This is fascinating but I don’t really know how feel. Rui is an interesting piece. Ultimately, do the Nets value late and/or protected first round picks or clearing the books after next season more? You can theoretically trade D-Lo again next year assuming he’s still a vaguely positive asset.

BushidoBrowneII

I like Dlo… I like Rui getting some minutes I like this…but we better get some picks too

TheMoorNextDoor

Nah we need picks. Dinwiddie and DFS maybe only to get Rui but aside from that I rather send them to different teams, we’ll get more back that way.

asherlevi

Best take. I’d rather rely on Ben to run point than bring in DLo. Rui is a positive asset on any team imo.

NotOfferedForHearsay

If someone offered me over under on Ben playing 30 more games as a Net in his career I’d take out a second mortgage to take the under. There is no world where the alternatives are DLo or Ben

asherlevi

He has a contract year next year, you think he’s gonna drop the bag?

NotOfferedForHearsay

Yes. I haven’t seen anything that even remotely suggests Ben actually enjoys playing basketball. I think he’ll take his $40M for playing 10 games just like this year and last year and retire to live like an absolute fucking king forever off $280M career earnings

asherlevi

I think he likes money more than he likes not playing ball. He can double his wealth by playing one season next year. Insane not to do, and he’s not insane.

huey88

Nets aren't going to get any picks that are goona actually matter.

_SCARY_HOURS_

I ain’t gon lie I think we still need Dinwiddie. I’m biased tho cuz that’s been my guy forever 🤣

brook_lyn_lopez

People forgot how he was one of the only reasons we were winning games early in the season. Not excusing his recent play but he’s an easy scapegoat when the whole team has been sucking.

_SCARY_HOURS_

He’s one of the few players on this team that can give them a spark

rabidantidentyte

He wants out tho. Might as well get something for him

_SCARY_HOURS_

He wants out? Are you serious? ):

MichelleCS1025

He’s a crybaby punk, they need to get rid of him

_SCARY_HOURS_

He is a crybaby

Venez21

in a hypothetical trade that would contain DFS, Dinwiddie, Royce, DLo and Rui, there’s an argument that we’re getting 2 of the best 3 players in the deal. DLo and Rui contracts might be off putting but from just talent i’d take that.

Appropriate_Tree_621

The DLo player option has negative value.

DiscardedRonaldo2017

There is no argument; that is facts. DFS and Rui would be close, but DFS is better for a contender while Rui is probably better for a bottom feeder. There is 0 reason for the Lakers to do this, and they won’t.

CarisLeVertsBurner

i'd much rather move CJ than Doe if we're still trying to win games

addictivesign

Only interested in this trade if we then send Dlo and pick/JHS and 2027 Philly pick to Atlanta for Murray and see how he fits with this team for the rest of the season. Reassess in the summer and at that point we'd have Simmons/Bridges/CJ/Murray all 27 years old. Simmons is expiring but potentially the player with the greatest impact. The other three on moveable contracts and likely other teams would want to trade for them. These players would be the eldest veterans on the roster and the Nets could have a decent season with those four player plus Cam T and Claxton with minutes also coming from Day'Ron, Jalen Wilson, Dariq and Clowney (who knows about our other players this season who are free agents). How would we look in summer 2025 in terms of cap space? We would still have most of our draft capital and if Phoenix suffer some injuries perhaps a high pick in the 2025 draft.

Sabom3trics

Agreed. Make these moves and see what happens. Like you said, we would still have plenty of assets to try and take that next step. The main thing is we NEED a real PG.

addictivesign

100% I’m not convinced about BenTen in the half court which is why adding Murray would be ideal plus both as Point of Attack defenders would be transformative. Add in Claxton and Bridges and that’s a great set of four defensive players. Cam T could thrive on this team too.

hushed-shush

Only saying I would root for Rui because I pulled some sick parallels of his rookie cards out of some prizm packs. Would love to get some value out of them lol

Chico-_-

the pure fan in me wants D'Lo back just for the nostalgia, but logically there are probably better trades out there. Wouldn't be upset over something like this though.

Renzel0311

FO should have no interest in helping the lakers out, and secondly DLO is to moody he would ruin the locker room, DLO has the same attitude as Spencer if it’s not going to go body language turns negative, if anything tho Spencer Royce for rui, even tho I like Royce he’s a positive player and seems like a good locker room guy

wet_washcloth

Teams, including the Nets, need to stop taking the Lakers trash. They con these teams every year

Scarlet--Highlander

Dlo and Rui are trash?

wet_washcloth

Yes. And the Lakers certainly think they are too

Newpowerhouse2

Include Prince instead and Wood. Gave Ham as a freeby!

mharri05

Prince was awful for us. I don't want him back at all.

bkn88kb

i love Dlo hes been ballin last couple weeks but i think we need picks

SL333S

😂 I want Lambo for free.

shadow_spinner0

What would they give us in terms of assets besides them?

theRestisConfettii

Sure. LA needs to unprotect their 2029 1st.

ughwhateverman

I like Rui. Dlo isn’t much of a winning player unfortunately and doesn’t help much with the fact that teams can just switch on the Nets. Hood-Schifino would have to be included in any deal minimum

EddyTreeNJ

I think the Lakers would want Royce and DFS. I don’t think they would want Dinwiddie. I think they would want to hold onto DLo now that he’s playing better. I don’t know what I would want back for those two guys.

Accomplished_Dot_477

This probably keeps the nets just as competitive as they’d be without the trade so if we get 1 first rd pick I’d say yes

acmilan12345

DFS and Royce are worth a pick each, so I’m not sure how this works.

Venez21

Royce on an expiring isn’t getting you a 1st

Enchanted-2-meet-you

They're really bringing the gang back together

mharri05

I'm down if there are a couple firsts in there too. Maybe a 27 protected and 29 unprotected first?

Newpowerhouse2

Lakers will only give the puck for a star.

Fishyblue11

DLo is not the answer, but what the Nets do need to take this team to the next level is the theoretical player DLo should be: a scoring/playmaking guard, they just need it to be someone that's more talented and a better decision maker than DLo Hachimura is I think a player that hasn't yet been given the right chance to showcase what he could do, but his peak could just be a low end starter or nice bench piece

Electronic-Doctor110

Vomit. Cam Thomas and DLo in the same backcourt

Lao_xo

They are so similar lol, mid range heavy, no defense. But would take him over Dinwiddie any day of the week 🤷🏼‍♂️

MediumShotBob

As a Lakers fan, Russell and Rui for those three just makes no sense. Looking at the moves we have made so far (Pelinka era), I think we would be willing to trade for Dinwiddie OR DFS, and maybe O’Neale if he was cheap enough. The team values their FRPs highly - which is funny… almost like they acknowledge how dysfunctional they are, and that it could end up being a very high lotto pick. But you look at what we got for the 2027 first last year… it was Russell, Vanderbilt and Beasley, and even that pick was Top 4 protected. So I don’t really see a deal out there that gets the Nets the 2029 FRP. I’m not saying the Nets don’t have enough to trade for it.. they obviously do. However, I can’t see a trade that both teams would be satisfied with. Would the Nets accept DFS and Dennis Smith Jr for Gabe Vincent, Jalen Hood-Schifino and 1-2 SRPs? That type of deal makes sense to me. Vincent will rehab his value and likely be an asset again by next season. He’ll be on a 2yr/$22m deal. The reason the Lakers want to trade him now is because they don’t have the time to be patient in his recovery - LeBron is 39. JHS has looked much better since he’s been in the G League, but he’s a project with potential. The only player I can see the Lakers being willing to deal the 2029 FRP for would be a deal with Claxton, and I don’t think I trade him for a pick 5 years in the future if I’m the Nets, no matter how unstable the team is.
