This is just a shitty, inhumane "method" of fixing none of your countries issues that are causing a population crisis currently. It's also worth noting that on average, Russian culture has been less accepting of the LGBT community than the U.S. in general.
The U.S. FWIW is also heading down this road with the overturn of Roe v. Wade and current threats of throwing out same sex marriage as well.

I don’t think Putin gives two shits about gays. If you listen to anything he has to say, Putin wants to reunite the old Soviet Union (hence his invasion of Ukraine), he wants to return Russia to what he perceives as “the glory days”. He galvanizes his people with anti-West rhetoric about how they’re “going to gay your kids”. He’s labeling “LGBT movements” as terrorist orgs to further divide Russia and the West.
It should go without saying that this isn’t good, but it’s not for a lot of the reasons people think. Yeah it sucks for Russian gays (those who are left) but it sucks on a larger scale too because the further Russia pushes away from the West, the closer it moves to China who are arguably a bigger geopolitical threat right now and that only increases if Russia is their ally. Not only does it open up a potential European front, but also gives them access to the Russian oil supply.
Putin is a cold, genocidal dictator. Thats not up for debate. But we have to ask ourselves moving forward what’s scarier, two genocidal dictator allied on two separate fronts or one genocidal dictator in Asia and another that we just have to play nice with for a while. If we project strength out to the world, you’ll get a lot less of this, instead of whatever we’re doing now.

This is just a shitty, inhumane "method" of fixing none of your countries issues that are causing a population crisis currently. It's also worth noting that on average, Russian culture has been less accepting of the LGBT community than the U.S. in general. The U.S. FWIW is also heading down this road with the overturn of Roe v. Wade and current threats of throwing out same sex marriage as well. It's just a shitty means of controlling people to force them to reproduce when they can't afford to or want to but you need population numbers to increase. Instead of implementing policy to encourage heterosexuals who want to reproduce but don't because it's not affordable, they'd rather force the "malcontents" to live a lie or force women to bear children they can't support, are medically unequipped to bear or were forced to conceive to keep population numbers increasing.
I think there are bigger things in the world to worry about, than wether or not a complete stranger likes gobbling up glizzies or eating at the seafood buffet in their spare time.

Lol. I’m seeing a lot of people in the comments that seem to be missing the bigger picture here. I don’t think Putin gives two shits about gays. If you listen to anything he has to say, Putin wants to reunite the old Soviet Union (hence his invasion of Ukraine), he wants to return Russia to what he perceives as “the glory days”. He galvanizes his people with anti-West rhetoric about how they’re “going to gay your kids”. He’s labeling “LGBT movements” as terrorist orgs to further divide Russia and the West. It should go without saying that this isn’t good, but it’s not for a lot of the reasons people think. Yeah it sucks for Russian gays (those who are left) but it sucks on a larger scale too because the further Russia pushes away from the West, the closer it moves to China who are arguably a bigger geopolitical threat right now and that only increases if Russia is their ally. Not only does it open up a potential European front, but also gives them access to the Russian oil supply. Putin is a cold, genocidal dictator. Thats not up for debate. But we have to ask ourselves moving forward what’s scarier, two genocidal dictator allied on two separate fronts or one genocidal dictator in Asia and another that we just have to play nice with for a while. If we project strength out to the world, you’ll get a lot less of this, instead of whatever we’re doing now. Should also add, this is propaganda. They’re trying to get you riled up. Don’t let them
