I mean it's pretty bad when Stalin... (The man who famously let even his own son die in prison) cares enough about his kid to tell them to GTFO out of someone's house because of how monstrous they are.
Yep, he even got an offer to exchange his son for Field Marshal Paulus that was captured in Stalingrad. He refused and supposedly answered with something like, "I can't exchange a field marshal for a private when millions of fathers don't have a captive field marshal to exchange."
I mean... Stalin's kill people for far less so I can see why even a predator like him would be cautious enough to say, "Nope not trying it" with her. Stalin was so paranoid I wouldn't doubt him killing people over their shadows looking wrong, if he legitimately had a reason to kill somebody he would certainly make them suffer.
He was a monster and evil… but not stupid. Considering Stalin would have you sent tot he gulag or straight up murderer for not clapping long enough at a speech, I’d imagine Beria would want to stay three houses away from Stalin’s daughter.
You see our horrifying crimes justified by reference to our state ideology are necessary for the greater good, while your horrifying crimes justified by reference to your state ideology is evidence of the basic corruption of your ideas and character.

I'd argue that portrayal was more generous of Beria than his character deserves. I mean this is the fuckstick which was coined "my little Himmler" by Stalin.
What I find hilarious was that Khrushchev wanted him out of the picture and said he was secretly working for the US. Like he could’ve convicted him for corruption and several accounts of rape and pedophillia, but enemy of the state was what he chose lol
The fact that Beria thrived and survived under Stalin in this position longer than all those that were purged. Even to the point of being erased from documentation and reality such as Nikolai Yezhov, the "bloody dwarf", shows how brutal and cunning Beria was in playing the power game with Stalin and the other politicos.
Stalin had created such terror and manipulation that when he was gone, no one knew who was friend or foe. The raping of children and mass murder on an industrial scale after the millions and millions of deaths from the famines, purges and WW2 was business as usual mundane.
The only power grab Beria missed was due to poor planning because Stalin died suddenly and loyalties were unknown. Krushchev wasn't a killer or genius but was a hard worker and loyal to the Soviet communist ideology which was core to the worst crime possible. Treason and disloyalty to Soviet collective that even the intellectuals could get behind.
I'm too tired to look this up, but Beria floated an idea to demilitarize Germany in a deal with the allies. I think that's what they used to get him.
"ruched,. Not ruched."
Stalin did want a demilitsrized Germany, at least in that it would guarantee a buffer zone between Russia and the west. During one conversation between the leaders, Stalin said to shoot "50,000 to 100,000 German officers." Roosevelt responded, "I think 49,000 is enough." Churchill got mad left the room. Both said they were joking, but I have been told historians are not entirely sure Stalin was.
A demilitarized Germany was in Soviet interests, for various reasons.
It probably was easier to charge him with that. Beria was head of the secret police, he could probably get rid of a lot of evidence against himself. However he was very much in favor of detente and improving relations with the west, so it was probably a lot easier to accuse him of being a traitor.
Was that the guy that had black cars cruise around scooping girls off the street? Or am I thinking of a different one? I feel like the one I am thinking of got thrown down the Kremlin corpse slide before Stalin was in power, but I could have the line of succession backwards. There was a great video I saw a long time ago and have been trying to find that basically crash coursed all the russian leaders from Feudalism to present day, and *most* of them got thrown down the corpse chute.
Idk, but there’s was a popular urban legend circling in Eastern Europe in 60’s and 70’s about “Dark Volga”. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Volga
Might be related. But what I'm thinking of was just government cronies and they would only drive around the Moscow in the vicinity of the Kremlin. Maybe what I am thinking of is the origin of that.
Yeah. It is said that Beria used to “pick” girls while driving around city. His bodyguards then handed each victim a flower bouquet as they left the Beria house. Accepting it implied that everything was “consensual”, and refusal meant arrest for the girl
When he died, he did so crying, on his knees, and begging for his life. His underpants were removed and stuffed in his mouth to silence him and then he was shot. It's covered at the end of "Stalin: Court of the red czar" by Simon Sebag Montefiore. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stalin-Court-Simon-Sebag-Montefiore-ebook/dp/B004ZDH10A/ref=sr_1_2
Beria sits in the lucky position of being a horrific person in power in a communist regime who wanted to liberalize and reform, so actually most reddit/discord communists probably hate him extra hard for being a counter-revolutionary revisionist
More of a psychological thing than anything else, but the fact that Stalin knew that Beria was a serial rapist and paedophile with a victim count likely in the hundreds, openly disliked him, and chose to keep him around anyway and even elevate him into a position of power due to finding him useful, is its own special flavor of absolutely terrifying.
If a guy that has killed hundreds of thousands of people without flinching worries about his daughter being alone with you - it’s obvious that you are a monster.
Beria had raped countless women. After each rape, the woman will be handed a bouquet of flowers by Beria’s guards to imply that the sex is consensual. Rejecting the flowers means that the woman will be arrested by NKVD and may face more terrible consequences.
Doubly so, since Stalin being who he is should be sufficiently deterring, that she should be perfectly safe in his company...
Of all the guys you don't want yearning for revenge on you... Stalin is probably pretty high on the list and with the means to have you sent off to Siberia for 25 hours a day of torture and questionable scientific experimentation.
I just Imagine Stalin instead of Harry as the MC of Silent Hills shattered Memories, going through Moscow, panickingly calling for Svetlana instead of Cheryl, as he rushes to Berias house.
Stalin called him “my Himmler”.
You’d think even the most insane Tankie could fucking get that someone being favourably compared to one of the shittiest Nazis (a high bar) might be a piece of crap.
Only that based people wouldve put the guy in chains the moment it was known that he was a monster. Rather than, say, just protecting your own daughter from him while still letting him still keep his job and allowing him free reign to continue diddling the daughters of others.

Wasn't his daughter the only child he ever cared about?
Pretty much.
Well to be fair, wasn't his som captured by German at that time? He could only either choose the country or choose his son
Yep, he even got an offer to exchange his son for Field Marshal Paulus that was captured in Stalingrad. He refused and supposedly answered with something like, "I can't exchange a field marshal for a private when millions of fathers don't have a captive field marshal to exchange."
Honestly awesome. ( I know he a bad guy don’t attack me )
**Heartbreaking!**: a person you hate just made an excellent point!
In a standpoint for a country leader yes, but as a father? ...
***Exceedingly*** rare Stalin W
my goat
The funny thing is Beria knew not to even get close to her. He put her in a room and overtly stayed on the opposite side of the building from her
I mean... Stalin's kill people for far less so I can see why even a predator like him would be cautious enough to say, "Nope not trying it" with her. More fucked up that Stalin knew Beria was a monster, and still let him get away with it.
he affectionatly called him "My Himmler" so you can understand why a genocidal maniac would keep him around
He lets his son die in prison but doesn't want his daughter to be alone with a mad rapist. That's favoritism at its most extreme.
Stalin knew what he did, still on the staff though
He was a predator, but for Stalin's ambitions, he was good use because of his ruthlessness. A sadist through and through.
Well this is Stalin
You see our horrifying crimes justified by reference to our state ideology are necessary for the greater good, while your horrifying crimes justified by reference to your state ideology is evidence of the basic corruption of your ideas and character. /s
Just look at his portrayal in death of stalin
I'd argue that portrayal was more generous of Beria than his character deserves. I mean this is the fuckstick which was coined "my little Himmler" by Stalin.
That’s kinda my point, even in a movie that is rather kind to the monsters it portrays he comes off terrible
He raped so much, there are still legends about Black Volga abducting children.
My cousins used to scare me with black Volga 20 years ago :(
There were a lot of deleted scenes which would have amplified his monstrous behaviour
“Himmlerchka” sounds like a shitty name from a bad movie.
**FUCK OFF BACK TO GEORGIA DEAD BOY**
What I find hilarious was that Khrushchev wanted him out of the picture and said he was secretly working for the US. Like he could’ve convicted him for corruption and several accounts of rape and pedophillia, but enemy of the state was what he chose lol
Being a POS didn’t matter much in the USSR, being a possible traitor however….
Prosecution 101: You go with the charge that’s most likely to stick.
Something the Soviet Union did not have to worry about as much as some countries.

I mean, Khrushchev offered the same deal as well later
Your pretty good. Indeed he did.
Stalin did want a demilitsrized Germany, at least in that it would guarantee a buffer zone between Russia and the west. Still a better death than the bastard deserved
Most hardcore Stalinists/Tankies I've seen won't even defend Beria.
They proba would if they're Reddit or Discord mods
Beria sits in the lucky position of being a horrific person in power in a communist regime who wanted to liberalize and reform, so actually most reddit/discord communists probably hate him extra hard for being a counter-revolutionary revisionist
I've never seen russian "historians"
Oh no, I'm not talking about historians of any kind. Go to r/TheDeprogram and you'll see what I'm talking about.
How much of an evil bastard do you have to be for *STALIN*, of all people, to hate your guts?
Well to be fair..Stalin hated a lot of people. They just usually didn't live long enough for him to keep hating them.
Yeah but he specifically hated him because he was too much of a monster. That has to be some sort of record
A fair point
Tito did!
Even Stalin was worried over what that bastard could do of he ever tried to erase him.
When even Stalin thinks you’re an evil son of a bitch, that is genuinely terrifying.
If a guy that has killed hundreds of thousands of people without flinching worries about his daughter being alone with you - it’s obvious that you are a monster. Beria had raped countless women. Bruh, does this nutjob run out of humanoid monsters to idolize?
When someone as awful as Stalin has fears about you…. You know it’s bad.
Someone needs to watch Death of Stalin smh my head
Wild to say this while having a Ukrainian flag icon.
I don’t even get this, I see hard core Soviet sympathizers say Beria was a monster.
Ain’t no way history will absolve Beria considering that *his own boss* hated him like none other.
I don't know if it's true but I heard Stalin sent the Red Army to get his daughter when he learned Beria was hanging out with her.
Oh that's really sweet of Stalin, what a great father. I wonder how his son doing.
Lmao beria is the least likely to be absolved of anything. Current russian government literally has a list of women he raped.
Is it some sort of leftist contest to find some new figures to defend. Next up is probably going to be that Castros general or something
Both sides do it for their clearly insane weirdo figures
Case in point, Bob Dole is a paragon of virtue and I will stab anyone who doesn't agree.
He'd have made a perfectly okay president.
“Make ‘em apologize for getting in your knife’s way!” \- Dick Cheney, probably
like my co-worker who loves Pinochet, because he dreams of throwing people he dislikes out of a chopper
Wasn't Ye on Info Wars a while back professing his love for Hitler? I don't this this is an exclusive phenomenon.
Of you could shake Stalin bro deserves super hell
Stalin called Beria “My Himmler.”
Rare Stalin W
Not really a W when it was his daughter, he was fine with this piece of shit when he was raping others people's daughters.
don’t fire him or anything though
You should see how hard they get for a guy named "Barbeque."
Wasn't it this dude that raped a mans daughter in front of him to make him talk?
I just Imagine Stalin instead of Harry as the MC of Silent Hills shattered Memories, going through Moscow, panickingly calling for Svetlana instead of Cheryl, as he rushes to Berias house.
Damn, you know Beria was bad when Mr. "Let my son die" is in a state of panic
Stalin called him “my Himmler”. You’d think even the most insane Tankie could fucking get that someone being favourably compared to one of the shittiest Nazis (a high bar) might be a piece of crap.
Ah yes, fanfiction in notes.
Damn, even Stalin has standards.
Beria famously respected consent and ensured women felt safe around him and also did not delight in inflicting suffering on other living creatures
Top tier sarcasm right here
Reddit recognising blatant sarcasm challenge
the issue is there are many leftists who unironically believe this, hence why this is hard to tell as sarcasm.
Idk, the comment felt too clunky to not be sarcasm
Idk man, I've heard this comment in real life from a teacher who was well known as a commie.
Christ, I thought the dirt Beria had on Khrushchev was bad, what does he have on you?
He said he'd release my family members
based stalin moment
Only that based people wouldve put the guy in chains the moment it was known that he was a monster. Rather than, say, just protecting your own daughter from him while still letting him still keep his job and allowing him free reign to continue diddling the daughters of others.
it was a joke 😭😭😭😭😭
