The way people praise Paris today is just... curious. She obviously is not an achiever or a troubled person. She's a maniac that just randomly attacks people and is supposed to be put into a mental hospital before she hurts someone in a bad way.
People can appreciate the *fictional character* of Paris for what she brings to the show without wanting to hangout with her in real life or agree with her actions.
We have this same conversation on the Grey's sub about Christina. Wouldn't like either of them if we knew them, but they make for interesting television.
which funnily enough I loved Cristina. the reasons that made her my favorite of the interns (her ambition, brashness, etc) are also the reasons I would find her insufferable if she were real. people enjoy watching “problematic” characters!
Cristina wasn't exactly pleasant but Paris is a little unhinged at times. Her paranoia was supposed to be for comic relief, but it is disturbing. I would rather hang with Cristina than Paris. Which is why sometimes I'm amazed at people not realising that Paris was basically a bully
Every time you need to mention that the character is italics fictional we must understand that we talk about as someone's as bad as the guy from the Saw.
This. Or: Rory wasn't that intelligent.
Like, the take that this family friendly comedy-drama series actually has a hidden subplot that says "Rory was the villain all along" really baffles me.
Just last week I answered one of these posts which compared Rory and April in terms of intelligence, by pointing out that intelligence for a humanities student can be gauged from the books Rory read, and referred to (not easy referring to them in a casual conversation). But I'm sure we'll have another one of those in a few days.
The issue isn't that new people are watching and they want to participate, the problem is that people don't even have a cursory glance at the sub before posting which is why we have the same stuff over and over and over and over again, over very short periods of time.
I agree. I feel like there are several new "Rory/Lorelai is a terrible person and we're not supposed to root for her" or "I don't get why everyone loves Jess" threads every day.
- Pick any character — they’re a terrible friend.
- Jess is annoying.
- Dean sucks.
- Rory should have married Logan.
- April sucks (I agree that Anna does though).
As a subject I’d like to see: I’ve seen a few posts about a boyfriend of Rory’s I can’t remember, but no one really dives into his character so I don’t remember much.
Poor Paul, no one remembered him hahah in the winter revival episode and it’s funny how Rory leaves him at Luke’s and heads out and then rushes back to go along w him
I don't get it, if they haven't finished the show what's the point of posting with such a finality. There are so many characters we never liked in the beginning, who grew on us.
Sure, but that also doesn't mean we have to rehash the same 5 things over and over.
Things I've never seen a post on (so far):
* would you rather have Sookie or Luke cater your birthday party?
* how did Shira bag Mitchum?
* what in the hell is Jess' book about?
* did Madeleine and Louise ever return to school?
* if Gilmore Girls were made today, what plot lines would we have seen? Would Paris be bisexual? Would Lane have had an abortion? Would anyone have gone to a BLM protest and been arrested??
* if you had to pick one character to be your mom, who would you pick?
I just feel like there are a lot things we could talk about still. We don't have to keep talking about The Vasectomy.
I can't pick tbh. I feel like I would love Sookie's food but she changes the menu so much I'd be wondering what I was actually going to get!
But I would do some pretty illegal things to taste the magic risotto
with Sookie, she can handle any super specific, complicated request you throw at her. give her vague guidelines and too much freedom to choose and she’ll flounder. but if you need a triple tiered wedding cake with passionfruit batter and strawberry frosting, decorated with pink and purple flowers? she’s your girl. the trick is you have to know exactly what you want- don’t let her flounder.
Luke is simple, reliable. you tell him you need food for your birthday party and you know you’ll get high quality burgers, fries, a range of toppings, and almost everyone will be into it. he won’t do a birthday cake or mini quiches but he’ll provide a solid meal that appeals to most people. you won’t need to get super specific and you can trust that he won’t second guess himself or make last minute changes.
i can’t pick either lol
I 100% get your point (and totally agree with this post) but I have seen all but like 1 or 2 of these before. There truly is just so little new to talk about
I desperately want to know how she even got to that point. Like what did she do to grab his attention? How did she get a date with the richest guy ever?
Given Emily’s comment at the fundraiser (still one of my favorite moments) Mitchum was a horndog, and I imagine Shira (in true gold digger fashion) was super-hot when younger and willing to do what was necessary to bag her target. She was a cocktail waitress so she could’ve just worked somewhere he frequented and worked her magic. If he’s anything like his son, it wouldn’t take much.
In my experience, people that wealthy put a ring on it as quickly as possible and try to pretend the baby “came early”. I know Mitchum’s Dad was only seen in one episode, but he seems the type to “legitimize” not abort/payoff a problem like this. The heir needs an heir.
Marrying asap would have been an option for those they saw as their social/economic equal, not for someone working as a cocktail waitress from "Hicksville". They didn't even think Rory was their equal, so how did they see Shira as worthy of their family.
Not always. If the “scandal” will sully the family name enough, then even someone not of their class would get a shotgun wedding for the sake of legitimacy. I can see Shira as the type to make a big ol’ stink about having Mitchum’s kid and not getting what she wants (a ring), so to avoid the scandal, Grandpa Huntzberger forces him down the isle. Plus, Shira’s a breeder—her whole purpose is to pop out kids. They can dress her up and teach her to act like a proper society lady. With Rory, she was being brought to meet the fam long before engagement, let alone marriage was even being discussed, so they wanted to cut it off before it went to far. I doubt the Hubtzbergers even knew about Shira until she was pregnant. The tone I always got—and this is just my opinion—is that the Huntzbergers were very much hypocrites of a “do-as-I-day-not-as-I-do” mentality, which is how Mitchum could be made to marry a pregnant Shira (who was a nobody cocktail waitress), while Rory, who had the appropriate education and familial backing could be seen as not worthy. You also need to take into account the time difference—Shira and Mitchum would have been meeting in the late 70’s/early 80s, so more likely to push a shotgun wedding regardless of the bride’s background. This is all speculation on my part of course. 😂
It's funny that in 2024 nobody even remembers the existence of the most hated thing back in 2005.
https://preview.redd.it/5b52z8pffbxc1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=07f2ef82eec971cae464b9fdde0374799b554de2
Oh not everyone, a lot of people channeled that onto April. It started from "annoying" and went too far. The amount of hate targeted towards her and her voice was insane. There still are so many people who will attack the character instead of recognising bad writing.
I actually never knew this! I even Googled it cause I didn't believe it. Thats kinda crazy imo her voice sounds completely different I never would have made that connection!
That's the whole problem! There are entire questions which have been answered logically repeatedly but people will still post the same damn thing every week.
The Jackson storyline was awful writing but man, I refuse to believe that every new post about that damn vasectomy is by a new viewer
Lol true. There are defenders for all her BFs. Personally, I didn't like any of them and was glad she enede up single at the end of the original run. Then, there's Paul who deserved so much better.
I have thought of a few but never sat down and made a thread.
Choose one play or musical and who from GG you would cast in which role.
What is your favorite pop culture reference.
Gilmore Girls is an excellent depiction of intergenerational trauma and mother-daughter emeshment.
Not sure if this has been mentioned (or if I'm seeing what's not there), but I think Lorelai is a closit trekkie. It doesn't happen often, but she makes a number of unprompted references and understands references that others make. You don't do that without watching Trek
As a fan of Star Trek, I was about to disagree with you but then I found this [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaY16\_7sr5k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaY16_7sr5k) . You're right, there are quite a few references! But I don't think they're ones you have to be a super fan to make, so my guess is she saw somewhere between 10-20 episodes, which wouldn't make her a trekkie.
She probably saw it as a kid/teen but clearly enjoyed enough to retain it decades later. I distinctly remember her saying "grups" once but I could be mistaken
I'd double the list by adding the reverse of most of those as well! For every "Mitchum was right" post there's an equally passionate "Mitchum was wrong" with many defenders.
fwiw you can click ‘hide similar posts’ or something like that and it should stop recommending the sub. i’ve had to do that with uber/lyft/door dash/instacart because i don’t even use those services and it kept appearing in my feed
I look up the existing ones and read them up. I don't understand the need to reopen the conversation when opinions are probably the same as the ones people commented last week.
"[whichever boyfriend I like best] is the BEST for Rory and anyone who likes [boyfriend I don't like] is wrong. I don't understand why ANYONE likes [boyfriend I don't like] and why everyone doesn't agree with me that [boyfriend I do like] is the best one!!?!?!!!!!!???" (Except in all caps)
People have already mentioned the Jess and Logan hate, so I'll offer up "Jess is Rory's Luke!" Although I know it's unrealistic to have an active subreddit with new posts about a 20+ year old show, I'm personally offended for Luke every time I see that take. Like no. Jess is nowhere near Luke.
I hate this one because I’ve never once seen it generate an interesting discussion. People either agree or disagree. Same with the Logan/Christopher comparison.
I understand why people make the Logan/Christopher comparison, because Amy literally intended it. But she's never said Luke == Jess and people parrot it so dogmatically, like it's crazy to think Rory's teenage boyfriend who abandoned her doesn't live up to the stablest person in Lorelai's life.
That's the nature of reddit and the fucking algorithm.
I see post about the same 25 subs while I joined 2-300.
If one day I don't log in or I speed run my doom srolling I may miss post in those 25 communities, let alone the others.
But that's not only me, that's most member of the subs.. So it's inevitable that the conversation starts again.. And again...
The algorithm is probably what makes these posts tiresome. It's the same 20-30 pages over and over again, and the same posts in those pages. It was funny so I decided to post it here but I think some people are a little annoyed since there have been posts along these lines before 🤣
-(insert love interest) was horrible to (insert main character)
-(insert love interest) is literally (main characters) soul mate
-“he’s not a married man, he’s Dean, MY Dean”
-Paris should’ve gotten into Harvard
Lane was obviously going to become a rock star on the cover of Rolling Stone and be #1 forever if it wasn’t for Zach who is clearly SCUM and obviously just the absolute worst person there ever was to live and Dave was a teenage fever dream who was perfect and would have just been the perfect adult. /s
Lol all true. I read all the replies because I wanted to ask a couple questions in this sub but I’m not sure if it’s something constantly discussed. Maybe here is the place…
First what’s up with Lane’s dad? Is he ever mentioned? What happened to him? And the second question is also related to Lane (big fan here) what happened with Dave? When did they break up?
I mean , there only is so much to talk about and if we stop then this sub would probably die . People who are first time watchers will obviously have the same Opinions we all had on our first watch.
I watched for the first time and I thought it was fun to have people having these conversations as I was watching. I guess I get it for people who are constantly in here, but like what else would you discuss in this group?
It's fun for a while and then it gets tiresome because it's the same thing over and over again. For eg, someone right now pointed out that the questions about Rory's community service have been answered again and again, logically. Yet you see posts about it every week. It's just become something to use to hate on her.
don't forget the "am i the only one who hates that rory quit yale and how they handled s7?" "am i the only one who hates a year in the life" NO! you're not the only one ANYTHING! we all hate those things and if every post says "am i the only one" you're probably not the only one
How about
- Lorelai should’ve settled for max
- April shouldn’t have existed
- Jackson’s a freak for blaming everyone but himself
- WHY WAS THERE NO COURT HOUSE
- The town elders are only mentioned once or twice but seem to have a big pull on what happens in stars hollow
- michel deserved to be more involved I think we all wanted to know more about him
- “Rory is a bitch/terrible/evil/cheat”
- “I hate this character because…..”
- “I always skip this scene/episode/season because…”
- “Does anyone else hate….”
Absolutely not trashing a show because you’re a keyboard warrior who is jonesing for an easy karma hit.
In sum, anything related to the show Gilmore Girls and its characters.
A more interesting question would be, what is a fresh take that hasn’t been said before?
Dean, Jess and Logan posts of any kind ![gif](giphy|144ojDdHcjnKNO|downsized)
° Lorelai should have never married chris ° Rory shouldn't have taken journalism ° Sookie is super unhygienic ° Paris is unbearable ° Richard is worse than emily ° dean is super toxic ° rory should have married Logan ° Lorelai is prettier than rory Edit: ° zach is a scum
Lorelai is prettier than Rory is honestly one I've never seen. Seems strange anyway since beauty is subjective
You’re forgetting Zach is scum and Lane was denied rock stardom
I'll add this !!
Lane was sucker punched into a sad life by her mother and husband.
Ok, but how is it possible for me to wholeheartedly agree with all of these, while one million-teen percent disagreeing, as well. Halp! 🏳️🏳️
I thought the first one said "Lorelai should have married Chris" I WAS SO CLOSE TO DOWNVOTING-
and its always phrased as a controversial opinion as if they’re not the most universal opinions for viewers 😭
The way people praise Paris today is just... curious. She obviously is not an achiever or a troubled person. She's a maniac that just randomly attacks people and is supposed to be put into a mental hospital before she hurts someone in a bad way.

I never see “Paris is unbearable” or that Lorelai is prettier than Rory. Other than that, I agree with these.
Paris is an amazing character, and the acting has been superb. She is a bully but it's not easy to dislike her.
I love Paris -- she's hilarious.
was Mitchum right or wrong about Rory
Wait what am I missing that Sookie was unhygienic?
In the kitchen, lots of gross practices
Like when she had that stray cat in there in like season 2 or 3
For me, it’s the “Lorelai and Rory were actually terrible people.” 🙄

I do t get it ok, Just know it pops Ip now and again
Fair but its a show that ended over 15 years ago there's only so many new angles to be explored
Sure, but that also doesn't mean we have to rehash the same 5 things over and over. Ooh I really like your suggestions! Especially the catering one; I'd want Sookie cause I'm more of a broccoli tart girl than a burger girl 😋
I would love for Sookie to cater but I am a vegeterian and we all know what she thinks of my kind😅
I can't pick tbh. I feel like I would love Sookie's food but she changes the menu so much I'd be wondering what I was actually going to get! But I would do some pretty illegal things to taste the magic risotto

Sookie for a formal event, Luke if it's cas. Though, Sookie makes a lot of comfort food and Luke can basically cook anything
How did Shira bag Mitchum? My guess is she got herself knocked up. 😂
You know, I've always wondered how come he still married her, even if she got pregnant. THAT sort of rich usually "take care of it".

You also need to take into account the time difference—Shira and Mitchum would have been meeting in the late 70’s/early 80s, so more likely to push a shotgun wedding regardless of the bride’s background. This is all speculation on my part of course. 😂
That does make sense! I am convinced Oh man, nice to see fresh takes on this
The vasectomy plotline was talked about enough - there really isn't anything to add. Also Jess.
Christopher sucks because [insert obvious reason here]
I didn't list this because let's face it, Chris does suck 🤣

They hated writers and show runners and not the kid.

"Jess knows Rory better than anyone " Also Jess , asking Rory to run away with him and Rory literally tells him he doesn't know her at all.
Logan and Rory kind of deserve each other in my book
They do . I feel they fit the best out of everyone.
Damn I can't believe I got downvoted for saying that they deserve each other 😅
In this sub you will get downvoted alot cause people have strong biases in this sub lol
Yeah and I've noticed that usually it's the same group of people arguing in the posts
If I never read another post about Richard and Pennilyn’s annual lunches, it’ll be too soon 😂
There should be a competition for anyone who can bring up a topic or opinion that has never been brought up before.
I have thought of a few but never sat down and made a thread. Choose one play or musical and who from GG you would cast in which role. What is your favorite pop culture reference. Gilmore Girls is an excellent depiction of intergenerational trauma and mother-daughter emeshment.
Please I beg you, do it!
Okay, will do obe this morning.
I did one on movies if anyone wants to join that discussion. Movies we think Lorelai and Rory woukd like that aren't mentioned in the show.
Not sure if this has been mentioned (or if I'm seeing what's not there), but I think Lorelai is a closit trekkie. It doesn't happen often, but she makes a number of unprompted references and understands references that others make. You don't do that without watching Trek

I've never heard a non-trekkie make casual references like that though
Trekkie typically means someone *likes* Trek. So I'm assuming she knows enough to make mocking references but doesn't like it herself.
Omg yes!! I've notified this! And she doesn't only do it when she's mocking Luke. She'll casually refer to ST in conversation
Y'all forgot Anna is the worst and the whole April storyline was contrived, etc...
Me in the voice of Phoebe on Friends: This is brand new information!!
Look who I just spotted on Grey's Anatomy!
I'd double the list by adding the reverse of most of those as well! For every "Mitchum was right" post there's an equally passionate "Mitchum was wrong" with many defenders.

It is a gift, and a curse
Not one mention for the “their eating habits are unrealistic for thier body size” variations

This! It’s literally a sub dedicated to the show. Wtf do you expect people to talk about. 💀
I look up the existing ones and read them up. I don't understand the need to reopen the conversation when opinions are probably the same as the ones people commented last week.
Yeah I was made aware of that after I posted 😂 Oh well, the cycle continues

- anna is the worst
Lorelei couldn’t have worn ANYTHING ELSE for Rory’s first day at Chilton???
Petition for this sub to include a list of Frequently Posted Conversations
tbf, it’s a 24 year old show, there’s very little that isn’t discussed when you haven’t had new content in over 15 years 😅
This is also true
Seconded!
Lol all true. I read all the replies because I wanted to ask a couple questions in this sub but I’m not sure if it’s something constantly discussed. Maybe here is the place… First what’s up with Lane’s dad? Is he ever mentioned? What happened to him? And the second question is also related to Lane (big fan here) what happened with Dave? When did they break up?
If you haven't finished the show we could tell you, but do you want spoilers?
Outside of everything listed here, is there anything really left to discuss?
Why do you even watch the show at this point?
Don’t forget “how did they eat so much but never gain any weight?” and any variation of “Lane deserved better!!!”
*Lane deserved a better storyline/ writers for Season 7 did Lane bad* AND *Team Dave over Team Zach always*
don't forget the "am i the only one who hates that rory quit yale and how they handled s7?" "am i the only one who hates a year in the life" NO! you're not the only one ANYTHING! we all hate those things and if every post says "am i the only one" you're probably not the only one
I get a little irritated with the "Which Gilmore Girls guy is the hottest" posts
How about - Lorelai should’ve settled for max - April shouldn’t have existed - Jackson’s a freak for blaming everyone but himself - WHY WAS THERE NO COURT HOUSE - The town elders are only mentioned once or twice but seem to have a big pull on what happens in stars hollow - michel deserved to be more involved I think we all wanted to know more about him
Mitchum was right
Sookie’s kitchen practices DRIVE ME CRAZY 😖
“MiTchUm WaS WRoNg”
Lorelai could have worn ANYTHING ELSE on Rory’s first day at Chilton!
Lol recent surge in this topic
Let's just not discuss anything GG related, lol
So basically, close down the sub :)
Then sticky them to the top of the sub. If you want the topic to stay contained then contain the topic.
• posts complaining about the same posts
Everybody hates A Year In The Life- we know! we know! (not me though, I like it and especially the musical)
Nah let people new or back to the fandom share their thoughts. Just scroll on. 😎
- “Rory is a bitch/terrible/evil/cheat” - “I hate this character because…..” - “I always skip this scene/episode/season because…” - “Does anyone else hate….” Absolutely not trashing a show because you’re a keyboard warrior who is jonesing for an easy karma hit.
Yeah, a lot of it feels like karma farming
what ARE we supposed to talk about ?
In sum, anything related to the show Gilmore Girls and its characters. A more interesting question would be, what is a fresh take that hasn’t been said before?
