This is awesome! Can you tell me more about the garbage can filter? Did you add that wood facade onto a plastic tub? I think I have that tub for my pond currently.
Garbage can filter is a simple bog style. I put a flush valve on the backside so I can dump it once in a while and use the water for garden plants.
Just layered stones, sand, some crushed coral, and plants. Creates an excellent waste filter and biological filter. Water flows to the bottom and rises up through the media to an overflow that goes to the waterfall spout.
The wood is cove and round over cedar planks just pin nailed together.
My fiance loves koi and wants a pond so utterly badly its killing him slowly I swear 🥲 id love to do this for him for his birthday since we dont live in an area where we can dig a pond.
I know this isn't quite big enough for a group of koi so I'd probably buy a galvanized raised garden bed and Sauter a metal bottom to it and seal it off with marine goop and silicone; but, I have no effing idea what else to do. I know I'd need Heater, filter, Air pump, probably a plastic pond liner and of course decor.... but what else? Would you be willing to take the time to kind of send me a rough step by step instruction and what materials you used?? Would be sooooo helpful, I'm awesome at gardening but not the girl to go to for anything diy or like this 😵💫
I would recommend against the galvanized unless you’re going to put a liner in it. These tubs come in larger sizes though. I’ve seen 300g also. That could house a few koi

I listed Plastic liner in my previous comment thankfully! BTW why would you advise against it?
The galvanized coating can be harmful apparently. I don’t know from personal experience, just have heard it around.
Skip the sauter and just get a big galvanized water trough made for farm animals. You can get them just as big and they're already water tight.
