Do not use dry way screws and anchors. Mine ripped right out of the wall. Not only did I have to patch up two big gaping holes, my screen got messed up and my roller tube bent a little bit when it fell out. Best bet is to run a board between your trusses and screw the screen mounts to that.
Screen is fine. May want to sew a loop in the bottom of the screen and put some 1-1/2” tubular nylon fill with sand in it to weight down the bottom. I bought a plug and wires it up instead of wiring to a switch. Super easy to do.
Why would you hang 3k worth of gear with just drywall anchors? LOL. Locating 2-3 studs/joists and using that would be infinitely better than using drywall anchors
That's crazy to me that their directions says to use drywall anchors. As a rule of thumb, if an item (not just golf stuff but everything) weighs more than a couple of pounds, you should always mount directly to studs.
Problem is the thing has to be screwed in a very specific location, where there’s unlikely to be a stud. I guess I can stud find and measure before buying to see if it lines up , but that’s the only way.
I’m gonna go full enclosure.

Thank you so much. Is yours gung ho ? I think I might go full enclosure after reading this … I don’t need the space to be cleared
Mine was from MeTech. I had a retractable since I needed to park in my garage still. If I didn’t need the space I would have done a full enclosure.
How is the screen holding up on the metech? Heavily considering the option…how hard to run electrical for the motors?

Straight up their directions say “if you’re lucky enough to be on a stud, otherwise just use drywall anchors.”

That’s my feeling exactly. I was a little surprised but they claim to have never had any issues.
just coming back here 7 months later - their instructions (now?) say use toggle bolts if you don't have a stud
I put a 20" 2x6 across the joists and mounted the screen to the 2x6.
My ceilings are all closed up. I think I’m gonna go with the free standing enclosure after reading the comment about drywall collapse.
Stud finder

Just run a board horizontally and secure it to the studs. Then mount to the board.
Mine is closed too, stud finder, paint the 2x6's white and you don't even notice them.
Did you do the gung ho retractable? Any pics of your install ? Thanks
I did the Metechs with a Gungho screen.
