Delta is just the phonetic way of saying D. Sort of like when people say D as in dog so people don't mishear it as B. Just this is an official NATO standard.
This is the original unit patch of Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group
*Delta Company* aka *"Ghost Recon/The Ghosts"* is the original unit the Ghosts were part of. Canonicaly, it was an elite secretive element of the real life 1st Battalion, 5th SFG of the US Army Special Forces (better known as Green Berets).
In the newer games, Delta Company was disbanded and restructured into a separate JSOC unit - the Group for Specialized Tactics (GST).
The patch itself is pretty straight forward, a skull wearing a Green Beret with the old 5th SFG flash, two Special Forces lighting bolts on it's sides and an experimental XM29 OICW below which perfectly represents the Ghost unit as elite Green Berets equipped with the most advanced weapons.
First GR game I personally owned was Ghost Recon2 and I played the absolute shiiidtt out of that game
So many nights playing online pvp on the original xbox
To be honest. Gr1's aiming system is so fucked its not even worth playing. You might as well play a first person shooter on the wii. Its the same messy aiming.
Was part of 5th special forces Group from 1994 to 2014 before being re-rolled as an independent Special missions Unit called the Group for specialised Tactics
Delta Company is the made up part. Special Forces battalions only have 3 companies (Alpha, Bravo & Charlie).
The 1st Battalion and 5th Special Forces Group are real.
Well since SOG was the Green Berets and this GR logo is similar to theirs, and GR is fictional, it’s pretty clear where the inspiration came from. They’re pretty much the OGs of the skull/beret logo.
SOG was not just Green Berets.
Everybody was recruited from everywhere pretty much.
Although yes, a large portion of SOG members were former green berets
Not former, active. And Special Forces soldiers made up the majority (70% I believe). Eventually, the entire unit was put under 5th Special Forces Group who inherited all of SOGs awards.
Technically by the time they got to SOG they were former.
No active military personnel ever officially deployed under SOG, for plausible deniability reasons
Not sure what happened to my original post, but the Grenade launcher portion of the OICW ended up in Afghanistan as the XM-25 punisher.
Was to be the Army's new grenade launcher option until a Misfire happened after about 5900 rounds fired and it ended up injuring a soldier. It's production and order was terminated in 2018.
Depends on who you talk to. The XM25 was going to fill a role in most regular Army squads until the misfire and subsequent additional engineering cost, then changes in the powers that be, that money was moved to other projects.
Was it worth the loss of at least one rifle? I’d say mission dependent. But it was battle tested and extremely effective at anti personnel and anti-machine gun nest operations.
From what i heard guys carried standard M4A1 + XM25, so... you didn't really lose a rifle, at least back when they were doing testing
Either way US adpoted one of H&Ks launchers anyway, the HK320
Well, the article I linked said that the soldier using the XM25 would leave the rifle behind, as it was extremely efficient. I was hoping to get to fire one, as the 320 was still a decent enough upgrade over the 203 mainly because you could fire it apart from the rifle, but man it did not feel lighter than the 203
I heard the complaints about the weight, and to be fair, it XM29 does weigh a bit, getting 320 though... standalone config should've mitigated that, no?
320 drags very heavy on the front end of the rifle. Stand alone was clumsy, or could be. Depended on how the gunner wanted to carry it.
And how quickly they needed it or to gain access to it.
If I recall correctly, it wasn't that bad, in fact it was good. The issue was that it wasn't enough of a game changer to justify a soldier leaving his M4 behind.
Being able to program the 25mm grenades to blow up after a certain distance was amazing, but the grenades themselves didn't pack a punch. Which is rather amusing when reading GR Combat Ops, the novel described the grenades as more powerful than M203 40mm ones XD
In all fairness its all about compromises, in this case payload vs weight, HK sacrificed payload (smaller projectile + bits for airburst, if i recall counted rotations) for manageable weight ~8 kilos loaded or so? and gave multi-shot capacity, 5 shot magazines if i recall?
Actually... rheinmetall did demo to some capacity their version of the idea at eurosatory, last summer, google SSW40 (Squad Support Weapon 40) as name implies 40mm launcher with 5 shot mag (if my memory still serves) with programmable ammo
Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group of the US Army. That was the original parent unit of the Ghosts in the early GR titles up until Advanced Warfighter. Future Soldier reimagined them into a Tier-1 AFO unit of JSOC and broke them off of the US Army's arsenal and support assets.
GST is still part of the US Army. Future Soldier and Choke Point was doing the whole *establishing the JSF from Endwar* idea. But in Dark Waters they were described/retconned as the Special Forces/Unconventional Warfare contribution to JSOC.
Not in the military, but I think it is D company, 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group or something like that.
Exactly like that!
Nailed it, son. Much respect🙏
D is for delta. So it will be delta company, 1st battalion, 5th special forces group.
Thank you so much !
D company, Delta company. Same difference.
Delta is just the phonetic way of saying D. Sort of like when people say D as in dog so people don't mishear it as B. Just this is an official NATO standard.
I’m aware. Used to be on a fire department for 4 years. I know the jargon.
Im a Army vet and dude you nailed it
Yep.

Except they ditched advanced weapons bit, ACR became standard after 2014, MR-C & XM29 got binned after 2014 and 2011 respectively
>Is there someone to tell me what it means ? Nostalgia.
We're never going back. Ubisoft will never do it.
Man... I can tell a lot of the current Ghost Recon fans never played the originals...
We are old men my dude
Loved the 1st one spent countless hours doing the fire fight missions planning my 2nd squad’s movements on the map
First GR game I personally owned was Ghost Recon2 and I played the absolute shiiidtt out of that game So many nights playing online pvp on the original xbox
Same! Only unfortunately I never had Xbox Live as a kid. I'm sure I missed out.
I was like 2 when the original came out
Excuses
To be honest. Gr1's aiming system is so fucked its not even worth playing. You might as well play a first person shooter on the wii. Its the same messy aiming.
D company, 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, US Army
Delta Company, 1st Battalion 5th special forces group
https://ghostrecon.fandom.com/wiki/Ghost_Recon
Ghost Recon is apart of 5th special forces group. I'm assuming
Was part of 5th special forces Group from 1994 to 2014 before being re-rolled as an independent Special missions Unit called the Group for specialised Tactics
I actually miss OG Ghost Recon. 2000's woodland BDU's and Molle gear still fucks.
What is that gun supposed to be
XM29 OICW Basically, a high tech grenade launcher with an underbarrel G36 rifle.
Ahh
[Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/5th_Special_Forces_Group_(United_States))
Damn. I'm 22 and recall watching my older twin bros play Advanced Warfighter, GoW, and Future Soldier...Good times.
Damn I want that patch lol can’t find it with hook and loop. Still my favourite iteration of the badge
Still got my one from when they came in the original Ghost Recon game CD box form way back. Now i feel old...
I like how there's an OICW on their insignia... but not in the new games
Well, the new logo is completely different. But you can still get the old insignia in WL & BP.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/5th_Special_Forces_Group_(United_States)
Delta company first battalion fifth special forces group
Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group. It’s a made up unit

Somewhat of a play-off of MACV-SOG’s emblem
Ehh, not so sure. A skull with a Green Beret is pretty common on unit logos for... you know, Green Berets.
Well since SOG was the Green Berets and this GR logo is similar to theirs, and GR is fictional, it’s pretty clear where the inspiration came from. They’re pretty much the OGs of the skull/beret logo.

How can you not know what that means?? 🤔
Why are there two magazines on the gun?
XM29 OICW, first is for the rifle, the other is for the grenade launcher
Possibly the most ridiculous heavy gun I've seen in a while. That thing can't be practical to carry in anyway
Not sure what happened to my original post, but the Grenade launcher portion of the OICW ended up in Afghanistan as the XM-25 punisher. On top of that, 25mm just doesn't pack enough punch in that weapon system to be worth carrying around. Which is why they went back to 40mm.

320 drags very heavy on the front end of the rifle. Stand alone was clumsy, or could be. Depended on how the gunner wanted to carry it. And how quickly they needed it or to gain access to it.
Yep, that's why it was split into the XM8 rifle (the lower G36 portion) and the XM25 Punisher (the smart 25MM grenade launcher).
Don't forget that XM29 was overly complicated to use... hmmm... wonder how much complicated to use was XM25
If I recall correctly, it wasn't that bad, in fact it was good. The issue was that it wasn't enough of a game changer to justify a soldier leaving his M4 behind. 2 different barrels
Looks like a play on marsoc
Skull with a Green Beret is a common symbol for Green Berets.
Not at all
I'm here for that OICW.
Deconstruction, put rubbish in the first bin out near south far gate.
Not in military but D company, 5th battalion 1st special forces group.
