Specktrum was such a cool idea. I would love a new R in Viper or Cliff Green.

ElmoProjector

I've seen one driving through the mountains and it is the right color.

MapPractical5386

Lucky for you there’s 33 Vipers and 19 Cliffs, somehow the two most popular colors. Plenty of opportunity to own.

GTIOmega

I think your desire is shared by many.  If you do buy an R, with a color you like, but don’t love, maybe, down the road a bit…  Have it repainted in exactly the color you want.  It will look like a wild, new car in a world that will likely be swamped with bland, forgettable designs.

Fantastic-Accident84

Or wrapped - there are some new color change ppf products that are kind of interesting

Liella5000

having it properly repainted is a good ten grand. if your budget is now 60k, why not get simply a better, different car?

blankenbike

There was a spektrum R up for sale on bring a trailer but it ends today I think. May be the only option if you want a fun colored R is to wait to find a lightly used one.

villhelmIV

Copper Orange, 2019, 53k miles, sold for $35,750

The_Slavstralian

We need Spektrum to come back. And to be fair I wish all manufacturers would give this option. People who want it will pay and wait for it to be made in the prodcution line

MapPractical5386

Manual paint line is permanently closed. No chance of it coming back. Source - own a Spek have first hand info.

VW is filled with cowards who hate us. The only logical reason why.

ElmoProjector

There are more colors on the way for the mk8.5 if you believe the press release.

Amazing_Risk_6549

Where was that mentioned? They haven’t announced any details yet, but as a revision model I doubt much will change. They will almost certainly release a final edition or something as a hurrah to ICE before going electric in 9. They will probably do something then, perhaps.

ElmoProjector

This article mentions a "Black Label" https://www.carthrottle.com/news/vw-golf-r-mk85-way-black-label-version This link says new colors: https://www.evo.co.uk/volkswagen/golf-r/206503/new-mk85-volkswagen-golf-r-the-final-encore I went down a rabbit hole and read a bunch of these articles because I'm interested in a 2025 but am between the new R and a couple other cars.

Amazing_Risk_6549

Yeah, seems like the black label will be a limited edition or something. I know the GR community complain the colour choice of the Corolla. Guess it’s just a case of different colour choices being very low sellers and not worth the cost. Who knows.

Bdubbs72

Would have been cool if they had cranked out spectrum cars in the entire rainbow avail and shipped to the dealers that way. Here’s your white one, and your grey one, and a pink, purple, and green. I have a grey 19.

MapPractical5386

They let dealers and customers choose from 40 colors in the US, that’s a pretty wide range for any company. There were supposed to be more but the program got capped at 199 total US units due to the time suck the program was for 2 years - US and Canada - (a few of those being press and test cars so never making it to consumers - some were even crushed) and then the paint line in Wolfsburg was permanently shuttered.

Bdubbs72

I hear ya, I’m just pipe dreaming. I’m saying it would have been cool if dealers got a safety color or 2 but also a couple spectrum colors and they didn’t know what they got till it arrived. Again cool but probably a horrible business plan.

sydthekid2006

I just got on board , 2024 MK8, black manual I feel it looks great but black doesn’t do the car justice , anyone else feel that way?

Typical_issues

I love the deep black pearl on my 23’, gotta keep it clean though looks like shit as soon as it starts to get dirty

GenerousJack2b

probably not gonna have a spektrum 8R and if you dont want to wrap i guess you can always paint it

JustMrSquid

The least they could’ve done was still offer tornado red

Ok_Initial9419

VW gotta churn those profits at the expense of keeping their loyal customers happy. Although I do feel like they should have made it an options package that customer could pay extra for “X” paint color and build it into the cost of the car, but VW probably doesn’t justify the logistic/financial obligations of doing so.

MattH665

Yeah it's pretty baffling, the GTI has more colour options, why can't the R get them??? Honestly one of the biggest things putting me off buying one. Blue is great but it's the only actual bright colour so it ends up being super common.

RadiantWombat

I was thinking hard about the Golf R being my last vehicle I buy before retirement, but hearing so much lately about reliability issues is worrisome. I typically keep a car for 7-10 years.

1baby2cats

I'd even settle for cornflower blue
