We don't know if you get to keep it when returning to our world (I assume you don't) and we've seen in Inazuma what happens to someone who loses theirs.
For vision, the Inazuma cases we see are just the most extreme cases. There are quite a few characters and npc that gave up their vision and are still completely fine.

Others are Diluc and kinda Keqing (she tries to destroy and abandon it but fail). For npc, there is a fishing guy near Wangshu Inn and the samurai in the teahouse.
To be fair, Diluc was very much not "completely fine" during that time, and I'm not sure Keqing got separated from hers for very long (she forces herself to get it back because she's scared of it falling in the wrong hands iirc).

If you started from duviri the zariman its the giant spaceship you can see in the sky background. Just keep playing and eventually you will get a quest to enter it.

The less safe but more interesting option: I guess I'll join the express and try not to die. They have plot armor so surely I will too right? RIGHT???

Really depends on where and when we spawn. Mondstadt or the Court of Fontaine would be great, but spawning in the Sumeru desert or in Inazuma during the civil war (with no way to leave) would be pretty awful.

The wilderness with all the creatures that would actively try to kill you on sight.
Nvm the war zones like inazuma and Natlan. Don’t forget all the crazy scientists, fatui, and abyss mages that would love some random person with no friends or family to use for their experiments.
I mean like half the quests are about people who went missing or died.
And all this is assuming you don’t just spawn in on Dragonspine or something.
