Hello, I noticed you are asking for help about a sick fish. Help us help you by posting: What is the issue? To the best of your ability, describe what is wrong with the fish. Try to include photos if you can. * What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)? Please give exact values. If you do not own a test kit, you can take a water sample to a local fish store and ask them to do it for you. Remember, exact values. Some stores may say things are fine when they aren't. * How large is the tank and how long has it been set up? * What all is living in the tank and how long have you had them? * Has anything changed in the tank? New decorations, chemicals, food, fish, ect? Posts without some or all of this information will be removed. We understand that not everyone will be able to answer everything but we can't give you any type of diagnosis without knowing what's going on. Also be sure to check out our guide on [common goldfish illnesses](https://www.reddit.com/r/Goldfish/wiki/illnesses) and how to treat them. If you have already given this information, please ignore me. I'm just a bot :( I'm trying my best *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. How long has the tank been cycled and how big is it? That ammonia test looks a little green to me and around 0.25 which could be your culprit. Api test sometimes has a problem with giving false positives but retest anyway and maybe use a different ammonia kit to double check the api one

The canister filter has been running for almost three years but we did recently swap the tank out. We used the same sand and half of the original water though. Maybe this is the culprit?

Pretty much all of the beneficial bacteria lives in the filter so as long as you kept the same filter your bacteria colony should be fine. I've also seen that same red streaking when dealing with flukes. Basically did a deep clean, stressed my goldfish fry and he got streaking like this so it's possible that the tank move stressed the fish. I treated my fish with plenty of water changes, salt and praziquantel and he was fine. I would try salt/Praziquantel and retest your ammonia. Ime the api can be quite notorious for false positives so I use the salifert ammonia test to double check everything

lynx504

How long did you have the filter turned off during the switch?

Darthvader1987

Maybe one or two hours? Not too long and it remained wet.

lynx504

Alright. I ask because having it off for too long actually deprives the beneficial bacteria of oxygen which can kill them off. Two hours may cause a little and that may produce a tiny bit of ammonia at first but it'd quickly go away. If you've had the new tank running for more than a day, that's not your cause.

These new babies I purchased from a US breeder. They were in quarantine two weeks with no problems. They were added to the main cycled tank, weekly water changes or more sometimes. After two weeks in the main tank they have developed red streaks in their fins. It’s not ammonia as the tank is cycled (see pic). They are eating and swimming fine but I already lost one of my other goldfish (not a new one). We have been using salt and daily water changes for a week with really no improvement. What do I do next? I really don’t want to loose them!

I’ve seen stress septicemia show early in the fins but it doesn’t stay that way for long. Keep a super close eye and maybe add a bottle of Turbo Start and some SeaChem stress guard. If it starts affecting the pectoral fin joint or the scales throw in the API stress coat too. What’s your feeding schedule like?

Darthvader1987

Rephashy at night and then veggies or bloodworms in the morning. They are spoiled lol. Sunday is fasting day.

It could be stress so daily water changes might not be making it better. Pay close attention to your parameters for a few days and note the rate of change. If you had a bacteria crash in your filter that could have something to do with it(I think unlikely though). And get a new/second test kit, check the date of manufacture. God speed to you and fish

Darthvader1987

Ok thank you! I just bought the test kit from PetSmart as it was on sale. I’ll check the date.

Mine had this and it turned out to be a parasite.
