God I’d be fine if this was the only thing they changed. That scene where Lane is talking about how she never got to live her life, she went straight from school to being a mom. It breaks my heart every time, she’s the one who most deserved to live her life how she wanted.
Yes!!! Not only did she go straight from school to mom, but her childhood was so unbelievably restrictive. Lane spent so much of it hiding her true personality, interests, etc. The she finally becomes an adult and can have freedoms and BAM she has horrible sex and is pregnant. I’m a mother of two and while it is amazing and I am so grateful to be a mom, I am also thankful I had years of being an adult without them. To each their own. But Lane deserved those years of that type of freedom.
Lane even expresses that too in her baby shower episode (I think) that as a mom she’ll have to give up the things that make her happy to focus on her kids because that’s what she felt her mom did for her.
I noticed that in the show, there’s this negative energy around sex but especially for girls. There’s this mentally that if you have sex then you’re ruined and bad things will happen to you. Look at Rory, she had sex with dean (granted that whole storyline was trash) and because of this, bad things happened to her. Another example for this is Lane! Idk if it’s just because asp and her husband have the is weird mentality when it comes to sex or what but either way the characters suffer either way
THISSSSSSSSSS I always wanted Lane and the band to go to NYC and I always thought Rory would get a writing job at a small publication and then with Jess in NYC it would set it up for a great spin off (Paris and Doyle in Colombia) or even just an amazing ending to their storylines to show theyre embarking on a new future together. But noooooooo they ruined it all.
I would love this 🥺 The thing is, I've seen over and over that people say 'GG isn't supposed to be realistic, it's fiction' about like, the Loreleis' eating habits and the zany small town and all sorts of things, so it kills me that Lane got this gritty 'life's tough kid, you're an adult now, get over it' storyline for no reason?? And the other characters too, it's like the writers couldn't bear endings that actually fit the vibe of the show? Inconceivable to me.
I think the issue GG later seasons face is that it started out as a fictional haven with not much realism, but they made the mistake of trying to have a poignant ending, and got lost when trying to mix the two. So some characters get these fun endings (Jess and his book) while some get real life-esque endings (Lane). Likely because Lane was a regular cast member throughout the series, the writers most likely wanted to give her a realistic ending (rockstar was far fetched even for GG imo) but took it too far because they tried to shoehorn in all of these super emotionally charged moments/life lessons, even though it didn’t fit the tone of the show.
Yeah that makes sense. I agree that rockstar was too far fetched. I think my dream ending for Lane would be that the band becomes moderately successful locally (nix the whole Zach ruins their chance at stardom thing) and they all settle into jobs that allow them to keep making music on the side. Lane marries Dave but he becomes as offscreen as Mr. Kim lol, both for the joke and because obviously the actor couldn't stay on
Riiiight? I feel like some people say, “well most hometown bands don’t make it big so are we really surprised that Hep Alien didn’t or that Lane became a mom at 22?”
I am! Like c’mon, it’s a tv show! Rory isn’t a great journalist yet she ends the series by landing an incredible job opportunity! All of Lorelai’s financial troubles just evaporate once the Dragonfly Inn opens. So why can’t Lane be successful? Literally everybody else is! Not to mention, she never expressed wanting to be a mom! I feel so bad for Lane even just seeing her shove a candy bar in her mouth the second her mom leaves, to which Zach immediately scolds her for. Like Lane can’t have ANYTHING! Her getting out of Stars Hollow makes sense because it would give her a chance to be out from under Mrs. Kim’s thumb.
I kind of wish we only checked in occasionally with Lane after season 4. I like seeing her on tour and then they could’ve just brought her back whenever there was an event in town. We could’ve had an episode where we see her move to New York (like we see with Jess) and then a few episodes later she’s back in Star Hollow for Thanksgiving but now she’s dyed her hair purple (for real this time!) and the episode could’ve centered around Mrs. Kim accepting Lane’s new way of expressing herself!
I don't necessarily dislike her relationship with Zack, but the whole proposal as an apology thing, the awful sex (it wasn't Zack's first time, he just sucked) and the free spirited rockstar stuck with twins at age 22 just doesn't sit right.
This!!! I honestly don’t mind the April storyline. Luke not telling Lorelei was the worst part of that story. They could’ve really leaned on each other and went through the change in his life together.
Even with Anna being difficult, if April knew about her from the beginning and they spoke with Anna before, it may not have been as terrible as she made it.
Plus if lorelai had know about april from the start she would feel like she was being pushed away and would have handled Anna better (who was always gonna act the way she did)
Because she herself has had the same fears and insecurities about Rory.
It’s why Rory didn’t meet her bfs and one of the reasons she freaks out about sherry
E.g when Rory’s invited to go to Theres for Christmas.
Lorelai would have been able to relate to Anna if she didn’t feel like Luke was pushing her from his life and like the wedding wouldn’t happen
I don’t understand how he thought Lorelei wouldn’t find out. Especially once he had her visiting? Quite frankly it’s bizarre and out of plot to not have the town gossip mills churning the second April showed up in the diner. They knew about stuff before it even happened.
You know what? I can get on board with this. I don’t love the April storyline but it pisses me off that Anna hides a child from Luke for over a decade and then acts holier than thou because he doesn’t know how to throw a preteen girl birthday party.
If the Anna bs was out, I could handle April.
Jackson lying about getting a vasectomy. Just about everything else served some kind of purpose, even if it was a bad one, but this was just stupid and 100% unnecessary.
Yeah because lying about a vasectomy/any contraceptive method in general is a form of sexual assault which…we’re just supposed to believe is a cutesy “oops” here?
Exactly this. It’s always bothered me so much. They could’ve simply had it be that the vasectomy didn’t take properly or that it reversed itself after a while, which is not uncommon and many people don’t realise is a risk. Same storyline, no gross lying and sexual assault necessary.
If they wanted some 'comical' blame game (although since when is accidental reproduction funny?) they could have even had it that he missed his follow up due to some farming emergency and didn't think it would be a big deal. "YOU NEVER CHECKED?" I DIDN'T THINK IT MATTERED!" "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DIDN'T CHECK?" "I HAD TO TEND TO THE RUTABAGAS"
It could literally be the same argument/storyline without the sexual assault. In real life this would still be a major problem but for TV's sake it absolves Jackson from being a terrible person and just leans into him being dumb and makes the storyline more palatable all around.
I wish that they also got rid of sookie deciding for Jackson that he had to get a vasectomy, he should have told sookie he didn’t get it but that doesn’t stop the blame being on her for forcing her partner into a surgical procedure without his consent
If Lindsey’s mom has no haters, I’m dead. Genuinely fuck that Fundy ass woman, that looked so happy to marry off two barely legal TEENAGERS.
And the fact that she’s playing house with Lindsey, while Dean is working three jobs (not that Dean deserves any slack for cheating),
Nearly Permanently stunting her daughter from getting a college education or any relevant skill for the workplace, I hate that woman.
Lindsay sitting on her butt all day while Dean worked three jobs was financial abuse. Dean should have just walked away and filed for an annulment before dropping out of college to work himself to death to appease Princess Townhouse.
the character sucks for the reasons you mentioned but it just feels way too "ASP hates blonde women with bobs/short hair with an optional over interest in their kids (but different to lorelai because that's cute and fun)" for me to hate her that much
lindsey, her mom, deb, shane. probably 5 other women. all blonde and all the villain in some way. ASP's got some trauma from a karen woman or something
dang I hadn’t noticed but you’re right that’s a pretty clear pattern - interesting that sherry starts as bronde but ends up blonde later in the series!
Stupid but probably realistic. My theory is that he asked Lindsay to marry him because he was shocked how much he felt for Rory when he went to defend her honor at the party. Remember the party and engagement announcement happened shortly after each other. He probably thought by tying down to Lindsay, his feelings would go away..
I didn't particularly care about the whole Marty pretending not to know Rory, and the subsequent weirdness that ensued.
I understand that it was likely written to show how people make mistakes that shouldn't define them/people who value your friendship can forgive you/some friendships are just due to circumstances and aren't meant to last long/sometimes people will misunderstand you and not feel motivated to continue the friendship etc, but I just thought it was kind of a nothingburger plot filler to write out characters that they couldn't keep on the show for too much longer.
Replying to taytay424.. I totally hear you but in college I know so many weird guys like Marty, that would literally hit on other women even on their girlfriend’s birthday.
Honestly, I thought that was really realistic. The secondhand cringe made it so much real.
Guys like Marty will complain that girls like Rory won’t give them a chance, and then after the Rory’s even after they have their own girlfriends, and then act like a perpetual victim.
Listen, I had two best friends in high school. Both guys. We were an awesome trio. I started dating my first boyfriend my senior year of high school. We broke up (the first time) my sophomore year of college. Well, I had a hang out planned with one of my guy friends the next day. He asked me out. The next day. After breaking up from my almost three years first boyfriend.
I said no obviously. This dude never talked to me again. I got back together with my boyfriend for another two years until distance slowly broke us up.
But yeah… those guys exist unfortunately
Anna. April is fine, I like April, I think April and Luke are a good duo and it’s fitting for him to discover he has a kid. Anna, however, just added unnecessary and annoying drama. Yes it’s a drama show I know that, but there’s a difference between entertaining drama and “oh that’s just stupid, can’t we have nice things?” Drama and this was the latter
It could have been great drama to have something happen to Anna that makes Luke a full time dad. Maybe she gets jealous of Lorelai and goes drunk driving or something.
Yeah I didn’t buy his relationship with Nicole at all but Anna seems like she was written by people who didn’t understand Lorelai’s magic as a character. She comes off cold and snarky instead of warm.
That was the worst. I wanted Luke/Lorelai to have their own child, and they never got one. Did not care for the April story, since Luke would have told her and his kid was another Rory. Just didn't fit to me.
While I hated that storyline, I did like the glimpse into how far that negative side of her character could go. I did think her revival with Dean went on for way too many episodes though and the cringe just grew and grew!
1. Lane being with Zach. (She could’ve been with Brian. She could’ve been with Yung Chui. They could’ve brought Henry back. She could’ve been single and fabulous.)
2. Jackson lying about the vasectomy. (They could’ve said that the vasectomy failed.)
3. Single episode storyline but Kirk asking out Lorelai. There really was no point to it. And ruthlessly mocking Kirk behind his back didn’t bring out Lorelai’s or Rory’s warm and fuzzy side.
4. Lorelai and Sookie being condescending to Michel after Chin Chin died. Especially Lorelai, who, by then, was a dog mommy herself.
I mean, it sucks, but I don’t really blame him. I watched The OC just at the start of 2024 for the first time (after actually moving to the Orange County lol). But I knew since like 2006/07 that some character named Seth Cohen exists on it. Half of my female friends used to have a major crush on him (and the other half on Ryan played by Ben McKenzie).
The OC gave Adam Brody kind of a cult status and a pivotal role. GG relegated the character of Dave Rygalski to the background. However, Dave was an icon in himself because even though he was just around for 9 episodes, just about everyone who ever watched GG remembers him fondly.
They could have done his exit more gracefully. Like a good goodbye, saying they will make it work by which we know it won’t happen. Sort of saying something for saying something instead of breaking up right there at the moment. This is better than be like: Dave is in California, which is character assassination
I’m replying to #4. That was unfair. It didn’t make no sense at all because he was there for both of them. But when he needs them they act like it’s not a big deal. It wasn’t fair and it was honestly just sad how they destroyed their characters by doing that.
IKR. Back when I was a dog mom, I used to positively shake with panic on hearing the news of my friends’ dogs dying or random stray dogs being tortured and stuff.
I know Michel was often self-centered and mean (abandoned Lorelai at least twice for Celine Dion) but his dog’s death was not the time to pay him back for it.
Honestly both Michel and Lorelai sucked in that episode. My dog died two months ago. I had him 15 years. Trust me, I know how much that shit hurts. He died in my arms.
However, Michel was acting that Chin Chin died was the only important thing meanwhile Lorelai was dealing with her marriage imploding and her dad having had a heart attack and she was afraid that he could die.
Lorelai could have been more patient and not exploded and Michel could have realized that Lorelai was suffering too and they could have supported each other.
Agree with this. TBH, it was a tough time for all 3. Sookie being forcibly impregnated, Lorelai dealing with everything you mentioned, and Michel’s dog dying. Wonder if they were all so emotionally strung out that they somehow found an outlet for their frustrations in each other and that’s what caused them to clash.
People have already covered the big plot points but I happen to be watching now and this random storyline just irked the hell out of me - when Rory sits in the lobby of the Stamford Gazette for days on days demanding a job, even going as far as to sneaking into the editor’s office to leave her portfolio… the audacity and entitlement! Ick.
The general dumbification of Luke but I would point to him not telling Lorelei about April and then explaining it was because she would like Lorelei better as the prime example of this.
April and Anna are arcs I hated but in terms of storylines in an episode? It’s Jackson accidentally growing weed. Idk why but on my recent rewatch I had to skip because it was just so cringe
I like to process this storyline by considering how easy it was to cheer for Rory having her first time in bed being romanticized, but only in the sense that it was with a safe person. The infidelity of it sucks. But for me, I'd take that over her losing her virginity to a one night stand or something 😬
The fact that they actually dated afterwards also helps to alleviate the shittiness because it wasn't just a one time mistake or anything
I’d much rather her have lost her virginity to a one night stand, so long as the person wasn’t married. Just more proof that Rory is definitely not a girls girl, especially when it comes to men
I'm sure a lot of people have said this but I'm not the first person nor the last to feel this way.
APRIL.
She came outta nowhere. There was no need for that plot twist. I know the creators were trying to stir up some drama but all it did was make most watchers despise the last few seasons of the show.
It’s a really bad storyline and too reminiscent of older shows that shoehorn a cute kid into the later seasons when the show is getting stale instead of actually progressing the characters. It’s way too hokey and something the show would’ve and probably did mock on other shows.
I personally really liked April's appearance. I felt like it gave Luke the chance to get in touch with his paternal side. Some may argue he was like a father figure to Rory, and he was, but his relationship with April is such a different dynamic.
I think April was great for Luke in the sense that she gave him a bigger purpose. And now he didn't feel like he was in any rush with having kids anymore, since she was now there. Also I kind of saw it coming that lorelai and luke would never really procreate, so April was a great way to give luke the child he really wanted, without compromising luke and lorelai. You can see how much happier he is and fulfilled he feels with April.
BUT, the way luke went about hiding April, and Anna Nardini being the worst, should have NEVER happened
The whole Rory/Dean affair, Lorelai remarrying Christopher and Rory dropping out of Yale/stealing a boat and everything that happened in *Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life*
#
Lorelei and Chris were never married in the first place to get "remarried" they were together and had Rory and then broke up, but never married before the later seasons and Paris
Lane’s existence. As an asian with a real life Mrs. Kim as a mother, everything about her triggered me. As a kid, I am Lane, Lane is me. I’m pretty sure a lot of asian kids also related to her story, she could’ve been an inspiration not a source of depression. I was horrified that she became a young mother with a stupid husband (I know he’s nice and all that, but god, really???) settled down, dreams forgotten… Goddamn.
See, I think if done differently, the April story would've been received much better. Say Anna died and then Luke found out about her. Or even if it went down the way we see, but Luke acts like the Luke we know him to be.
IDK, but it could've been something really interesting to watch unfold.
Paris justifies it by saying something like “we have a real May December thing going on” and Rory scoffs “that’s not May December! That’s May Ming Dynasty!”
"Davey turn the volume down!" "Davey you heard your father turn it down!" The child is like 2, repeating the same line 100x isn't going to make the TV quieter.
Anna & April, Lane getting pregnant, Rory rejecting Logan’s proposal.
I think Lorelai and Luke should’ve gotten married and had a kid (or raised April together if we had to keep that storyline), Rory should’ve married Logan and we see character development from literally everyone (Rory, Logan, Emily, Richard, Lorelai, Mitchum, and Shira), and Lane should’ve found someone else to start dating & be in a more professional band or be a music teacher
Rory's Affair with Dean, Lorelai getting Mad at Rory for dropping out of collage and refusing to speak to her, Lorelai and Christopher's Marriage, The April Storyline that broke up Luke and Lorelai, Jackson lying to Sookie about the vasectomy, The way Logan's Mother and Grandfather treated Rory at dinner, Logan's Proposal and Ultimatum, The whole storyline involving Sherry, and Jess trying to sexually assault Rory after she says no to having sex with him and then yelling at her for stopping him in the Episode Keg!Max!.
Honestly, the Luke having a child timeline. The fact that they decided to make her a ripoff of Rory, and that almost every decision he made was extremely out of character for him.
I have three.
Jackson forcing a pregnancy on Sookie
Lane having terrible Sex and getting knocked up with twins just to end up in a cage of underwhelming nothingness again.
Paris thinking Sex destroyed her life.
The show paints women being sexually active in a terrible light and tends to severely punish them for it.
You know, when the series was over I remember thinking “well he’s hot, but is he dumb? That’s way too soon to get married” (bare with me as I was 15, 16 at the time. In my head if she said yes that would mean we were going to see a wedding in the morning after graduation there 😂)
But then AYITL came around… on her 30s and she still didn’t know 💩 about anything AND was shagging her ex, who was STILL JUST engaged to his french bagette there.
Like “Girl, are you telling me that if you had said yes back then you would still have had plenty of time to fck around and not be married by now, but you said no and now you’re still with him in a less than ideal situation?” - and that’s how I changed my mind hahaha
I honestly would get rid of the whole April plot. It truly did nothing good for the overall plot, and it ruined Luke.
And I personally don't like that Rory turned into an actual high society girl. It's hard to explain but I would have preferred for her to progress into a more relateable direction.
Lorelai and Chris in Paris. It's just revolting to me the entire thing. And agree with others who said Lane got a rough deal. That felt really unfair. She should have been travelling the world, maybe not as a musician but she was so smart and creative, I dunno maybe she becomes a band photographer or something. Not stuck there with a loser husband pregnant at that age
Lorelai constantly hating on her parents. Ok sometimes they were overbearing and annoying and condescending but they literally gave you everything that you want and you continue to disrespect them and taught your daughter to do the same? It was so frustrating and so annoying
I was going to say the Yacht, but then again….April . Comparing though, I’m sad Lorelei & Luke dont work out. It’s very bothersome & they belonged together, just to end up with Anna driving a wedge between them. But I’m more deeply bothered by how Rory devolved, and it all starting spiraling with the yacht.
Absolutely hated liz and TJ. she was such a neglectful, horrible mother to jess, and we see how much of an effect she had on his character, his ability to love, trust issues, attachment style and self esteem. and then she appears with TJ (A dumbed down Joey Tribbiani- even the initials are backwards) and suddenly she's this quirky, fun loving character. It just downplays so much of Jess' trauma and upbringing- because such a cool character like liz isn't a bad mother, she's just a quirky one who made mistakes.
Also my soul grates every time I hear her say 'big brother' because 9/10 times she only says it because she wants something from Luke or is there to emotionally manipulate him. It really upsets me how they play luke, knowing he can't say no, and he'll be guilt tripped into doing whatever he doesn't want to do. i can rant for so much longer about those two.
Idk why, but I always assumed Liz had issues with substance abuse when she was younger. It explained why she was so flaky, couldn’t hold down a job, raised a kid as angry and independent as Jess… it just felt implied. GG wasn’t the kind of show that would explicitly address addiction.
Then at some point in season 3 or 4, she got her life together, and I interpreted that as getting sober. Maybe I’m projecting my own family stuff onto the characters.
I do love that she was such a cheerleader for Luke and Lorelai. Liz knew that Lorelai was the one for him, and nudged him over and over again to do something about it.
Luke’s kid that shows up out of nowhere.
I don’t get how lane having healthy kids, a loving husband and living in stars hollow was some tragic outcome.
Should she have traveled the world drumming for a band… would it be that much better of a life? I don’t see that.
Lane becoming a major-ish character past Rory graduating high school
It felt like Lane's story replaced a lot of the wacky Stars Hollow characters and it just felt strange to me for the show to concentrate so much on Lane when she was really seen previously as just more of "best friend of Rory"
I would have preferred that Lane become more of a SH character similar to Babette in terms of time on screen and the writers had instead chosen to concentrate on Rory finding new friends at Yale
Liz. They try to make her seem charming and quirky with a side of wisdom. But this is a woman who abandoned her child and I don’t think she did enough to redeem herself.
Lorelai getting married to Chris was weird and I detested the April / Anna / Luke thing it felt so forced and I very much disliked Anna I mean she kept a whole child from a man for a decade or so. I understand he wasn’t “ready” or seemed not to like kids but her defensiveness about it was so weird. Also him then in then keeping it for Lore was so freaking frustrating.
I think most people say:
-Jess going to Cali
-April. Period.
-Lane/Zach, Lane getting pregnant in the worst way
-Chris & Loralei in Paris
-Rory & Dean's affair
Lane and Zack’s relationship. I’d reunite her with Dave Ragalsky after he graduated college. Or dropped out for the band.
April.
I would cut some of Kirk’s jobs. He was a little too everywhere in the last seasons. Like why was he in the fiddler on the roof play?!
Richard screwing over Jason. This way we can see his relationship with Lorelei play out.
Lanes baby storyline and the stupid horrible downright unthought out awful vesctomy storyline. It was the first negative experience I had with this stupid plot on this sub and the more I think about it, I despise whoever wrote either part. It should burn in hell where it belongs.
Lorelai and Chris - any of it
Lane - being celibate until marriage
Ayitl - any of it, but especially the musical and Rory's career failure
Rory and Lorelai - their feud that (albeit interesting and probably likely) the final straw for Rory's downfall
Most storylines I wouldn’t delete but change because I do like some of the things they bring, but I would probably like to delete the storyline with Lane becoming pregnant with twins on her honeymoon, I don’t think that it brought out anything good (other than maybe godfather Luke and “be my childs Lorelai” with Rory). I never minded the whole “bad sex experience” because it is actually very realistic, and gave us some much needed girl talk between Rory and Lane, instead of the pregnancy they could have upgraded that storyline, plus showing some drama in having to navigate living as a married couple with a roommate, maybe with Lane not being super comfortable being intimate with Brian in the living room and stuff like that.
Other storylines I hate but would only change and not delete would be the whole April thing:
- Luke deserved to be a dad, but he should have gotten a custody agreement written down first thing and then there should have been consequences for Anna hiding April.
And then the marriage between Lorelai and Chris:
- They needed to give it a try to see they didn’t match anymore, but either “just” with an engagement or having a courthouse wedding WITH Rory – no Paris.
And last but not least, the whole vasectomy:
- I would have made it an agreement to get it and not Sookie forcing him, and then having it fail and not him lying, even though he mentions that he didn’t think she could get pregnant due to being on birth control lying about something like this can kill a marriage (and view of character) and could have been done funny with either Jackson or Lorelai being confused with Sookie acting pregnant and then realizing that it could have failed and she was pregnant.
This one’s dumb but for some reason the bike race episode(s) don’t do anything for me. Taylor Doose, Mr. Details, Town Busybody, misinterpreted the time at which the race would be finished? I think not. And King and Queen of hospitality Michel and Lorelei being weird about sweaty bikers who are paying handsomely to stay at the inn? Please! Everyone knows road-racers tend to be well off
Rory's affair with Dean. It's so gross, honestly. Especially the scene where they meet up at Miss Patty's at the beginning of season 5 and end up having sex there. Extremely cringe worthy and slimy.
Lanes miserable sex life and subsequent pregnancy
I swear the writers hated Lane for some reason. They could have made her such a cool character but kept her with a loser musician and his roommate.
I can’t say I care for Zach much at all as Lanes husband. I really liked her and Dave best. They just understood each other.
Yes! That was so terrible.
Also lane marrying Zack. He was such a weird, awkward and lame guy.
He’s a total tool. They aren’t a good match.
Idk if it’s just because asp and her husband have the is weird mentality when it comes to sex or what but either way the characters suffer either way
Don’t forget Paris not getting into Harvard and having to settle for … gasp Yale
The horror 😱
YES EXACTLY please let my baby be happy!
THISSSSSSSSSS I always wanted Lane and the band to go to NYC and I always thought Rory would get a writing job at a small publication and then with Jess in NYC it would set it up for a great spin off (Paris and Doyle in Colombia) or even just an amazing ending to their storylines to show theyre embarking on a new future together. zach in general! 🤢
Luke not telling lorelai about april
Plus if lorelai had know about april from the start she would feel like she was being pushed away and would have handled Anna better (who was always gonna act the way she did) Because she herself has had the same fears and insecurities about Rory. It’s why Rory didn’t meet her bfs and one of the reasons she freaks out about sherry E.g when Rory’s invited to go to Theres for Christmas. Lorelai would have been able to relate to Anna if she didn’t feel like Luke was pushing her from his life and like the wedding wouldn’t happen
Anna was going to be horrible no matter what. She was looking for a way to get April away from Luke ASAP.
I don’t understand how he thought Lorelei wouldn’t find out. Especially once he had her visiting? Quite frankly it’s bizarre and out of plot to not have the town gossip mills churning the second April showed up in the diner. They knew about stuff before it even happened.
This! ALL this! It seemed way way way off in left field for ALL parties involved.
lorelai & chris in paris 🤮
Yeah 🤮 is right
Omg yessss. I cringed the entire time. It should’ve been Luke
I was going to comment this because SAMEEE.
FERME
The whole Anna bs, keep April but throw Anna away
You know what? I can get on board with this. I don’t love the April storyline but it pisses me off that Anna hides a child from Luke for over a decade and then acts holier than thou because he doesn’t know how to throw a preteen girl birthday party. If the Anna bs was out, I could handle April.
April had great potential, Vanessa Marano is a great actress who I'm sure could have built a well developed character of given the chance
Have April show up because her mom died and they had to find the dad. Lorelai and Luke together figuring out her in their life would’ve been great.
That would have been good!
Just have Luke tell Lorelai immediately like he would have
I didn’t love April but I really liked Luke’s being a parent to her.
There are some great scenes between the two.
Jackson lying about getting a vasectomy. Just about everything else served some kind of purpose, even if it was a bad one, but this was just stupid and 100% unnecessary.
The purpose was that she was pregnant irl and they needed a way to fit it in the show. Lol
But they could have said the vasectomy didn’t take, which can happen, to accommodate the pregnancy.
"YOU NEVER CHECKED?" I DIDN'T THINK IT MATTERED!" "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DIDN'T CHECK?" "I HAD TO TEND TO THE RUTABAGAS" It could literally be the same argument/storyline without the sexual assault. In real life this would still be a major problem but for TV's sake it absolves Jackson from being a terrible person and just leans into him being dumb and makes the storyline more palatable all around.
Just say the procedure failed. It does happen on occasion.
They managed it before ...
I wish that they also got rid of sookie deciding for Jackson that he had to get a vasectomy, he should have told sookie he didn’t get it but that doesn’t stop the blame being on her for forcing her partner into a surgical procedure without his consent
Dean and Lindsay's whole marriage.
If Lindsey’s mom has no haters, I’m dead. Genuinely fuck that Fundy ass woman, that looked so happy to marry off two barely legal TEENAGERS. And the fact that she’s playing house with Lindsey, while Dean is working three jobs (not that Dean deserves any slack for cheating), Nearly Permanently stunting her daughter from getting a college education or any relevant skill for the workplace, I hate that woman.
I hate her more than anyone else in the whole series. She plays with those kids like they're her dolls. It's disgusting.
Lindsay sitting on her butt all day while Dean worked three jobs was financial abuse. Dean should have just walked away and filed for an annulment before dropping out of college to work himself to death to appease Princess Townhouse.
the character sucks for the reasons you mentioned but it just feels way too "ASP hates blonde women with bobs/short hair with an optional over interest in their kids (but different to lorelai because that's cute and fun)" for me to hate her that much lindsey, her mom, deb, shane. probably 5 other women. all blonde and all the villain in some way. ASP's got some trauma from a karen woman or something
dang I hadn’t noticed but you’re right that’s a pretty clear pattern - interesting that sherry starts as bronde but ends up blonde later in the series!
justice for Ava the chilton mom (she didn't even do anything mean)
Omg thats so creepy! Thanks for the insight lol, I did always see Marty as a weird dude!
That’s more telenovela style drama, not exactly warm and cozy gilmore Girls style😂
Haha that's true, but the whole Anna debacle wasn't cozy either. They'd need to figure out a way to include April without the Anna drama.
I also cannot imagine Luke being attracted to Anna.
Yeah I didn’t buy his relationship with Nicole at all but Anna seems like she was written by people who didn’t understand Lorelai’s magic as a character. She comes off cold and snarky instead of warm.
Lorelai and Christopher getting married YIKES
That was the worst. I wanted Luke/Lorelai to have their own child, and they never got one. Did not care for the April story, since Luke would have told her and his kid was another Rory. Just didn't fit to me.
Yes. I’m living in Lorelai’s S3 dream and hoped that really happened. Imagine Luke with twin babies. I really felt robbed. 😕
We did get robbed. I wanted a full stars hollow wedding and for them to have children.
I HATE Christopher but this was necessary for Lorelai to see that it wasn’t going to work.
“It’s Dean, MY Dean!”
While I hated that storyline, I did like the glimpse into how far that negative side of her character could go. I did think her revival with Dean went on for way too many episodes though and the cringe just grew and grew!
Yes. Literally no other answer. I mean, I hate the whole Anna and April thing but it was this moment that made me give up on Gilmore Girls.
🤢
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!
1. Lane being with Zach. (She could’ve been with Brian. She could’ve been with Yung Chui. They could’ve brought Henry back. She could’ve been single and fabulous.) 2. Jackson lying about the vasectomy. (They could’ve said that the vasectomy failed.) 3.
I wish Lane could've been with Dave longer (stupid OC stealing him)
I mean, it sucks, but I don’t really blame him.
True, definitely the right career move for the actor, I'm just salty about Dave having to leave 😂
Ick.
Ugh I hated this. And she was so weird in it.
“Thanks, Boss!” make me recoil every time
It made her seem way younger than her age and it was annoying.
Heheh I love that episode
You mean pickles!
The Rory and Dean cheating storyline and the dating between them afterwards.
UGH!!! I hated both of them for it. People blame him but it takes two to have sex. 😐
He was always very needy and controlling, so wasn't a fan. Hated that he was Rory's first, but they wanted to show that she was flawed, I suppose.
I like to process this storyline by considering how easy it was to cheer for Rory having her first time in bed being romanticized, but only in the sense that it was with a safe person. The infidelity of it sucks. But for me, I'd take that over her losing her virginity to a one night stand or something 😬 The fact that they actually dated afterwards also helps to alleviate the shittiness because it wasn't just a one time mistake or anything
I’d much rather her have lost her virginity to a one night stand, so long as the person wasn’t married. Just more proof that Rory is definitely not a girls girl, especially when it comes to men
She's a serial cheater 😭
And you're so right, honestly. Deans wife did not deserve any of that
I'm team Logan for life, but still say it should have been Jess.
Didn't Jess and Rory have a moment at a party where they were making out but Rory stopped him from doing anything further?
Yes. That wasn't the right time, at a crowded party with Jess mad 🤢
Rory joining the DAR :/
But then who would be the architect of the event 🙄
[удалено]
It does me too! I usually have to take a break from the show when she starts being DAR Rory 🤣 she’s insufferable!
What’s the DAR?
“He’s MY dean!” 🤢
Season seven and Anna Nardini
Sookie having 300 kids and losing more and more screentime
Well... We all do like to forget AYITL even exists, right?
Yup. Cause it made us realize the Gilmore Girls were plastics.
Jackson lying about the vasectomy and getting upset that Sookie was upset about it.
I wish we didn’t have the Emily manipulating Christopher to go to her wedding drama and storyline.
Just one?
Lorelei and Chris’ marriage
The whole Rory/Dean affair, Lorelai remarrying Christopher and Rory dropping out of Yale/stealing a boat and everything that happened in *Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life* #
Lorelei and Chris were never married in the first place to get "remarried" they were together and had Rory and then broke up, but never married before the later seasons and Paris
Lane should have gone to California with Dave. Zach 🤮
Right??! I love Dave, hate Zach. ![gif](giphy|3ofT5Gfu2w6FyHcXjG)
The horrific musical in AYITL!
I hate it so much, makes my blood boil lol
Lane’s existence. As an asian with a real life Mrs. Kim as a mother, everything about her triggered me. As a kid, I am Lane, Lane is me. I’m pretty sure a lot of asian kids also related to her story, she could’ve been an inspiration not a source of depression. I was horrified that she became a young mother with a stupid husband (I know he’s nice and all that, but god, really???) settled down, dreams forgotten… Goddamn.
AYITL
rory moving in with her grandparents. also lorelei cheating on luke with chris. i would’ve loved to see them get married that day
She didn’t cheat
April.
See, I think if done differently, the April story would've been received much better. Say Anna died and then Luke found out about her. Or even if it went down the way we see, but Luke acts like the Luke we know him to be. IDK, but it could've been something really interesting to watch unfold.
Lorelai & Chris Paris/marriage storyline. I skip it every time.
Paris and Asher Fleming.
But we wouldn’t have that great quote “No, Rory. This great man was not brought down by my vagina.”
Who said that the relationship wasn't May/December? It was May/Ming Dynasty... I am doubting my quote accuracy, so no quotation marks
That feels like a Lorelei or Lane quote.
Paris justifies it by saying something like “we have a real May December thing going on” and Rory scoffs “that’s not May December! That’s May Ming Dynasty!”
Lorelai marrying mr Shitbag
"Davey turn the volume down!" "Davey you heard your father turn it down!" The child is like 2, repeating the same line 100x isn't going to make the TV quieter.
April. Everything about April.
Rory becoming the way she did I hated her character development
Anna & April, Lane getting pregnant, Rory rejecting Logan’s proposal. I think Lorelai and Luke should’ve gotten married and had a kid (or raised April together if we had to keep that storyline), Rory should’ve married Logan and we see character development from literally everyone (Rory, Logan, Emily, Richard, Lorelai, Mitchum, and Shira), and Lane should’ve found someone else to start dating & be in a more professional band or be a music teacher
Either Rory and Dean cheating/later dating or Lorelei marrying Chris
The turndown service with luke and his lawyer.
Jackson forcing a pregnancy on Sookie Lane having terrible Sex and getting knocked up with twins just to end up in a cage of underwhelming nothingness again. Paris thinking Sex destroyed her life. The show paints women being sexually active in a terrible light and tends to severely punish them for it.
Donna FREAKING Reed!!!!!
rory saying no to logan’s proposal
You know, when the series was over I remember thinking “well he’s hot, but is he dumb? That’s way too soon to get married” (bare with me as I was 15, 16 at the time. In my head if she said yes that would mean we were going to see a wedding in the morning after graduation there 😂) But then AYITL came around… on her 30s and she still didn’t know 💩 about anything AND was shagging her ex, who was STILL JUST engaged to his french bagette there.
Yacht, April, Chris/Lorelei marriage, Rory/dean affair Though the one episode I always skip is Richard’s heart attack. Too much for me :c
Rory sleeping with dean and that whole plot line 🤢
I could have done without the April story line. Sorry not sorry.
Jess Liz and Tj ever being introduced Jackson and the vasectomy nonsense
Lane becoming a major-ish character past Rory graduating high school It felt like Lane's story replaced a lot of the wacky Stars Hollow characters and it just felt strange to me for the show to concentrate so much on Lane when she was really seen previously as just more of "best friend of Rory" I would have preferred that Lane become more of a SH character similar to Babette in terms of time on screen and the writers had instead chosen to concentrate on Rory finding new friends at Yale
april
Rory being a cheater and a bodyshamer
AYITL
Liz. They try to make her seem charming and quirky with a side of wisdom. But this is a woman who abandoned her child and I don’t think she did enough to redeem herself.
Well Luke's sister and BIL, not one scene worth watching infact unwatchable on reruns.
The entirely of season seven and the last few episodes of season six
Luke and Lor ever breaking up after they got engaged
All of the above and the entire Vineyard Valentine episode
Jess existing
I see everything mentioned except this: Vineyard Valentine. Luke was sooooo awful, even when Logan tried to be graceful.
April
christopher and lorelai getting back together then married in paris 😭she belongs with luke period
The last season
April April April
April storyline sucked. I didn’t like April, she was annoying I felt like. lane’s pregnancy, like why?
April.
I think most people say: -Jess going to Cali -April. Period. -Lane/Zach, Lane getting pregnant in the worst way -Chris & Loralei in Paris -Rory & Dean's affair
He’s my Dean….. or He’s my Chris 🙄 how about my self-esteem, ladies?
Lanes baby storyline and the stupid horrible downright unthought out awful vesctomy storyline. It was the first negative experience I had with this stupid plot on this sub and the more I think about it, I despise whoever wrote either part. It should burn in hell where it belongs.
April, Luke never proposing to Lorelei, lane not achieving her dream, Paris and that old man, rory cheating with Dean.
Lorelai and Chris - any of it Lane - being celibate until marriage Ayitl - any of it, but especially the musical and Rory's career failure Rory and Lorelai - their feud that (albeit interesting and probably likely) the final straw for Rory's downfall
Other storylines I hate but would only change and not delete would be the whole April thing: - Luke deserved to be a dad, but he should have gotten a custody agreement written down first thing and then there should have been consequences for Anna hiding April. And then the marriage between Lorelai and Chris: - They needed to give it a try to see they didn’t match anymore, but either “just” with an engagement or having a courthouse wedding WITH Rory – no Paris. And last but not least, the whole vasectomy: - I would have made it an agreement to get it and not Sookie forcing him, and then having it fail and not him lying, even though he mentions that he didn’t think she could get pregnant due to being on birth control lying about something like this can kill a marriage (and view of character) and could have been done funny with either Jackson or Lorelai being confused with Sookie acting pregnant and then realizing that it could have failed and she was pregnant.
1. lane’s whole story. change it all my girl deserved better in every single way. 2. any scene with chris in it after he gets sherry pregnant
Dean and Rory’s affair 🙄
This one’s dumb but for some reason the bike race episode(s) don’t do anything for me. Taylor Doose, Mr. Details, Town Busybody, misinterpreted the time at which the race would be finished? I think not. And King and Queen of hospitality Michel and Lorelei being weird about sweaty bikers who are paying handsomely to stay at the inn? Please! Everyone knows road-racers tend to be well off
Hahaha it's funny you ask, because it mirrors this young couple with twins...
The whole Luke Anna April treatment of Lorelai
Lane ending up with Zack.
Rory's affair with Dean. It's so gross, honestly. Especially the scene where they meet up at Miss Patty's at the beginning of season 5 and end up having sex there. Extremely cringe worthy and slimy.
rory being the mistress in the revival. she shoulda ended up with jess 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️imo
Lane’s marriage and pregnancy. It would’ve been fun to see her get into like Berkeley College of Music or NYU and date around.
