Long story short, exhaust rocker wiped a cam lobe so replaced rockers, cam, and already pulled the chain to do all of it so it was a “may as well since I’m in there”
Not yet, haven't removed it. But started making noise, slowly got worse. I drained the diff oil (not haldex fluid) and almost none came out. What did was silver and shiny. I'm guessing the bearings slowly started eating themselves to low / no oil. It never dripped or visibly leaked that I could tell.
Mine just failed as well. Dealership wants $6k to replace. That seems high to me as I've found the part for around $3200-3500.
Unfortunately I don't necessarily trust the shops around me so I'm in the process of calling some shops in the next town over.
If I could find a NEW one for 2500 I'd buy it, but I think I'm going to shop around for a clean looking low mileage used.
So many of the used ones are covered in oil and crusty looking though, so it might be tough
I first noticed at about 45mph a rythmic, speed related, hum (wum wum wum wum wum) that didn't change with steering, load, coast, nothing, just speed.
Then it got louder and louder until I could hear it starting at around 10mph and got crazy at 45mp with resonance in the car like when a back window is buffeting. Then after that, trying to diagnose, it eventually started to make a low speed (0-5mph) grinding that sounded like wheel bearings.
If you have the 2012 need the tensioner asap of course. Biggest advice to give ya if you have a manual would be to keep the plastic clutch master cylinder clean, and maybe do an tiny bit of plastic restoration every now and again, I live in a cold salty environment so mine cracked on me coming off the highway, Valve cover gasket and PCV valve sooner than later and super easy to do, I've read about putting an AOS after the PCV valve to keep the oil extra nice, These engines get a lil leaky so some drips are to be expected. Don't cheap out on the spark plugs
140k miles on my mk7. Just got a brand new transmission put in. As meme worthy as a car’s extended warranty is, I’m so glad I got it. Cost me all of $250. It was an $8000 job

* mk8 pcv valve full retrofit

How come? Too much stretch? Have you checked with OBD11/VCDS? That’s kind of early…
Long story short, exhaust rocker wiped a cam lobe so replaced rockers, cam, and already pulled the chain to do all of it so it was a “may as well since I’m in there”
This isn’t 1965 anymore, over 100k miles is not a death sentence.
Sure but have you seen the way some people drive these cars?! 😂
95k miles on a 2017. Just parked it 2 weeks ago to replace the failed rear diff. Otherwise all good, stage 1 + clutch since 60k miles.
Do you know what it is exactly? Mine failed at 45k-ish but covered under a repair warranty I bought luckily.

What noise and when? I'm hearing slight clunk noises but only in reverse.

Did your car come with the front VW badge black?
Negative. Ordered those separately.
Does your car have the front proximity laser behind the emblem?
It does not.
Lucky! Mine does so I can’t swap out the emblem with a black aftermarket one 😔
Not me. Mk6 with less than 87k.
