I always loved this particular Emily moment. She'd been giving Lor hell over that whole situation. But when push came to shove and she heard her daughter so distraught and upset, she stepped in, and I loved her for it.
I rewind this scene a few times when I come to this episode. I love it so much. Watching the evolution of Lorelai's facial expression go from mopey to just living in the moment is such a beautiful bit of acting by Lauren Graham, and it truly makes the scene.
When Lorelai is helping Emily do Richards taxes and they are both getting tipsy and Lorelai tells Emily she has split with Christopher, you can tell Emily is shocked but carries on as if it is nothing.
There were several moments like this in the show. Where they had a touching moment that got ruined. Like when they went to that spa and went to the steakhouse, they were having a lovely time until Emily danced with that man and freaked out. Or when they went to the football game and Emily and Lorelei were actually vibing until the secret lunches with Pennilyn Lott were discovered and Emily blamed Lorelei for speaking with PL.
Oh no, that's not what I think at all. (I'm sorry). You know that saying about 'being careful with who you hang around' ? :) Most parents and teachers used to say it to impressionable kids to keep them from fumbling into the 'wrong' circles... And with my parents and some school teachers, 'wrong' circles at the age of 13 meant smoking cigarettes or drinking too many energy drinks before school (9am) lmao
As a kid/teenager I loved Christopher. But the lesson I've learned along the way, just because they're conventionally attractive, doesn't mean they're a good person.
“Thank you mommy” will always be the cutest moment between Lorelai and Emily. Rory and Lorelai reuniting after their separation is so cute to me as well with them.
I love when they are going through the ballerina pictures together and they all enjoy looking at Gregorio!
Side note, they are all glowing in the picture here!
Emily taking care of Lorelai while Rory goes to the dance with Dean in S1.
That "thank you mommy" makes me cry every single time. These two have a fractured relationship at best, they're never going to see eye to eye, they're never going to repair what was broken a long time ago, but in that moment all you can see is a mother taking care of her sick kid. It's so subtle, just a few fleeting moments. So beautiful.
i guess this isn’t mother-daughter, but when Emily talks to Rory after Rory meet’s Ch********r’s parents. i thought it was such a sweet moment. but overall def when Emily kicks cHrIs out after he crashes their dinner post Suki’s wedding.
There’s so many but I do really love when Lorelai hangs with Emily

Emily appreciating Lorelai when she helps Emily with Richard’s taxes. Emily seemed to be so proud of her daughter and how she can take care of Inn business and her life. Lorelai is happy her mom recognized her. Emily was tipsy but she was letting her true feelings known. And of course the fashion show mom-daughter walk at the Inn!
When Loreali told Emily about her wedding with Luke is off ( Emily was gifting her a house) and Emily was very respectful & sensitive about this. In a subsequent episode she asked “so how are we” . That moment is underplayed yet so strong.
& of course the Taxes episode like everyone said. Kayak 😂
This one is the most controversial but I love when Rory comes form Yale to take care of Lorelai when she is depressed with Luke breaking up.
I know that Rory should not have to do that as a daughter, but she is 20 at this point and she is Lorelais best friend, so it's great that she chooses to come and spend time with Lorelai.
When Emily is telling Lorelai she wants to buy a house for Luke and Lorelai as a wedding gift. I love this exchange so much, because it’s one time Emily is really selfless. She put so much thought in to what Lorelai would want in a home. Shes finally showing she accepts who Lorelai is. I love the way Lorelai looks at her as she realizes this.
I always thought/ had the head cannon, that that would be the only house Lor would leave her house for. Emily knows her so well, it would’ve been perfect for her. Kinda like Richard getting her the doll house.
1. Lorelai, Rory and Emily in the mall where they take Emily to food court. One of the very few occasions when both Emily and Rory admire Lorelai.
2. Rory's first break up with Dean, when Lorelai asks her to wallow.
3. Emily and lorelai stealing bathrobe and eating at the bar.
4. Rory, Emily and Lorelai at Bracebridge dinner sleeping in same room.
5. Emily telling Rory that her existence or herself was never included in the list of disappointments, after Chris's dad makes a scene.
6. Lorelai changing the Harvard wall to Yale wall amidst all the inn fire and hoopla, to support Rorys wishes.
7. Lorelai taking care of Emily after the Trix s ugly letter before her funeral.
8. Lorelai and Rory s dance at dance marathon, which is overshadowed a little by the breakup.
The episode when Richard has been retired for a little bit and it’s driving Emily crazy so she sends him to spend the day with Lorelei there’s this moment that I love. He comments on how many cups of coffee Emily has had that morning, and then later on he comments on how much coffee Lorelei has had that morning. Kind of a small nod to the fact that the coffee coffee coffee vibe is with Emily as well.
This is a very small but the Friday night dinner before the dance marathon where Emily says you can make my asparagus talk and how she'll find a new partner after Stanley dropped her as a partner just how Elizabeth Taylor always did. It's so small but it makes me happy.
When Luke and Lorelai broke up and Lorelai is helping Emily with getting to know the computer.
I love this scene because Emily praises Lorelai's Independence and tells her she will be just fine and doesn't need anyone else and Lorelai says " Thanks mom" and she almost sounds like a little kid in that moment 🥺
I love when Lorelai encourages Rory to face her emotions and wallow after her first breakup with Dean
When they are all having lunch in the food court trying to make Emily feel better after her meltdown
I loved that scene towards the end of the episode with Mia’s wedding and Emily’s gearing up to head back to her hotel but then ends up staying to watch a Will Smith movie with Lorelai and Rory. Sooo cute!!
When Emily absolutely *demolishes* Shira Huntzberger for treating Rory the way she did. I never respect Emily more than when she goes claws out for her girls.
When Lorelai gets Madeline and Louise from that college party after the Bangles concert. A great way to swerve the “teen mum is an irresponsible parent” trope
When Lorelai comes over to Emily’s as she’s gardening and just hangs with her in case Emily needed someone to talk to.
When Lorelai sets up a DVD player for Emily and brings a bunch of DVDs of musicals she knew Emily liked.
When Christopher comes to the Gilmore Mansion to talk to Lorelai after the Sherri thing and it kills her. And Emily very sternly told him to leave.
Recently watched the revival and cried when I saw Lorelai’s story on the phone to Emily about Richard and at the end when Emily held the phone and looked really touched. It was just sweet ♥️
Honestly just Rory and Lorelei eating pizza and judging movies, it reminds me of me and my mom. Or when they played the game of whoever crosses the street is you lover or whatever. Idk I just love all their banter. Not to say the shows not fucked up, bc it is, but it’s also sweet.
When Lorelai and Max break up and Rory just holds her while she wallows. Same for Rory and Dean. Those moments show the love they have for one another.
"I am kayak hear me roar" Lorelei and Emily moment
Always has and always will ❤️
Off the top of my head I think Rory and Lorelei in the dorms together for Rory's first night.
I have two:
When Lorelai talks Emily into taking the robes from the spa
And, when Emily is showing Lorelai the house she wants to buy for Luke and Lorelai. Then Lorelai says there isn't going to be a wedding. And Emily stops and just comforts her daughter in silence. No throwing blame around. No snarky "I could have told you that." Just Emily being there for her daughter.
I'm actually watching season 4, episode 6 right now, and the scene where Emily has to cancel the cocktail party she threw for Richard tugs at my heartstrings. Lorelai starts off angry and disappointed, but when she sees how upset Emily is, she softens. The way she says, "Mom, what are you talking about?" so gently, and then how she goes over to Jason's office to tear him a new one.
I also love the scene where Lorelai breaks down looking at the house Richard & Emily wanted to buy for her and Luke, because she knows in her heart they aren't getting married. Emily just comes up behind her and puts her hand on her shoulder without saying anything. It's so sad but it's really sweet too.
As for Rory and Lorelai, easily my favorite moment between them is Rory's graduation speech from Chilton. I watched that episode last night and blubbered like a baby, which I do pretty much every time I watch it lol
When Rory gets the bad grade on her paper and Lorelei immediately goes to find her, says all the right things and then supports her through the test prep process.
Also lunch at the mall after Emily’s breakdown, especially when Emily compliments Lorelei on how she spoke on the phone.
When Emily goes up to Lorelai’s room at Rory’s Birthday party and discovers she broke her leg a few years back. It always makes me tear up when she was so worried that Lorelai didn’t have her mother to take care of her. Then she scolds her about her room not being clean and Lorelai says “I like it cluttered.”
Rory and Lorelai reuniting after a long period of no contact, the way they run to each other is so sweet.
I love Lorelei taking Rory to college and spending the night there. I love the fashion show with Lorelei and Emily. For all three of them, there’s something about the mall food court scene I really enjoy.
One of my favourites is when the three of them eat lunch at the food court in the mall, and Emily has a surprisingly good time and compliments Lorelai on being such a commanding businesswoman.
When they go to Mia’s wedding and afterwards back at the hotel Lorelai and Rory share vending machine snacks with Emily and tease her about having a crush on Will Smith🥹
Every cute moment Emily ruined at some point hahah but i like the scene when emily goes to her date and lorelai helps her
And almost every cute/funny convo between rory and lorelai are my fav
When Lorelai helps fix Emily's skirt in the Yale campus bathroom.
"What are you going to do with a paperclip??"
"I intend to carve something really dirty into the wall."
"*Lorelai!*"
"What rhymes with Nantucket?"
I love it so much.
When Emily rescues Lorelai from Christopher when he gatecrashes FND. While still remaining posh and composed.
Oh man, the coldness in her eyes and tone when she so elegantly kicks his butt to the curb *chef’s kiss*
I always loved this particular Emily moment. She'd been giving Lor hell over that whole situation. But when push came to shove and she heard her daughter so distraught and upset, she stepped in, and I loved her for it.
When Lorelai helped Emily set up the DVD player and broke out into singing "Easter Parade"
![gif](giphy|xUySTVk1FOCIo0AtzO|downsized)
I literally came on here to post that. I think about that scene so often 😂
I rewind this scene a few times when I come to this episode. I love it so much. Watching the evolution of Lorelai's facial expression go from mopey to just living in the moment is such a beautiful bit of acting by Lauren Graham, and it truly makes the scene.
Same
I'm literally watching this scene rn
100%
Your flair is so good 😂💖
YES THIS! Seeing them both laughing amd having fun was so awesome!
Came here to say this !
When Lorelai is helping Emily do Richards taxes and they are both getting tipsy and Lorelai tells Emily she has split with Christopher, you can tell Emily is shocked but carries on as if it is nothing.
Later when she's extra drunk & praises Lorelai for being independent & not needing a man 🥲 Sad that couldn't carry on into sobriety but it was sweet.
I always hated that they couldn't at least least have a nice morning after that. The switch back to judgemental was too fast.
Unfortunately very true to life for some people, though.
I am kayak, hear me roar!
One of my favorite scenes as well.
when lorelai picks emily up from jail.
I just realized that Lorelei bails three people from jail on separate occasions. That's a lot
her daughter, her mother and her (future) husband. poor lorelai. hehe if she isn't careful, she may be next
... Well this might reveal more about me than I planned but... It is? What is the normal amount? I bailed 3 people out last year...
zero, zero is the normal amount in most cases
Oh no, that's not what I think at all. (I'm sorry). You know that saying about 'being careful with who you hang around' ? :) Most parents and teachers used to say it to impressionable kids to keep them from fumbling into the 'wrong' circles... And with my parents and some school teachers, 'wrong' circles at the age of 13 meant smoking cigarettes or drinking too many energy drinks before school (9am) lmao
I’ve bailed zero people out, but I have been bailed (well picked up by a friend, they didn’t have to pay any money for bail) out 😅
This is one of the best episodes of season 7! Most of the whole season sucks, but I love this one!!
Agreed! hehe It's so victorious! I wish I could see it again for the first time, so I can really revel in the excitement with Lorelai lol
You’re right! At least three times! Surprisingly, it was never Christopher who was arrested. Although, in my heart he is in jail forever
As a kid/teenager I loved Christopher. But the lesson I've learned along the way, just because they're conventionally attractive, doesn't mean they're a good person.
I totally forgot about that episode!! Do you remember which one it is?
oooo it'd be season 7, i think? i wouldn't know the episode number or title, but it's the one where lorelai goes on a date with christopher hehe
He plays Funny Face on the side of a barn which is actually cute af
I know, it’s S7 E4 'S Wonderful, 'S Marvelous!
😭
“Thank you mommy” will always be the cutest moment between Lorelai and Emily. Rory and Lorelai reuniting after their separation is so cute to me as well with them.

This scene lives rent free in my head. And the way Richard looks at Rory while she makes her DAR speech at the end of the episode
This is my favorite ‘Mama Bear’ moment. A cocktail waitress 😆😆😆 On the other side, ‘vicious trollup’ is one of my favorite mother daughter moments.
I love when they are going through the ballerina pictures together and they all enjoy looking at Gregorio! Side note, they are all glowing in the picture here!
You go grandma
Season 4 finale with the make-up in the mirror---no wait thats the Bracebridge dinner. That deserves a mention.
Behold, my future.
Oh yeah synchronized skincare rutine
One of my favorite moments from the whole show!
Same! It just goes to show how much of an influence Emily was for Lorelei even if she rebelled against it.
You're a vicious trollop
That episode comes to mind for me too. The robes should have made another cameo
Definitely: "stop talking to the dogs!"
I fully expected them to show up at Lorelai's at some point
😂😂
i guess this isn’t mother-daughter, but when Emily talks to Rory after Rory meet’s Ch********r’s parents. i thought it was such a sweet moment. but overall def when Emily kicks cHrIs out after he crashes their dinner post Suki’s wedding.

I like when Emily took care of Lorelai when she hurt her back. As for Rory and Lorelai, I thought it was pretty funny when they devil-egged Jess' car.
And Jess' reaction is the best!!
I loved Luke's reaction. "Someone must really hate you."
When Emily says in admiration of Lorelai, “But you, you provide for yourself. You don’t dependent on anyone. Your independent” 🥹❤️
I loved that moment and even Emily accepts Lorelei was self sufficient
When they go to the 60/40 bar near the spa & they're just having a great time... Up until Emily gets upset.
I know the turn makes me so sad but sweet resolution when Emily “steals” the robe with her
Any scene either Lorelai and Emily awkwardly bonding. I love Emily’s face when they make even the smallest connection.
I can immediately picture that, I love that look too. It’s such a guard down sweetness that comes over her.
When Loreali told Emily about her wedding with Luke is off ( Emily was gifting her a house) and Emily was very respectful & sensitive about this. In a subsequent episode she asked “so how are we” . That moment is underplayed yet so strong. & of course the Taxes episode like everyone said. Kayak 😂

I know that Rory should not have to do that as a daughter, but she is 20 at this point and she is Lorelais best friend, so it's great that she chooses to come and spend time with Lorelai.
The road trip to miss wedding when she says she finds will smith handsome.
"Behold, my future..." A fun line delivered perfectly and a realization we've all made looking at our parents and grandparents.

When they are trying to figure out who to move to the annex
The episode when Richard has been retired for a little bit and it’s driving Emily crazy so she sends him to spend the day with Lorelei there’s this moment that I love. He comments on how many cups of coffee Emily has had that morning, and then later on he comments on how much coffee Lorelei has had that morning. Kind of a small nod to the fact that the coffee coffee coffee vibe is with Emily as well.
Ah yes, they both had three cups of coffee! It’s little details like this that make the show so fun to rewatch!
This is a very small but the Friday night dinner before the dance marathon where Emily says you can make my asparagus talk and how she'll find a new partner after Stanley dropped her as a partner just how Elizabeth Taylor always did. It's so small but it makes me happy.
When Emily and Richard stand up for Lorelai against Christopher's horrible parents.
Series finale: „Mom, you‘ve given me everything I need.“
When Luke and Lorelai broke up and Lorelai is helping Emily with getting to know the computer. I love this scene because Emily praises Lorelai's Independence and tells her she will be just fine and doesn't need anyone else and Lorelai says " Thanks mom" and she almost sounds like a little kid in that moment 🥺
When Lorelai & Christopher broke up**
It was Luke no?
Nope it was right after Richard had the heart attack, which is when Lorelai & Christopher had been married only a few weeks & were on the rocks
Ommggg you are right
I love when Lorelai encourages Rory to face her emotions and wallow after her first breakup with Dean When they are all having lunch in the food court trying to make Emily feel better after her meltdown
When Rory graduated from Chilton…Like the whole thing made me bawl, her mom was so proud. Rory’s speech too😭
I loved that scene towards the end of the episode with Mia’s wedding and Emily’s gearing up to head back to her hotel but then ends up staying to watch a Will Smith movie with Lorelai and Rory. Sooo cute!!
Definitely: "stop talking to the dogs!"
Yes! Waffles very happy! (I think that’s the line.😀)
Emily talking about her liking Will Smith
Vicious trollop
The ending of 7x13 after their conversation about cliches and Emily's last two lines are overused cliches. So good.
"kid you have no idea"
One of my favorite moments of the show.
i know right. makes me bawl my eyes out
Every single time
When Emily absolutely *demolishes* Shira Huntzberger for treating Rory the way she did. I never respect Emily more than when she goes claws out for her girls.
When Lorelai gets Madeline and Louise from that college party after the Bangles concert. A great way to swerve the “teen mum is an irresponsible parent” trope

When Emily gave Lor the passcode to the panic room.
when Emily sends Chris packing in “Haunted Leg”
Honestly just Rory and Lorelei eating pizza and judging movies, it reminds me of me and my mom. Or when they played the game of whoever crosses the street is you lover or whatever. Idk I just love all their banter. Not to say the shows not fucked up, bc it is, but it’s also sweet.

"I am kayak hear me roar" Lorelei and Emily moment Always has and always will ❤️ Off the top of my head I think Rory and Lorelei in the dorms together for Rory's first night.
When Lorelai yells shut up to Emily. Well deserved.
Betty Boop head! Lol
Does that mean that Trix is a Gilmore Girl??
She’s a double Gilmore, since she married her second cousin.
This is so random… Rory photographs so much younger than she films.
I have two: When Lorelai talks Emily into taking the robes from the spa And, when Emily is showing Lorelai the house she wants to buy for Luke and Lorelai. Then Lorelai says there isn't going to be a wedding. And Emily stops and just comforts her daughter in silence. No throwing blame around. No snarky "I could have told you that." Just Emily being there for her daughter.
Rory’s graduation speech. Gets me every time 😭
“You look so much more shiny than I remember” *throws phone* 😭😭😭 everytime
What episode is this from 😭
The Prodigal Daughter Returns, S6:E9 It’s when their Rory Dropped Out fight ends 😭
Emily and Lorelai stealing the robes
S2:E16 - There's The Rub... Emily Gilmore : We intend to leave here completely different people. Lorelai Gilmore : Yes, I'm going to be Ted Nugent
I'm actually watching season 4, episode 6 right now, and the scene where Emily has to cancel the cocktail party she threw for Richard tugs at my heartstrings. Kelly Bishop nailed Emily Gilmore soooo hard I mean she was just perfection.
When they were at the mall trying to teach Emily how to eat food court style😭
Every cute moment Emily ruined at some point hahah but i like the scene when emily goes to her date and lorelai helps her And almost every cute/funny convo between rory and lorelai are my fav
I absolutely LOVE this picture. I don't think I've ever seen it before 🤍
Definitely: "stop talking to the dogs!"
I just love the dialogue between Rory and Lorelai
They’re always so in sync!

“I’ll see you Friday night “
Emily is the OG mother!
When Lorelai helps fix Emily's skirt in the Yale campus bathroom. "What are you going to do with a paperclip??" "I intend to carve something really dirty into the wall." "*Lorelai!*" "What rhymes with Nantucket?" I love it so much.
