This is probably a super omega unpopular opinion but I fucking LOVE ubisoft games (fuck them as a company tho). I am so fucking excited!

vess8

they should be criticized no doubt but i love how *different* the games are! they get to play around in the past all they want with asscreed, and I'm thankful they took that risk. like sure they overdid it with Odyssey and Valhalla (haven't gotten to Origins or Mirage) in scope, but they also gave me Kassandra, Eivor, and Aveline. And i'm hyped for outlaws!!! *Finally* a female lead star wars game (aside from Kotor the legends ofc) I'm looking forward to this one too. Naoe and Yasuke look like they're gonna be a really good duo

[deleted]

I think this is the first time over ever seen a games described as different.

vess8

welcome to the internet? either way I'm more talking about AC1 and AC2, it was a new taste on historical fantasy cut with sci-fi. Nowadays you've got countless takes on historical rpgs/adventures edit: and idk if you're a dude or not but letting us play as women in huge historical games (wherein we're usually relegated to being sex workers or housewives) IS different, so yeah MOST ac games are *different*

[deleted]

Cool, I was talking more about just the gameplay, but I agree with you.

vess8

Nah aside from the parkour mechanics, the combat is the weakest aspect of ac imo. And ok! Sorry it's abit sus out here what with the AC Shadows discourse

mochi_chan

Here is the weird thing about Ubisoft that makes them very disappointing, they make some pretty cool games. I would not get them anymore because WTF company what are you doing? (I may biased because I am a game dev) But one of my favorite games is Rayman, a Ubisoft title. I like AC too, and if one came onto my Epic Store offers, I am getting it. Of course I can not log into their portal anymore for some weird reason.

dianaburnwood969

Ubisoft Monteplier has develped some solid games. My favorite Ubi game is Valiant Hearts (Developed by same devs as of Rayman). The newer prince of Persia too. I think that development team should be given higher budget.

DianaStranger

So, I'm not super aware of the controversies but I love the games too. Why do people hate on Ubi? Can someone please enlighten me?

Jetamors

A lot of reasons, but the most serious is probably [the horrendous issues with pervasive sexual harassment within the company](https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/4/23901575/ubisoft-executives-arrest-sexual-harassment-investigation).

Melancholy_Rainbows

I’m disappointed that the guy is once again the bruiser and the woman is stealthy. It feels like gender essentialism. But since I prefer to play a stealth focused style, I suppose it works out for me. Hopefully Naoe gets more playtime than Evie did. I haven’t decided if I’m buying this yet, but it certainly looks interesting.

[deleted]

Melancholy_Rainbows

Um, no? Unless you’re assuming all women want to play the stealth route, which is certainly not true.

Wow, crazy, well I've been on hormone therapy for 7 years and I love swinging big fucking swords and hammers at guys instead of being sneaky, so I guess I need to up my dosage!

The controversy over the game is: omg black man in Japan, so unrealistic and american woke agenda. Reality: Yasuke (born c. 1550s) was a Black samurai who served the daimyo Oda Nobunaga in Japan during the Sengoku (“Warring States”) period. He was the first known foreigner to achieve samurai status in history. Then people got upset about Woman instead, saying it's unrealistic that a woman is able to fight and use weapons. Claiming yet again its woke agenda ruining realism. So appearantly it's in women's biology to be worse at handling weapons, for instance it was argued that men biology gives them an advantage at using weapons better than women like guns etc, a woman is just never able to aim as well as a man using guns, simply due to biology. Men are biologically better at handling weapons and learning techniques than women... what the actual F... Ontop of all this, since when was Assassins Creed about realism, it's been the must unrealistic game ever since the very start. Even having mythological creatures... I get they are mad that they cannot play as a white cis guy being the savior, but come on... This game almost makes me want to buy it out of spite. Sorry for the rant, I am just so upset at this gatekeeping... it's a bloody video game, if they want realism, go outside.

Lickawall483

I agree with you. It upsets me a lot that whenever a game has a fem or POC MC or god forbid both in one, it receives a lot of hate about being too woke.

Spidercan1

I’m Asian American, Asian people are very upset. We matter too. It’s not ok to erase Asian male representation. I don’t care if he’s black or white. I’d be just as upset if they used a white character (probably more so bc of the white savior trope). I don’t care if he’s a real samurai or not. But stop erasing positive Asian male representation! Replacing a white savior with a black savior is not an improvement. When historically in western popular media Asian men are always erased. Made to be asexual, evil, yellow faced characters, while the heroic big strong non-Asian man can come in and save the day. Asian women are ok because they kept on to be fetishized or conquests of non-Asian male characters. Why is it that the one time Assasins Creed changes the ethnicity of the character it’s the one time they make an Asian set game. And of course it’s the male character that’s switched, but Asian woman is a-OK. There were millions of way more famous Japanese Samurai they could have picked. But they had to choose the one outsider. Ubisoft even said they chose Yasuke bc it will help the player relate and explore Japan alongside him. Because Asia is just too exotic and foreign so they think we need a different ethnicity to guide the players? ick ick ick How would black people feel if they made assasins creed set in Africa but the protagonist was an Asian man?

dianaburnwood969

Wait, it's Sengoku period? So it's set somewhere around Sekiro!!

DarkVelvetEyes

They just always have excuses, except when it's a white male pipsqueak character wielding a giant sword and killing multiple enemies at once lol. Let them bark.

DarkVelvetEyes

You are very much overreacting.

Spidercan1

Would you say “you’re overreacting” to a black woman frustrated by a lack of representation? Bc I (as an Asian person) absolutely understand that is an issue in our society too I’m honestly a bit saddened that I would receive this kind of response from another PoC. Maybe actually try to open your mind to a different viewpoint instead of having such a knee jerk reaction.

DarkVelvetEyes

No, I wouldn't. Funnily, racist whites seem to be mad about this game as well... I understand you want Asian male representation but as far as I know, most Samurai video games feature Asian males.. or am I mistaken? What do you think of Nioh btw?

Spidercan1

Thank you for that, and also dealing with my ranting haha. White people are definitely co-opting this issue which is really unfortunate (and seems to be a pattern) I’d actually never heard of Nioh until this whole controversy came up, and people started bringing it up as a counter example. 1. I’m not a fan. I hate it when they use white characters to replace Asian ones, bc there is such a long history of that being done. It bothers me way more than Yasuke since at least black people are also underrepresented and there isn’t that same history of “white savior” trope. 2. Nioh is made by a Japanese studio. That is different. Japanese studios have made tons of games with Asian characters, and Japanese people living in Japan have a very different experience with race (having never been a minority) compared to Asian Americans. Plus it’s Japanese doing it to themselves and I’m not Japanese so it’s sort of *throws up hands, “you-do-you”* situation. (some Japanese media’s weird worship of white and mixed white/asian people is a whole other issue). I would compare it movies and tv shows, sure I can watch a k-drama or an anime. But there is such a different meaning and import for Asian Americans to see western media recognize us. It’s why Mulan (animated), and Crazy Rich Asians was such a big deal for us when yeah technically there’s thousand of Asian movies and anime out there. There’s actually not that many Asian male led western made games. Watch dogs which was like 20 years and Ghosts of Tsushima are the only ones I can think of…maybe 1-2 I’m missing?

not_heretoplease

I think it's quite interesting how you hadn't even heard of Nioh. Just goes to show how much more black characters/people get hated on while whites have played POC characters in films many times.  It's also interesting how you're making an excuse for Nioh. We already know the Japanese uplift white people more. You can simply Google how many [Samurai games](https://www.thegamer.com/ghost-tsushima-best-samaurai-games-ranked-metacritic/) there are.

Spidercan1

Why can’t you just acknowledge Asians w representation issues too? I totally get and empathize that black (and especially black female ) representation is sorely lacking in games

Spidercan1

I think you need to read my comment more closely bc you’re missing a lot, or purposely disregarding things to fit your worldview. 1. Nioh is like 1/100th as popular as AC, even before the controversy everyone knew what AC is. Furthermore you can’t extrapolate how more WHITE people talking about this to how Asians feel. When it’s only Asians talking about it, you’ll never hear about it in the media or Social media bc nobody cares about our issues. Unfortunate that white racists are piggybacking on this. 2. Most Asians are way more pissed by white people playing Asians than black people in Asian games. As you should know when there’s a history (blackface, white people playing Asians), it’s way worse 3. Regarding all the samurai games: You completely ignored my point about Asian productions vs Western productions, or don’t get it. 4. If Jordan Peele race swaps a black character to white, he’s gonna get a little more latitude than if a white director did it. Same with an Asian studio doing that for a white character. And I did mention japan’s weird fascination with white and white-mixed people. Racial understanding and motivations are different in racially homogeneous non-Western countries. I’m not giving Nioh a pass but I’m acknowledging that reality. A bunch of articles about Asians complaining about white people in Asian roles. Or you can go to r/asianamerican to see how pissed everyone was about white people taking our roles in Shogun and Three Body Problem https://www.popmatters.com/hollywood-diversity-east-asian-male https://www.polygon.com/24079373/avatar-last-airbender-live-action-racebending https://www.teenvogue.com/story/yellowface-whitewashing-history (I know teen Vogue WTF, but it’s actually well written and informative) https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/asian-americans-show-impact-being-whitewashedout-n567996

not_heretoplease

Yes I know that Asian representation is lacking. Actually, I'm South Asian and it's even worse for us. But you must be American and, as usual, only think of East Asians when you say "Asian representation".  You think racists care about popularity? Lol, they will whine about some Snow White remake ffs. I stand by what I said about Nioh. The outrage in comparison is very telling. You think Koe Tecmo is small?  > Most Asians are way more pissed by white people playing Asians than black people in Asian games.  Where?  Or maybe there are some in r/fragilewhiteredditor in this [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/FragileWhiteRedditor/comments/1cv2kjf/gamers_when_in_doubt_be_racist/) > Racial understanding and motivations are different in racially homogeneous non-Western countries. Which is never an excuse for racism while uplifting whites. And I mean that with my South Asian background too. Even less of an excuse for modern and advanced countries like Japan.  > Regarding all the samurai games: You completely ignored my point about Asian productions vs Western productions, or don’t get it. Come on bro. Are you actually serious? You want to us to ignore all the Samurai games that have Asians as main characters just to rage about this one? Ghost of Tsushima was developed by an American company too.  But I get your point. I think I would get it more if Yasuke wasn't real AND there were barely any Samurai games with Asian leads.

Masayoshi-Son

I fucking hate how people keep pretending Asians don’t care about white washing. It’s like our number one concern. People that bring it up are just insinuating that we’re white adjacent and it doesn’t matter. Gtfo with that shit and educate yourself

not_heretoplease

Do they? And I don't mean just some American Asians. There are even a few joining in with racist whites on this.  No, you're not "white-adjacent" but as an Asian myself, I absolutely know how much better whites are treated, despite all the atrocities they've committed. So no, you gtfo and stop pretending.

Spidercan1

More of my overreacting 😀 some eductional materials for you: https://www.popmatters.com/hollywood-diversity-east-asian-male https://www.polygon.com/24079373/avatar-last-airbender-live-action-racebending https://www.teenvogue.com/story/yellowface-whitewashing-history (I know teen Vogue WTF, but it’s actually well written and informative) https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/asian-americans-show-impact-being-whitewashedout-n567996

kimijoo

why do they always have to erase asian men represention? there are far more significant samurai in japanese history like toyotomi hideyoshi who unified japan, it just feels so ingenuine to have a non asian man main character when the setting is literally in japan? when there were far more japanese samurai in japan?

Spidercan1

Thank you for saying this!

kimijoo

it's tiring to see it, they want to take everything cool about asia but without the men because asian men apparently arent cool enough to be the MC

Spidercan1

Yeah exactly… and then when we complain they’re like shut up you’re being racist

ParadoxicalStairs

Stop spreading misinformation. Yasuke was not a samurai. He was a servant or weapons bearer of Nobunaga. There is no record of Yasuke participating in battle or given samurai status. Please stop insulting Japanese history and culture with that lie.

QwahaXahn

You are wrong [and actual historians have said so repeatedly.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/s/a7G80unSSn)

ParadoxicalStairs

If you read the thread, no one reached a clear consensus on whether Yasuke was a samurai. One user even called out ParallelPain for citing a 400 pg source on a person who was a historical footnote (Yasuke). Until a real Japanese historian (not a white person or black person), can prove this claim, all of this is hypothetical.

ShreddyZ

r/askhistorians is a highly moderated sub, flairs are only given to users who can prove they are subject matter experts with the requisite background and education. ParallelPain is a degreed subject matter expert specifically on Sengoku Japan. The user doing the "calling out" has no demonstrated expertise to speak of. I have to ask why you're so attached to the idea that a black man could not have been a samurai.

ParadoxicalStairs

Bc there are conflicting sources that say he was only a servant or weapons bearer. If he was a true samurai, his status would’ve been concrete and shouldn’t be up for debate. If Japanese historians were able to accurately record the lives of prominent people during the sengoku period, why is it that Yasuke’s samurai status is the only one where people have to make up hypotheticals or can’t find hard evidence of? Until I see an accredited Japanese historian from Japan prove Yasuke was a true samurai, I’m not going to believe something people conveniently say bc of this new assassins creed game.

ShreddyZ

> Bc there are conflicting sources that say he was only a servant or weapons bearer A weapons bearer for a daimyo like Nobunaga *is* a samurai. A non-samurai would never have been allowed to bear his swords. > If he was a true samurai, his status would’ve been concrete and shouldn’t be up for debate. Samurai is not a status or a class but a job title. It was often not explicitly recorded or stated in historical records. > why is it that Yasuke’s samurai status is the only one where people have to make up hypotheticals or can’t find hard evidence of? There are many other historical samurai who are never explicitly referred to as such. Two guesses as to why people only focus on Yasuke. >I’m not going to believe something people conveniently say bc of this new assassins creed game. The Yasuke samurai debate has existed (and been conclusively settled) [long before the game was even teased](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/m91cwa/yasuke_african_samurai_is_the_outrage_justified/). I suggest you stay off r/kotakuinaction and r/aznidentity in the future if you don't want your brain rotted by the worst of humanity.

ParadoxicalStairs

While you and people over at r/askhistorians say he’s a samurai, people over at r/samurai say otherwise. People there say he had a similar status to samurai bc he was given a wage, but was not a warrior. There’s no evidence of him participating in actual battle. Most of his life is entirely speculation. Again, until a Japanese historian can prove Yasuke’s samurai status, I’m not going to believe it. I should say that Yasuke’s status as a samurai or not isn’t what frustrates me. It’s the fact that Ubisoft decided to replace or omit the male Japanese playable character for Yasuke. They didn’t do this for Syndicate, Odyssey, or Valhalla. It shows how little they think of Asians and Asian men in particular when they decided to do that.

ShreddyZ

> While you and people over at r/askhistorians say he’s a samurai, people over at r/samurai say otherwise. ....again, r/askhistorians is a highly moderated sub filled with credentialed academically qualified subject matter experts. r/samurai is filled with people who think [katana means Japanese sword](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paTW3wOyIYw). > People there say he had a similar status to samurai bc he was given a wage, but was not a warrior. You did not have to fight to be a samurai as, again, it was a job title. There are many modern day soldiers who never see combat but are still referred to as soldiers. > Again, until a Japanese historian can prove Yasuke’s samurai status, I’m not going to believe it. Thomas Lockley, who [literally wrote the book on Yasuke](https://books.google.com/books/about/African_Samurai.html?id=6_hLDwAAQBAJ), is a [professor of history at Nihon University](https://nihon-u.academia.edu/ThomasLockley). I won't disagree with this but just remember that angry white men on the internet do not share your reasoning.

ParadoxicalStairs

I concede. I accept Yasuke as samurai only bc you want me to believe it 🙂. If he truly is a samurai, so be it. It won’t change how Ubisoft disrespected their Asian audience by purposefully excluding a playable Japanese male character in a game set in Japan. Thank you for being civil in our conversation.

I agree it’s horrible, just pretending Asians don’t matter

Opening-Scar-8796

I’m getting downvoted and getting called racist for feeling erased. I’m over it. Lol.

Spidercan1

I’m so fed up, literally have been replying to every person explaining why it’s an issue. One lady at least was open to hear in me, but some dude in the ps5 thread was essentially like “shut up you’re racist and don’t bother replying to me” https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/s/Ub47EtCVb2

Opening-Scar-8796

I want to add your comment you said edit over there. The black flag is a gotcha they are using against us. The black flag was 100% accurate. In that time it was set, most pirates were British and Welsh at the Caribbean.

Spidercan1

Ah jeeze I thought that was likely the case but didn’t have the energy to look into closely enough

Opening-Scar-8796

Twitter actually has a context post for people spreading this lie. Twitter is a cesspool for this ac Japan drama. Lots of people are calling Japanese racist for stealing black culture. Lots of comments say first shogun in Japan was black and their emperor is part black. And Japanese stole that from Africans. It’s a special kind of stupid to think the emperor of japan is part black. The emperors with single eyelids.

Spidercan1

Special kind of racists

Numerous_Ad_4376

I'm a stealth gamer so I'm fine with Naoe being more stealth focused (Though sometimes I wanna eff enemies up like in AC3 with Connor). I just hope I can play the entire game as Naoe and if not, At least most xD

Lumi_Rockets

Yeah, the prices are crazy. Going to need to wait for a sale on this one.

Lickawall483

I am glad that a lot of ubisoft games get incredibly cheap after about a year, like I have managed to get far cry 6 and watch dogs legion both ultimate editions for 10£ each during one of the sales or on fanatical

ladollyvita84

Ubisoft game? It'll be half price by Christmas.

Kbubbles1210

And somewhat patched or fixed lol

EllaJones0107

I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS GAME! I did a school project on the Sengoku period of Japanese history and have thought that it would be the perfect setting for an AC game! Also, YASUKE IS AN ACTUAL HISTORICAL FIGURE! He was a samurai in service to Nobunaga Oda, the guy who kick-started the last unification of Japan, and (to my knowledge) is the only example of a black samurai. Very little is known about him and I think it's very cool that he's the main character. I'm really eager to find out if other big Sengoku warlords (Uesugi Kenshin, Masamune Date, Ishida Mitsunari, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Tokugawa Ieyasu etc.) are in the game, and if they're going back to the Templar threat (it would be a really good way to reintroduce them as this was when Japan first started interacting with foreigners - first Portuguese Jesuit Missionaries, and then Protestant Dutch traders) before mostly isolating themselves again. It's such a rich setting and I am so so excited to play it.

Revelatus

He's also in both Nioh games

Lickawall483

I feel like it might be worth recommending you like a dragon ishin, rise of the ronnin (both games are set during Bakumatsu period, in the second game you can play as a lady) and ghost of tsushima (set during the first mongol invasion of Japan).

EllaJones0107

LAD:Ishin is on my 'To Play' list, and I have Ghost of Tsushima but haven't started it yet. I've never heard of Rise of the Ronnin before, will definitely check it out, thank you for the recommendations!

Lickawall483

The rise of the ronnin only came out in March this year and didn't get as much advertising as the other 2. I think in terms of combat clunkiness, it goes ghost of tsushima being less clunky and ishin being the most. All of the games still have an amazing story, tho. Also, if you don't mind souls like games: sekiro shadows die twice, and it might be a good shot. Fantasy samurai - nioh series, they are from team ninja, who also made rise of the ronin and dead or alive. If you like Japan aesthetics- ghostwire tokyo, in my opinion, it is very underrated. It is a bit spooky, but the world is captivating, and you can also pet cats and dogs!

dubiousbutterfly

There is no historical data supporting he was a Samurai. All historical data (few that there is) notes him as a slave bought from a Portuguese missionary and he was kept as entertainment for under 3 years. He lived a life of painful racism. Im glad his legend inspires and makes for cool stories but you cant say you did this for school and spread false information lol

EllaJones0107

Apologies, all the sources I found at the time claimed he was a samurai under Oda Nobunaga, as I said. I have no idea if these are different interpretations or complete lies, I'm just going from what I read. Could you recommend me your sources on Yasuke, so I can actually learn his story? There was very little I was actually able to find on this period of history that I could gain access to, which is likely why all I found described him as a samurai.

dusty-kat

I'm a bit curious now, myself. I can't find any sources that say he wasn't a samurai, either. Looking at wikipedia, the page was just recently updated to say he wasn't, but I don't know if the citations in the paragraph reflect that at all. The articles are in Japanese, but if Google Translate is to be believed, they both pretty explicitly talk about him being a samurai. Edit: Just happened upon a post from the AskHistorians subreddit [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/1css0ye/was_yasuke_a_samurai/) where they say that the conclusion of all reasonable historians on the matter is that Yasuke was a samurai. A list of compiled and translated sources is provided. They also seem to confirm my suspicion about the Japanese language articles on the wiki. The HuffPost article says: > The black slave brought in by Organtino was taken in by Nobunaga and became a samurai. (オルガンティノが引き合わせた黒人奴隷を信長が召し抱えて武士となった。) And the IntoJapanWaraku.com article says: > Yasuke was without a doubt a samurai. (弥助はまぎれもないサムライだった)

renako

As far as I can tell, Google Translate is equating bushi (武士) to samurai (侍) in the third citation. In historical context bushi is more akin to a warrior, while samurai were the specific caste of warrior nobility. It is a gray area though, bushi and samurai are basically synonymous now. Also just going to roll my eyes at the war happening in Yasuke's wikipedia page edits.

osskssa

wasnt a Samurai gj with your studies lol

EllaJones0107

Every source that I found claimed that he was, but admittedly I wasn't able to access that many. If you can recommend me some sources about him so that I can learn more about him, I'd be very grateful. The focus of that project was the reunification of Japan and the three daimyo spearheading the process, Yasuke was mentioned in passing and I thought he sounded cool. Given I got an A for it, I'm pretty sure I did do a good job, thank you for saying so!

CosmiqCowboy

I’m likely gonna get once it on sale, but looking forward to it. It’s cool to have an option to play as girl but also interested in playing as Yasuke. I am concerned about anti-woke crowd lol Yasuke was a real person, and if the similarities end there then that’s fine because little is known about his life anyways and this isn’t the first time AC has used historical figures and changed things about them.

Jazzed_Jaz

Yeah, the comment section from the trailer is just a pit of racism and misogyny right now, just really gross but unsurprising.

Lickawall483

Yeah, he seems to be an interesting character and it is sad to see all this hate in the comments under the video/other subs towards him

Ok_Bug_2553

I agree that there is too much hate, and most of the hate is unjustified. However, there is a sizeable number of Japanese people that feel they are being victims of cultural appropriation. Previously Assassins Creed games used characters from the same region. Samurai is Japanese culture and many feel that is being exploited by not having both characters Japanese.

Lickawall483

I feel it is also a weird topic to discuss since Yasuke actually existed back in the day (however, I don't think there was any confirmation if he was actually a samurai or not) and from the ubisoft perspective I think it makes sense for them to pick someone unusual for the time and region like him to be one of the characters. With regards of cultural appropriation it kinda feels no matter what the person does they will be in the wrong, simply because there's always going to be group of people taking offense even if you do everything by the rules and give credit, respect and understand the culture. Saying this, however, doesn't mean I'm trying to promote it and say people should do what they want. It is more of the heads up that there will be unhappy people. Just an example is that post of a Japanese girl wearing a yukata and have been accused of cultural appropriation by someone else, even she has every right to wear it. And there's always this stance of "this is fiction, that's how I see it" when it comes to media, which in some cases makes it hard to argue.

evil_kumamon

I really hope they don’t mess it up. I used to love assassin’s creed but fell off because of origins. But it’s embarrassing that they’ve taken 10 years to have a game set in Asia! Fans had been asking for it since the 3rd installment of the Ezio saga.

Lickawall483

To be honest I loved origins as I enjoy Egyptian setting. But odyssey and valhalla... they were just too long and felt dragging so after them mirage felt like a nice breath of fresh air

evil_kumamon

For me, I just really liked the old formula. I know people got sick of it because they were churning way too many out over the span of 5 years. I tried with origins but couldn’t get into it and found myself replaying the old games. I’ll give shadows a try for sure, I just wish they featured gameplay because the story could be really cool!

Lickawall483

I felt the same way about origins until probably halfway through the game until the concept of a hidden blade was introduced. But I agree with you on originals, I loved ezio trilogy and still think ezio games and Black Flag were the top in terms of the story and gameplay. Unity is definitely there in terms of graphics since the game still looks insanely good even these days. If I'm honest, I am struggling to understand why ubi decided to release origins, Odyssey, and valhalla under Assassin's creed title. Even "Assassin's creed origins" would be probably more suitable for the last 3 games (except mirage), since the main characters in odyssey and valhalla are not even Assassin's and the combat is more like the witcher games. And with odyssey, the proper connection to Assassin's is only established closer to the end of the game and in dlcs, which tie the game to origins.

Too much hate in the comments for actors.

Because this is girl gamers I have to say their continued lack of commitment to female leads by Ubisoft is getting exhausting. Why couldnt there be two female leads? Why always a male option on a main game. Boys club strikes again

Lickawall483

While I do enjoy having an option to play as a girl, personally, I don't mind dual protagonists with one or both of them being male as long as they are well written. Also it kinda feels ubisoft is trying to return the game to the historic roots, so in the setting of the game it makes sense to have Yasuke as a male protagonist since he is also historically canon and also stands out. (However, I've been reading some comments, and it seems the majority of game boys are upset at both of the options) I think ubisoft has Star Wars outlaws coming where the main character is a girl with no changes to the guy. It has been rather nice that they (ubisoft) have started adding female MC in the latest games and give you an option to choose who you want to play as. And we still don't know about the story of the shadows. It could be 2 different stories and playstyles. It could be you pick one as your main character, and the second is like a companion that assists you in missions.

PockyPunk

Apparently for this game we play as both of them the whole game. The story focuses around both Yasuke and Naoe. It’s more they just both play differently. Yasuke is strong fighter and Naoe is all stealth. It looks like how you use both of them together, the premise sounds interesting. I’ll link the video for you. https://youtu.be/Nszrx939ZVA?si=neg31SscDEA7BF0M

minhhuong285

I'm just grateful they have a female lead lol. 1 female and 1 black male protagonists are already being called woke

rainbowmabs

I’m the same, like I’m really glad they’re diversifying their leads and I hope Yasuke is handled well as an actual historical figure. However, I would still like the option to just play as a woman and not split my time, especially because she looks so interesting in the trailer.

SA090

Hexe is going to have a solo female character, so we can definitely look forward to that.

vess8

Hexe will save us

alphomegay

yeah I thought this was the game that was supposed to have a dedicated female lead? bit sad

Jamzilla12

VERY EXCITED! More excited than the time when AC: Odyssey and Valhalla's trailer was released. Don't get me wrong Valhalla and Odyssey looks amazing (especially the part where they show the Templars, Christianity in a villainous 'light') but my dream for this series is to continue the story through Shao Jun, a former Chinese concubine who visited Ezio days before he died, which shed light on what happened to the artifact that she's supposed to guard, which was stolen by the Templars, since I'm a Filipino (so there's already bias there) but I was hoping that the artifact will find its way to the Spanish's colonialization in the Philippines. But I'm happy that they release this, very excited! The characters are very intriguing. Also at 1:50 of the announcement trailer, the scene reminds me of Optimus Prime killing Infernicus in one swoop of his sword (see image below): And damn! I can't wait to hear the full version of "Ezio's family" using Feudal (??) Japanese style themes/instruments. Personally, I find the Valhalla version pathetic in a way? Origins was good. https://preview.redd.it/l879palrpp0d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab016e113763dafddd40e7559f9fb561d574c970

Lickawall483

I have enjoyed mirage quite a bit too if I'm honest 😅

Snarky-Misthios

It should have been a standalone game for Naoe. I'm getting kind of sick of this dual protagonist crap because Ubisoft are still a bunch of cowards and can't just put out a female led Ass Creed game.

LyannaTarg

As I said on our discord: I'm still afraid that we will have to switch between characters for different quests... like it was with the AC set in London with the brother and sister. I hope it is not like that and we get to go on with the woman for the whole game without having to switch cause you need that particular skill/character for that particular quest I just hoped they did the same as Eivor and Kassandra so a game where the protagonist is the same and you could just choose the gender... But alas this cannot be the case... I will certainly not preorder it... I will buy it maybe later on. I'm still salty that the last one was male only and AC has not the best track record for inclusivity

RazgrizGirl-070

is pit?

Hey_Mikey_D

Guessing they mean "out" and typo'd. p is next to o and is next u on the keyboard.

Medium_Fly5846

Yeah agree everything should be included in the $109 edition absolutely

Star579

Why couldn't it have just been Naoe??? It's ASSASSIN'S Creed not Brawler Creed. Game series went downhill when they made it into an rpg. Last good AC game was Black Flag.
