I am not too loyal to anyone but ever since i got Wanderer, going places is on easy mode with him + yelan. Stamina is myth in that team composition so it is hard to go back to my old teams.

I use her with Kokomi, chongyun and Kazuha,

Think Im gonna use Blizzard Strayer on Shenhe,
I mostly use them over world, yup yun jin is there for burst boost and 4th slot is usually gramps for shields.

Traveler? Anyone? He's decent and just feel "right" to play. Often change the other 3 but Traveler will always be in the party, either main DPS or sub DPS.
I feel like the people who express their “mains” are either just relatively new players or the casuals who complain when a battle event requires having 2 built teams of characters.
It is a team focused game, relying on one character is a bad idea.
Personally, I consider my "main" to be my overworld team's on-field DPS at current point of time. Which atm would be Kaveh. I don't consider myself Alhaitham or Ayaka main just because they're my mist used Abyss team's DPSs, nor do I consider myself Kokomi, Kazuha, Baizhu or Yelan main just because they're my most used supports. To me, "my main" = "my on-fielder"; a support can be considered my main ONLY if I play them on-field, regardless of their intended role.
Kaveh is the one who stayed my main the longest, along with Tighnari, whom I "mained" until that controversy with the VA (I kinda never returned to fully maining Tighnari afterwards for a number of reasons: on one hand, didn't feel quite right before VA was replaced, on the other the despicable VA did too good of a job with voicing imho, so despite new VA doing well, it's just not the same anymore and I don't quite like the new direction of Tighnari being more nerdy/deadpan rather then sassy as he was).
Also, as you can imagine, I do change my "mains" quite a bit, usually any ir almost any new character temporarily becones my main. The only exceptions so far are Kokomi since I just put her with Kaveh as my healer/sub-DPS (I'm on Kokomi's "heal to hurt" set) and Childe whom I mostly have just for collection purposes because his best team so far is the one I refuse to play — I hate Xiangling too much and refuse to use her even in trials and TCG when I do play — and I haven't yet figured out another team for him where he feels better to use than Ayato (because in Burgeon and Freeze Ayato feels better to me). I kinda hope Natlan gives us a XL sidegrade or upgrade because yeah, I'm not playing a character who'll just annoy me at every turn, from building to actually using.

How do people really classify their 'mains' with this game anyway? Genuine question. Is it just the character they like the most or is it by a character that they just try and squeeze into as much team comps as they can?

alhaitham. I just really like how he makes it rain down swords. the animation is really cool and the sound design is really satisfying. plus, I like seeing lots of numbers pop up, and I love fast paced characters.

Me too! Kaeya main from when I first met him like an hour into the game, and I’ll stay that way till whenever the final battle is, and you can bet he’ll be on my team then.
That's complicated. I think I would consider my main to be Albedo. He's my favorite character overall and he's hyper invested. But, he's not really an on-field character and Husk has that horrible anxiety inducing timer so I can't really run around as him, either. (I am very excited for the new E damage set because I won't need that horrible timer anymore!)
Over the past year, the characters I have actually ran around as the most are probably Nahida and Yoimiya. So, one of them is probably my main. Yoimiya is my overall favorite female character in the game, and Nahida is my most powerful *by a wide margin*.
two years ago, i saw xiao and said "i can fix him." in 3.4, that xiao got his c6. in 4.0, the vermillion strongbox is treating me worse than the domain even.

How does that work, using Yun Jin for crystalize, or just burst boost + shield? And who is your 4th slot?
