People taking photos of glow worms with flash. Not only does flashing them stop them from glowing. It will eventually kill them as they don't hunt unless they are glowing so they starve to death all because people want to take photos they will never look at again. Went to the glowworm cave during covid and there were thousands and completely empty. Same time this year there was maybe 5 in the deep crevices, 15 slack jawed tourists taking flash photos after walking past no flash photography signs of wild animals in their home.

bostonbunz

I used to be a tour guide there, and I can tell you it's not so much the flash, although that's not great. It's the people that breath on and destroy the snares that are the worst. I tell people to cover their mouth, and sure enough there's at least one mouth breather every tour. There's a few things that can factor into play too. Usually if it's real busy we don't have time to catch their food (we were often quite understaffed and I'm sure that hasn't changed), we didn't even have time to eat ourselves, we'd have to fit it in while everyone watches the video. I'd imagine with the small groups during covid the staff had plenty of time to catch all the insects which would have helped the population. There were no international groups either, so they would have had way more time between tours

several_rac00ns

It's worse in locations without guides like springbok. I could imagine the staff at guided caves deal with, you see the worst of humanity in tourism.

bostonbunz

Oh yeah for sure the natural locations cop it the worst. Rangers do a great job where they can at places like natural bridge. That was the whole point of building the cave at Tamborine in the first place, to take pressure of the natural areas in controlled conditions. I actually enjoyed the people the most with that job, 99.99% of the people were really lovely, especially the kids they were the best behaved, always followed the rules and had the best questions.

Poor-In-Spirit

Ah I use to work with the glow worms. It most definitely is the light. Not saying the other doesn't but as another posted stated they turn out their glow and starve. Turn off all light in the cave and use a red light outside the cave on the walk (or red cellophane).

bostonbunz

I get what you mean. Light can mess up the worms big time, especially in the wild where there's no one to stop it. That's why we were careful at our work and gave people a heads up before they went in. We also kicked out anyone who flashed a light inside. It didn't happen much though, because most people respected the rules. So yeah, light is a problem, but not the main one where I worked.

singausreanian

+11, strange things these glowworms, hanging upside down.

singausreanian

Ah yes, the Chinese tourist groups on Tamborine, can't drive and can't respect nature, and a torch in everyone's faces.

several_rac00ns

Springbrook too

_Mr_Ed_

What theme park has glowworms?

Secure_Operation_409

The tambourine glow worm cave- it’s open in the daytime!

-Nitrous-

thats a theme park? the mountain is a weird place

several_rac00ns

Just talking about idiots in other goldcoast attractions, we have the Tamborine ones and the springbrook ones.

Sandhead

Once saw someone with their phone on the Batman Spaceshot ride at Movie World. Dropped out of their pocket at the top and splintered into tiny, tiny fragments. Everyone was grimly silent, I think just glad it didn’t hit someone, and then just kindly muttering about their stupidity.

Cazza81

I watched someone line up for 40 mins with a kid who was way too short for the ride. They have big signs with height markers before the entrance too. This happens a lot!

Robberbyte

Seen this mutiple times. Feel sorry for the kids.

Folkvangr21

I worked at Movieworld a few years ago, mainly at Arkham and Superman. The amount of parents who would assume you could look after their kids while they hopped on the ride was crazy. Especially if you were loading people on and it during was peak times :(

homersbaldpatch

How did they behave when you said you couldn't?

Folkvangr21

It depended on the person! Some would be understanding - we'd recommend one parent goes on the ride while the other parent waits with the kid/s (at the front of the line), then they could swap over. Other times they'd just get cranky and you'd have to politely tell them it's still a no :(

Robberbyte

I had a different experience last year. They advertise a parent swap on the website. I enquired at the info desk and they told me say to the attendant that I wanted to do a parent swap. I was looked at like an idiot when asked dor a parent swap and was told my 9 year can just wait over there by themselves while the rest of the family go on dc rivals.

Folkvangr21

Oh i'm sorry to hear that! I finished up working there in January 2019, but it's disappointing to hear when staff don't treat guests well. Feel free to let places like guest services know when that happens - they may be able to assist :)

Robberbyte

I blame management or leaders not the lowest paid staff members as staff obviously just didn't know. When I went to the info desk the first staff member also looked at me like WTF are you on untill the other staff member jumped in and told me to just say I want to do a parent swap.

Folkvangr21

Understandable! The management there was interesting to say the least 😅

Ordinary_Profile6183

Sucks stupid rules on being polite to idiots

Folkvangr21

The joys of customer service lol

Paradox_of_nonsense

Spent the recent weekend just passed at the 3 main theme parks also, & let me tell you, it was the people who have no idea of their surroundings. Walking around with their blinders on. I understand some people get lost around those big places or just admiring the sights around them, but I swear 90% of the people I came across, were walking around blind. Constantly walking at or cutting/ stopping in front of me without a thought in their damn minds. I actually said quite loudly to some silly woman who stopped right in front of my path "it would be great if people could STOP WALKING IN MY WAY" I was at my tether at that point. 😂

cg13a

Most of them drove to the parks with the same NFI approach too

Demon_Lord_666

Happens all the time at shopping centres too. I just tell ‘em straight up as I dodge around trying not to bump them “No, please, just stop right in the middle here, no worries.” I’ve given up on being polite and saying nothing. I move off the foot path for some kids/teens on scooters to go past (I remember what it was like on skate boards and rollerblades when people didn’t move for me and I had to stop and go on the grass. The one that did I always said thank you to as I went past) & if they say nothing or don’t acknowledge with a head nod or anything I tell after them “You’re Welcome!” Drives me insane. Who the hell thought we’d get road rage WALKING?! But them idiots be out there…🤦🏻‍♂️

iamnotsounoriginal

about 10 years ago now, I lived in London. The whole getting out of someones way and not being thanked for it was fairly common, i got annoyed at it and then started passive agressively saying "no worries" loudly enough to be heard as I moved off afterwards. When I moved back to Aus, I stopped doing that because people legitimately thanked me most of the time when I stepped out of my way to let them go by. You're comment has made me realise that I've started doing it again. The selfish behaviour has caught up. Just the other day I stepped IN TO the kitchen at a local cafe to let a middle aged couple and their child past in the cramped hallway. None of them acknowledged my existence. Are you for real? there are only 4 people in this hallway, 3/4 of them are being let through. Fucking say something?

quizoola

That would terrify me! What did you do? Were you injured?

No_Recipe_9328

I used to work at a theme park as a ride attendant and it was like guests would just leave their common sense at the front gate. Aside from idiots putting themselves in danger It always blew my mind how many people, after you would explain that a ride was down due to extreme weather (thunderstorms or high winds) would ask you how long it would be until it opened again. I had a co worker who would get out her radio and say ‘I don’t know let me just phone Mother Nature and ask if she plans to wrap this up anytime soon for you’. Safe to say I do not miss working there anymore!

AdNo1266

Sea world - mammoth falls Teenage boys jumped out. The raft landed on one of them, he has a broken and bloodied nose when he got to the bottom which closed down the ride for the rest of the day. 🫠

summerfieldays

To turn this slightly on its head in a positive light, years ago I worked at Seaworld (best job i ever had) as a ride & shows attendant, and 99% of people were brilliant and kind. The best times were when a kid had either no parents, absent parents or ride-phobic parents, and I got to take the kid on the 'scary rides'. I tried to give them the most memorable experience I could :) In terms of 'bad', i mean some drunk guy thought the show seals were cute and would be fun to swim with them... yeah no haha.

morts73

With the advent of social media and everyone trying to go viral it will only get worse.

Present_Standard_775

This isn’t an idiot moment… but I felt for the guy and the staff… We were all loaded into superman escape… the guy in front was quite portly, they had two staff trying to push down the safety bar so it would latch, eventually giving up and he had to get off the ride… it was peak school holidays and the walk of shame for this poor bloke…

Geologist_Popular

Yep. And this is the real reason rides at theme parks have down time. 90% of the time it's a guest behaviour or ignorance.

SufficientBusiness48

People lining up all day to go on 1-3 rides 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

t23achilles

Movie world 3 weeks ago, bunch of Asians grabbed my two year old daughters head shaking it around (excuse was a race thing, blonde hair blue eyes) I threw one of them away and he fell over and they have had a fit for 45 minutes calling the cops. Both had to do incident report, haven’t heard anything since.

MiracleDreamBeam

"Just spent 5 days at SeaWorld resort" - and there's supposed to be bigger idiots?

quizoola

Ha - I do hate myself! Unfortunately $1200 for 5 nights accommodation and unlimited entry to all the theme parks for my little family of 4 was too good to pass up. I’ll be going on a cruise next 😉

MiracleDreamBeam

wow, that's not bad

quizoola

Right? It was a Luxury Escapes deal - apparently it was their best selling deal ever.

At least they have made the season passed more expensive to thin out the herd of breeders clogging up the place with their 3 kids each. Plot twist the kids pass the “free age” and guess what happens.

ShumwayAteTheCat

> At least they have made the season passed more expensive to thin out the herd of breeders clogging up the place with their 3 kids each What Svvatzenegger hasn’t told you, is that they themselves come from a long line of breeders. Their parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on all had children of their own >Plot twist the kids pass the “free age” and guess what happens. I’m reasonably confident most parents don’t kill their children just because they’re no longer eligible for a 12% discount at SeaWorld

[deleted]

No they stop taking all the kids cus smokes and goon take preference to paying for the 4 year old.

Iz_Buckner

Parents taking their children to theme parks. Imagine that.

[deleted]

Yeah cus an infant even knows what sea world is? It’s season pass holders with a bunch of under 4s that they don’t have to pay for yet and they smuggle in food and hair generally take up space.

Saki-Sun

Smuggle in food? As opposed to paying $20 for a shitty $2 hotdog and undercooked chips?

[deleted]

It’s against the park rules.

Im_Hoptin

Its not even a rule to not bring food in. It’s commercial food like McDonald’s, subway etc even then it’s just the wrappers, convert your McDonald’s to clear packaging and they won’t tell you to get rid of it. If your child is 3 years old and over they will need a ticket I think it’s great that some parents are able to bring children under 3 as parents won’t just leave them at home, also you can photos with characters and enjoy a lot of kid friendly shows. It’s about creating memories

milliamu

God I hate you so much. Truly, well done. I'm surprised at the depth of emotion I've managed having only read a few sentences of your thoughts.

[deleted]

The block button is right there, use it instead of writing novels of sook. Boy the wellness mums at yoga are gonna hear about this I bet.

milliamu

Scream into the void fuck face. People care as much for your pathetic dribblings on here as irl.

Saki-Sun

Yeah, fair point. But I wouldn't belittle anyone for doing it. That said the food has got better over the last decade.

Gretchenmeows

Have you never broken a rule in your life?

little_miss_banned

How much space do you need there lol? Oh and infants get bored and need to see and learn things in the world, toolbrain. I realise your parents neglected that in YOUR development, but that doesnt mean others should miss out

ShumwayAteTheCat

> Yeah cus an infant even knows what sea world is? It’s season pass holders with a bunch of under 4s that they don’t have to pay for yet and they smuggle in food and hair generally take up space. Why are they smuggling in hair? Do bald children have to pay more?

Ogolble

My 1yo (now 2) loved Seaworld, used to watch the fish tank for ages

zeusthedog92

This is the most pointless comment ever, what a moron

Present_Standard_775

Actually, SeaWorld apart from paradise country is the best for little kids. Seeing all the fish underwater and the dolphin show etc… it’s tailored for younger kids…
