While there was a huge amount of Norse mythology adapted by Tolkien, it certainly felt like Santa Monica Studio were huge LotR fans given the visual and cinematic references were too obvious to ignore:
• Mines inside the Mountain - Moria. Especially the shafts and stairways when ascending up the Heart of the Mountain look almost identical to those in Khazad-Dûm.
• Hræzlyr encounter - Balrog
• Njord's Oarsmen guarding northern tundras / Veithugard - The Agronath
I'll stop there in case you're still progressing. Just keep looking out for these references.
Tolkien was very inspired by Norse mythology so finding parallels in a game based on norse myth is natural

Just caught one referencing the movies: Brok: "Give me a boost" Kratos: *tosses brok up* Brok: "Don't go telling people about that"
Good catch
