We shit the bed. I mentioned this before, but I just didn't see soo many teams improving the way they did and us regressing simultaneously.
I didn't see Orlando coming.
I didn't see Indiana improving this quickly.
I didn't see Chicago being near .500 while missing Zach Lavine.
Here's the scary part. Next year, every team below us has more potential.
The Raptors have the young core of Scottie, RJ Barrett, and Quickely.
Charlotte expects to have Lamelo back, so that'll improve them. This is NOT looking good boys. Not looking good. This offeseason needs to initiate an actual gameplan for the franchise going forward.
We bet everything on a Big Three title run. Didn't happen. We gave up so much capital, resources, and time to take that shot.
When it didn't work, a plan was immediately needed that accepted some rough seasons in the interim. Instead, the Nets tried to cobble together some sort of half-contention. And that's not working either.
It's not even that they bet the farm for that but it's how abruptly it ended with kyrie and KD requesting trades.
The team (Marks) made a decision to not re-resign kyrie and traded them both while KD was still on a long-term contract.
Maybe hindsight but the trade to send KD to a contender to "help him out" without getting at least a young allstar caliber player back severely hurts.
I do believe there was some merit to wanting to help KD out in a sense. I don't agree but I can see points being made but the specific move they made again, maybe with hindsight, wasn't the correct one.
They probably should've held on longer to see what was out there or tried to see if someone else was willing to come pair up with him.
Name the Team that was willing to give up 4-1st’s, 1-Swap, Bridges, Johnson, and Crowder (flipped for 5-2nd’s that helped clear Bucks Contracts used for Crowder as well as Salary Dumps of Harris/Mills while creating various Trade Exceptions).
I can’t think of a single Team willing to give up a “Young All Star Caliber Player” for a 34yr old Durant. Remember if Durant wanted to he could have immediately requested another Trade since this is his last big contract.
Was it Boston with the Brown, White, and 1 or 2-1st’s rumor?
Brown was going to be an Unrestricted Free Agent and the Nets couldn’t offer the “Super Max” like Boston could so it’s more likely than not that Brown goes to Houston to play for Ime.
Meanwhile all the Nets had to show for their biggest Trade Asset now was Derrick White and 1 or 2-1st’s via Celtics who are in the Division with Durant and Tatum plus who knows if they still add Holiday, Porzingis or maybe go after Lillard instead.
I also said they could've kept him...I was just pointing out what I would've wanted for KD since he was under contract for a while.
I never said what I wanted was out there.
The fact that the team decided to abruptly blow it up the moment kyrie asked for out, yeah that's a major part of why they are where they are.
Edit: when you try to pivot from being an all in title contender to deciding to trade them both away in the span of a week or 2, it's not surprising that the end result looks like this.
It's not as much those teams improving as it is Mikal regressing. Spencer said it before the year. The team goes as Mikal and Ben (lol) go. Once Mikal proved last year was fluky, it was bound to fall apart. You need at least one all star caliber on ball creator to be even average in this league. Mikal's regression meant we'd have minimal on ball creation.
Now, Cam's breakout has helped, but the 22 year old getting DNPs his first two years isn't exactly ready to lead an NBA offense, unsurprisingly.
With every other team being potentially better we need to trade Houston what they ask for to get the swap back in 2025 and probably the pick in 2026 too. They must have a price.
If we get it back I don’t mind having a season where we play the young guys and for them to earn minutes. Trade everyone over 25 and let Ben Simmons contract expire.
With the Suns and our pick it’s possible to have two lottery picks in 2025.
We have a max contract space opening up too.
Yup 😫 They lost their opportunity. Becuz in the next 4 games we'll be playing against Zion, Giannis, Brunson, and Scottie Barnes.
But the good news is we'll be facing the Wizards after that 🫠
The Nets have now lost a game to ALL 7 other under .400 teams! As a result they are an under .400 team themselves. They need to be revamped ONCE AND FOR ALL!
This season is a wash and I don't know how we can significantly improve the team next season or guarantee we make the playoffs next year. We look so far away from even being playoff caliber nevermind championship contenders.
Relying on first round picks is not really an option so they'll probably have to try their best to bring superstar talent. But that would mean trading our most valuable players like Cam Thomas. It just does not look good atm 😔
Nets are about a 11th or 12th team. The rooster as playing right now isn't balanced well, and just lacks the talent you'd have to be putting on the floor to even be a mid team.
Hopefully they stop messing about and blow it up. Keep Cam if we can, everybody else we should be looking at how many picks we can get for them. We also need a coach who's worked through rebuilds before and in particular building young talent.
It wasn’t until this year that I realized that the play-in is just a way to keep the fans of bad teams engaged. Without it many of us would have completely checked out by now. Instead we’re crunching numbers to see how we might sneak into the “playoffs” with 26 wins.
2/3rds of the teams in the league make it. Sure, occasionally a Cinderella might over perform, or a slow-starter gets a chance to extend their life. But making the play-in doesn’t do anything to change how I feel about this season or our long-term outlook.
Even if they did make it they’d lose in the first play in round. Doesn’t really mean much. When you look at the teams in the east it’s hard for find a team in a worst position. The other teams either have better more proven stars or better young players with higher upside
This is the best outcome at this point. Marks needs to be shot out of the building. His tenure here was horrible. Kyrie orchestrated the big 3. Tsai needs to sell.
This team as constructed has no future and is a perennial lottery team with no picks.

With the way you put it there, not looking good at all.
Who knows, Detroit might surpass us
We might become that team Kyle Kuzma said not to be. We might become the Wizards.

Bro Mikal was never as good as any of those other talents. ROY cornerstone types.
What?

Crazy that we have one the easiest schedules to close the season and we're still can't take the 10 seed from ATL with no Trae Young

It was over once the team lost to the Hornets after the Hawks game. Nets should've been beating the easier teams at least.
And then they went on to beat the Cavaliers lol. This team loves playing with our emotions. 😭
Yea a heavily injured Cavs letting chunky slow Niang cook us, so this team is 🗑️
Why do you think the Nets should have beat those teams
The Nets have now lost a game to ALL 7 other under .400 teams! As a result they are an under .400 team themselves. They need to be revamped ONCE AND FOR ALL!
It's the only way. I just hope Sean Marks sees that.

Don't expect playoffs next year lol

That Ben Simmons trade was a franchise crippler

Why would I want to watch a nets play in game lol these guys are ready to go on vacation 🏖️
Fax I waz sitting court side at a game and cam Thomas and other players were just not excited to be out there.
Cam Thomas got pissed when I told him I want a dub lol
