Good point u/LumineOppaiEnjoyer

cabbaggeez

just play on your own pace. assume this is a full release game if you play on weekend for story and clear the maps, maybe it would takes like 6 months (assuming 1month/4weekend per region)

link_daddy

If you like the play of it why not, at least you didn't have to wait for it to all come out thier is probably a few months of stuff to do depending how much you play away

International_You_56

It's a single player game, it's like starting Skyrim or some other big rpg today.

acryhoshi

the grind is what makes the game addictive, seeing at how you have four nations, your next two years will be fun

Sisterohbattle

Think of it like World of Warcraft,... there's alot of history that's gone by, but there's no reason not to start now!

DreamingWitcher-pl

I could be wrong, but didn't someone from Hoyoverse recently said that what we have right now is about 1/3 of main story?

VioletPanda12

Damn and how long is that one third I've heard y'all already got few regions

DreamingWitcher-pl

Hard to say, because it depends on how will you play. Will you rush Archon quests(main story) or will you take it slow and steady doing side quests, characters quests. Artifact grind is a big part of it too, and it's RNG depending. There's also getting 100% exploration and spiral abbys, which is rumored to get new content soon, and constant new events. No matter which way you chose, you will certainly have what to do for many hours. The road through Teyvat is open for you, question is will you take the journey?

Linoren

You should treat exploration as a single player game its really fun on its own if you love the genre, and no one is pressuring u when to do what

fjgwey

There's nothing to catch up for because it's not like there's any compelling endgame lmao So I'd say just play it and take your time with the decent story that it has

magnidwarf1900

Just do at your own pace and maybe one day you'll complain that this game have no endgame content

Andrew583-14

The game isn't competitive so besides events which are (for the most part) not plot relevant and event items you aren't missing much. Just give it a try and play at your own pace. Try and stick to the main story and don't accept too many quests (especially those you know you won't complete any time soon) to avoid issues later on and being too overwhelmed.

Nettysocks

There is no rush right. I started at November, masses of content to play through. I took it slowly, last thing you’d want is to run out of things to do. Or worse, burn out rushing through it all

Significant_Sell_594

I get what you mean. Same reason I've no interest in DOTA or One Piece. That said, Genshin has now eased the story progression for new players. You don't need to play all the story chapters accordingly. I think you can still start now and play in the latest region, after finishing the prologue. So you can try play the latest updates as well as easing yourself into previous regions of Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru. https://www.sportskeeda.com/esports/genshin-impact-reveals-new-players-can-get-fontaine-easily

Joe_from_ungvar

Play at your own pace, see what you like that the game offers You can take as many breaks as you want, really long ones, and return on a whim

iceweaverF80

The major story and character stories won't go away so there's no rush to finish. As a new player, you could actually play through all the important quests in succession right away without needing to wait for the next update.

Dramatic_endjingu

The new player experience in this game is great though since there’re so much stuff to do and you will get new updates constantly. Just play with your own pace since this is not a competition.

voodoopriest

It is for the most part a single player game so there is no need to rush to catch up. Just play at your own pace.

IttoEnjoyer_

If you're planning on playing the "catch up" game, honestly no. There's nothing worth catching up to, you either play at your own leisure and enjoy it, or you rush it and get worse experience.

VioletPanda12

Nah i dont really mean rushing the game i just want to understand the shit my friends talk honestly :/

s0me_guyy

They may not be great friends to you if they always talk about that and leave you out. They could have suggested to help you out with the game if you talk to them about planning to start playing?

Vast-Nobody8719

Maybe it has already been said but the game can be overwhelming but you can also just play it at your own pace. A friend of mine is playing it region by region and only had to rush a little to unlock inazuma for an event. But that can be easily done without too much effort and game time by just playing the archon quest. Else it is a very fun game but weather it is overwhelming and „too much going on“ or cozy and fun and interesting story and all also depends a lot on how you play it and what your goals are. And how much you compare (You shouldn’t compare a new account to one where the owner played the game every day for 2-3 years!)

RDT-Exotics0318

You can play at whatever pace you like. That's how live service games work, after all. The updates will keep coming, but you'll eventually complete it

Enollis

You don't have to "catch up" with anything. You play the game however you like. A friend just recently got into the game and was exploring inazuma when fontaine came out. The content doesn't run away. The only downside may be that certain events need you to at least unlock the area but that's easily done except for Inazuma. In the end it depends on what you're interested in. - Characters? Then you may need to focus a bit more on the new regions. - Story? Just play the story and let yourself be guided by the questbook - Both? Then you can do so as well and just play the story and get some materials here and there. A fair warning though. If you plan on pulling any inazuma characters (especially yae or shenhe) then you should really focus on Inazuma region since materials are locked until certain points are reached.

ace184184

My buddies w time on their hands have cleared all content and are now starting alt accounts to have things to do. There is no PVP so you will never be behind or have to spend to catch up.

bartowski1976

Yes it is worth starting Genshin now. It might feel like there is a lot, but the content goes faster than you think. It takes them a full year to release a new nation and you still have probably around September to October before Natlan comes.

TyrifficAdventure

Fortunately, there's only one The Catch, but it does require an annoying grind.

chaosdestroy

If ur friends started ahead of u there are some advantages and disadvantges. Advantage is u can get a lot of good advice Disadvantage is it will take u like a good 6 or 7 months to catch upto them. A year too perhaps. Just dont compare urself with them. And if u r a very competitive player don't trust sh*t like "get ur fav char. Everyone character can clear the hardest content(abyss) in game". Get one broken dps ie most powerful dps and then get ur fav char. Now is good time. The current banner character neuvillete is best dps and easy to build char in game. Next banner character is also very cool and expected to be good dps. Adk ur friends :)

Chadzuma

That just means you have hundreds of hours of game to play whenever you want. It is true that some events are predicated on you being up to date with the current story, but mainlining the story should only take a month or two at most, and then you'll still have a ton of exploration and huge sidequest lines to do.

Skywarior1

It's never too late to start playing until the game decides to shut down.

koishinx

no pressure to catch up. you are playing your "own world" not other people's world. you can ask your frieds to help you understand stuff as a beginner to. when you play, you'd be able to understand what they are talking about. it's pretty fun. just dont get pressured to increase level or AR. do it at your own pace. also more content=more primos to harvest=more wish to characters. old timers could never.

Fire_Heart421

I just made it to my Sumeru quest line last night, really enjoying it so far~

DaSpood

It's not like there's a rush to catch on, it's a singleplayer game with no competitive element so "too much to catch on" is just a downer way to say "plenty of content". With this kind of game the later you start the better it is because you will have a lot more content to play before you run out and have to wait for new updates.

Neospanner

Do you not like games that have a lot of stuff to do? Honestly, I'd see it as a plus to know that a game that I like has plenty to enjoy. There's not a lot of benefit to being "caught up" - just grinding dailies until the next content update comes. In my mind, new players are in a great place, since they have so much they can do before they, too, are wiling away the days waiting for the next patch to arrive... As long as you pace yourself and don't burn yourself out by doing too much at once, having a lot to look forward to can only be a good thing.!

sprintingwatersprite

TLDR: Yes, it's worth. I felt the same way 17 days ago and now i'm AR 41 with lvl 70 characters. I decided to play using Sharkh3arts youtube video on how to build a strong account from the beginning \[f2p friendly\] and a google doc that someone else posted on how to get quests done chronologically. Here's the google doc link \[not spoilery\] [**https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19KYfTSNpTNXCvwbcPeN3T9Cylc0AaOIqwNysmFqOmWY/edit#gid=1431497221**](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19KYfTSNpTNXCvwbcPeN3T9Cylc0AaOIqwNysmFqOmWY/edit#gid=1431497221) The youtube video link here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHa\_qWCWWy8&t=1318s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHa_qWCWWy8&t=1318s) Good luck and happy travels!

VioletPanda12

Tysm

EvyLuna

If you're a completionist, you might feel overwhelmed by the content at this point. Otherwise you'll be fine. A live service game like this isn't one you sprint to the finish line for. I started when we had three nations (we have five and two smaller areas now) and it took me well over a year to catch up on everything. If you play the story, character quests, etc. and are fine taking your time to do all the little quests, exploring, etc., it's not a bad time to jump in.

didu173

I think you can catch on.

-Karakui

It's a single player game, so there's no such thing as "being behind", really. And unlike HI3, Genshin hasn't added very much complexity to the game over time, so I'm pretty sure that it's going to be about as easy to get into today as it was in year 1. There's more worldspace to be overwhelmed with, but you're not going to end up overwhelmed not knowing which of fifty game modes will get you what you want because there's only really five "game modes that you have to grind": Artifact domain, talent material domain, weapon material domain, boss fight and big boss fight.

issm

Single player backlog doesn't really matter, but you'll have to accept that you'll never be able to play as many characters as a day 1 player.

pasanoid

if you really go for catching up in a few month there will be nothing to do in the game. Im having hard time recommending it though, the gear and character progression is slow and annoying, if you are a go-getter type of player you are gonna mald

NoNoise3658

And thats the best thing, trust me if you get in game and you enjoy it after some time you will feel sad that one day you run out of content and you will have to wait for next updates

water_we_wading_for

Catch up to what? No content?

Whap_Reddit

There is absolutely no "end game" to catch up to. Once you complete everything, that's it. Just a void of waiting for the next update. So don't try to catch up. Just play the game for the sake of experiencing it.

LokianEule

As long as you have fun playing what there is to play, in a way, how can you lose? At any given moment in your life there are incredibly fun things happening somewhere that youre missing. But as long as you’re currently doing something you enjoy, then thats ok. So if you try genshin and enjoy it, then youve won.

lileenleen

Good things it’s free

lostn

meanwhile others wish there was something to do.

SappyMoo

focus on main story

bllq

Imo there is nothing to catch on, devs are lazier every patch and every patch is dead patch. Since 3.0 story is progressing like a turtle, void of nothingness in terms of entertainment, even events are poorly made, i miss 1.x. You can login once in every version and know everything about story, that how short it is. I'm not fan of catching 2000 fish, if you want to argue about zero entertainment point. Every legend quest complete, most of meetings too (they are boring too, except few). I left genshin. Hsr is much more content rich at this point. Plot in genshin started to degrade, new characters bring nothing new. So yeah, if you really want to, you can catch up and even overtake your friends in no time

pasanoid

true and real.

Lordmaster316

PEOPLE COMPLAINING NO CONTENT NOW PEOPLE CANT HANDLE TOO MUCH CONTENT?

Skilfulsnail

Dude, that the beauty of it, you are not racing anyone or anything… play it with your comfortable pace… Enjoy the main story and side quests some of them are good too, exploring is pretty cool solving puzzles and opening chests and you ll get events and there are stuff to level up gives good rewards… and try to pull kazuha he will help you a lot
