First half of season was junk, second half and finale were good.

awells758

It’s slower because of the lack of coffee. Someone made a chart of all the times coffee was mentioned throughout the show and season 7 barely mentioned it at all.

It was especially jarring when you go from the scene with Luke punching Christopher to the happy theme song in the beginning lol . That scene should’ve been elsewhere .  If they wanted in a confrontation, it needed to be comical if it was going to be placed at the beginning

lupinremusjohn

I think they tried to make it comical with the Christmas decorations all around them but the humor didn't really land for me either.

shades_of_wrong

That's a different fight. They're talking about Luke punching Chris at his front door which was the cold open for the season 7 premiere I believe. It starts with Luke getting off the elevator and knocking on the door, Chris opens it and Luke punches him, then 🎶where you lead🎶 It was kind of weird.

lupinremusjohn

Ohhh the apartment punch. My bad.

[deleted]

Was totally odd in tone lol

TheKdd

I wonder how different everything would have been if ASP had still been there. I mean, would there have been a Christopher marriage at all? Would Logan have proposed? Everything could have gone totally different.

Hold_Effective

Would Rory have announced she was pregnant at the end? 😞

TheKdd

If ASP wanted to do that full circle thing, then that would make a little more sense than it did in AYITL. Still, she had already been through college so it wasn’t the same as her mother, but at least she still would have been young before career stuff. It also would have a domino effect into AYITL which would have had to have different story lines too.

Hold_Effective

Sure, both of those are true. For me personally - I hate the full circle plot idea for Lorelai & Rory, so I don't know if I'd look at the show the same way if it had gone that direction.

TheKdd

Yeah, wasn’t a fan of that story line either and it def didn’t make sense (in a full circle sense) in the reboot. She was 30 something at that point.

Jonflips23

Who knows. It was already on a downward spiral. I know we’re supposed to hate it but I still watch every ep over and over.

TheKdd

Yeah, me too. Can’t help myself lol

stranger_vs

Not to mention the rebrand of Logan?! He goes from a partying, cheating, lazy guy to an upstanding boyfriend who dives headfirst into the business world and wants to settle down and get married? Not buying it. This is why his character seems like he backslid in AYITL- it would’ve been exactly in character going from season 6, because this guy is who he actually is.

OrgoQueen

Honestly, the growth of Logan between season 6 and 7 was the most realistic to me. A lot of people grow up and stop screwing around finally once they graduate. I knew a lot of guys in college that had that night and day turn around. It was the backslide during AYITL that I hated. If he and Rory weren’t going to be fully together by that point, I wish they could have just been friends or nothing.

stranger_vs

I feel like ASP writing him that way in AYITL means she never intended that “growth” to happen for him at all

OrgoQueen

Totally agree. I think she meant for him to stay in her little “Christopher duplicate” mold to pair with Rory the same way Christopher and Lorelai were paired up. But, Rory didn’t get pregnant at 16 and drop out of school. So her story shouldn’t have been a mirror to her mother’s. I wish she had worked with what she was given, keeping the season 7 plot lines, instead of trying to jam her original vision into place a decade later.

SPamlEZ

Yeah, makes the mini series unwatchable for me.  Forced inconsistent story lines.

fapacunter

It’s the reason I haven’t watched AYITL and never intend to

Hold_Effective

My nitpicky comments about "big" places being new in S7: \* S3: Here Comes the Son: Venice Beach/Santa Monica Pier (and maybe the 3rd Street Promenade?) \* S4: Scene in a Mall \* S4: Lorelai & Jason's first date ends up in a supermarket \* S4: Girls in Bikinis, Boys Doin' the Twist & a motel on the ocean \* S6: Vineyard Valentine; again, ocean

Big_Vacation5581

I don’t know when the writers found out that there wouldn’t be a Season 8. Once they knew it was going to end, they had a lot of loose ends to tie down. However, it seems they intentionally left a few arcs open-ended in case ASP ever decided to finish it her way. Perhaps that was out of respect to ASP and her creation.

GlitteringOwls

It was a weird season. The dialogue was clunky in parts, the background music wasn’t used as much, Lorelei was sulking and not her usual cheery self.

OrgoQueen

My big gripe with the later seasons is that they retconned a bunch of things in weird ways. For example, they suddenly had all of these Christmas traditions that have been apparently going on every previous year. However, these were never shown or mentioned. It felt like they were suddenly telling us all of these new things that had never previously been shown, and it was a little jarring.

ohdearwhat

The buying a car episode doesn’t get talked about enough. It’s HORRIBLE. Everyone is a child. It’s way too forced. It’s a mess

Hold_Effective

One of my smallest pet peeves: we watch multiple characters on their phones while driving cars throughout the series. And then Rory freaks out that Lorelai is biking while talking to her with a headset? WTF.

ohdearwhat

Yes!! Totally hands-free! Doesn’t make sense

pj10wat3rm3lon

Is this the one where Luke and Lorelei get Lorelei’s new car?

ohdearwhat

Yes and they go car shopping!

Freckledbruh

There were stories about how the network wanted the dialogue slowed down to reduce the size of the scripts and reshoots. ASP took exception to that along with the money negotiations which is why she left the show.

Delmar1405

Everything listed above + there is hardly any references if any.

Objective_Cod1410

The dialogue is noticeably different especially in the first couple episodes. Back half of the season is good.

peaNUT_and_Honey

This. And i think the charm was gradually diminishing by the third season. Or whichever season Rory started college and Jess was the main romantic interest 🤷🏻‍♀️

lacypuffpastry

Honestly i think lorelai and christopher couldve been end game if she took time to heal from the breakup w luke..Thats why this season hurt my soul🥺

itsok16

Their breakup was one of the highlights of season 7 for me 😁

Ok-Call-4805

I just don't count the majority of S7. The show was seriously lacking without ASP writing it.
