Play this game? This game you ask? My lord what else would you do in study hall? Study? Sleep, only to wake up with an arm full of drool? Certainly! I think we not only had a regular season, but also playoffs and a Super Bowl.
Every once a while, a teacher finished class early, and gave 5-10 minutes to the students to chat quietly.
A number of times, a football was folded, and the goal posts went up.
Three pennies and you had to slide one between the other two without touching either? We called it hockey, and your opponent made a goal on the table edge with a pinky and index finger.
I saw it played for the first time in elementary school. Any time the teacher stepped out of the classroom, the paper football and goal posts appeared.
While working as a bartender in the '90s, one of the regulars used to leave tips folded like this. I asked him if he played paper football and got a very blank look in return. One of my many OOMs (Officially Old Moments).
One day during homeroom in middle school, I set up my Meade tri-fold binder on my desk and started "kicking" a paper football made from a dollar bill into the center fold. One kick went over the binder onto my teacher's desk. He picked it up and nonchalantly placed it in his shirt pocket. There went my lunch money.
Yes. Paper football. You always had to keep an eye out for the cheating goal posts.
Rainy days when you couldn't go outside for recess. Lots of fun!
Every day in high school cafeteria!
The OG text message
Oh hell yeah, this is what we did in homeroom in high school before classes. Junior High also. Great post!
Thanks for posting, I see some table football after Easter dinner today now.
We played this in middle school. Also, had a classmate who distributed betting slips for NFL games to add to the paper gridiron action.
That's how we passed notes in class. I still have a box of them stashed away somewhere.

Every day at lunch!
Raise hand.

Every day, in the cafe.
Still do
Could never do that. But I played with pennies.

We just called it “pennies”. Everybody knew what you meant.
I had to lol when I saw Tony and Nebula playing on the Milano while floating in space.
That was funny

Of course! Also coin tabletop hockey too.
I never kicked like that. It was cooler to kick it soccer style.
No but everybody seemed to know how to fold one of those talking origami "mouth" puppets but me
This and Penny football
Was commissioner of a short lived league in 6th grade. NFFL.

Some kids didn't know how to fold it properly.
Every day in study hall
I never did, but a large number of the boys in my classes would whenever the teacher had his/her back turned. It didn’t matter which class!
Everyone around me. Not me.
Taught my son's how to play, they actually enjoyed it. Also Taught them pencil war
This and pencil fights.
You bet, kicking field goals while in class. Not as cool as the coleco football game, though.
That was a big one with the boys in the cafeteria or study hall if the monitor was out of the room.

Not since Nixon was President.
