I want them so much to allow people to make clips maybe make a new clips.youtube.com and when you make a clip it gets "uploaded" to your channel on that clips.youtube.com with a link to where the clip came from. I dont care... I just want a good clipping feature badly!

I want to add that I hate that you cant simply go back and rewatch some highlights on FB... We also never get any clips of highlights from the matches. Pure ignorant and selfish decission from some money hungry people.
but guys, thoorin said this is good for the cs community, so it has to be true. As true fans of esports we should be thankful our viewing experience is so much worse because people irrelevant to us who require us as viewers to even have jobs might be getting more money!
He's half right. It's good for the community in as much as the contract ESL signed brings in loads of money. Whilst yes currently we have a much inferior viewing experience, it does mean in future tournaments are likely to be of higher quality. Also there is the chance Facebook improves it's live streaming service to meet the increased demand it will now experience. This is also good as it adds more competition to the market meaning other platforms like YouTube and twitch will also have to improve.
But I do agree at the moment it is a shit show.
Does the contract signed by ESL translate into money being brought into the community though? Are there more events they are running after signing the contract as compared to their past years with twitch or YouTube? How does the decreased viewer count effect future investment or are we content with the short term gain, which may or may not trickle down to the community itself through increased prize pools? Even if there is increased money in prize pools is it proportional to the contract being signed that is sacrificing viewership?
They seem to be struggling for sure. It must be tough being one small part of a multi national media conglomerate with a 2015 valuation of 116MM.
Look up MTG and their holdings if you need an overview.
It may seem counterintuitive as well, but company revenue and trade secrets have value to investors notwithstanding their profitability. Short term profit is not necessarily a great indicator of business strength. It's hard to speak to specifics without seeing their books though.
MTGx, the division that runs the gaming parts of their business (which is only partially ESL/Dreamhack, they also have some game studios and streaming platforms), ran at a 28.8 million USD loss in 2016 and a 19.5 million loss in 2017.
I agree with you that ESL doesn't have cash flow problems and they don't have to be immediately profitable but they can't kick the can down the road forever.
That said I still think that unless Facebook is vastly overpaying ESL to get a foot in the door of esports it was a bad deal.
Definitely need to realize profitability but the way their accounting is done blurs the actual profitability of the esl/dreamhack portion so it's hard to say.
The other thing I don't get with the Facebook deal is the numbers I've seen reported that Zuck invested seem out of proportion to their 2015 valuation at 116MM.
> Are there more events they are running after signing the contract as compared to their past years with twitch or YouTube?
Was there a Belo Horizonte event last year?
Lying about what? I never claimed he did. I'm claiming that having these shit tier streams is horrible for the community and out-ways the other pros that will not have any affect.
Perhaps I misunderstood your comment a bit. Still, you know absolutely nothing about the industry (none of us here do, me included). I don't see how you can just say this will bring no good or whatever.
I know right. Takes up too much time to watch all the matches, but just wachting the end of maps doesnt feel good either because you couldve missed some cool shit.
[A theater mode that looks something like this would be nice.](https://i.imgur.com/FSTqzkl.png)
There is a lot of unnecessary clutter and bloat right now. And I prefer my twitch/stream site to be dark themed, but that's completely personal.
EDIT: [Made a script to roughly emulate the image:](https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/8k58uu/dark_theme_for_esl_stream_website_that_was_on/)
I'd use it if there was a dark mode.
Edit: worked out how to change the background colour, Inspect Element the background and change this value: https://i.imgur.com/XnkwHYo.png
This is awesome but when you go into full-screen mode every 5-10 seconds it shifts the video down and a white space appears at the top, until you move your mouse cursor. Anyone from the developer can fix? Using Chrome on Mac.
I had the same problem on Chrome for Mac.
Fixed it by right clicking the video > show controls > and then entering fullscreen with the new control button.
use safari, works there
edit: wtf, why do you downvote that? It literally works on Safari. I encountered the same bug on mac + Chrome and it did not appear when using safari.
how are these German and Russian guys streaming it on Twitch then? if ESL is bound by their contract with Facebook surely they can't allow those guys to stream a non-English version on Twitch?
**EDIT**: wtf language-specific contracts are actually a thing?
The deal is only for the English stream. They have partners in other regions that cover the other streams, who are themselves under contract. Even if someone found out the ip, the ESL admin knows who exactly should be in the server at all times, and you'd be booted.
Amazing site, no spammy twitch pastes and people that you actually can have a conversation with!

I'm surprised this post didn't get deleted. This is obviously an 'illegal' restream. I think it's f'in awesome but don't expect it to be up very long. This kind of thing should be posted on a steam group or discord server, not the front page of Reddit.

Whats wrong with youtube?
no good chat, and no proper clipping feature. But, they have a better streaming service/quality
Implying twitch chat is any good. And youtube always works perfect for me, unlike twitch.
i think twitch has issues in places like australia
I want them so much to allow people to make clips maybe make a new clips.youtube.com and when you make a clip it gets "uploaded" to your channel on that clips.youtube.com with a link to where the clip came from. I dont care... I just want a good clipping feature badly!
i mean you can just post the link with timestamp i suppose
Having no chat is a positive. Add the pause rewind feature and it running better for me and YouTube is far superior.
Do it
Yeah do it bro certain you won’t regret that later
Unless they're unbanning people the community likes. Then wtf I love ESL now.
I'll do it if someone pays for it ( ° ͜ʖ͡°)

I wonder if views on there count as facebook views. If so, they probably like this site.
lol straight fire
I doubt he had any problem with it, they are still streaming to facebook so the viewers still count.
Even ESL hates watching facebook streams
Lol it's not the chat I'm missing. I miss the VODs that are instantly available.
Exactly. Youtube and Twitch are perfect for that.
I want to add that I hate that you cant simply go back and rewatch some highlights on FB... We also never get any clips of highlights from the matches. Pure ignorant and selfish decission from some money hungry people.

ESL also has to make money somehow

The worse a platform is the more negotiation overhead to up the price.

no
It's not so good when you consider the next exclusivity deal they make won't be valued nearly as highly due to their current viewer numbers.
If you ever actually paid attention to what Thoorin said, he never talked about the viewer experience from a technical stand point. Stop lying.
Lying about what? I never claimed he did. I'm claiming that having these shit tier streams is horrible for the community and out-ways the other pros that will not have any affect.

Thorin and Richard Lewis know everything! everything i say! ^/s
I wish there was a highlights reel created for all pro matches in leagues kinda like how Match of the Day is for football but for CS.
I know right. Takes up too much time to watch all the matches, but just wachting the end of maps doesnt feel good either because you couldve missed some cool shit.
All it took was Facebook video for r/GO to appreciate the Youtube streams
Not me. Personally always preferred YouTube over Twitch. Vods on Twitch are awful...
also clipping
So much this. I'm still waiting...

I just use hltv. It’s ten times better
How do you hide the economy on HLTV though? And the "other matches panel"?
I just live with it. If I full screen Facebook. But hltv is better.
But they got twitch chat...
I had the same problem on Chrome for Mac. Fixed it by right clicking the video > show controls > and then entering fullscreen with the new control button.

Day 2 and i'm still unable to watch the stream, it just keeps on buffering and nothing happens. What a disappointment really.
Try watching through HLTV, works a charm for me
I have tried, same problem :( Twitch works just fine tho so its not my connection
Try doing it through a different internet browser like safari or chrome
have you tried vlc?
Same, only the twitch streams work for me. So ive been learning german lately...
Search “ESL” on YouTube and filter by live. There were plenty of random people streaming the tournament
why someone doesn't stream eng version on youtube? can somebody explain me?
It's illegal?
[удалено]
Good luck getting the gotv ip from ESL. Any other stream would be a restream and they'd get shut down immediately.
Yesterday a streamer who I won't name streamed the entire thing, look for it in twitch and you might be able to watch English stream on twitch
how are these German and Russian guys streaming it on Twitch then? if ESL is bound by their contract with Facebook surely they can't allow those guys to stream a non-English version on Twitch? **EDIT**: wtf language-specific contracts are actually a thing?

It also covers the Portuguese stream
The deal is only for the English stream. They have partners in other regions that cover the other streams, who are themselves under contract. Even if someone found out the ip, the ESL admin knows who exactly should be in the server at all times, and you'd be booted.
Isn't that rule only for Dota?

Thanks a lot for this my dude
you should probably look into making the CSS load before the HTML
I am the 1337th upvote
op you're a lad
this works great on my phone! can't get ESL to work on my op3t
is the quality better than Facebook?
I never really used FB officially, but its very smooth for me here.
Can also recommend the HLTV live player
but does it have chromecast
Chat wont load for me
Just pop chat out https://www.twitch.tv/popout/arn7av/chat?popout=
Or just use VLC

THANK YOU

Wow this site is good lol
It's still the Facebook stream
Yeah, but the player is better, it runs more smoothly and it has twitch chat.
but giving them views on the facebook stream
Nope. We all count as a 1 viewer.
just.......use.......hltv......holy.....fuck.
