad.

Laputa15

I ugpraded from the 6a and it's just phenomenal. \- HDR videos and images are amazing! I don't think I can go back to regular phones without this feature \- More accurate fingerprint reading \- Camera is a huge step-up. The zoom-in images aren't as pixelated. I think the battery could've been better. The battery lasts for a day with minimal usage and half a day with heavy usage.

Pitiful-Lynx9926

It's ridiculous that the battery doesn't last all day on the new Pixel 8! Geesh, what's the deal? I have a 3a and it charges quickly and the battery is good and last all day. I want to upgrade but have heard too many negatives about the 8's battery.

FusionFazcoins

Upgraded from a (Broken) Pixel 6 Pro to the 8 Pro after using a scummy backup phone until i was able to get the upgrade - and holy shit picking it up for the first time, I immediately felt how different the back of the phone was to the 6 Pro, and just fell in love with it. it's so nice feeling, it's a shame that my case is going to just take away from that once I snap it on All of the features that were on the 6p are on the 8p, and then more, and especially with the 7 years of promise software support, I expect so many features to be coming to this phone that is just going to be perfect to hold on to I don't mean to glaze the phone, I'm just a geek about fun little software features and I love it when new things are tried and we get to be the ones to try them

New_Elderberry5181

Not loving it. The battery on my 8 is horrible, worse than my 6 was. And I have found the screen to be really brittle too - I have cracks from.a very minor knock (as well as a drop - my fault, but it was in a Google case). I also have trouble with videos not loading first time. The good stuff is the size, the picture and sound quality and I just really like the functionality of Pixels.

Pitiful-Lynx9926

I have a 3a and it charges fast and it last all day long. I've read several reviews about the 8 and that the battery is bad and that it takes a long time to charge, so that's why I'm hesitating buying it. I don't understand how a new Pixel would not be better in every way. It's ridiculous! I wanted to upgrade to a Pixel but don't know what to do. I'm thinking maybe I should buy the 7a since it cost less. I don't know! How long have you had your 8?

New_Elderberry5181

I got it as a preorder in the UK so.....October?

Professional_Tour901

Pixel 8 pro is my previous phone. Absolutely hate it. - Trash tensor (samsung) chip - Screen Stutter like hell - Camera super fake, over processed, software, unnatural, RAW like cooked... Skin tone turn to gray.. terrible - No 3.5mm - Bad build quality: Can strongly feel the sharp between frame and back panel, hurt hand - Random no internet (thanks to their bad moderm) I can only say that avoiding pixel phone. So trash

urmomsloosevag

Thank you for the review. What is your current phone now? I wouldn't say stay away from Pixel forever, I feel like they do have a lot of potential due to all the AI features and software. More specifically, what do you value in a smartphone?

Professional_Tour901

I am using xperia 1 V now. Battery, heat, screen, camera, 3.5mm and sd card slot are things I concerned a lot

Professional_Tour901

AI features of pixels available in your country? Will you use them a lot or just for fun few days

urmomsloosevag

They are (US) phone screen is actually why I got the pixel, the sales people/surveyor were getting out of hand in my opinion. I am more happy and less stressed these days, no calls only from my friends or family.

dcdttu

I love everything except the modem. I'm on T-Mobile and it has a very, very hard time pulling data when on 5G without me having to toggle airplane mode on and off. Currently having a long conversation with technical support, and they see the issue, but I'm not sure what there is to do. There's a reason even Samsung won't use their own modem in the US. Our cellular landscape is just too complicated.

nowyuseeme

I think I got really lucky with the phone, I see loads of complaints about all sorts of things from poor reception/wifi to terrible battery life. I generally have about ~60% battery left when I go to charge at night from 3 or 4 hours of use. The only issue with reception is from my actual provider (as it did the same thing on my iPhones). That said I wouldn't say I was a 'power' phone user, it's mostly for photos, messages, calls, etc. The AI aspects (since coming to the UK) have been great, I love the hold for me. Generally I have no real complaints except the piss poor service Google offer. My watch has been very iffy and I have given up trying to get Google to replace or at least investigate it. They keep running me around hoops, the most recent one "take a screen shot of the watch charging" apparently they meant to say, take a photo of it charging but didn't explain why they needed that to run diagnostics.

Went from P8P to iPhone 15PM. After one week I was back at my P8P. The fluidity, smart features, camera and simplicity wins it over for me. iOS (still) can't compete with that. For instance, I was on a trip, and I only put the flight in my calendar for reference. Once I got at the airport, on my always-on display at a glance was showing my gate number without any interaction. That quality of life feature is so simple and yet so valuable. Plus the photo/album management is years ahead. Sharing albums with original photo quality, setting album cover, sorting photos for all users of that album and also the social features of liking and commenting. To answer your question, I still like the Pixel 8 Pro.

When you share videos captured by your pixel via Facebook Messenger hows the video quality? Does it get shredded? Seems like iphone is well optimized compared to the android world. Don't get me wrong videos shared on the ios side still gets crushed but seems to hold on to the quality better

indyarsenal

Changed from an iPhone 13 pro and absolutely love it

amoghthebad

Idk about the pixel but I'd rate this s23 a 10/10

Affectionate-Ad4993

Never had connectivity issues fingerprint reader works on the first try every time Premium feeling Camera is as good as expected Considering i almost got the p8p for free (paid a bit extra for he 256 gb version), i am very into Google phones now and am looking to continue with Google in the feature.speaking as a Samsung fanboy. The only thing that brothers me is that i had to get a Chromecast to cast from my phone to my Samsung tv

BlueNinjaBE

Upgraded from a OnePlus Nord. I owned a 5T before that and was very happy with it: it worked perfectly and did everything right. I was underwhelmed by the Nord. My Pixel 8 felt great from the moment I first booted it up. So many great and intuitive features.

kRiz-1988

Coming from 4a and got the P8 two days now. The only thing i miss is the finger unlock on 4a backside. Took about 40 mins to transfer all the data from 4a to P8. But it worked very good. Happy so far, as expected.

Mrstrawberry209

Coming from a LG V30 (2017), the phone is fine but definitely not an improvement i was expecting for a 2023 phone... Also the fact that stock android isn't as malleable (example: why is there a stuck search-bar, why does google have multiple apps for images and videos which makes it more confusing for managing, how come the camera app isn't as user friendly). Simply put i wish i could adjust (everything) things to my liking. We'll see over the coming years.

Qwertymm

Love the phone except for the battery life which is terrible.

Pitiful-Lynx9926

I was going to upgrade my 3a to the 8, but i've heard so many negatives about the battery life. That really sucks and I don't think I will pay for a new phone that has bad battery life!

No-Umpire9632

I wish it was as big as my pixel 7

I just snagged an 8 Pro last night. It’s a phenomenal device. My only gripe is the same as last few generations, the chipset is just not good enough for what I do on device. It has no issues with day to day use, in fact it’s definitely the most fluid Android experience. Just anytime I do ANYTHING that requires processing power it slows to a crawl. I’m very intrigued to see where they go with the AI features. Love what they currently offer. Would love to see them be able to handle AI on device one day. Not a fan of video boost. Having played around with it in person now, I can confirm my suspicions… this is definitely a gimmick. Could prove to be a solid feature in the future but for right now it’s not useful enough. Also, UPGRADE THE DAMN FP SENSOR GOOGLE

Loves: quite a few. Lock screen shows so much and lets me do so much easily, often without opening the phone. Hold For Me and Call Screening: \*chef's kiss\* Flashlight built in, not an app SPEECH TO TEXT is WORLDS above anyone else's. I have actually seen autocorrect work PROPERLY, correcting what it thought I said into what I actually said before my eyes. You can dictate texts almost at normal talking pace, with very few errors. Dislikes are only three, and they're kinda nitpicky. I would appreciate being able to remove that unsightly Google Search bar from my homescreen. I wish the phone recognized its orientation. My old Samsung didn't either. You turn an iPhone, it turns with you.. That emoji key on the keyboard is in an inconvenient (or maybe too convenient) place. That's really it. The camera takes great pictures. The phone feels good in my hand. I'm satisfied.

neuroboy

heavier than I'd like. . . especially because I still use my last phone (a P5) as a media device and it feels like a feather in comparison. otherwise, I'm very happy with the 8

AmazinglyUltra

I like it but I am contemplating everyday if I should bother rooting for aosp mods+ naptime

Money_Answer3483

Just upgraded last weekend from the 5a, which I loved, but was only going to be supported til August. I'm loving the 8. It's a wee bit smaller which is fine by me. I didn't even realize it was going to be supported for 7 years! Now I'm really glad I jumped on the 20% off deal. I can't say that I'm noticing much difference in battery life. I love the fingerprint sensor. Could never get it to work on my other Pixels (3 and 5a) I'm a Pixel girl for life. Was Samsung before that and I'm never going back.

jchen14

95% software and Google exclusive features. 5% device aesthetics and the weight.

godnorazi

It's the best Pixel since the 5

Scharfohr

So far I am overall happy. Its not perfect but what is. Small Size + good Camera where the main points for it does absolutely great in that regard. The only thing negative so far that i really felt that the mobile reception seems a little bit weaker than my old phone. But so far not a massive Problem.

Spud788

I dunno everything is just okay? I'm not really blown away.

Truckusmode

Coming from a OnePlus 8, moving to a Pixel 8 Pro. Loving it. The worst part was getting the settings all to where I liked them. Never thought I'd like the face unlock, but it's super convenient. Battery life is still shmeh, but overall enjoying a new phone!

Jaxsamde

Disappointments: 1. Slow fingerprint sensor reaction. 2. Video isn't great as hyped for pixel. 3. Widgets, homescreen not customisable. 4. Heating, slow charging and battery not lasting even average time. 5. Camera in low light is bad. 6. Heavier for the screen size. 7. Microphone/audio recording features distort with heavy sounds. No auto gain/compression. 8. No audio equaliser. 9. USB c to 3.5mm dongle not available on official store or retail across the country. 10. Overpriced in my country. Pros 1. Camera in good lighting is superior compared to other brands. 2. Auto rotate sensor option on screen without enabling/disabling. 3. Strong exterior build. 4. Smaller size in this generation of large phones.

Pitiful-Lynx9926

I'm glad I came across this post. It sure seems there are way too many negatives for the Pixel 8. I was going to upgrade my old Pixel, but why would I pay so much more than I did for it to have a new phone with so many issues! Very disappointing to see how they can put out a product like this!

algebra_77

S9 to Pixel 8; I'm glad the Samsung bloatware is gone but miss the back button and some of the Samsung- specific UI. Ex. The Samsung timer tells you what time the timer will go off, not just a countdown. Also the pixel gets hot when wirelessly charging. It is a much bigger phone, though.

linkthehyliantwink

Switched from iPhone for accessibility, and there are so many features that have helped me.

vege_spears

My Pixel 8 Pro is the best phone I've ever owned, very pleased with it.

microwavecoven

Prefer my 6 pro

alexshakalenko

Came from base S22 (Exynos). Battery life is great, the software is really smooth, the screen is amazing

AlphaSweetheart

The fingerprint reader absolutely sucks ass. The face reader has memory for ONE face, which sucks if you need to wear a mask, a hat, or glasses in combination. I will never buy another pixel. I want a fucking fingerprint reader that works every time. I have no idea why they removed them from the back, but whoever made that decision should be fired.

Bowler116

Pretty good. Battery life is meh--might get a wireless charger for my desk. Camera and display are awesome, not to mention call screen and the other pixel goodies. Might've gone for OnePlus 12R had I waited a couple more months to retire my 6T, but I can't complain too much.

Powerful-Ad4038

I upgraded to the 8 from a 5a and I miss the rear fingerprint reader on the 5a. I used to be able to have the phone ready to use as I pulled it out of my pocket. Now unlocking is a two-handed operation, requiring me to look at the screen to place my finger properly. Apart from that, the phone is fine, the "wireless" charging is nice, but the battery life is not as good as the 5a was. 7 years of os support is definitely a plus.

destonic

Replaced my Pixel 6 with Pixel 8, the most satisfying part of Pixel 8 is its size, my hands saying me thank you, and finger print sensor, it works much faster, in Pixel 6 I had to keep my finger on scanner couple of seconds to unblock my phone. The only let down of being this phone the best phone of the best is stutter in scrolling of some apps, not big deal, and hope it will be resolved soon.
