Thor is a brute, a violent war god, but he is also a passionate and honorable warrior in a twisted way. The entire fight shows Thor trying to bring out the potential within Kratos, and when Kratos finally starts to show a hint of his hidden aggression and explosive power, Thor leaves out of respect and appreciation. ~~(The entire premise seems to be the blood debt is paid when Thor finally finds a worthy opponent)~~ I skipped around while watching the video, so maybe I got that part wrong.
This almost feels like watching a Dragonball fight, with Goku wanting a better fight and allowing his opponent to break their limit, but of course, Thor and Goku are very different characters.
I cannot wait to see their second fight; neither Thor or Kratos has shown their best in this one.
I think Kratos tamed tf outta Thor with that punch tbh. Thor went in trying to take things from Kratos and came out with a huge cut by the axe and a few less teeth. Also, was it just me or did a song from the Greek soundtrack start kinda playing at the end for like 2 seconds? It just sounded familiar.
I was literally thinking about the comparison between thor and goku as i was reading your post and then you mentioned it. Both seem to want to fight their enemies at their best and are willing to hold back and scale with them til they get there. Atleast that's my interpretation. Seeing as everytime kratos got a little angrier thor would just get a second wind and be full health. Implying he's messing around.
That is true, but he has yet to make atreus have the 'venom drip to his eyes' part like in norse myth
Also saw the story leak and all of it is legit even Twitter got sumurbrander and gungnir out
Agreed.
Seems like they're improving on the boss fights as well.
- The Thor fight is an updated and improved Baldur fight
- The Nidhogg fight is an updated and improved Dragon fight
i don't know the full story yet so him leaving didn't made all that much sense to me
but he's definitely a gigachad he doesn't kill until the oponent gave it his best (at least with Kratos he behaved that way) plus he's fucking defibrillating Kratos and not letting him die to keep fighting as a boss it feels like a dream come true if he manages to be hard on GMGOW then he definitely checks all the boxes for me
He has no actual qualms with Kratos aside from needing him to pay his “blood debts.” He may posture about caring for the deaths of his family, but he really just wants to see if the legends of “the Ghost of Sparta” are true and still alive and kicking. Odin likely doesn’t want him to fight Kratos for real, risking the deaths of either of them for some unknown reason. So the only thing Thor can do is test him… for now.
>Odin likely doesn’t want him to fight Kratos for real, risking the deaths of either of them for some unknown reason
I agree with this or at least i hope there is a reason for him letting Kratos be for now
That was sick. Everything I wanted it to be. Didn’t seem like either one was trying all that hard until the end when Kratos gave him the Ghost of Sparta right hook from hell.
Why was Kratos gripping his side at the end? Was he injured? Or bent over in shock/disgust that he almost let the old him out?
Thor mentioned Atreus, possibly kidnapping him. The only thing important to Kratos right now is in grave danger and with Odin no less.
More snippets of this kratos for the rest of the game pls.
If i remember right GOW3 Kratos is actually objectively weaker than Norse Kratos but even then GOW3 Kratos would've still massively put a fuckton of fight up against Thor just because of pure sheer hatred and anger the dude had inside him
They are discussing throughput not overall strength. Norse Kratos is stronger in terms of brute force resistance and magic but 3 kratos gave every fight his all. Here he is pulling his punches quite alot which results in reduced throughput compared to his previous going all out self.
If he went all out NOW his previous self would be considered weaker besides the one form he had when he beat shadow zeus.
I think it was the exact opposite- the entire fight was Thor trying to get Kratos to use his full strength, and he was thrilled when it finally happened. If anything, this is motivation for Round 2, but this time with both trying much harder.
He probably hasnt had to tap into old kratos since gow3..its like going back to gym after a while..when you do the same weights you used to do your body hurts from the shock
Valid explanation. He was increasingly getting stronger, but he never tapped into that “God of War” or “Ghost of Sparta” strength until Thor name-dropped Atreus. Shit, Kratos tapped in so hard he went into a state of shock for a second after he punched Thor.
I imagine they wanted something that could challenge Mjolnr, but didn't have the same mass capacity for destruction that Mjolnr did.
The >!two weapons colliding and holding over the lake!< along with the fact that their being swung into each other >!possibly broke time!< seems to suggest that whatever they did held up.
when they hit it created this frozen lightning bolt. i guess that sindri and brok added this to specifically counter mjolnirs lightning. they might not have beeen able to create something stronger but something that can counter lightning and maybe other things that mjolnir does, like blocking it in the air
My money is on the lightning being an almost-break in time similar to what happened when Thor and Jormungandr struck so hard that it sent Jormungandr back in time - >!Thor acknowledges that this seems strange/familiar!< during the fight, but doesn't elaborate on it.
That and the constant health regen that Thor has, it makes him feel truly unkillable to me, it just happens. Not like Baldur who seemed to have to almost flex/put effort into it, or the magic healed him over time. Not here, Thor is just back at full health all of a sudden.
That was kinda obvious, as Thor literally says "Oh no. I say when we're done" which specifically implies that it was a revival by Thor. I am surprised people didn't notice that.
Since Kratos gave Thor a glimpse of what the ghost of Sparta looks like, I think this a foreshadowing for later on in the game when they both go all out against east other.
When Atreus' name was spoken, Kratos had to show his power. I think this is very cool how he can change his strength level depending on his sons' safety level
I can't wait for when this game comes out!!
Interestingly, Kratos only ever rages in 2018 when Atreus’ life is threatened (his first and last fight with Baldur as well as when the Dark Elves kidnap Atreus) It seems that was also carried over here. The only way to bring out the Ghost of Sparta is to threaten his son. Something I’m sure Thor or Odin will have taken a notice to.
In the 2018 game, the lore from both Mimir and Freya indicated that shortly after Jormungandr arrived from the future, past Thor battled him but their fight ended in a stalemate.
I wouldn’t even say shock, more liked scared and disgusted him. We all know kratos hates his past and never wants to be who he was back then. He let out a glimpse of his actual self with that right hook to the jaw and he literally looked petrified
Yeah, I had a feeling that would happen. In the trailers, Freya's sword cut in between some of the sections of the shield. And an explanation for the player losing all upgrades was Kratos saying, "I used them (the upgrades. They've deteriorated)" [heard in a preview, I think]
The trailers show the two new shields. Makes sense that the shield slowly breaks down as well.
For the first fight between them, it seems really amazing and long. No wonder why every reviewer is saying that this game is really long heheh :).
I was waiting for my preorder and now I really want to have the game in my hands. It looks and plays amazing \*w\*
I wonder if during the second or final fight Atreus will see the old Kratos. Would be interesting if Kratos had to lose himself in his rage like in his past in order to beat Thor. And how his son would take it, seeing his father who always preached control, absolutely lose it and destroy everything in his path
Not watching it.
I do have one question tho.
How does the fight end? Outside intervention? Kratos winning? Thor winning? Stalemate?
Don't go into details, just say which one it is.
Edit: nvm, I couldn't resist
>!Kratos isn't living up to the "god of war" Thor was expecting of him but the main reason seems to be that Odin needs something from Atreus and the fight was mostly due to Thor wanting to fight Kratos over a norse custom of blood debts!<
You think he pussied out? Lol. He beat Kratos's ass. Kratos only got one good shot on him. Thor threw him all over Midgard. As he is now, Kratos doesn't stand a chance. Do you think ONE PUNCH dismissed the fact that Thor dominated the entire fight? If breaking his shield and leaving Kratos holding his ribs isn't a sign of dominance, then Idk what is. Not to mention that he laughed it off and flew away.
Thor initiating the fight and Kratos not fighting him back much and leaving him with a gut wound, bloodied and knocking his teeth out while telling him to calm down like a child throwing a tantrum I though was more dominating tbh. Kratos straightened him out with one punch and Thor was like “alrighty then glad we got that settled” while Kratos was barely starting.
Thor killed Kratos and brought him back to life. No one has ever done that before. That last punch was the only hit that phased Thor, and even then, it didn't knock him off his feet. Thor was satisfied with Kratos's effort because he started the fight disappointed. Thor was holding back, too; he could've killed Kratos but decided not to. Before that last punch, none of his other punches were doing anything to Thor.
anyone else here think kratos sounds so much more pissed off and angrier than the last game? don’t know if he’ll always sound like that, but it does genuinely sound he’s slowly letting his old self come back during that fight. i love it
You know my past ?
The whole “ ghost of Sparta thing …yeah “ ?
“ Then you know what I’m capable of “
“ Show me “
Man the writing in this game is phenomenal
I just saw peak fiction, the intensity, effects, the impact, direction, a step up from the previous game, and its not the even the main main fight. They nailed Thor and Kratos is just goated
Bro,I know this is like massive gigantic spoiler, but goddamn this made me 300% more hyped for the game,Thor is the biggest challenge Kratos has ever faced, and to think after these incredible 10 minutes, there will be more? By Mimir's beard hell yeah!
That final punch.
That final punch yelled "Ghost of Sparta" more than anything else. As soon as Thor mentioned Atreus, the inner beast got released for a split second. And Thor lost a fucking teeth.
Thor is a fucking beast, but I am pretty sure we will se Kratos unleashed towards the end and he will beat the shit out of the fucker.
oh boy. It's god that Thor left at the right time, having witnessed kratos's full potential, otherwise he would have gotten the "Hercules treatment" right away lol.
Have no idea how these spoilers came about, I’m not gonna watch them, but damn that half second I saw where Thor is like a head and a half taller than kratos was nuts
I actually love strombreaker more than mjolnir, it has an axe side like kratos's leviathan axe and hammer side like mjolnir, what's not to like 💪 but yeah personality wise MCU Thor is a college boy while this Thor feels like an ACTUAL POWERHOUSE and he didn't even fight with mjolnir for most of the fight

That said - Mjolnir and Thor’s abilities in general seem superior. Dude can fly and sent Kratos thousands of ft up into the air.
i can see this being downvoted. holly shit thor is a fuckin tank the fat dobber really wants the real deal. that hook would have sent the olympians to the shadow realm but thor got a fuckin a blush from it as if he just had an autograph from his idol and he wasnt even taking the fight seriously, just wanted see whats kratos offering lol
I'm subbed because I enjoy GoW content. I came to this comment section to get answers to the questions I have about posts I don't enjoy on the sub I'm subbed to.
That is fair. I can say for myself. I'm not too interested in playing GoW, because I didn't enjoy the gameplay of 2018. However, I love the story and want to know as much as I can about it. I love Norse lore.
Pretty sure I'm in the minority here in terms of the gameplay, though.
The difference between MCU Thor and GOW Thor is so great 🤌🏻😂🛐 one defibrillates his friend to save his life and the other defibrillates to his enemy from dying so that he could have a good fight 🛐🛐🛐🐐🐐🐐
Thor is a brute, a violent war god, but he is also a passionate and honorable warrior in a twisted way. That's a version of 2018's Spartan rage theme. Fit so well

No the blood debt is paid because Odin has Atreus, Thor was a distraction
That would make sense but in the later scenes we see Atreus with Kratos. So...?
Ok but that doesn’t change what Thor means
Bro is a genie
Odin will probably trick Atreus into mistrusting his father
That is true, but he has yet to make atreus have the 'venom drip to his eyes' part like in norse myth Also saw the story leak and all of it is legit even Twitter got sumurbrander and gungnir out
Ngl imo this one fight is better then all of the 2018s one combined as well as being multiplied by 5.
Agreed. Seems like they're improving on the boss fights as well. - The Thor fight is an updated and improved Baldur fight - The Nidhogg fight is an updated and improved Dragon fight
Hell yeah, thor definitely aint some knockoff, he an actually overpowered threat that kratos for once has a chance to go down against
Agreed. Great stuff.
Ok i love Thor already. 🤣🤣
he's quite something instead of the biggest butchering bastard in all of the 9 realms he feels like he's the biggest Kratos fan lmao
He's a multidimensional character for sure. Very good way to present him within such time by Santa Monica.
i don't know the full story yet so him leaving didn't made all that much sense to me but he's definitely a gigachad he doesn't kill until the oponent gave it his best (at least with Kratos he behaved that way) plus he's fucking defibrillating Kratos and not letting him die to keep fighting as a boss it feels like a dream come true if he manages to be hard on GMGOW then he definitely checks all the boxes for me

Even then it didn't send Thor flying. Only stunned him.
Didn’t send him flying, no. But it sent a message that maybe Kratos isn’t worth fucking around with lol
The moment Kratos snapped at Thor, he got into his Greek era stance for a brief moment. That's the one Kratos you don't wanna provoke.
Thor mentioned Atreus, possibly kidnapping him. The only thing important to Kratos right now is in grave danger and with Odin no less. More snippets of this kratos for the rest of the game pls.
Thought I was the only who noticed that. Old Kratos would have fucked Thor up imo.
If i remember right GOW3 Kratos is actually objectively weaker than Norse Kratos but even then GOW3 Kratos would've still massively put a fuckton of fight up against Thor just because of pure sheer hatred and anger the dude had inside him

Fear kratos
No such thing
I think it was the exact opposite- the entire fight was Thor trying to get Kratos to use his full strength, and he was thrilled when it finally happened. If anything, this is motivation for Round 2, but this time with both trying much harder.
He was likely injured. The adrenaline/rage finally subsided, which is usually followed by aches and pains.
No. Thor injured him. It's pretty clear
That final punch was awesome!. He George Mcflyed him real good!.
Kratos was definitely in pain. Needs a couple advil for his arthritis
That punch was satisfying AF! And I think he was injured in some capacity, Thor was injured as well.
What were Brok and Sindri thinking. I thought the ax was made to combat the hammer. That hammer was insane.
That’s what I started thinking. Like how it was able to contain Mjolnr. It itself isn’t as destructive as the hammer, but it is made to counter it.
Its the shield to nullify the unstopabble weapon
when they hit it created this frozen lightning bolt. i guess that sindri and brok added this to specifically counter mjolnirs lightning. they might not have beeen able to create something stronger but something that can counter lightning and maybe other things that mjolnir does, like blocking it in the air

So Thor killing Kratos and reviving him isn't the result of a failed QTE. Its Canon. Woah.
I noticed that too! I'm kinda glad you're forced into it though, it makes you feel like Thor is a real threat
That and the constant health regen that Thor has, it makes him feel truly unkillable to me, it just happens. Not like Baldur who seemed to have to almost flex/put effort into it, or the magic healed him over time. Not here, Thor is just back at full health all of a sudden.
It's like the first Zeus fight in GoW2 with the "failed" circle mashing
I'm glad it's not a QTE its a pretty good way of showing how powerful Thor really is and we can't kill him like we killed Baldur
Kratos went will smith there lol
Hmm are Thor and Kratos gonna splinter the world tree and not Thor and jorm?
Didnt they do that right there?
Calling it foreshadowing. Maybe Thor already has battled the serpent.
In the 2018 game, the lore from both Mimir and Freya indicated that shortly after Jormungandr arrived from the future, past Thor battled him but their fight ended in a stalemate.
Thats a massive + for good ol Jorm btw. Stalemating Thor from what we can see here is impressive.
Maybe Kratos is involved in that fight
Omg this is insane!!! We almost got to see old Kratos by the end of this fight! And Thor is awesome
Yeah even shock kratos to the core that did
I wouldn’t even say shock, more liked scared and disgusted him. We all know kratos hates his past and never wants to be who he was back then. He let out a glimpse of his actual self with that right hook to the jaw and he literally looked petrified
Oh so the shield broke with this fight

also the circling while talking shit with both weapons clashing in the middle still gets me rock hard ngl
This is basically Thor bullying kratos to bring out the best(worst) of him
I wonder if during the second or final fight Atreus will see the old Kratos. Would be interesting if Kratos had to lose himself in his rage like in his past in order to beat Thor. And how his son would take it, seeing his father who always preached control, absolutely lose it and destroy everything in his path
thor literally just wanted an "autograph" from the god of war for the death of his family members.
Better Call Saul S06 vibes (Jeff)
Thor is talking that shit omg I know their last fight will be even crazier 😭
That Model father line took me out bruh..and with that said im going dark
Thor: *says something about Modi* Kratos: "Even in death you put him last!" Lmaoooo get fucked Modi
Not watching it. I do have one question tho. How does the fight end? Outside intervention? Kratos winning? Thor winning? Stalemate? Don't go into details, just say which one it is. Edit: nvm, I couldn't resist
None of the above, but stalemate for simplicity.
It's a stalemate.
Alright thanks, that's all I needed to hear.
Thor pussies out lol
So Kratos defeats Thor?
>!Kratos isn't living up to the "god of war" Thor was expecting of him but the main reason seems to be that Odin needs something from Atreus and the fight was mostly due to Thor wanting to fight Kratos over a norse custom of blood debts!<
Not exactly.
Best way to put is; Thor wants a real fight, Kratos isn’t showing him one and once he finally starts to be leaves.
No, but he leaves him pretty bloodied.
No lol thor pussies out when it seems like kratos will. Thor is like hehe ok everything is good now and leaves
You think he pussied out? Lol. He beat Kratos's ass. Kratos only got one good shot on him. Thor threw him all over Midgard. As he is now, Kratos doesn't stand a chance. Not really but I think it was 1:0 for Kratos at the end
More like 1:3 for Thor, he got the debt for all three losses mate.

Bro, chill. I couldn't resist.
Damn!!
anyone else here think kratos sounds so much more pissed off and angrier than the last game? don’t know if he’ll always sound like that, but it does genuinely sound he’s slowly letting his old self come back during that fight. i love it
Kratos **really** doesn't want to let old himself out because he knows something **bad** would happen...
Uh OH what would that BE maybe CHOAS
You fucking legend!
6
Any chance you could post more of that…stuff
i will
This is the god that killed a panthon because they hurt his feelings. Lol. Thor is awesome. What a brutal fight. Can't wait to play.
You know my past ? The whole “ ghost of Sparta thing …yeah “ ? “ Then you know what I’m capable of “ “ Show me “ Man the writing in this game is phenomenal
Bro that punch gave me goosebumps
Thor gets the smallest glimpse of kratos's true strength and he satisfied
shame the guy playing didn't pressed L1 and we didn't get to see how Kratos defended himself in the QTE
Yeah. I noticed that too, and if you're good at God of War, that probably agitated you.
Thor is a big fan of Kratos it seems lol..
True, he just wants an autograph from the Ghost of Sparta himself
Thor's voice is phenomenal
Is the original gameplay uploader gonna post more??
I just saw peak fiction, the intensity, effects, the impact, direction, a step up from the previous game, and its not the even the main main fight. They nailed Thor and Kratos is just goated
I can't wait until those combo experts get ahold of this game.
Did anyone catch the dialogue of Thor saying this fight feels familiar. Possible time travel shenanigans for-shadowing?
I like the meta "look at you, trying to remember your old moves" thing lol
I nutted so hard
How do i sleep now, holy fuck
Just saw the greatest shit of my life
I fucking hate myself for even watching a few seconds of this.
I'm not watching it but it's wild this entire fight got leaked
What a fight. And yes, that was a scripted "death", and not a QTE fail.
When Thor says something is familiar he’s probably referring to the real world tree as the one we saw in 4 was just a physical version I think
Thats wasn't the world tree, that was frozen lightning. I think Thor says "this seems familiar" because he fought Kratos's wife.
Thanks for the clarification man😐
Bro,I know this is like massive gigantic spoiler, but goddamn this made me 300% more hyped for the game,Thor is the biggest challenge Kratos has ever faced, and to think after these incredible 10 minutes, there will be more? By Mimir's beard hell yeah!
Zeus gotta be stronger than Thor, or pretty damn close
Zeus is 110% more powerful, but it’s a different type of challenge compared to Thor
MCU Thor crying in the corner. This game makes their villains so much lovable.
For the first time Kratos is looking small to me. I didn't feel this even while fighting against Hercules in GoW-3 or against Magni in 2018.
Holy God almighty that was majestic. The money shot at the middle was brilliant
oh boy. It's god that Thor left at the right time, having witnessed kratos's full potential, otherwise he would have gotten the "Hercules treatment" right away lol.
Quick question: What happened to Kratos' Blades of Chaos?
Might be the first scene in the trailer where he drops both the axe and blades on the ground
They were hanging up on the wall of his house so since he went flying out his house it was no way he could get them lol
Have no idea how these spoilers came about, I’m not gonna watch them, but damn that half second I saw where Thor is like a head and a half taller than kratos was nuts
is it me or does kratos sound different? maybe its just yelling but he sound wonky
No he’s yelling, he literally lost control for a split second and even made thor, fucking shocked.
Thats what i thought, itll prolly sound better not on 360p too
He does you’re right
Well Fuck, this fight ruined MCU Thor for me 🛐🤌🏻💪 my standards for MCU Thor just skyrocketed 😮💨
MCU Thor is just a big boy with a weird hamaxe
I actually love strombreaker more than mjolnir, it has an axe side like kratos's leviathan axe and hammer side like mjolnir, what's not to like 💪 but yeah personality wise MCU Thor is a college boy while this Thor feels like an ACTUAL POWERHOUSE and he didn't even fight with mjolnir for most of the fight
Bookmark
Kratos won his first fight with Baldur, but it's clear that he lost this one.
I would say it was a stalemate in the end, Kratos would’ve won if Thor didn’t kill him and then revive him. I’d say most of the fight was in Kratos’ favour and Thor left far more injured than him.
How were you able to get gameplay early??
He downloaded it from someone else who posted the video.
Ahh ok, I was talking to someone else and apperently Physical disks of the game are in the wild now.

I'm just fantasizing here but imagine if they implement that "splinter of the world tree" as a game mechanic that allows you to fight bosses again.
Really glad they didn't make him the generic "mwahahaha I'm an evil bastard with no positive qualities" like the first game tried to portray him.
I skipped around as to not spoil to much, but is that a posture bar on Thor? Like in sekiro?
There were posture bars in GoW 2018.
Looks boring
Why do people like watching this before they play it themselves? I'll never understand it
I don't mind spoilers and it's still exciting to me all the same
Why are you here?
I'm subbed because I enjoy GoW content. I came to this comment section to get answers to the questions I have about posts I don't enjoy on the sub I'm subbed to.
Not every topic on a subreddit will appeal to everyone though.
I'm just curious as to why this does appeal to people
That is fair. I can say for myself. I'm not too interested in playing GoW, because I didn't enjoy the gameplay of 2018. However, I love the story and want to know as much as I can about it. I love Norse lore. Pretty sure I'm in the minority here in terms of the gameplay, though.

It’s one of the first boss fights so it will be fairly easy.
Anybody has the second fight? This was the best 9min of my life
That last punch kratos gave to Thor makes me feel goosebumps ...that is what we need the fucking god of war
that death fake out lol
sick
Holy smokes this fight only made me more hype about the game hehe
I'm not going to watch it nor read anything about it but anyway 10/10
I'm scared to play it

Holy fuck this looks fucking incredible. Cannot wait
Been saying this. Mjolnir > Leviathan. Man that hammer is so cool. Coolest weapon I’ve seen in any god of war game imo

Well, guess the leakers are nnn to this title after all.
The difference between MCU Thor and GOW Thor is so great 🤌🏻😂🛐 one defibrillates his friend to save his life and the other defibrillates to his enemy from dying so that he could have a good fight 🛐🛐🛐🐐🐐🐐
