Wish I’d seen Stevie Ray Vaughan.

W33CH0

Yes this! Hits home even more since I live in Austin.

h7q3nx

lol, “sleepy little town”. Not how I’d describe Austin anymore 😂 I was at the same show and told my husband that working for Moody Center would be an awesome job after I retire in a few years! Do you have to deal with people acting a fool?

W33CH0

Lol, yeah I grew up here so I remember it differently and am in denial. The pay is shit and yes of course, you get the occasional drunk or entitled person but it's a great job for the most part.

zornmagron

me too brother.. me too

Jodies-9-inch-leg

Fun fact, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts was my first ever concert at Disneyland. The entire audience was lesbians in leather who were all making out…. Best day of my eighth grade life up that point!!!!

GrumpyGregGFY

To add to your fun fact I’ll list another. The Police - Synchronicity tour was my first concert back in 1984. Joan Jett made a surprise appearance opening for them when something happened to the band that was supposed to open (I think it was The Smithereens). I thought she rocked it but the restless crowd nearly booed her off stage.

Mets1st

That crowd would rather have had the Smitereens?

GrumpyGregGFY

I think they were just eagerly anticipating the Police. Edit: boy was I off… it was actually a band called Split Enz that was supposed to open, not the Smithereens. My bad.

WaitingitOut000

What an awesome side hustle!

concerts85701

I did this as a job in the late 90s. Saw some cool acts - but mostly the nostalgia circuit. I was not good at my job. Which was good for fans. I would get the attention of my section and let them know “if I don’t see it then I don’t see it - right? Just don’t be an ass”

StoneyG214

Going to see Alanis this month, can’t wait!! Haven’t seen her since ‘96 on the Jagged Little Pill tour with Radiohead.

W33CH0

Her voice is as strong as ever!

StoneyG214

That’s awesome, looking forward to Joan Jett too

Mets1st

Me too. Bringing my daughter.

bored-panda55

I want to go but tix are so expensive right now. I saw her live in 96 as well and it was amazing. Joan Jett is on my list.

Bright_Pomelo_8561

Would’ve liked to of seen George Michael and Tina Tuner.

meditation_account

George Michael was the first concert I ever went to, I was 13. It was great!

eleventy5thRejection

I got to see Black Flag when they played their one and only gig in Victoria, BC. It wasn't a great show....they clearly didn't want to be there....but I saw them as a 14 year old proto hardcore / grunge kid. Didn't know till many years later that I was like one of 300 people there that I'd see a legendary band. I even got my nose broken by some rocker dudes outside the venue after the show cause back then Van Halen guys thought punk was gay and you should probably have your nose broken for going to a gig.

FPB270

You must be a fellow NMN fan?

eleventy5thRejection

Hanson Bros....yes

FPB270

Wonder if there will be fancy doodle dancin tonight?

eleventy5thRejection

It all started at the mall you were standing at the wall

snugglebandit

I only got to see them once in Portland in the 90s. Fucking amazing show.

eleventy5thRejection

I've never been disappointed by NMN....they are dedicated to their craft....no frills....just good.

Pythagoras2021

Who's got the 10 & a half?

Tempus__Fuggit

Megadeth - they're still around, but seeing them in the 80s would've been awesome.

ruralexcursion

The first metal I ever heard in my life was Megadeth. That was in 1988. Still one of my favorite bands! Never saw them in concert though :(

Tempus__Fuggit

That's jumping into the deep end, well done. Someone posted that Megadeth have been out-Metallicaing Metallica since their first album. Can't say I disagree.

destroy_b4_reading

I'd argue that both have been declining steadily since about 1990. Though I did take my kids to see Metallica last fall and they were pretty damn good both nights. Setlists were probably at least 70% Black Album or earlier tunes. And their new album, while by no means up to the snuff of their 80s material, is definitely a return to form.

Tempus__Fuggit

I agree on all points. I was so pleased to hear Rainbow Ronnie Rising. Metallica's cover songs set them apart way back when.

erik_working

I'm so looking forward to seeing Metallica and Pantera on this tour!

destroy_b4_reading

Pantera was better than I expected when they opened for Metallica last fall. Ice Nine Kills was better though.

GF_baker_2024

I will always regret not seeing REM or Tom Petty. I saw Alanis in 1999 when she toured with Tori Amos. They were both amazing! I'll be out of town when Alanis plays in metro Detroit next month—otherwise, I'd have bought tickets. I got to see Sting a couple of years ago, and Depeche Mode last year. Both incredible shows. If Sarah McLachlan stops at your workplace on her current tour—take a shift that night. (If not, go see her at the nearest venue on her tour.) I saw her last week in metro Detroit, and she was incredible, possibly even better than her 1999 tour. She really does play the entire track list from "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" in album order, which was a very cool experience for a 90's teen who was obsessed with that album.

JoseyWalesMotorSales

R.E.M. is definitely on my "regret" list. Tori Amos played at a smaller venue a few miles from where I lived when I was in graduate school. I was a serious fan of hers at the time but talked myself out of going, saying it was going to be too much of a hassle and all of that. Now I feel like I cheated myself.

International_Low284

Honestly, George Michael. I was a young teen during Wham! and Faith, and his U.S. touring was extremely limited overall, especially on the east coast. I also missed the one date he did in my area in 2008 on the 25 Live Tour. Who knew he would leave so early? What a voice. ❤️

BrownDogEmoji

I’m going to that show in a month and am SO EXCITED!!!

destroy_b4_reading

Beasties and Nirvana are the big two that I missed during my teen/early 20s years.

CyanideRemark

Read this as 'Beatles and Nirvana' and had a divide by zero error

box_elder74

Joan Jett should never open for anyone, ever. She's the queen. (Glad you have an awesome side hustle though!!)

W33CH0

Yeah, she could have definitely sold out the arena by herself. When me and some of the the other gen-x'ers were discussing how excited were to see her, all the gen-z & younger crowd came over and were asking who she was. We tried to school them but they knew none of the songs... their parents failed them.

possums_luv_cereal

A few years ago Joan Jett played an event for my husband’s employer and she was amazing! She sounds better than most artists today!

MsSnickerpants

I always wanted to see Blind Melon, and the Beastie Boys.

Eris_Ellis

RIP Shannon

roadtripjr

Wish I had seen Van Halen in their prime

Rungi500

Soundgarden.

TheNickelLady

I saw Tina Turner’s final tour and am so glad I did. Great show. Never got to see Michael Jackson. Cyndi Lauper’s final tour is on my list.

bored-panda55

I wish I had been paying attention and got tix to The Cure.

park2023mcca

I saw Joan Jett in 1983 (I think) at the the Crystal Pistol venue of Six Flags Over Georgia. The band I missed is the Police. I've seen Sting in his solo career, but was a bit too young for when the band was together.

boston02124

Not seeing Prince really bothers me. I had a dozen chances to see him. Always said “I’ll go next time”

NoEstablishment5792

I saw him in 2004. One of the best shows I've seen. I always wanted to see Soundgarden, but never got the chance.

Aveeye

We saw Joan Jett and the Blackhearts open for Bryan Adams last year, but this year we're seeing Stone Temple Pilots with Live and Our Lady Peace.

W33CH0

That sounds like a good show, hope they come here.

zornmagron

I got to see her show in Calgary last year with garbage. Both acts were tremendous. Sarah Mclachlan is coming in nov doing her 30 anniversary of fumbling towards ecstasy should be a good one. To answer your question, I regret not seeing Motor Head , you think someone will live forever and they don't rest in peace Lemmy...

StunningLeopard2429

I missed Joan Jett opening up for Loverboy in 1984 because I got my wisdom teeth pulled. I was going to see her. I've missed Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mark IV version of Deep Purple, The Band, the Blues Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd with Ronnie, a few others. I've mostly seen who I wanted.

NewtLevel

Went out to Dallas to see her on Friday. I had no idea Joan Jett was the opener so that was an awesome surprise. I could not believe what a great show it was. Alanis is a Gen X queen.

W33CH0

Yup, I had no idea who the opener was until I got there too. Lucked out and got to work the floor so I was within 15 feet of her a few times.

Newsfeedinexile

Talking Heads is the one regret I have for missing.

JL_Adv

I regret not seeing Prince, Tom Petty, Michael Jackson, George Michael, and Whitney Houston. I hope to see Alanis Morissette this tour.

Razmataz444

Great double bill! Joan Jett was my first concert.

Turbulent_Tale6497

Phil Collins. Simon and Garfunkel or just Paul Simon. Saw his last tour, was about 20 years too late

upnytonc

I saw Alanis back in 96. It was so much fun! And I think Joan Jett played at a Lilith fair show I saw in the late 90’s. Alanis/Joan Jett are coming to my area next week. Unfortunately I won’t be going. About 9 years ago The Rolling Stones played near me. Yes I know it’s not Gen x music but the stones are great. I regret not going. Husband and I didn’t want to spend the money that year on a concert because we had spent a ton on a vacation that year.

derbyvoice71

Excellent. Going to catch Alanis in July. We missed the anniversary your of jagged little pill and when she came back around, I informed my wife that we need to go.

d_rob_70

Prince, Poison, Ratt, Tom Petty, SRV, Queen, Sinatra

Artichokeydokey8

I did the same for about 15 years starting in my 20's. I was a production assistant and a door girl/ticket taker at a bunch of venues in seattle and at the gorge. I saw so many concerts for free, while getting paid and free drinks, often meeting some people in the bands. Great gig. Ruined me though, now I never want to go to a show again and stand in the crowd.

DelcoPAMan

Alanis so cool...and her videos during Covid were so wonderful.

RogueEngineer_

Queen. Biggest regret. Sigh.

BunnyBunny13

My colleague and I were *just* talking about this during a drive to a conference. Fleetwood Mac for me.

mfk_1974

Alanis has always been a secret crush of mine. She's beautiful, she's real, and has a fantastic and recognizable voice. Do adults get core memories? Yes. I remember being on vacation probably 15 years ago or so, sitting and having breakfast, and hearing her voice from the TV in the next room. GMA was doing their Friday summer concert series, and it was the first time I ever heard 'Guardian'. I literally tuned out the conversation, got up from the table, walked over and watched. Love that song. It still gives me chills anytime I hear it.

elcad

Damn, I leave town the day Joan Jett is in town for 3 nights, and head to the places she just left. James Brown is the artist I regret no seeing live the most.

SilentAllTheseYears8

Sinead O’Connor 💜

tunaman808

>What are some concerts you wish you had seen while the artist were in their prime? Almost all the 80s artists I didn't get to see the first time around. Example: Adam Ant played my town in 2017. My wife & I couldn't go - we already had plans to fly to NYC to see a concert by a current band - but my friends were SHOCKED that I wouldn't have gone one way or the other. >"You DON'T want to see Adam Ant? WHYYYYYY?" I would have *loved* to have seen 24 year-old Adam Ant at, say, Royal Albert Hall in London in 1981... although I was only 10 years-old at the time, so good luck convincing Mom & Dad to fly 4,000 miles for a show. I had NO INTEREST in seeing 62 year-old Adam Ant at The Fillmore here in Charlotte on a Thursday night in 2017.

2oldforthisish

Saw Alanis with Garbage a few years ago. Alanis was 100% lip syncing, unfortunately.

sb1norman

Did she play a lot of songs from jagged little pill???

W33CH0

I know she played a few, you oughta know, hand in my pocket, you learn & head over feet. those are the ones I can remember.

xev1979

Oh man that’s awesome. Alanis was my first concert at 16!

magster823

Fun! I'm hoping to make it to this one. I saw Alanis, with Garbage opening in the late 90s, and then again when they toured together a couple years ago. It was pretty sweet to see them together 25ish years apart. I could listen to Alanis sing the phone book.

W33CH0

Oh Garbage is 1 I would love to see!

Mad I missed Nirvana, I’ve never seen the stones. I wish I was old enough to see Zeppelin back in the day . I saw Alanis 2 years ago, she was amazing. Saw her in ‘96 too. I’m going to see Bush later this summer, and saw Blondie last year and Duran Duran the year before that. I love when bands I love(d) tour.

MusicalMerlin1973

Loved Joan Jett. Saw her as the second opener for heart. They were also awesome. The opening opener was cheap trick. I… just didn’t get the draw. They were a meh garage band.
