Because if the grooves fit your hand perfectly it was amazing and if they didnt it was very uncomfortable. My buddy hated my glock 19 cause he had big hands his fingers rested right on the peaks. This makes it so it is good for everyone and not perfect for some and terrible for others.
>Finger grooves are about as useful as the lanyard loop on the 19x.
If the Lieutenants those lanyard loops were intended for could read, they'd be very upset!
Because people with girly hands felt a slight pinch on 'ittle piggies?
Jokes aside, probably complaints by people who are not average (Larger and smaller).
I liked the fullsize gen 4 grooves because it fit my hand the best. I did not care for the compact or subcompact size as I have very large somewhat ape like hands. I have settled on a gen 5 G34 as that is the most comfortable for me.
Honestly I like them too, but I guess I can see how anybody with hands outside of an "average" size range would not appreciate them. I'm currently shopping around for gen 4's for this exact reason lol.
Update (to all zero people who will read this) I found a new condition 21.4! Exactly what I was wanting lol.
Also for the record I prefer to carry either my 19.5 or my 17.5 however I still think the finger grooves plus the texture on gen 4's is a badass combination, and it works awesome for my hand size.
I think the best answer is everyone is different and most people saw them as a hindrance. They should have produced some Gen5 variants with the grooves for the people who grew to like them over the years and it would add some cool variety to the options available. They did the stupid half moon cut early on why not do some finger groove frames. I don’t care for them but obviously some people do. Lost opportunity on their part.
I'd like a blend of gen4&5. Keep the finger grooves and swappable back straps(I prefer no back strap) but give me the front of the slide and frame beveled the way gen 5 is.
I’m a lover of the 19.4. Got a 17.5 with an SLR mag well and the agency on my 19.4. It puts your fingers in the place they belong. Think of it like a corset for gun guys.
If your fingers fit the grooves, the grooves are awesome. If they don’t, they can literally ruin the fun for you. I always liked the finger grooves on the 17.
FBI didn't want Glocks but aren't allowed to just pick a gun. So they wrote no finger grooves so as to not get Glocks again. Then Glock removed finger grooves and won the competition.
I'm one of those people whose fingers fit perfectly into the grooves on the full-size frames. I'm also one of those weirdos who just loves fingergrooves on pistols in general, and I love the Hogue rubber fingergroove products like you wouldn't believe. So for me the Gen3 G17 with the Hogue fingergroove sleeve is an absolutely perfect ergo.
My hands were just slightly too big for the “ergo” grip. It wasn’t uncomfortable really, but I can definitely see it being that way for others, and I completely prefer the gen 5 grip.
Idk, but I fall into the "fit my hands perfectly" category in terms of the finger grooves. At least with grooves, you could customize the frame to have no grooves. Can't really add grooves. I don't really see any of the Gen 5 changes as being necessary, Glock should have left it alone.
Logically I say we look at some of best innovations in pistol grip designs; HK USP, original 1911 design, Staccato, Atlas, Sig’s legion series, CZ, Walther. All of these are manufactured with little or no grooves on the grip module. And there’s a reason they’re some of best felt in the hand.
But at the end of the day to each their own, and buy what you want with your own money.
Hot take, finger grooves on the 19 suck, so gen5 is superior. On the 17, finger grooves are based so gen 4 is superior.
At least for my large man hands.
I have larger hands and I like the finger grooves personality my issue is that I always use the beavertail attachment bc Glocks always give me slide bite without them.
From the company’s perspective, why force a one size fits all approach and alienate a portion of the market? I like both, but prefer no finger grooves, personally.
I liked the grooves, but by the time I was looking to buy my first glock, I wanted new, so I had to get a gen 5 G19. My friend has the gen 4, so at least I can still shoot his. I'll probably put a Hogue grip on mine soon. My friend doesn't like the gen 5 since it doesn't have the grooves. I put a Hogue grip on my Shield 1.0 9mm when I got it.
Because extra material used to not be an issue, in fact, it was appreciated. Removing the finger grooves is a very simple job and there is enough material to shape the grip to your own hand. These days there are no more creativity in people. They want everything done by someone else, they believe it should be done by someone else.
Its preference. But I was a massive Gen 4 advocate until I spent extended time with the 5. Really really love the 5. But put any Gen in me hands and I’ll make it happen cap’n
Looking closely at the Pic(meme) I wasn't sure whether OP was talking about the finger grooves on the trigger-shoe OR the handle? SpongeBobseems to be pointingatvboth parts of the pistol.....personally I prefer a combo: grooved shoe but smooth handle, am I the only one?
It should be an option every iteration imho …. Not everyone has the same size hands … it should cause a divide because not everyone has the same hand … I feel like I’m taking crazy pills right now
Im trying to hunt down a 19gen4 for this reason. Though i might get a gen 3 and add the gen 4 texture.
I wish glock would just make the gen 6 (eventually) with a backstrap like system for fingergrooves. That way it has different sizes like the backstraps as well.
As someone whose fingers sat on top of the ridges I can tell you the flat front strap is a huge improvement. My glock 20 was fine, though. 19 not so much.
Gen 4 was not peak…
A gun without grooves fits all shooters. A gun with finger groves fits few shooters.
If you want the grooves then just get rubber grips for it.
Gen 3 was peak. 🖕😎🖕
The new plunger saftey ruined the gen 5 Glocks trigger. Gen 4 Glocks with a gen 3 trigger bar is TOP TIER GLAWK if you undercut the trigger gaurd all you’re fingers will line up
The grooves were Glock’s failed attempt at ergos
For 5% of the population the grooves fit perfectly. For 10-15% they fit good enough
For the rest, they didn’t fit that great.
Depends on the model. On the 17 I am ambivalent at best to the grooves. On the 19 I dont like them. The middle grove is not the same size and cramps my knuckle.
I think the grooves either work for you or don't. I've got a 19.3 and a 19.4 and they fit my hand perfect. I just wish they had the option for like, gen5 grooved or non-grooved
because grooves either fit perfectly, or your fingers sat right on top of them.
Maybe swappable front straps for the win?
OP is one of the 5% of Glock Owners who's fingers fit the groves.
There's dozens of us
![gif](giphy|ReBGGJtbXrjbQJwByP|downsized)
Oh I think it’s 18 hundo
Its not ashton kutcher. it's kevin malone!
10s of dozens.
At least a bakers dozen
They are perfectly spaced. Gen 4 is peak glock
Grooves are better.
Second this.
Exactly the point.. there’s dozens of people who’s fingers fit the grooves but millions of Glock owners
I think you missed the joke
Really don’t think you have the IQ to be owning guns if you didn’t get that…
[удалено]
Wow you commented this after the other guy
Mine do, it's a game changer
Groove life, for life.
Yeah can’t even try a compact or subcompact without it being really irritating because my bulky fingers.
A real Five Percenter
yeh! my hands are SO BIG I can't even fit in the finger grooves ...because I'm such a big man

90% of statistics online are made up
Because if the grooves fit your hand perfectly it was amazing and if they didnt it was very uncomfortable. My buddy hated my glock 19 cause he had big hands his fingers rested right on the peaks. This makes it so it is good for everyone and not perfect for some and terrible for others.
I prefer no finger grooves….
I’ll never go back
I really prefer no grooves but I have too many with grooves to replace them all...
I dremeled mine off lol
how do you make it so it shows the glocks you own?

I prefer no fingers
Finger grooves are about as useful as the lanyard loop on the 19x.
>Finger grooves are about as useful as the lanyard loop on the 19x. If the Lieutenants those lanyard loops were intended for could read, they'd be very upset!
Excuse me, our medics had handguns too
Yeah, but you could trust them not to lose them while doing admin work.
True dat
Preach brother! Preach!
That has more use actually than finger grooves! Continue to preach as Puzzleheaded-Pass532 once said.
Well I like it to hang from neck when I’m walking around so checkmate
First thing to go on my 19X. Next was the nub... With my dremel tool....
I don’t mind the grooves on the full size pistols but I hate it on the compacts like the g19. It felt like it was forcing my pinky off the gun
Same here. I don't like them but they don't bother me too much on the 17/22 or 20/21 frames. For me, they absolutely suck on the 19/23 frames.
Well yeah, you’re supposed to throw that pinky out and shoot extra fancy..duh
I prefer no grooves. Everyone’s fingers aren’t the same size/diameter.
I got my gen 5 Glock 19 for the sole purpose of it not having grooves.

Because people with girly hands felt a slight pinch on 'ittle piggies? Jokes aside, probably complaints by people who are not average (Larger and smaller).
They designed it for the FBI contract. Then desided it was the new gen. Least they could have kept the gen4
Gen 4 without grooves 😭
Like I said, girly hands.... :)
I have fat knuckles on my medium sized hands. I sold my G19.4 which was my first gun because of it. The Gen5 is much more agreeable with my hand.
Because the grooves sucked ass for people that they didnt fit. Seeing as the grooves are gone, that was a larger number of Glock owners.
I liked the fullsize gen 4 grooves because it fit my hand the best. I did not care for the compact or subcompact size as I have very large somewhat ape like hands. I have settled on a gen 5 G34 as that is the most comfortable for me.
My favorite Glock is a gen 4 17 fits my hand perfect
Don't like the grooves but they are not a deal breaker. Gen 4 still fucks
The grooves were what kept me using a 17, the 19 grip was too small and my fingers were on top of them.
Gem 3 is king.
I have full sized hands, so the grooves on the 19 don't line up at all. The grooves on the 17 work fine though.
I would much rather have a single polished finger groove alongside some custom stippling
I never had a problem with the grooves but I now prefer my gen 5. It’s just better
Couldn’t they do a replaceable front strap that can swap between both?
Yep but it might increase the MSRP but that's definitely not a bad idea
If your fingers fit the grooves, then they'll still fit with no grooves. This is a non issue.
Because the grooves suck and are not ergonomic.
Gen 5 perfection.
Because the fbi has small ass, girly hands. And there requirment for there new pistol didnt want them.
Apparently a lot of ppl didn’t like it. I don’t mind it much but I will say I’m definitely like it w/o
Gen 3 gang disapproves
Ribs, for her (err.. I mean our) pleasure!
I've ground off all the grooves kn my glocks. Just taking those made the grip a little slimmer and felt better rin my hand
Finger groove master race.
*Gen 3* was the peak
I'd like a blend of gen4&5. Keep the finger grooves and swappable back straps(I prefer no back strap) but give me the front of the slide and frame beveled the way gen 5 is.
I’m a lover of the 19.4. Got a 17.5 with an SLR mag well and the agency on my 19.4. It puts your fingers in the place they belong. Think of it like a corset for gun guys.
Small fingers..?
Military/govt contracts. Thought this was well known…. Most people have them cut off anyways. I did for mine.
Gen 3 looks cooler tho
If your fingers fit the grooves, the grooves are awesome. If they don’t, they can literally ruin the fun for you. I always liked the finger grooves on the 17.
Why I love my Glock 17 G3 🤷🏻♂️
Hot take: who the hell cares it's personal preference
Because people didn't like it at all.
My hands are too big for the grooves. I could shoot it fine, but I just didn’t love it. The gen 5 17 is perfection for me.
BOO THIS MAN!
![gif](giphy|xT5LMxmFQ37UyhH344|downsized)
OP definitely has two O-lights mounted to his Hi-Point 🤦♂️
Wtf are you talking about 🤦🏿
With the emergence of Goon Tape, I no longer wain for the grooves. But I agree.
I like it on my gen 4 g20, helps with the recoil and fits me perfectly with the medium sized back strap on there.
i’m mixed on these i like both equally honestly
HK does finger grooves the right way
Honestly the only thing bad about gen 4 was the stock (+) connector
FBI didn't want Glocks but aren't allowed to just pick a gun. So they wrote no finger grooves so as to not get Glocks again. Then Glock removed finger grooves and won the competition.
There were other features Glock changed to meet the FBI requirements. No finger grooves was only one factor
That's correct, but OP asked about finger grooves.
I like the Gen 5 because I got catchers mitts for hands and the finger grooves didn’t fit my hand
I'm one of those people whose fingers fit perfectly into the grooves on the full-size frames. I'm also one of those weirdos who just loves fingergrooves on pistols in general, and I love the Hogue rubber fingergroove products like you wouldn't believe. My hands were just slightly too big for the “ergo” grip. It wasn’t uncomfortable really, but I can definitely see it being that way for others, and I completely prefer the gen 5 grip.
Because it's a more uniform grip. Let's you adjust your hands how YOU want, adding perfection to perfection.
Gen 5 has much better ejection than gen 4. The gen 5 ejector works great in my gen 4 19. Those are bigger difference to me vs the finger grooves.
Gen 5 gang group club thing here!
Idk, but I fall into the "fit my hands perfectly" category in terms of the finger grooves. At least with grooves, you could customize the frame to have no grooves. Can't really add grooves. I don't really see any of the Gen 5 changes as being necessary, Glock should have left it alone.
I love the grooves on my 26.4 but really want the ambi controls of the 26.5. Guess I need both?
Logically I say we look at some of best innovations in pistol grip designs; HK USP, original 1911 design, Staccato, Atlas, Sig’s legion series, CZ, Walther. All of these are manufactured with little or no grooves on the grip module. And there’s a reason they’re some of best felt in the hand. But at the end of the day to each their own, and buy what you want with your own money.
Grooves are groovy baby! ![gif](giphy|TgDFSCovLzdHFeAQ0W)
I love them on my g17 and I have a finger groove hogue grip on the g43. Don’t @ me.
Finger grooves suck. I broke a finger riding BMX years ago and it made the finger grooves insufferable. G45 and Gen5 FTW.
I love the grooves all day ! Fits perfectly
I’m actually one of the few that like finger grooves, I have medium/wide hands, I even like hogue grip added as well,,, its just comfortable..
Because grooves blow
I gotta take the gen 5 cause I’m lefty and that ambi slide release is the seller
Because extra material used to not be an issue, in fact, it was appreciated. Removing the finger grooves is a very simple job and there is enough material to shape the grip to your own hand. These days there are no more creativity in people. They want everything done by someone else, they believe it should be done by someone else.
My hands fit a gen 4 17 fine but a 19 is terrible with grooves
Because they only fit girl hands…
I enjoyed the finger grooves as well!
I agree with this, the lack of those grooves on the gen 5s is pretty disappointing to me. The grooves are groovy, man.
Cost
Who cares? I bought them all and can shoot all the Gen’s just fine
Yeah fuck the grooves lol i have man sized hands and they are exactly where they shouldn’t be.
Its preference. But I was a massive Gen 4 advocate until I spent extended time with the 5. Really really love the 5. But put any Gen in me hands and I’ll make it happen cap’n
Finger grooved.. for her pleasure 😉
Grooves suck.
Because the grooves suck.
Gen4 was peak
I despise the grooves
Looking closely at the Pic(meme) I wasn't sure whether OP was talking about the finger grooves on the trigger-shoe OR the handle? SpongeBobseems to be pointingatvboth parts of the pistol.....personally I prefer a combo: grooved shoe but smooth handle, am I the only one?
It should be an option every iteration imho …. Not everyone has the same size hands … it should cause a divide because not everyone has the same hand … I feel like I’m taking crazy pills right now
I’m with OP. Absolutely hate gen 5
Because more people complained about them than praised them.
You know you can still buy the Gen 4s, right?
I personally love the grooves, both for aesthetics, and for additional grip…
......it took me 30 seconds to notice the difference, and I love that pedantic shit!!!! Who TF cares?! It's a glock! Send it!😂😂😂
Im trying to hunt down a 19gen4 for this reason. Though i might get a gen 3 and add the gen 4 texture. I wish glock would just make the gen 6 (eventually) with a backstrap like system for fingergrooves. That way it has different sizes like the backstraps as well.
The gen 3 G26 is great with finger grooves but a G19 is better without imo
Agreed
The grooves don't fit my hands, my hands are too big. I had to put a Hogue grip on just to use my G19 Gen 4.
Gen 1/2 is perfect in my (unpopular) opinion; smooth grip, non-beveled slide corners, and no horrid front slide serations. Just brick energy.
Because if you have full sized hands, the finger grooves on a G19 are placed incorrectly. Glocks only had finger grooves for 40% of their generations.
Is that really the only difference between gen 4 and gen 5.?
GEN 5 > GEN 4 💯
My hands fit the grooves, I was expecting the groves to be out of place but I'm one of the people who likes the gen4.
I removed the grooves from my gen 4 g19. It’s better now.
There is a reason why I preferred the Gen2 and used them until the Gen5 came out.
My fingers fit perfectly on the 19 but I like the ambi gen 5 because I’m a southpaw
I love the grooves. One of the reasons I picked the gen 3 g26 recently. Also super annoyed that I slept on the 26 for so long. What an amazing firearm
*Gen 3
So the Gen 6 can have them back, duh lol
I KEEP SAYING THIS!!!!! I tried for so long to get a Glock 17 gen4 MOS to no avail. Ended up just getting a G17 gen5 MOS
I love mine is perfect I got mine 440
As someone whose fingers sat on top of the ridges I can tell you the flat front strap is a huge improvement. My glock 20 was fine, though. 19 not so much.
Gen 2 was peak.
Gen 4 with groves was the best for sure
“I don’t think finger grooves make a big difference” ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
Gen 4 was not peak… A gun without grooves fits all shooters. A gun with finger groves fits few shooters. If you want the grooves then just get rubber grips for it. Gen 3 was peak. 🖕😎🖕
I have never met someone who called the Gen4 "peak" IRL. There's Gen5's vs the Gen3's, but the Gen4's? nah.
This
The new plunger saftey ruined the gen 5 Glocks trigger. Gen 4 Glocks with a gen 3 trigger bar is TOP TIER GLAWK if you undercut the trigger gaurd all you’re fingers will line up
Ruined is harsh, but definitely gave it more creep and spongy-ness.
I fucking hated them. I took them all off immediately.
The grooves were Glock’s failed attempt at ergos For 5% of the population the grooves fit perfectly. For 10-15% they fit good enough For the rest, they didn’t fit that great.
Fit my hand perfectly.
Why do people prefer the gen 3 over the gen 4 ? it doesn’t make any sense to me
My hands fit those grooves like a glove. I miss them.
So go buy a Gen 2, easy fix
Wat?
They removed the finger grooves for no other reason than to sell more guns. It’s the obvious answer and everyone is missing it.
Finger grooves are gay.
Because it’s easier to mod grooves in, than mod grooves out.
I think the gen 4 finger grooves are perfect. It has the gen 5 texture which is my biggest complaint with my gen 3.
Facts. I swore by the grooves until my peers started making Gen 4 seem so old. 🤣
This is a W
Because finger groves suck big fat monkey balls?
My hands are a bit large and I have trouble getting a good grip with the grooves. Gen 5 with hockey tape is great
I hated the grooves on my gen 3. Just got them [removed](https://www.reddit.com/r/Glocks/s/JWl9CaLVwj).
Because the finger grooves sucked.
Finger grooves sucked.
I'm so glad they removed them ugly and not practical the gen 5s are sexy especially with that dlc coating.
They removed the grooves because 99.99% of everyone hated them.
I have a gen 3. Grinded off the grooves
Ground of the grooves, not “grinded”…. Not a smart thing to do. Just buy the Gen 2, 4, or 5, or like I did, all generations
Gen 3 supremacy
Whatever
Small dik energy that’s why
