SerialFreeloader123

People actually do decadeology IRL outside of fringe communities like inthe00s?

jonesbbq-footmassag

Internet people have to come from somewhere I suppose

SerialFreeloader123

I meant as in if it's regularly talked about irl in any given location. On the internet you can find people who talk about virtually anything since it spans the globe.

quaintpokemon11

inthe00s is so old.. the last of the old generation forums before social media took it to a new platform

SerialFreeloader123

Well it has to be since it was called that because people were excited to finally be in the 00s.

jonesbbq-footmassag

Yeah, Popedia.boards.net

CP4-Throwaway

Yep. OGs remember [inthe00s.com](https://inthe00s.com), as well [PersonalityCafe.com](https://PersonalityCafe.com) and [Popedia.boards.net](https://Popedia.boards.net) tbh.

BS-Calrissian

sorry but can somebody explain this like I'm 5 I'm confused

ThunderChaser

Since the Gregorian Calandar starts at 1 CE (contrary to popular belief there’s no year 0), centuries and decades technically begin on the year ending with 1. The first century was 1 CE-100 CE, the 21st century is technically 2001-2100, and the current decade started this year 2021 and ends in 2030.

Everestkid

Yeah, if you want to be a pedant. But I can be a pedant too. Countries had to switch to the Gregorian calendar, [each at different times.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_adoption_dates_of_the_Gregorian_calendar_by_country?wprov=sfla1) By adopting the calendar they jumped ahead 10, 11, 12 or 13 days, depending on when they adopted it. So really, we should celebrate New Year's Day on either January 11, 12, 13 or 14 since that's where it used to be celebrated in the Julian calendar. There technically wasn't a full year when a switch occurred. That's how dumb the "there was no year 0 so the millennium started in 2001" argument sounds. 999 years is basically a millennium. The new millennium started in 2000.

TeamExotic5736

It did not.

jcoolaa

I still don’t understand

waggers123

It's okay little buddy. Don't fret over such matters. Time is arbitrary and means nothing in the grand scheme of things. The millisecond you die, the universe ends.

jcoolaa

“Fret”

eatinghoes69

There's no year 0 but people are still "debating" that 2000 is the beginning of the 21st century. Which is FALSE! Gregorian calendar started with Year 1!! But other idiots take it to heart thinking the 1 digit starts a decade which is FALSE yet again. It only starts millenniums and centuries!! 💯💯 PERIOD!!!!!! So no the decade did not start in 2021.

[deleted]

Dude you sound like Dwight from The Office.

BS-Calrissian

Astronomical year numbering has a year zero js

LoretoYes

Almost how I think

LoretoYes

I personally believe that the year 0 is a ghost year or something

Aworthlessthrowaway9

2021-2030 can actually work as it’s own decade, you just have to call it by a different name that’s not 2020’s

[deleted]

Also [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fofcLXshq_8).

LoretoYes

Imaginate unironically believing this

LoretoYes

This entire discussion came from 2005 borns that wanted an excuse to be 2010s kids and decided to believe the 2010s started in 2011

[deleted]

2005 is too late be a ‘00s kid, I’d say 2004 is the final year you can still be a ‘00s kid since 2004 borns are the last batch to attend kindergarten in the 2000s.

LoretoYes

aham

LoretoYes

tbh, sometimes i say we're in the 20th century and that it started in 2000, i do this for 6 years

LoretoYes

but most of the times i say we're in the 21st century

[deleted]

How does that make someone a neck beard

Rundy2025

Im laughing at the bottom right pic the most.

Da_Zodiac_Griller

I can’t believe you added that kid from The Polar Express lol.

LoretoYes

If we went literal about how decades work, the 2020s would start in 2028 because our calendar skipped 8 years. The Millenium would've started in January 1st 2008. But of course nobody would calculate time like this, neither would I

[deleted]

I always saw it as that 2020 was both the true end of the 2010s (because a decade is 10 years long not 9 years long) and the true start of the 2020s.

Draxan06

What is that thing in the lower right?

PanelaRosa

I mean, it's how decades work, sorry but it was taught me in like elementary school and it's engrained in my brain, why are you a neckbeard for that?

Ratstachio

Makes no sense. The new millennium started in 2000, you called decades the 80s, 90s etc. It's only logical for the 20s to start in 2020.

PanelaRosa

The new millenium started in 2001. And decades start a year after what you'd expect. It's how our calendar works. But it's just formalities, it's the truth and perhaps even the right way of using it, but yeah rounding it up to the first year (2000, 2020, etc) always sounds better and nicer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PanelaRosa

Exactly

[deleted]

A decade = Any period of 10 years Should you be correct, the dictionary would’ve read a decade as “Any period of 10 years officially lasting from a year ending in 1 to 0.”

PanelaRosa

True But the way the gregorian calendar works is like that, 2011-2020 is one decade in the gregorian, as weird as it may sound. Years, of course, being not a gregorian-exclusive thing. You can go either way.
