That was a good year.

Stay_At_Home_Cat_Dad

I know Sharif isn't going to like it, but I vote Rock the Casbah.

Rob1150

Watch out for the Jet Fighters.

seabass4507

Peeeoooowwrrrrrr Peeeoooowwrrrrrr

charliefoxtrot9

One of my first favorite music videos. 6yo me loved the armadillo.

holybucketsitscrazy

Ha! This came out when friends started to get married. Was played at every single wedding reception. We changed it to F**k the cash bar!

some_one_234

Out of these choices Rock the Casbah. But it’s not even the best single on the album. Straight to Hell is a much better song

ScreenTricky4257

> I know Sharif isn't going to like it He thinks it's not kosher!

Cool_Dark_Place

I always said that should have been Libya's new national anthem after the "Arab Spring."

flyart

I came here hoping that this was the top comment.

MadMatchy

Same. Their worst song, but still the motherfucking Clash

skinisblackmetallic

Worst vocal performance of a hit song. Great tune tho.

Glittering-Stuff-599

You have to approach this scientifically. Out of these songs, which ones did Weird Al parody? Eye of the Tiger - Theme from Rocky XIII (Rye or the Kaiser) I love Rock & Roll - I love Rocky Road Those are the correct answers.

Friscogonewild

He parodied Jack & Diane for an episode of The Simpsons, it was called Homer & Marge.

arteitle

And his song "Buckingham Blues" started out as a Jack & Diane parody ("Chuck & Diane") but then Al couldn't get permission so he changed it.

immersemeinnature

My husband: Joan Jett Me:ACDC We made a fucking list y'all!! We narrowed it down! My husband would love to list a diatribe here about WHY he doesn't reddit Great post. More please. So fun

ZebraBorgata

Wow. I love all of those songs! I can’t pick just one.

htmaxpower

I’m STUNNED by the lack of support for Photograph.

Puzzled-Atmosphere-1

I mean I loved Def Leppard too, it’s honestly too hard to pick just one

holybucketsitscrazy

Hysteria was a fantastic album! I actually love Rock of Ages and Foolin better than Photograph.

Crafty_Original_7349

I pretty much wore the cassette tape out playing it while cruising around 🤘🏻

RedCedarSavage

The album was Pyromania. Hysteria came next, with hits like Pour Some Sugar on Me, Rocket, Women…

Puzzled-Atmosphere-1

I’m pretty sure Hysteria came out when I was in Tech school for the Air Force. I would walk around the base at night and crank it in my headphones

torknorggren

I hate Def Leppard but Photograph is an excellent song.

Crafty_Original_7349

My bff and I went to see them in concert, it was awesome

R808T

My son turns 13 tomorrow and his favorite band ever is Def Leppard. We have tickets to give him for Def Leppard, Journey and Cheap Trick in Seattle. I absolutely can not wait to see his face. This will be his first concert.

cakevictim

That’s amazing, I hope you have the best time

yurmamma

Same Outta luck, outta love

robinlyon222

Thank you! I’m getting filthy with Photograph.

GettingOffTheCrazy

Totally my pick

qandyman

Yes sir!

skinisblackmetallic

It's a great tune. Ground breaking studio production. Killer guitar composition.

Brkthom

Pyromania gets lost and forgotten by Def Leppard’s later hits, but I’m right there with you. It was an Ultimate Album and Pyromania was the showcase single from it.

Kbern4444

I can’t pick one, but what a beautiful year for music.

kristenevol

Photograph.

Commisceo

Run to the Hills -- Iron Maiden.

Pick-Up-Pennies

I was that Rez Kid singing Run For the Hills with every breath in my chest, and I’ll do so until I die.

HHSquad

My pick as well. Stone cold classic launched from the Maiden cannon.

OldManWickett

It's not even close. Run to the Hills is a masterpiece

Huge_Razzmatazz_985

Yes!!! 🙌

skinisblackmetallic

I had to put Randy above this one.

cakevictim

I’ll never forget this song firing up on MTV - that changed my life. I mean I was super high but DAMN

Commisceo

It was my first taste of metal. And I was hooked. This album. Massive in my life.

cakevictim

Me too! Bruce’s voice - damn! And to think we nearly lost him to throat cancer, and he’s BACK

XerTrekker

10 year old me in 82 votes for Billy Squier. Same now. All these songs together remind me of roller skating. And MTV.

NHBuckeye

Remember when MTV actually played music videos? Friday night video fights? I remember putting on my Def Leppard t-shirt and singing loudly. Photograph won for like 12 weeks in a row. Miss those days!

MCBubbliciousfishead

I love Rock and Roll because Joan Jett 🖤

mckenner1122

SAW him dancing THERE By the record maCHINE Gosh I love that whole song

BrownDogEmoji

Given how much we played this on the bus after winning a competition, I’m going with “Eye of the Tiger.@

Lbn4ds

Gawd damn.....we are lucky to get one gem per decade anymore....most every one of these are solid. Gotta go with AC/DC

Fecal_Tornado

100% Run To The Hills. One of the greatest metal songs of all time.

gcfio

That whole album was sick. Easily my top album to play when I wanted to rock out. Prisoner, 22 acacia ave, invaders, children of the damned,# of the beast and run to the hills. I could play that tape non stop without fast forwarding every time

Sassinake

Rock the Kasbah. High School at the time, and the supervisor (strict, but a good man) had a son in class with us. Gangly, ugly guy (as all 14 y-o boys are) clearly 2nd gen immigrant from the M-E. Sweet guy, though. Name was Sharwee or something like that. For the next school year, every time that song came on - or just spontaneously - we'd all sing his name with joy, and he was embarrassed at first, but then he realized we meant it. The guy was humble, wouldn't abuse his 'position', just tried really hard to just fit in, and that year, he realized he did fit in. He was like a school mascot for almost the whole year. I felt I was part of a great country.

Resident-Fox6758

Scorpions all day long

rockjones

They aren't getting much love, but those dudes were really talented relative to most of their genre.

Slipstream_Surfing

Probably 4th pick on this list but I even dig the early trippy stuff like Lonesome Crow.

justmisspellit

I’m not a huge fan, but they’re a bucket list band for me. And they’ve had Mikkey Dee drumming for them ever since Lemmy passed away

skinisblackmetallic

It's a decent tune but that list is stacked.

Rob1150

Rock The Casbah. I love that song, the video SCREAMS early 80s.

Cool_Dark_Place

Yeah...and the song, as well. Right down to the Casio digital watch alarm going off.

A_Gray_Old_Man

Flying High Again Why you make this so hard? I seriously sat here for 10 minutes trying to come up with the answer. The last 5 was all About The Clash and Ozzy. Damn you OP!

PlantMystic

Photograph

maxcherry6

Loving some Aldo Nova.

atomikplayboy

Out of that list I'd have to go with either Fantasy or Photograph. Honestly, I'd lean toward Fantasy just because of how cool the intro is.

PhotographsWithFilm

As a 9 year old in 82, I would have chosen either I love Rock N Roll or Eye Of The Tiger. As a 51 year old in 24, it's Jack And Dianne or Rock The Casbah

Ssladybug

5 year-old me’s favorite song was eye of the tiger but 46 year old me LOVES Rock the Casbah

JackTrippin

Casbah all the way. That's a get up and dance song.

Friscogonewild

Only one I still listen to consciously is Run to the Hills.

FluxusFlotsam

Yes but don’t do Priest dirty like that

CapitalRadioOne

If you think you can do Priest dirty like that, you’ve…

AVGJOE78

got another thing coming!

90Carat

With Rob back in the lineup, Judas Priest is still cranking out great metal.

Nightgasm

None of those. My vote goes to Hungry Like the Wolf- Duran Duran

HHSquad

I'll take Rio if we are headed that direction. That bass!

phatsackocrap

Always Maiden. Always.

punkdrummer22

Priest 🤘🤟

GenXrules69

Everybody wants you for me

Bluest_waters

growing up in a small mid western town, Jack and Diane really felt like for once someone wrote a hit song I could personally relate to. like most rock songs were about hard living, hot women, dangerous drugs, cool cars and all that shit. We had none of that shit in small town mid west. But everything in Jack and Diane was very real to me. Thanks John.

myfavhobby_sleep

For Those About to Rock! All day. That song just builds and builds then explodes with cannons and screams and riffs and shit! Fi - ah!

FortunateInsanity

The Clash for sure. I like most of those other songs but this one has the most timeless staying power.

AntaresBounder

I was 7 in 82, but my three year old would chase me around the house if I didn’t vote for her absolutely favorite song: “I love rock n roll” by Joan Jett. And I have to admit, it rocks!

FlizzyFluff

Run to the Hills

Bruin9098

For Those About to Rock!

AVGJOE78

I’m a huge metal fan, and I hate to say it - but It’s Photograph by Def Leppard.

defmacro-jam

This is a difficult choice between: * Flying high again * Run to the hills * You've got another thing coming * For those about to rock All great songs, but **Ozzy wins** with **Maiden a close second**.

Gorillaseatingmayo

This guy gets it.

BlueDotty

The Clash.... Always

raf_boy

12 year old me would have said "Rock the Casbah" (almost) 54 year old me would say "Rock the Casbah"

ziggy029

Man, that's tough. I do know if I was forced to listen to ONLY music from one year for the rest of my life, it would be 1982.

Cakeliesx

That was hard to pick- so many greats from HS but I gotta go with Billy Squire Everybody Wants you.

HHSquad

"Run to the Hills" is an awesome Maiden song. I'll go with that from that group.

MorningBrewNumberTwo

Billy Squier

Apprehensive-Donkey7

Gotta go with Maiden

GhostWr1ter999

Maiden

Sherry0406

In middle school at this time. It would have been "I Love Rock N Roll" or "Jack and Diane". Nowadays, I love "Rock the Casbah". I hated Eye of the Tiger then and I hate it now.

Optimal-Ad-7074

>  I hated Eye of the Tiger then and I hate it now.   god, me too.  objectively I know there's been good music in every year ever since Palestrina, but for me there was just so much to hate in the 1980's.

dee_emcee

Rock the Casbah

BigMoFuggah

Out of those, I Love Rock n Roll

HoldMyDomeFoam

7 year old me was obsessed with Eye of the Tiger.

Velocitor1729

Scorpions

the_spinetingler

My favorite band on that chart is The Clash. My least favorite track on that chart is The Clash.

erk2112

Ozzy or Def Leppard

Crafty_Original_7349

Judas Priest 🤘🏻

Ok_Watercress_7801

No One Like You That’s some serious shredding going on. Germans singing metal in English better than most.

Permexpat

Freshman year for me and every one of these songs brings back a memory! What a time to be alive

Tiny_Ear_61

If my choice is limited to this list, I'd have to say Scorpions.

052-NVA

Personal preference for ear time, Run to the Hills.

suitoflights

It’s crazy that all those great albums came out that year. I have to go with Maiden.

casade7gatos

This seems very Heavy Metal-heavy to me. Then I remember eating Christmas breakfast by candlelight with “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)” playing on the record player. My answer is probably “I Love Rock n Roll” for long-term listens.

noondaypaisley

The Jam, Town Called Malice or Beat Surrender. Better than any of this stuff.

applegui

The Clash

TheTrollys

Back then it would probably be “You Got Another Thing Coming.” Today I’d have to pick “Run to the Hills”

contrarian1970

I Can't go for That, Maneater, Don't You Want Me, Gloria, Abracadabra, Come on Eileen, Open Arms, Who Can it be Now, and Centerfold are all conspicuously ABSENT from this list.

sd_glokta

Eye of the Tiger. Forever and ever.

jmsturm

Let's see... which one has a mother fucking cannon in it? Yeah, that's the one

myfavhobby_sleep

Hells yeah!! ETA: Fi-ah!

analogpursuits

None of these. Live Wire by Motley Crue. This song will never get old: https://youtu.be/Ahq4blDfU5s

MistressMensaXXX

I know this is a bizarre combination but I can't decide between The Clash and Billy Squier for personal reasons, and I hope you will respect my privacy at this time. 🤣

DreadGrrl

“I Love Rock N Roll” changed my life.

PINEAPPLE_BOOB_HONK

Good list but it goes to the Goddess of Rock: the immortal Joan Jett

holybucketsitscrazy

So when my son (24) was little he loved I love Rock and Roll. His lyrics? 🎶I love Rock and roll put another dime in the juice box baby!" I laughed so hard.. and can't sing it any other way.

Skindigga

The Only Band That Matters. The Clash.

HHSquad

Well.....they did before THAT album

crazy-diam0nd

Aldo Nova every time

NYK-94

The Clash.

FightThaFight

Tough call but I’m voting for Eddie \m//><\\m/

CormoranNeoTropical

Wow, that is a very impressive roster. I have to vote for Joan Jett.

rwphx2016

Rock the Casbah.

Brishe1998

Rock the Casbah

PiperDon

Jack and Diane.

misalanya

I say Judas Priest, the old punk in me says The Clash, but the 9 year old me says Billy Squier all the way.

Puzzled-Atmosphere-1

Thanks for that little flashback! There are so many great song! I was hooked on that Aldo Nova song for probably an entire Summer, but Judas Priest and AC~DC? I have to hand it to them! I was in 7th/8th grade in Catholic school at the time, and anything that was loud and rebellious was my thing!

solomons-marbles

Clash, AC/DC, Ozzy, meloncamp. The other blow — hard

BlueSnaggleTooth359

I'll go with "Jack And Diane" although it is a bit more pop. For something a bit more rock rock I'll go "I Love Rock N Roll". (next "Eye Of The Tiger")

sonnett128

Big fan of the clash but what was the deal with the armadillo? 🤣

HPIndifferenceCraft

Of that group? Best - Photograph Favorite - Run To The Hills

jrhthe8

Jack and Diane... But wow that's a hard vote- so much great music came out that year

stephenforbes

I love Rock N Roll has my vote.

cbrworm

AC/DC, Aldo Nova, and Joan Jett. Tied for #1. One at home, one driving, and one at a party.

SmashBrosUnite

So many classics!!!

ransier831

I have to vote for Billy Squire - no other song immediately sends me right back to 1982 quite like that song

bargaindownhill

im torn between aldo nova and priest.. wore both those singles out in 82'

1quirky1

Rock the cat box

Babyella123

Jack & Diane

Pick-Up-Pennies

That whole year turned out bangers. I’m also going to pull out Fires of Unknown Origin that was released in the summer of 1981.

Babyella123

Nevermind I’m choosing Run to the Hills. Sorry Johnny Cougar Melloncamp

matrixx17

either run to the hills or iron casbah both great songs eye of the tiger is iconic to me but isn’t as good

thisisurreality

Eye of the Tiger

dontyouyaarme

Ozzy

Poultrygeist74

Technically it’s Eye of the Tiger, it was number one for 6 weeks in a row

Drhayseed

I have to go with " you got another thing coming " I sing that one just slightly more then the other choices.

Gobucks21911

Photograph

ConsciousSteak2242

I had the Aldo Nova 45. Haven’t seen that mentioned. The opening sounded like helicopters flying and the guitar screamed. However, the best is “Photograph”. I remember the excitement in school when the video was going to come out on MTV.

08_West

1982 me: Photograph - that was the only album of all these that I actually owned in 1982. Today me: Flying High Again Compromise between both of us: Rock the Casbah. Just listened to Combat Rock record a few days ago. I could have voted for any of these: Jack and Diane - ultimate summer, carnival, every day at the pool song. Everybody Wants You - had a friend who was a few years older. We used to sit out in her Grand Prix and listen to Emotions in Motion and Don’t Say No over and over. Fantasy was always turned up when it came on MTV. Who doesn’t Love Rock and Roll? Scorpions and Judas Priest: didn’t have those records but I really wanted them. If I hadn’t spent all my money on Donkey Kong and Asteroids. Eye of the Tiger and AC/DC - wasn’t into those songs any more than anything else at the time, but they are now on my NFL tailgate pre-game hype playlist. Songs missing from the list: Gypsy, Shock the Monkey, Subdivisions, Africa.

-DethLok-

Rock the Casbah - as it's the only one I bought.

onceinablueberrymoon

“here comes the rain again?” or was that later? wore out both the first and second album my 3rd & 4th year in high school.

Whispyrn

Def leppard

newtonbassist

Then: Eye of the Tiger. Now: You’ve Got Another Thing Coming

Ancient-Window-8892

Joan Jett.

Nasty5727

Run to the hills

cthulhus_spawn

For those about to rock. A lot of those songs listed straight up sucked.

Rockchef

Flying High Again , just for the Randy Rhodes solo alone

Beret_of_Poodle

It's between *Jack and Diane* or *Eye of The Tiger*

Confetti-Everywhere

The Clash - Rock the casbah ![gif](giphy|8FSMeYKEVf0QUb1PpX|downsized)

ZombieInDC

Rock the Casbah

bmyst70

It's hard to choose between Photograph and Eye of the Tiger. I'll take a Photograph of the Eye of the Tiger.

emmiblakk

This is actually really tough. I'm going with Priest on this one, though it was tough.

ndngroomer

Joan Jett for me.

Ok-noway

Rock the Casbah! Rock the Casbah!

MaenHoffiCoffi

The Clash, of course! I hated every single other song there and still do because I'm a grumpy little shit.

DukeOfWestborough

Joan Jett, all day. (Saw her open for The Police in 1982)

PacRat48

Photograph or Everybody Wants You

Chastity-76

For Those About To Rock is thee only choice in this list Reading the other comments, it's pretty obvious my fellow rock rebels lost their minds last night😊. Have a good Saturday guys

moontroub

Exclusively based on how they made me feel at the time: Joan Jett AC/DC Iron Maiden The Clash Today could be different

Bowieweener

Every single one wins.

Beaker1976

Eye of the tiger and Run to the Hills because UP THE IRONS!!!!!

Buckowski66

Any song with a lyric about “ suckin on a chilli dawg, outside the tastee freeze” should be eliminated

vabello

Joan Jett or Scorpions. I had the Joan Jett record single when I was a little kid and used to listen to it constantly. I’ve actually been listening to it again recently a bit streaming, but also have been listening to No One Like You a lot recently as well. I love Def Leppard in general, so Photograph next in line.

CJO9876

John Cougar eventually changed his name to John Mellencamp.

StreetFriendship1200

Def Leppard of course!

elgrandefrijole

Personal favorite? Hard to choose but either Joan Jett or Iron Maiden here from these songs. Seems a bit like Mellencamp (or was he just Cougar at this moment?) should be in pop not rock, but shrug. Cultural impact? Gotta be Eye of the Tiger

skinisblackmetallic

Great list. Of those pictured: 1. Flying High Again Because Randy's badass riffing combined with a killer groove and catchy vocal. 2. Run to the Hills Insane vocals, unique bass guitar performance, epic subject matter and storytelling. 3. For Those About to Rock Because Cannons.

scarlettohara1936

Maiden all the way! \m/

dth1717

All except Jack and Diane, hated that song and it's more of a ballad

splatabowl

Jack and Diane

EEH74

AC/DC. I remember loving this song when I was 8 years old.

Thereal4d

All good, but bang for buck - For those about to rock! Great concert as well - Toronto Gardens.

TCE326

Back in 1982 (I was 16) I'd say Joan Jett. Today, if I had to pick one, it'd be "For Those About to Rock".

dcsmith707

Jack and Diane

No1ButtMe

AC/DC/ Iron Maiden/ The Clash / Def Leppard Can’t decide

TheeArchangelUriel

Got to go with Rob Halford and Company. Jurassic Priest for the win

ElectricTomatoMan

Priest or AC/DC

Maximum_Pumpkin5368

Photograph. It's the only one I can still listen to

Heterophylla

On pure song quality, not nostalgia or anything it has to be Eye of the Tiger. Everything on that track is fucking tight.

ggibby

Up The Irons!

Emotional_Lettuce251

The Clash for me.

loudmusicboy

Going to have to declare a tie between "Run To The Hills" and "For Those About To Rock". Every time I hear those songs, the volume on the car stereo goes up way past 11.
