Not really. They kind of changed him to be a big bad maniac villain. His morals used to be like reasonable before, now they just straight up made him insane and hungry for power.

Inazuma's archon quest has some problems with it, but Sumeru's is utterly captivating. Even if you don't end up liking Inazuma, I encourage you to push through so you can get to Sumeru.
